place. the power problem massachusetts been fixed and all lines will be resuming regular service. but as you can see shuttle buses still in place for now. ktvu cristina rendon is in san francisco. she will have more for us coming up in two minutes. good morning. it is friday, august 1st i'm claudine wong in for pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. steve, how did you appellant that? >> i got here very early. >> beautiful sunrise with a few high clouds. we had a lot more fog yesterday. today is a little bitless and there is hardly a breeze. that means it will be warm to hot inland. 102 in livermore. 100 in concord. 96 in east san jose. so temperatures did drop a little bit yesterday. right back up today. i can see the higher clouds scooting over us right now.

66 livermore. 60nd for many here. there are a few low 150s. napa is in there. the breeze, the delta breeze is a far cry from yesterday. it was roaring yesterday. that is not the case today. these higher clouds had a little humidity. it will be really hot inland. nice to mild to warm. i'm waving the white flag. i'm just waving. sal, you go for it. all right. we have a lot to talk about. so we are going to take a look at some of these live pictures. 580 is a mess because of a truck that came over the center divide. the trailer part of the tractor trailer flipped over in the eastbound lanes and the traffic is going to be effected eastbound 580. now for a long time, westbound 580 we had the lanes closed. chp did a good job in getting the tractor of the tractor trailer towed away. this is a picture. a live picture from news

chopper 2. you can see the westbound lanes are open but the eastbound lane that trailer is still in the lanes and eastbound 580 heading out to the altamont pass is going to be slow. westbound 580 the traffic is still backed up into tracy but it will be a major improvement. the way people are, i've been doing this far long time, people will slow down 20 look at that over turned trailer. so we are still going to have a big mess coming in from tracy to livermore. we want to update you on breaking news in san francisco. muni services in the process of being restored after an over night power outage. ktvu cristina rendon is live on the scene. what are riders doing downtown? >> reporter: we have seen people come in waves getting on shuttle buses. we do want to mention that san francisco municipal transportation agency tweeted the power outage was

identified. they have restored service but there will be some delays and gaps in service for riders this morning. this comes 15 minutes after we were told workers found that problem and running tests on it. this power outage effected a key portion for muni metro under ground commuter riders between the area of church street to embarcadero. again it was causing problems for all lines in that stretch. as we said, we were seeing people get on those muni shuttle buses heading to embarcadero. sfmta was telling us even though they had identified the problem the reason there will be gaps in services because they are trying to work out the kings and make sure they have balance restored to all of those lines. so again people, commuters can expect delays and some gaps in service. but again hopefully this will all be cleared up very soon so there won't be top of a headache on your morning commute. we are expecting to learn more in the next half hour.

live in san francisco cristina rendon ktvu channel 2 news. turning to developing news in antioch where police are dealing with another shooting. there have been four shootings in antioch in just over 48 hours. city leaders have vowed to crack down on the escalating violence. tara moriarty is live in antioch with information about these recent shooting victims. >> reporter: police tell me a young military vet was on his way back from the store when he got into an argument with someone on the sidewalk. the clean up crews are here. basically the victim was behind where that car part is. he dropped his groceries, ran around the corner to the lamp post, and then the suspect went to the fire hydrant. he fired nine rounds striking the victim three times. police say the victim appeared to be in his 30s. he was on his way home to see his wife. the latest shooting happened on

rock spring way and golf course road around 12:30 this morning. officers say the victim was shot three or four times in the chest, arm, and stomach. we did just receive an update from police that he is still in surgery but he is expected to survive. this is the fourth shooting in 48 hours. yesterday afternoon a woman on sycamore street was shot in the leg. police believe she may have gotten into an argument with someone. she is expected to survive. at 4:00 yesterday morning a23- year-old woman was grazed in the neck with a spray bullet. police say she was an unintended target. six people were home in that apartment including a four- month-old baby. ktvu spoke to a man that lives inside the complex that did not want to show his face. >> we got lucky the baby was on the other side of the rom. not here. my natural instinct was to jump to the floor and run low. i ran toward the hallway

bathroom. wednesday a man was shot in the stomach. police believe that shooting could be gang related. he is also expected to survive. investigators have not made any arrests and the most recent shooting here they are still trying to piece everything together. one neighbor says she is surprised by the shooting. this is one of the safer neighborhoods in the city. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. oakland police investigating that city's 47th homicide of the year. a man was shot last night around 7:30 on mitchell street. he ran for a block after being shot but then he collapsed. he was rushed to the hospital, that is where he died. we don't know his name at this point. the city of oakland is replacing its troubled police

radio. oakland will use the same radio system used by dozens of other east bay emergency response agencies. oakland police officers have complained far long time their radios often didn't work during crisis events. cal tran responding to a new report. very critical in how the new bay bridge was built. the eastern span lacks quality control. they point to the many problems found in the past year including bad bolts and rods. cal tran though calls the report flawed, misleading, incomplete, and inaccurate and says it fails to comprehend how complex this problem is. >> there is a larger engineering consensus that was reached on specific issues like

the quality of the welds during the fabrication process. that side of the story isn't necessarily told in this document. >> this report is just the latest criticism of a troubled project. the new bridge was finished ten years behind schedule. and it was $5 billion over budget. a major cleanup is under way in santa cruz after one of the worst anchovy die offs in the 80s. the anchovies are drawing hordes of sea birds and sea lions and creating quite a smell. the mass dieoff happened when they swarmed that harbor on wednesday. they were trying to avoid predators and ended up depleting the oxygen supply. >> they are looking for a safe place to stay. it's kind of a sad escape story.

