attempted homicide. maureen naylor is live where she spoke with the victim's family. >> reporter: i spoke to the father, they remain at the south bay hospital tonight and police say they will survive by family members tell me they cannot believe the gunman's disregard for life apparently over a few dollars. >> he emptied his gun into two people as they were leaving. one of the establishments in the prune yard. and left them essential little bleeding to death in the parking lot. >> reporter: this weekend's violence was the talk of downtown campbell tonight. >> you just don't expect that from a small little, area. that's kind of scary now. >> reporter: this after police say an innocent couple heading home after a night out had been

shot multiple times around 12:30 sunday morning at this parking lot behind the first branch bank across from the prune yard shopping center. >> me and my friends just went downtown. we walked from my apartment. before we went out we see a crime over here which is even scarying. >> reporter: the victim a diving instructor and his girlfriend were seen on this photo on social media just two hours before they were shot. the young woman was walking in a parking lot, her boyfriend in the car when she was approached by a gunman who demanded her money. >> during that confrontation, the male victim arrived and a struggle ensued. after that both of them were shot. >> reporter: a few moments later, the same suspects robbed a woman at campbell right next to a popular hang out. a few streets down. >> i never heard of anything

estate agents who helped close to deal say they've seen a huge demand for property in that area fueled in part by the twitter headquarters. the century old renoire building was particularly attractive. >> it has a lot of unique character, sort of a hip, hipster kind of place. >> reporter: we're told the basement of the building is flooded with two feet of water. the damage is expected to set back the renovation work for several weeks. the cause of the fire is not yet known. a dangerous rescue operation is now waiting on the next high tide to try to refloat a fishing boat that ran aground and is now stuck in the surf. jana katsuyama about a half mile south of the cliff house across from golden gate park. that's where she watched this evening as the driver battled the waves to secure an anchor

line to that boat. jana. >> reporter: take a look at this, this big piece of machinery is basically serving as an anchor. there's an orange line right here that goes all the way out to the capsized boat that's just offshore. it really was an incredible sight here tonight. i was even holding my breath as that diver was fighting wave after wave tonight. crews moved big equipment out to the water. from shore the 50-foot paloma seems large enough to reach out and touch but even with the low tide, waves kept crashing in. a dive with the salvage company prepared to head out and tie a line. once he reached the boat he balanced on the starboard side anchoring the line then as crews strained up the rope to pull him back to shore. >> i was hanging on to dear life for sure. and thanks to my crew they

brought me in on a lifeline. >> reporter: the hope is to pull it on to shore once the rip goes down. >> it's a touch and go thing. >> reporter: the call for help came early this morning. crew from another boat say it is palomas captain called about 3:45 a.m. saying his boat was taking on water and he was going to try to swim ashore with a life vest. the crew arrived to find debris on the beach, including beer cans but no sign of the captain. tonight the main concern is keeping the boat from drifting away from morning when they will use the cables and high tide to try to pull the wreckage out of the surf. >> it's not that easy and there's a sand bar now build up on the front of it but on the backside of it it's about 12 feet deep. >> reporter: the fuel is already leaking out of the boat. you can smell it from here on shore. that is going to be their first priority because the boat has

the capacity of 400-gallons they don't want any more to leak out before that boat comes apart. they do plan to be out here at 6:00 a.m. as the first light of day to try to get that boat pulled back as for the captain, well police and the coast guard they're both still trying to locate that captain who was on the boat timothy librand. tonight in san francisco, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. a rare summer sight right now. storm tracker 2 is monitoring rain moving across parts of northern california. our meteorologist rosemary orozco is tracking it for us tonight. >> and she's in the weather center with what we have coming. >> if you like sprinkles they'll be falling. as we get going tomorrow morning the possibility of a few scattered showers. giving you a view closer. most of the bay area still dry. tracking some rain as it's moving its way through parts of

the delta. most of this stuff is very light. most of it not even hitting the ground just yet. then eventually we do have that possibility of scattered showers over the area. i think this is going to linger through tuesday. so you may have that possibility of a few scattered showers on your head. i'll have a look at the futurecast model. i will show you when our best opportunity to see some of that rain will move through and when it will move out, back to you. a husband and wife from san ramon died over the weekend in a boating accident in lake tahoe. their boat slammed right into a dock. new information from amber lee. she's live in san ramon where she spoke to some people who knew the couple. amber. >> reporter: frank i've learned that the wife was a psychiatrist here inside this business park on camino real and that her husband helped her with her practice. the couple was killed when their boat crashed into a dock.

the el dorado county sheriff's office says the boat was speeding and the hull of the vessel was split in half. >> i'm just totally shocked right now. it's really sad. >> reporter: neighbors say the san ramon couple enjoyed boating. during the summer the two would often take their boat a 19-foot 1997 gastron similar to this one out on lake del val. >> they pretty much took it out every weekend. it was an older boat. i would see them leave saturday morning and come back saturday night. >> reporter: visitors from russia would attend their home. we learned that sakayava was a psychiatrist with a inhome practice. her husband described himself as a computer software professional on linked in. >> they are just very nice

people. they're quiet. they keep to themselves. they have a lot of family visiting from russia a lot of times and they're just kind of quiet people. >> the coast guard says it helped rescue 300 people in a lake tahoe crew. the tahoe queen hit the sand bar around 3:00 this afternoon. the mississippi paddle wheel operated off the marina. health officials in new york are playing down concerns that a man now hospitalized in manhattan may have been infect with the ebola virus. the man was put in isolation within seven minutes of arrivalling at mount sinai hospital today. doctors say he had a high fever and stomach problems and had recently visited a west african country where ebola is active. but doctors say it's unlikely

