tv Right This Minute FOX August 1, 2014 3:30pm-4:01pm PDT
3:30 pm
hi, everybody, i'm beth troutman. we have great videos and the stories behind them "right this minute." a couple of ladies are about to learn -- >> the crosswalks are there for a reason. >> -- what happens after a j jaywalker gets a ride on a cop car. if you're at the beach and you hear these words -- >> get out of the water! >> you might want to listen. see what put the hammerhead down on some summer fun. it's a fire department training exercise. >> easy enough, right? >> why it's all good till the dude with the bucket shows up. and is that a duck on the water?
3:31 pm
>> nope, it's an owl. >> the freaky move that gets them a ride to shore. >> the full owl head turn. he's just checking to see if everybody's checking him out. unless you are a huge goody two shoes, you've never done anything wrong in your life, you've probably jaywalked. but the crosswalks are there for a reason. as you can see here, these two ladies crossing the street, keep your eyes on the girl in the jean vest. they're going across the street here, weaving between the cars. they get behind this hyundai accent, and they look like the coast is clear. >> shoot. >> and that is a police officer. that hits this girl. clearly did not see her until the last second. you can hear the tires and the brakes screeching there, trying to stop. but man, she didn't look. >> she looked the other direction. >> well, now, given, she looked the other direction because that is the other lane of traffic coming that direction. however, it looks like this officer was passing people up. maybe to respond to a call or something.
3:32 pm
because yeah, i mean, traffic would be coming this way. right? but you've got to look both ways. >> the bottom line is it's terribly unfortunate for this girl. talk about bad timing. but she does pop back up. she's sitting up at the end of this video. >> she is sitting up. lots of people come out to help her out. you can see her trying to stand up. she definitely needs assistance from these people. they put her in the back of the police car, take her to get some help, of course. there is an ongoing investigation here. what the police are saying happened might not actually match up with what we're seeing here in the video. but the good news is, the girl was taken to the hospital, released that day. so she's going to be okay. if you're hanging out at the beach and you hear this -- >> get out of the water! >> -- you might want to listen. you might want to get out of the water. why would someone on a pier at navar beach in florida be yelling "get out of the water"?
3:33 pm
>> that's the universal call for >> you're exactly right. look at the video. and you clearly see that object swimming toward these people. that object is, in fact, a hammerhead shark. and watch how close it comes to these people who don't seem to care or don't seem to hear that someone's yelling at them, get out of the water. >> do they have a boat, though? >> they're swimmers. watch. the shark looks like he's headed right toward them. and listen to the guy behind the camera. >> idiots! look, it's coming right at them! >> do you want to really see the shape of this hammerhead's hammerhead? you can hear in the video people screaming. and get this. a woman named julie scarborough shot this video at crab island, which is about 23 miles from navar beach in florida. some people believe -- we haven't been able to confirm this -- but some people believe this is the same hammerhead shark. >> in the beth troutman tradition, i like to imagine there are two different sharks
3:34 pm
and they were supposed to meet on a date. and since they don't have cell phones, they went to the wrong beach to look for each other. >> i would totally like that way better. but notice at crab island, look at this hammerhead shark where it is. look at the pontoons, the boats, the rafts, the people all in this area. >> and that looks like shallow water, too. >> speaking how close it was to the shore, how shallow the water was, listen to what people say. >> they might as well go get a soda or something. i have two bits of surveillance video. they both happen very fast. this first one in australia. check this guy out. he walks into this convenience store, tries to jump over the counter but it met with two feisty attendants who start throwing things back at him. even as he brings out his big old machete to fight back and get money from these guys. they're, like, on nope, they keep throwing boxes, brooms at
3:35 pm
him. >> just goes to show you, if you've got some strength, throw a shelf. now, this next video, this guy is just strolling down the sidewalk in this neighborhood. >> i hate to tell him he's doing this all wrong, especially on the grass, not the sidewalk. >> he could be looking for work. >> or he could be stealing someone's lawn mower as if it were a walk in the park because that's exactly what he did. he gist walks up to someone's house, grabs this lawn mower worth roughly $250 and just walks away like it was no big deal. >> this is incredibly conspicuous. >> wouldn't you notice someone walking their mower down the sidewalk? >> yeah, but who would you think would steal a lawn mower? you know? it's incredibly conspicuous. also it's like i would never think a guy would steal my mower. if you can't take the heat, get your ass out of the thailand fire department because they are going to smoke you up. this is firefighters going into this shipping container looking
3:36 pm
thing. it out.re's a fire athe back. easy enough, right? you see a bunch of other firefighters and their comrades and colleagues standing around taking pictures. this is a flashover simulator. it's not about putting those flames out. it's about how to survive a flashover. you see them dousing the flames. then one guy comes in with a big old bucket of extra fuel. check it out. here he comes. when things look like it's getting too easy, this guy steps in and adds fuel to the fire. >> gosh. >> what? >> look at that. >> the flames just shot out of that thing. he walked out like a badass. he slowly creeps out. he just tosses the bucket like whatever, i'm awesome. >> he probably had to be one of the guys in the box in his career. he's probably been looking forward to doing that. >> they're trained to put out these flames. it's also a good training session to make sure you put on your gear properly because if you don't, you get burned. >> whoa!
