now at noon, a fisherman disappears after his boat starts to take on water. the latest on the search and what they plan to do with the stranded boat. >> and a bold burglar caught on camera, chucking a rock through a sliding glass door. we'll tell you where this happen and what he got away. plus, right now, the 49ers are hitting the field at levi's stadium. coming up, the lucky fans getting to watch their team practice at the brand new stadium for the first time.

good afternoon. i'm noelle walker in for tori campbell. we're following breaking news out of east contra costa county where fire crews are working to put out a grass fire in brentwood. it is burning on marsh creek road near round valley regional preserve, not far from highway 4. the contra costa county fire department is concerned about the amount of smoke being created by this fire and they are calling in quite a large response. the fire is not threatening any homes at this time. we will continue to follow this and pass along any updates as we get them. this afternoon, several emergency crews remain at san francisco's ocean beach where a fishing boat ran aground but its captain is still missing. ktvu's brian flores has been there all morning. he joins us life with the challenges and what they plan to do this afternoon. >> reporter: behind mean the 50- foot fishing boat remains but the search for the boat's lone operator has been suspended. low tide hit meaning crews will

begin to remove the boat from the shore, putting it on the beach within the hour. but they are getting a more detailed look inside the boat to see what happened. the poloma would normally be fishing off the pacific but something happened that damaged the boat and forced the operator to abandon ship. >> we don't know the cause of the grounding itself but, you know, obviously started looking for the individual himself. >> reporter: the coast guard says the operator of the boat is timothy lybrand of santa cruz. officials say he radioed a grand of his on another fishing boat at 3:30 this morning saying the paloma was taking on water. the coast guard was notified. witnesses say they saw somebody jump from the ship and try to shim to shore. >> assuming he was fishing, he's not in the federal registered fisheries that we could figure out if he was out there specifically searching or

-- or fishing for a type of fish but we'll continue to run down those leads as well. >> reporter: the san francisco fire department was the first to arrive on scene. they sent a couple of divers early on into the water and on the boat's deck. nobody was found. the crashing surf made the boat unstable also. the coast guard also sent a patrol boat and helicopter to search the water for lybrand. california fish and game was notified because of the concern for the small amount of diesel that spilled. >> there is the potential for 400 gallons. that's how big the tank is. we don't know how long he was at sea and used how much of that fuel, et cetera. so we'll be working with the salvagers to figure out the waste to contain that. >> reporter: along with the endangered species that call ocean beach home is a concern. >> what the salvage will be trying to do is to stabilize

the vessel and if they can't do that in the sufferline -- sufficient line, they may -- the surf line, they may pull it up. they would remove any fuel or hazardous materials on board. >> reporter: now, the et coast guard also says -- the coast guard said that timothy radioed his friend and said he had a life vest before he attempted to swim to shore. now, again, the coast guard says they've suspended the operations for lybrand. the salvage and cleanup they say will take most of the day. we're live in ocean beach, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. multiple investigations are underway after an alameda county sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man suspected of being connected to a home- invasion robbery. avenue. the drama started when oakland police officers spotted a stolen volvo near 55th and fairfax avenues. that car was reported stolen july 12th during a home- invasion robbery. >> during the home-invasion robbery, some of the victims were pis poll whipped, the vehicle and -- pistol-whipped, the vehicle and a very similar description of the suspect was described. >> the -- the k-9 unit was called in. the oakland police, district attorney's office and the sheriff's office are all investigating this incident. the deputy is on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure after a shooting. a ktvu viewer is hoping surveillance video will help catch a man she says broke into her house in san jose's cambrian neighborhood. in the video, you can clearly see a man smash a sliding glass door with a large rock he's holding in his hand. the homeowner says the suspect stole a large case of washes, then he walked out the front

door where another surveillance camera captured him walking down the driveway. he drove off in a black sedan. anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call police. a public bathroom in san leandro apartment complex is the focus of a police investigation after a teenaged girl said she was sexually assaulted inside it. she says the assault happened saturday afternoon at the lakeside apartments. the public bathrooms have security doors for apartment residents. but police say it is possible that an outsider followed someone inside. there are few details about a suspect and some residents told ktvu they are nervous. >> we found out that there are a couple of registered sex offenders that live here and that did definitely discourage us to a certain degree. >> the megan's law website shows more than 20 sex offenders live within a mile of