themselves to be a peace officer, detaining them, in any way, demanding anything of them we would like to know. >> reporter: so far one couple has called to say a car and driver matching the description tailed them on the freeway. they thought he was a real officer, they slowed down. he eventually went on his way. anyone who's had even closer contact should call the sheriff's department. reporting live in santa rosa, debora villalon, ktvu news. fremont police arrested a man after they say he broke into a home and sexually assaulted a woman inside. 34-year-old jamal morris was arrested just hours after police say he broke into a home on paseo parkway. it happened yesterday. police say he waited for a mother and her adult daughter to come home and then tied them up before sexually assaulting the mother. morris ran away with money and other items after a male resident returned to the home. he's a convicted felon and is scheduled to be arraigned

tomorrow. the family of a cal football player who died after he collapsed during a conditioning work out is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the university of california. ted agu died in february. his family claims, coaches and trainers failed to immediately help the 21-year-old after he began experiencing symptoms. members of the training staff saw him struggling and pulled him out before he passed out. two nummi accidents friday and dozens of people hurt. resources were overwhelmed. tonight there are questions about ambulances in the city and how patients are often left waiting when every minute counts. david stevenson learned that authorities on friday had to ask for help from outside the city. >> reporter: the emergency calls started coming just after 1:30 friday afternoon. two separate accidents involved

hundreds of linked in employees have finally been paid. the move follows an investigation by the u.s. department of labor that says linked in failed to record and pay for all hours worked by employees. the money will be paid in four states including here in california. wall street bounced back today after big losses last week. the dow was up 75 points. the nasdaq added 31. some strong earnings reported and a european bank rescue helped move the marks higher. now to alameda, the contra costa sheriff's office said news coverage and social media posts brought in tips that led them to identify 29-year-old kyle fashion of walnut creek. we showed you this home surveillance video of one of the burglaries. the burglar broke through one of the windows and stole

thousands of the dollars of belongings. a lawsuit filed by pg & e shareholders over that deadly san bruno pipeline explosion can now go forward. today a san mateo superior court just lifted a stay. the lawsuit seeks to find pg & e personally responsibility instead of rate payers. that explosion happened in september of 2010. pg & e could end up facing more than a billion dollars in fines from the state alone. the shareholders attorney says shareholders and rate payers should not have to bare that burden. golden gate transit workers voted to organize a strike. about 450 workers including bridge iron workers ferry captains and bus mechanics have

been without a contract since july 1st. they say the district's proposed three year contract would raise their health care costs which would wipe out a pay increase. a strike would shut down bus and ferry service. the coalition says it will continue to bargain and that at this point no strike day has been set. google said they played part in the arrest of a man accused of pornographic material. scanning technology alerted them to pornographic images in the inbox. some people today are angry on what they call snooping. >> i don't like it. because that's my e-mail. >> whether from your phone or

other devise. google insists what you send through a third party is not private. >> i'm just surprised that there aren't privacy laws that prohibit them from scanning every e-mail. >> reporter: google changed its terms of service four months ago to explicitly allow searches of e-mail content. >> i don't have anything to hide so i don't really care. >> reporter: google isn't saying exactly how it discovered this alleged child pornography but the company confirmed to me today that it is using so called hashing technology. which allows it to search for unique digital fingerprints on known images. >> mountain view based google says it partners with the national center for missing and exploited children to identify certain images the company also added this in an e-mail. it's important to remember that we only use this technology to identify child sexual abuse imagery not other e-mail content that could be associate with criminal activity, for example using e-mail to plot a burglary.

were missing. >> are there any other cases you can talk to me about. >> reporter: a man who answered the phone last month declined to comment on any of the cases 2 investigates examined but said the company operates in 125 locations a year. >> the more ride you have the more people you have riding them. the more, you increase the chance of an incident. >> reporter: scott pratter is a senior engineer with the state and a long time ride inspector. >> is there an expectation that larger operator should be better quipped, better versed dealing with safety. >> i think we hold everyone to the same standard regardless of size. if you're a one man operation with one ride versus an operation where you're running 100 rides you're held to the same standard. >> reporter: fairgoers can also do their own checking, each ride should have a sticker with the state i.d. number once it's been inspected. all part of an effort to catch

potential problems before there's an accident. >> reporter: out of all the accidents and injuries, state inspectors say that you should check if the ride has been inspected before you led your children ride. a major clean up is under way after torrential rains triggered mud slides. several feet of mud flowed through the mountains killing one man. more than 30 homes were damaged and many cars are still stranded.

crews worked to free hundreds of children who were trapped at a church camp surrounded by mud and rocks. the same system that brought all that rain now working through central california. you see green on the screen and showers developing. let's dive in and we'll take a look at where a few light sprinkles will be hitting the ground in some points. in areas like sonoma, toward fairfield and stretching into areas like concord. i see some there as well. getting in a little bit closer. we do have just a few light showers and not many places reporting any at all at this point. but i think as we get into the overnight hours, our chances will become better.

crockett, benitia. a few scattered showers are expected. i want to back up just a little bit here. you can see most of the moisture over northern california. and we do have this system here. this is what was over southern california just yet. an actual system drawing that moisture giving it some lift. and we've got some light rain over our area tonight into tomorrow. i think it's going to remain. another vantage shot here without the rain on the radar screen. you can see where most of this moisture is over northern california. going to show you the futurecast model. hasn't really been doing a very good job at picking up the moisture with these monsoonal events that have moved through the bay area in the next month or so. as we get into the overnight hours, note a -- notice a lot of cloud cover. we have the light clouds along the coast. mix of sun and clouds around the bay area. i think we will see patchy drizzle once again even though again it's not really picking up on much. it has more of this moisture over northern california. the best possibility of