3:37 pm
>> you see a couple of guys come out seeming like they're complaining about some hotspots on their head. and even one guy looks like his ear got burned a little bit. >> it's good that they do this, of course, because you want to make sure you know what you're doing. you're dressed properly and you're ready for any scenario. a brawl breaks out. >> and look who comes to break this fight up or get involved. a completely naked woman. >> see how she comes out swinging. >> oh! and a student pilot in training gets the unexpected when -- >> all of a sudden, things start to go a little south. >> find out if he can handle losing all power. avav
3:38 pm
i'll have my usual ultimate cheeseburger. you can have that. or-two new versions of the ultimate cheeseburger. one has sliced jalapeños and creamy ranch sauce, the other has sweet and tangy barbecue sauce and grilled onions, plus double meat and cheese like the original. new versions...? two new versions! now, this was just a training video, but these twists on my ultimate cheeseburger will blow people's minds. is that guy ok? bulldog: oooh! bulldog: mattress discounters' $197 mattress sale! television announcer: get a serta mattress, any size, for just $197 each piece
3:39 pm
3:40 pm
don't forget, get the app on your iphone, ipad or android device. then watch videos any time anywhere you are. right off the bat here, i'm just going to pause it, freeze frame because we've got a girl fight. five girls involved in this in the mckees rocks area of pittsburgh. who knows what this is about? is it important? probably not. >> maybe somebody told that girl her shirt doesn't fit. >> let me hit play, gail. you were worried about that girl's shirt. and look who comes to break this fight up or get involved. a completely naked woman. >> i stand corrected. at least she had a shirt on. >> oh! >> oh! >> there are children around, too. laugh all you want, but here's the thing.
3:41 pm
this woman stabbed two of these girls. >> where was she keeping the knife? >> in her hand. one girl was stabbed seven times in the face and in the back. nonlife-threatening injuries. of course, police looking for this woman. she's on the run. they can't find her, but they know who she is. 41-year-old lakeesh collins. they know what part of the city she's from, what part of the city she might be in right now. they believe maybe she's hiding out in new kensington. >> it would be hard to recognize her with clothes on. >> not really because check it out. we've got some aftermath of the brawl where, yes, that's some hair on the ground. and then here is lakeesh collins in a more pg dress. >> she looks like a nice lady in that picture. it looks like she just got her hair done or something. >> guess what, beth? she's not a nice lady. >> and ran ought stark ass naked to stop some people. >> police looking for her. >> officers also say that the five other women involved in this fight will also be charged.
3:42 pm
>> open mouth stupifaction. you presume that thing in the water is a water fowl, right? no, it's an owl. an owl. did it fall in? it's in the water but look at it. it looks like it's doing the backstro backstro. yeah. it's like he's on the lazy river just floating. >> did you see his head? he did the full owl head turn. he thinks he's awesome. >> notice, there is a man with a rake. and the man with the rake is escorting this owl out of the water. but the dad is rescuing the owl, but the water is capturing the video. >> please be careful. one little guy was smming in the water. now he's okeere he goes. >> i don't know if it's having a problem with its wings or legs, but it kind of just hops and flaps onto this piece. stump right there. >> i'm sure he's fine.
