b.a.r.t. service through the transbay two comes to a complete halt as authorities investigate a bomb threat on a bus beneath the tracks. good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> i'm gasia mikaelian in for julie haener. b.a.r.t. trains are rolling again at this hour. after a concern of a bomb disrupted service. the bomb threat involved this ac transit bus. police stopped it beneath the tracks at the west oakland station and ordered everyone to get out. the concern a possible bomb hidden away in the compartment of the bus. the incident at the west oakland statement stopped

b.a.r.t. service through the tube until about 9:30. noelle walker has been talking to people stranded waiting for trains but we begin in west oakland where john sasaki had a front row seat all night long as authorities worked on that bus, john. >> reporter: gasia, they just moved that bus away about 25 minutes ago when it was parked on chester directly under those b.a.r.t. tracks. you see above there. that's when b.a.r.t. traffic to and from san francisco was completely shut down for nearly two hours. we've been here since the bomb threat brought everything here to a screeching halt. the b.a.r.t. station was closed and everybody evacuated and so were several streets. some residents were even told to stay inside their homes. this happened after someone called in a bomb threat about that specific bus to the chp. so b.a.r.t. police brought in their bomb sniffing dogs one which they said hit on a compartment on

that bus. the bomb squad was brought in, but before the technician could make his way around, they had to bring in another bus. >> it was a situation where we couldn't use a robot. so he physically had to go in there and make a hand entry. found that there was no explosives inside that compartment and now the bus has been cleared and lines have resumed service. >> reporter: at 9:10, we saw the train leave. and at 9:15 we saw a new train come to the scene. noelle walker was there a  bus bridge or trains for people

to get where they needed to go. >> reporter: we've seen that in the past but this time no. passengers said they got no direction other than get off the train. all of them wondering how to get to their destinations. >> reporter: they say a picture speaks a thousand words. but these photos posted on social media by ktvu viewers stuck on the b.a.r.t. platform and at the transbay terminal are screaming one word, gridlock. >> we're just stuck. it is what it is. >> reporter: we found brandy solano who came in from fresno only to be stranded dropped for a concert. >> we're stuck here because we chose public transportation to try to be safe to be at the beyonce, jay z concert. >> and how is it going for you?

>> not too good so far. i'm stranded at the moment. >> reporter: commuters told us they didn't get any direction from b.a.r.t. they just got the boot at merit. >> i wish they would have told us, if that were the case we would have taken our car and we would have been there. >> i'm from denver, so i don't know my way. >> reporter: practicing what we learn when we're five, how to share. >> the stanford, in downtown san francisco. >> reporter: so what's your solution? >> sharing a cab. >> reporter: so lots of people trying to make the best of a bad situation. if they didn't save any time in all of this they at least did save some money, sharing. san francisco's transbay terminal long lines formed with people hoping to hop a bus across the bay. ac transit offers bus service into oakland.

a few minutes after the all clear came. in the past few minutes the traffic has gotten much better although you can see it is definitely heavier than normal for this time of night in both direction. the head lights are headed toward the bay bridge. moving to the other side of the bay at new bay bridge the eastern span there, it's also a little heavier than normal. you can see the back up there although things pick up as you head past treasure island. and a reminder, whenever news breaks turn to ktvu on twitter for the very latest. we're posting updates from our crews on the field as news happens. she's been accused of trying to sneak on to flights before and this time she made it. we told you about maryland hartman's repeated attempts to board a plane. this time she managed to board a plane. she ended up in los angeles

where she was arrested. maureen naylor live at san jose airport with the questions this latest stow away case is raising about security there. >> reporter: hartman was able to get to the upstairs security check. but the one question that hasn 't been answered is how she managed to do it. >> reporter: flights were landing and taking off as usual tonight at the airport. 24 hours after police say a san francisco woman managed to board southwest flight 3785 to los angeles and get through this tsa security checkpoint without a ticket. >> you know one single person able to do something like that it does raise the hackless in -- hackles on the back of the neck a little bit. >> reporter: she's been arrested four times at sfo for trying to board a flight to hawaii without a valid boarding pass and for violating a stay away order. >> kind of weird.