update on the breaking traffic news. there was a new development involving the overturned big rig causing big delays on interstate 580 in livermore. ktvu katie utehs was right there an the crash scene. what is the latest katie. >> reporter: the crash happened in the westbound lanes but still in the eastbound lane. that is the trailer, the load from the semi truck. i'm told it's filled with cattle grain. at this point tow trucks are trying to right the trailer so they can tow it out of here. i don't know if you can see, my photographer can zoom in. you can see skid marks on the roadway. it looks like they have seconds to swerve and miss this trailer as it came crashing over the center divide. as i said the initial wreck happened in the westbound lanes.

there are two vehicles involved. there was a pickup truck that was perhaps stalled along westbound and the semi truck driver may have swerved to try to miss that pickup truck. it's still early in the investigation. chp is not quite sure. chp tells me the one passenger the pickup truck was transported. it is causing a major traffic delay. let me take you if the video. you can see the the backup. this is collision -- this collation has caused. the truck driver involved. the semi truck driver is okay. he doesn't want to talk but he is quite shaken over what happened. his truck came to rest along the center divide. not crossing over. just the trailer crossed over. at this point they have towed it further up westbound 580 in all lanes are open. eastbound 580 still down to two lanes. i'm told it will be about an hour before they can right this

trailer and get all the lanes open. so at this point still major delays on interstate 580 in both directions really because you have people that are heading westbound that are looking at the collision. you have people heading eastbound that are slow to just these three lanes. expect major delays at the livermore valley. katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. time is 6:16. another big story involves bill clinton just hours before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. former president bill clinton told an audience in australia he passed up a chance to kill osama bin laden. >> i could have killed him. but i would have had to destroy kandahar and kill innocent women and children. >> tape was recorded ten hours before the first plane slammed into the world trade center. australian politician says

president clinton gave him permission to record that conversation. it was made in front of 30 australian businessmen. he forgot about the recordings until last week. oklahoma woman rescued after being trapped in her car after eight days is talking about her ordeal. 62-year-old kate springer was runninger errands in june when she got disoriented. the only way to get out was to walk up a steep embankment. but she was hallucinating and wasn't able to leave her car. after her rescue she learned why. doctors say her cancer had returned. >> i could see the exit. i could see the road. i could see the trucks going by. the tumor came by and swelled up and knocked me out. >> while she was trapped, she used plastic shocking bags to catch rain for drinking water. springers tumor has been removed and she is under going

radiation treatment. let's get you going into where you need to go. sal is back. you've got the latest on the muni problems. yeah muni metro. heading downtown. it was out of service for a bit because of a power outage. service has been restored. they still have shuttle buses waiting for you there. if you are popping up near church street or coming to church street and want to get on a metro bus to head downtown, the light rail service has resumed after a power outage caused delays under ground. they have fixed it a half hour ago and have restored service. the early morning commute was not up. we still have a crew on the scene. there are delays in service. some gaps in service i should say as the system is ramping back up. those trains are continuing under ground and heading out toward the embarcadero station. as far as the cal train station we should be able to take the train from west portal all the way downtown. news chopper 2 is showing us

it keeps rising. now the concerns are growing after news broke that two americans effected with the virus are being flown back here to the u.s.. social media is exploding with people who want to know about this deadly virus that has killed hundreds of people in four west african nations. it is spread by exposure from body fluids like blood. >> so sitting next to somebody on a bus or airplane or walking by them, it will not result in transmission. >> the two medical workers were stationed in liberia. officials say they will be held in isolation pods. right now there is still no known cure for ebola. the national institute of

health says it will test and experiment with the ebola vaccine as early as september. jean quan's quick respond to emergency may be add a boost to her reelection campaign. the mayor came to the aid of a elderly couple who's house broke out in flames. >> i said why don't we get away. they went next door and sat near the fence. i said no, ha is still too close. >> i was surprised to see mayor quan in the street directing a rescue mission. >> fire crews were on the scene moments later and they quickly put out that fire and kept flames from spreading to nearby homes. five people hurt in a frightening crash outside of a palo alto cafe. what the driver was trying to do moments before that crash.

he may have swerved to miss another pickup truck that was stalled alongside the road. early in the investigation they are not sure which came first. i'm told the driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital. the semi truck driver is okay. we spoke with him. he was shaken. he swerved in the westbound lanes of 580. as we said his load tipped into the eastbound lanes. they will have to shut down eastbound 580 as the tow truck tries to pull this load away from the center divide and get it off the interstate.