that apartment. in mountain view, a 43-year- old man is under arrest of lewd acts with a child. he was taken into custody by mountain view police on friday. he was working as a handyman at an apartment complex when police say he encountered two girls, age 7 and 9 on separate occasions. those girls said he lured them into a secluded area and touched them inappropriately. detective are searching for other victims. closing arguments are underway in the trial of a concord teacher accused of molesting 14 students. the lawyer for joseph martin said 44 of the 150 counts have been dropped. the woodside teacher claims the physical contact he had with the male students was not sexual. the family of a cam football play who died after a conditioning drill is filing a wrongful lawsuit. ted agu's family plans to

announce the lawsuit against the regents of the california of california tomorrow. the 21-year-old died in february after experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath. his family said coaches and trainers failed to help him. he died at hospital. the coroner found he had a common heart condition that can lead to sudden cardiac. happening now, some lucky 49er fans are getting a chance to see the team practice for the first time on new turf at levi's stadium. janine de la vega is there and joins us live. janine? >> reporter: the gates just opened here at levi's stadium about seven minutes ago. tazman avenue has been a sea of red. you can see the fans waiting on the pedestrian bridge. the line has gotten shorter but it snaked down the street. many fans have not never been in the stadium. they feel lucky to be the first to watch the team take

its first steps on the field. 10,000 fans were chosen in a drawing online to be able to watch the 49ers hold their first practice at levi's stadium. they started to arrive at 10:30 a.m. and congregate with other fans. everyone was decked out bringing memorabilia with them in hopes of meeting the players and getting signatures. some traveled from outside of the bay area to watch the practice. one couple flew in from new mexico and they said it's worth it. >> it's a great feeling to see all of these people, 9er fans. a great feeling. >> i'm superexcited. i can't wait to meet colin kaepernick! >> i want to get in and see the players. for my son, something that might motivate him to push harder at practice. >> reporter: management has not said whether the fans will be able to meet the plans but some are hoping to get close. again, the gates just opened.

neighbors were disappointed to find out that part of the pier is closed. >> it is sad because this pier's been here a long time. i went across in '64 last time for the ferry. my dad took us across. it's been here for a long time. brings back a lot of memory. >> s the location of this fire posed a challenge for firefighters. it took more than four hours to get it under control. the exact cause is unclear, but the fire marshal told ktvu there is evidence someone started the fire. they just don't know if it was an accident. former white house press secretary and gun control advocate james brady has died. bray dpi was wounded during -- brady was wounded during the assassination attempt on ronald reagan. after the shooting, he undertook a personal crusade for gun control. the white house press room briefing room is named after him as well.

his family said in a statement that he passed away after a series of health issues. he was 73 years old. one american health worker infected with the ebola virus is coming back to the u.s. and a second one is on her way. the latest on the spread of the deadly virus. a lot of clouds over the bay area today. ktvu's steve paulson will be here to tell you if this could mean any rain on the way. plus, homeowners in shasta county are defying evacuation orders as they stay to defend their homes from a raging wildfire. the details of that and several other fires burning in northern california that have the state's resources stretched very thin.

an american missionary nurse infected with the ebola is expected to be transported to the u.s. she's the second worker to come home from treatment this as the death toll from the ebola virus continues to rise. the number of people who have died went from 729 to 887 in reap sent days. more than -- recent days. more than 1300 people have been infected with ebola in west africa. the majority of deaths are in guinea, liberia and sierra

leone. >> the risk in west africa are very plob memberratic. there's concern about not being able to control it in africa. >> eesh currently has no -- ebola currently has no vaccine. they say there's hope that a vaccine will be available as early as next july. some people in eastern shasta county are defying mandatory evacuation orders and trying to protect their homes as an out-of-control wildfire rages. it's now burned 26,000 acres and destroyed at least eight homes. people in the area told a local news station they are staying with their homes to put water on their properties and clear dry brush. the fire was sparked by lightning on thursday night. the california national guard tweeted this photo taken at the fall river mills airport in shasta county. it shows an enormous plume of

smoke from the fire. firefighters from as far away have been called in to help. a large fire that was burning in oregon has now crossed over into california. strong winds fueled that fire yesterday afternoon. it has burned more than 36,000 acres and is threatening homes in both states. lightning sparked the fire last week. firefighters have a long way to go. right now, it is just 20% contained. right now, fire crews are stretched thin as they beatle several major -- battle several major wildfires in northern california. several bay area strike teams are deployed to help fight the firefighters. on saturday, governor brown declared a state of emergency in order to secure federal grant money to help cover the cost of fighting those fires. he says the drought conditions and warm temperatures are making this fire season tougher than usual. calfire says normally we don't seep this many fires until -- sea this many fires until late september. in southern california, a 48-year-old el segundo man is