>> reporter: hartman was checked with all of the other passengers but failed to show a ticket. >> that is concerning because anyone can get on a plane and do what whatever they want to do. >> reporter: the airport security systems and processes were not a factor in this incident and public safety was never compromised. passengers at l.a.x. took passengers into custody for trespassing after a tsa agent discovered she was unticketed. this comes four months after a 15-year-old boy managed to jump the fence at san francisco airport and board a flight to maui. they maintain they're different unrelated incidents because hartman was not screened. but that does not put anyone at ease. >> it relieves the situation. but the over all safety factor it does kind of, makes me wonder a little bit. >> reporter: the tsa says it has made minor modifications to the lay out of the check inarea

to prevent another i said -- another i -- incident like this. maureen naylor. more information on a freeway accident that killed one person and injured another when a car slammed right into a roadside work crew, tonight we're learning more about the young man who was killed in a search for a better life that led him to be part of that work crew. jana katsuyama live near the marsh road exit where that accident happened. >> reporter: the coroner's office tells me that the victim is mark santos he was 24 years old and he was working right over there alongside 101 when the car veered off the road, hit the two workers, the fence, and four parked cars. >> reporter: it happened so fast, the black mercedes heading south on highway 101 suddenly veered off the road at 9:00 a.m. where a four person crew was

working on the grass near by. santos was hit and killed. >> it's been a terrible day here for our staff and caltrans crews especially. and for all the people working with him. we're really devastated by this loss. >> reporter: a loss that staff say is affecting santo's coworkers deeply. santos was part of a crew under contract with caltrans. >> it's absolutely essential that people have an option and have the opportunity to get the work experience and to get the training that they need to be able to have a second chance. and that is what is also so devastating about what happened today. with this young man. >> reporter: another man on the crew and the female driver were both taken to the hospital with

minor injuries. investigators said today they'll be looking whether drugs, alcohol or a medical condition may have contributed to the crash. jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. a u.s. army general was killed today in afghanistan in what's being described as one of the bloodiest insider attacks of that war. two star major general harold green was 55 years old and had been in the army for 34 years. he lived with his family in false church virginia. the pentagon said a man dressed in an afghan army uniform opened fire at a base outside of kabul reportedly firing indiscreminently. major general green had been in afghanistan since january. it was his first deployment to a war zone. the san jose police

department is apologizing for the secretive way it went about buying a drone. the department paid $7,000 for a drone like this one back in january. a watchdog group unveiled the records and went public. they say it would have had other uses as well. police say the public will have a chance to comment and the faa still has to give its approval and in a statement the department said, sjpd will not use the uas until this outreach and procedural steps have been completed and approved. the u.s. times is reporting the largest known theft of credentials ever. some 1.2 billion user names and pass words have been stolen. security experts say it is the work of a criminal gang of fewer than 20 men in their 20s in russia. security experts in milwaukee discovered the theft. the gang also had half a

tonight who investigates what may be a double life of a man wanted for a string of burglaries. john sasaki looked into the men's past and it appears he works in the tech industry. >> reporter: the owner of this house in alamo says he bought security cameras just for a moment like this. >> i see him clear as day. he either doesn't know we had cameras or didn't care. >> reporter: the camera shows him taking off with $20,000 worth of property. >> he took off with our laundry basket. we thought there goes my wife's jewelry. a towel. there goes the silverware. the tv, there goes the tv. >> reporter: social media tells

a different story. according to fashions linked in page he's a tech executive. a detailed resume shows he got a debris from uc san diego. in fact, contra costa county investigators credit social media for identifying fashion and possibly linking him to other burglaries. once they posted the surveillance video to facebook tips started pouring in. >> we've had about 8,000 views on our you tube channel about 5,000 views. it went out to 6,000 people through twitter. >> reporter: two investigates discovers it's not fashion's first run in with the law. police caught him red handed during a bank robbery in south lake tahoe in 2011. investigators in that case say police caught fashion entering the bank with sunglasses, gloves and a duffel bag. the only problem, he left his keys in the car and police arrested him as he was trying

to make his get away. he pleaded guilty and only served about six months in jail. fashion violated probation last year trying to steal merchandise from a safe way. it has some wondering how he ended up on this porch in alamo. >> how is he out already and so, without care or worry that he's burglarizing houses in the middle of day. one footnote here we did hear back from a spokeswoman at the high tech company innotas. she says that fashion is no longer employed there although she would not say when or why they parted company. the second highest ranking judge pled not guilty to misdemeanor drunk driving. tests showed he had a blood alcohol level of .12. judge scott is scheduled to be back in court october 27. he faces a maximum of six