so you can expect major delays in both directions. katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. time is 6:35. developing news in antioch. gunfire near a golf course early this morning. it was the latest of four antioch shootings since wednesday. this map you are looking at shows where the shootings occurred including the one this morning. katietara moriarty is live. >> reporter: this was a particularly tragic event because of the victim in this case happened to be a young military vet. now if you take a look behind me, you can see crews are still cleaning. they are scraping the blood off of the sidewalk. the victim had been walking back from the store when he got into an argument with someone on the sidewalk. the victim dropped his groceries there and ran to the corner of the lamp post and ran to the fire hydrant where he

the stomach on delta fair and belt drive on july 30th. that shooting could be gang related. the victim is also expected to survive. investigators have not made any arrests in these shootings but they urge anyone that has any information that could lead to an arrest to contact them. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. an elderly man has not yet been cited or arrested after he crashed into that a palo alto restaurant and injured five people. investigators believe he accidentally stepped on the accelerator causing his car to jump the curb and hit people dining outside. they did suffer cuts and bruises two others needed surgery. a man in his 70s and 30s that had injuries to his lower leg and considered the most severely injured. >> it was certainly a shock because i had never seen anything like this happen

before. the labor department has released its monthly job report that shows a six month job game. employers added 209,000 jobs. the unemployment rate unexpectedly rose to 6.2%. analysts say that could be a sign that more job seekers are optimistic about their prospects and looking for work. here's a look at the big board. markets have only been open for less than ten minutes. it looks like the dow is down a few points. yesterday the stock market had its worst one-day drop since february but this jobs report does appear to be having a bit of an impact. the investors actually like the weaker than expected jobs report because they are always worried about the interest rates going up earlier than

expected. and too much growth they think would have accelerated pressure on the federal reserve. time is 6:39. shuttle buses for google will have to start paying to make stops in san francisco. as part of an 18 month test program by the san francisco municipal transportation agency. the san francisco chronicle says 11 shuttle operators will be charged $3.55 per stop. that is more than triple the original proposal. under the test run, the shuttles will be allowed to share all areas that are designated as muni bus stops. some are describing it like a scene from a movie. dead fish by the thousands. what is behind it and the call for help to remove them. >> soccer and football fans will be at levi stadium this weekend as it hosts its first major sporting event. we'll tell you what to expect and why all the stadium tickets are purposely not being sold.

welcome back. time is 6:43. it has been years in the making. the 49ers new stadium will host the first major sports event this weekend. it will also be levi stadium's first true test of how the parking, traffic, and security will be working. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us live from santa clara. you can tell us what to expect. good morning janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. it is quiet now. come tomorrow night there will be a lot of cheering here inside levi stadium. they are advertising it on the sign. it says the earthquakes will be playing the seattle sounders. 45,000 fans are expected. levi stadium officials are -- last week at a 49ers stadium

preview event fans were stuck in gridlock. but that because it was held on a friday not the weekend when there is no commute traffic. to buy your ticket early the longest line will most likely be the ticket line for the light rail. the earthquakes expect there to be people that are not soccer fans to come out to the game just because they want to check out the new stadium. >> there is a lot of niners fans coming in. it is their first chance to take a look at the venue. it is a great chance to get in for a lower price.

livermore valley westbound. the commute direction which is is taking most of the traffic even though the lanes are open people are still slowing to take a look at the accident which son the other side of the freeway. truck lost control there. you can see the trailer ended up in the eastbound lanes. very fortunate that no one was seriously injured in this crash when this trailer flipped over into the eastbound lanes. trying to move the trailer away from the center divider to right it. they may have to close eastbound lanes from time to time to do that. meanwhile the westbound lanes are open but you can definitely tell people are slowing down and that is the problem. this is a look at the westbound bay bridge commute. it's backed up for a 25 minute delay. we've been looking at the east shore, it has been a good commute. not only there but highway 24 looks good. 6:49 let's go to steve. there was a much bigger sea

allegations of racist death threats targeting african american workers. it's a story we told you about yesterday on the morning news. two african american maintenance workers say they have found threatening messages scrawled on their lockers at work last month. they say this shocking discovery reflects a pattern of racial discrimination of harassment that has lead to a lawsuit. and bart management was slow to respond to this latest incident. >> as soon as i reported my supervisor, the supervisor told me he was too busy and he told me to go to the next supervisor. >> however, bart issued a statement they said police were notified within an hour of that racist graffiti incident. and bart says it has hired independent investigators to find out what happened and who is responsible. suspended state senator leland yee is due back in court after pleading not guilty to a new round of criminal charges. prosecutors have added charges of racketeering to the federal case accusing him of accepting

california historic drought may be getting worse. take a look. on the left that is a drought map released one week ago by the drought mitigation center. most of the area north of the bay area is covered in red. that means an extreme drought. the map on the right shows the conditions right now. in just one week, maroon replaced the red in most of northern california. a sign of an exceptional drought. the highest category possible. the so-called drought shaming app is becoming more popular now. people are being asked to cut back on their water use. users can anonymously take a photo of the waste and then map the location for everybody to see. 30 dogs from the bay area will be flying to washington state to find new homes. those dogs which are from the