3:43 pm
he's just taking a dip, you know? >> he need to do dry his wings off. it was hard for him to fly with all the water weight. maybe he felt kind of stinky. >> it can happen. well, it's a beautiful day up in your helicopter. this is in a robinson r-22, a small helicopter. it's a training flight. ryan powell up there. he's got a gopro mounted on one of those chest mounts because he likes to see the movements right here. that's what this stick is called, the cyclic. all of a sudden, things start to go a little south. >> that whistling wept away. >> yeah, and you hear the power to the helicopter, that goes away, too. now it's going down. and you need to find a spot to land quickly. this is called an auto rotation. when a helicopter loses power. the main blades are still going. still have some lift. you've got to find a nice flat
3:44 pm
place to land. finding a patchy place to land here. but surprisingly, the power comes back on. this was all part of his training. the instructor surprised him with a power cut. it got him to learn how to handle that situation and where to land. they could have landed there. they didn't actually land because it was a little too risky. >> you'd almost be so freaked out you'd want to land. >> you'd think part of the training would include a diaper you could wear if they already know what they're going to do to you. because you'd probably wet your pants. some tourists encounter an elepha elephant. >> let's just say this elephant not exactly welcoming the humans. >> the standoff that turns into an attack. and dude stunned with a move that will make you say -- >> how the "f" did he do this? >> see how he steps it up.
3:48 pm
3:49 pm
>> this is so fun! >> this video shows you don't get more intense than when you have a pride of lions fighting some hyenas over some meat. this is the latest video from krueger sightings. you can see bloody faces because there is an impala carcass lying there. there are five lions here trying to eat. and apparently the hyenas thought we want to jump in and the fight begins. >> those high-pitched squeals are coming from the hyenas. >> yes. they do sound like humans. nearly four minutes into this video, the hyenas finally give up like you know what? they're not going to share. now, that was at the krueger national park in south africa. and this video from juken, this is at the zulu game preserve
3:50 pm
also in south africa. let's just say this elephant, not exactly welcoming the humans here on a safari. but this elephant kind of reminds me of that old country grandmother when she's mad at you. this elephant goes and picks up a stick. >> it's always fun to see these animals up close. but the more you see these safaris, you start to feel bad because they're, like, stressed out. >> well, the elephant apparently was stressed out because it signals the other elephants and they join in. >> what breaking news from the ktvu channel 2 news room. we want to update you on two accident as involving two uni vehicles this afternoon. this was rachel kagen from san

3:52 pm
their injuries that's obvious like broken arms? >> we don't know of any fractures right now. but there's none that's evident in terms of broken bones or other serious injuries. that's why we consider them to be in fair condition and continue to evaluate them. [ inaudible ] >> i don't know who they were. i didn't see that. >> you mentioned possible seven people earlier? >> we initially were told from the field to expect seven. that was an initial estimate from the paramedics but we did only receive five. >> so nobody from the geary. >> no one from geary and we don't expect any more patients. so we believe five is the total. correct. >> are you from the -- [ inaudible ] are you hearing that there are people seriously injured and if so how? >> we're not hearing about any

3:54 pm
>> absolutely. if you're injured it's good to seek care. i don't know the extent of this person's injuries so i can't say whether they did the right thing but we're glad they're here now. >> always good to check out. >> that's rachel kagen the spokesperson for san francisco general hospital. giving us the latest on the conditions of the patients brought to the hospital after the two separate crashes in afternoon. all of the patients taken to sf general were from one particular accident and that was the one in the bayview involving a uni light rail. you see there the at the bottom of your screen. and 18 wheeler apparently turned in front of the light rail vehicle. the light rail was knocked off of the tracks from picture we have seen at the accident scene and five people are at sf general. we understand none of the injuries are serious at this point. however, they are continuing to evaluate and make sure they are
3:55 pm

3:56 pm
this one guaranteed not to get damaged because it is use with a very special type of technology that doesn'towt to crack or break. >> oh! see, now you're talking. it's got a built-in knife, a flint on it, too. you could light a fire. >> there's more, though. let's say you are going to be away. guess what, people at home can know exactly where you are because the buckle has a gps system that will tell your loved ones at home exactly where you are in the event that maybe you got lost. you didn't come home when you said you we. >> or that your pants are somewhere they shouldn't be. >> this is a kickstarter project. these guys started back in 2004. ten years later, they are growing, trying to build their company into creating more of these slide belts. you don't get to see this every day. look into the life of a stuntman. ethan swanson, chicago native,