dead and at least eight homes are destroyed after flash floods caused massive mudslides in los angeles county. yesterday, a thunderstorm in the san bernardino mountains caused a creek to overflow. now crews are clearing several feet of mud, rocks and debris that have blocked several roads overnight. at least 2500 people in the rural communities of oak glen and forest falls were stranded by those blocked roads. the san bernardino fire department says the flooding threatened homes near the creek but people living nearby were not forced to evacuate. >> we got dozers in place. bulldozers and front-end loaders working to try to clear the debris. and when we do that, we'll be able to make better access and -- can get a better assessment of what's going on. >> the man who died was found in a car that was swept into the creek. the los angeles county sheriff's aerial rescue team saved several other people. firefighters say they expect to be working in that area for the next three to four days.

well, that moisture responsible for the flooding down in san bernardino county has been pumping north warned. it's raining up -- northward. it's raining at blue canyon, also at truckee. there's been light rain in the sacramento valley. a lot eflow clouds. it's a com-- a lot of low clouds. it's a combination of low clouds and tropical clouds. humid, muggy conditions. we have hurricane izell, category 4. wind 140 miles an hour. yes, it's making a b-line towards the hawaiian islands. it's still three and a half, four day away. it's moving northwest at ten miles an hour. keep an eye on that thursday night or friday. there is another one behind that, tropical storm julio. it's about 1,000 miles away from hilo. a lot of things going on here. strange summer continues. you can see the moisture wrapping back around from the lee side of the sierra over reno and then parents of the sierra nevada and then the

northern sacramento valley. south of that things have died down. but the moisture source continues to be there. low so low clouds, high cloud. humidity is up, up, up. drizzle likely into tuesday. the key is the low which has been moving northward. some of that may wrap around us. if it does, we'll have a better opportunity for rain. i still think it's a north bay event. it's getting closer. some of this is heading back to sacramento. maybe late tonight, some towards davis. water vapor loop, you can see the low right there. that's the circulation behind that. it's not going anywhere for a couple of days. it's 70 in fairfield. 70 in hayward. and that's warmer than concord and livermore. yes, i know. wackiness. it's 70 out in modesto. our strange summer here just every day something new it seems like. 17 gusting to 24 at fairfield. west at concord. west at oakland.

it's mainly west at sfo. 61 da hope. 64 in reno. 65 in monterey and sacramento is only 70. all of this cloud cover is making for a uniform on the temperatures. the moisture source will be on the western edge. in anything develops, it will be late tonight, tomorrow underneath all of that, we have the low clouds. nothing yet around sacramento. there is a little bit towards dixon. some of that may flip brentwood or oakley. plenty of moisture. a lot of clouds. so far no lightning strikes. that's good but look at that train of moisture heading towards sacramento, northern sacramento valley and maybe towards lake county. a lot of clouds, some showers, maybe to the east. very light or sprinkles. some fun. if you get any sun, the humidity is through the roof. 70s to 80s. twmps have come -- temperatures have come down 20 degrees since last friday. temperatures running on the cool side. a lot of these are cloud

driven. with that -- if you get any sun, it could be warmer but because the cloud cover is in place temperatures have come down. they are kind of held in check. i think we're in this pattern until late tuesday, early wednesday. i will tell you, though, i mean, i've never seen a july in all of this tropical moisture carry into august. usually we get the end of august or september. >> it's so bizarre. i closed my window today because i wasn't sure if it was gonna rain. >> it may tomorrow. breaking news out of san francisco, where firefighters are battling a two-alarm building fire. this is a live picture from one of our traffic traffic-- cameras. the fire is burning on mcalister near market, close to the un plaza. we're hearing this is at a construction site. we have a ktvu crew headed to the scene. you can follow us on facebook and twitter for more updates.

stocks are moderately higher in afternoon trading. they've been moving in between small gains and losses. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is up roughly

about 78 points. 86 points. a nationwide data breach may have compromised the credit of some people in the bay area. we're learning more about the breach at pf chang's restaurants involving 33 restaurants across the country. the company announced the list that includes the palo alto restaurant. the security breach was first reported in june when they announced that some customer data from credit and debit cards may have been stolen. the numbers happened between last october and june. federal regulators are warning consumers about mobile shopping apps that may not protect your privacy. the federal trade commission released a report on 121 mobile shopping apps that you find on the apple app and google. the apps do not explain how they manage and protect personal data. and that appears in some cases. consumers could be liable for