months in jail and $10,000 fine. santa clara county superior court announced that it is slashing services at two of its courthouses. how far people will have to go now to get their cases heard, ken pritchett has the story. >> reporter: court advocates say the court system has not yet been made whole. the result cuts announced today in santa clara county to courthouses in morgan hill and here in palo alto. it would mean for example if you have a traffic court date in either city after october 6, you would then have to drive to another courtroom in santa clara. >> reporter: the doors won't be locked, the courthouses in palo alto and morgan hill will not be closed but each will lose a courtroom and services such as traffic court relocated to other cities. >> we're here to provide justice, we're here to serve people and today we tell them we're not going to do that at

the level we did. >> reporter: bryan walsh calls it a sad day for the people of santa clara county due to budget cuts. it will mean the end of traffic and small claims court at the palo alto courthouse. and the same as the morgan hill courthouse with the exception of -- people with cases will have to drive to san jose or santa clara. >> that will mean a longer ride. a tougher road to get justice, it's not right. >> reporter: santa clara's courts face an 800,000 hole in june. the council passed a budget that included more than $100 million in increases but it cames after years of deep cuts. >> we needed $262 million for the trial courts just to break even statewide. last year was a very difficult year. >> reporter: since 2010, 64 courthouses in california have been closed along with 205 courtrooms affecting 2 million californians according to the judicial council of california. >> they're going to feel it and

it's not fair to them. >> reporter: court advocates are trying to get the legislature to restore that funding. when that funding returns the funding they've lost here the services will return to these two courthouses until then, they are trying to figure out ways to make it easier on the public such as scheduling court dates or court times that are away from the busy commute hours so that people have an easier time getting to these courthouses. in palo alto, ken pritchett, ktvu news. the umbrellas came out this evening in san francisco. we spotted a few before the bey o nce-jay z show. any rain in august is very unusual. rosemary orozco is tracking the weather. >> reporter: we have seen very little change in where most of this moisture remains over the north bay. and you can see it here on the screen. we had a little bit of patchy

drizzle. a few light scattered showers. passed through san francisco. nothing registering in the last -- or the second half of the day. this morning we had quite a bit of rain at least by august standards. i'll show you some of those totals in the next go around. a few scattered showers off the coastline you can see near dillan beach. if i shift south just a little bit we're mainly dry. maybe a little bit of patchy drizzle within these clouds here but that's really about it. we're not done just yet though. let me back it up and show you more is on the way. we're going northeast in a southwest direction. this is what we'll see as we get through the evening hours and for tomorrow morning as well. i'll run you through here in the futurecast model as we get through tomorrow morning. not a lot being picked up here. with all this cloud cover, patchy drizzle the potential of a few scattered showers will get with us. we get into the afternoon we finally begin to clear out some. over the sierra still the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. but for us here at home we're

practice filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the uc board of regents. the family is raising questions about a trainer for the team and claims there were warning signs that went unnoticed. >> reporter: the agu family gathered with their attorneys on the courthouse steps. ted agu died after a football work out. he was nicknamed premed ted because he wanted to be a doctor. family members say football staff should have recognized that agu was in danger. >> unfortunately ted lost his life due to the lack of supervision and training and by the cal medical and athletic staff. >> reporter: an office revealed agu suffered sickle cell anemia but died of a heart condition. a doctor who worked with cal athletes in the past says an ekg can spot such conditions.

>> with every passing year people just understand that there's kind of tests out there including the ekg that can be useful in screening. >> reporter: lawyers say agu's training at cal was the same training linked to the death of another player at the university of central florida six years ago. erik planter died during practice in florida in 2008. >> the same thing happened here. >> reporter: late this afternoon the cal athletic department put out a statement saying in part, while we cannot discuss any students specific medical history, we follow protocalls including those outlined by the ncaa for student athletes with medical conditions. it's not clear if an ekg was performed on agu and whether or not the school knew he had a heart condition. in oakland, ken wayne, ktvu news. stocks fell to their lowest levels since may. the dow was down 139 points.

several traders said reports that russia could invade ukraine triggered the sell off. bay area workers are seeing their paychecks go up at more than twice the national rate and analysts say that jobs in the tech sector are largely responsible for that. the u.s. bureau of statistics says total compensation grew 4.6% from june of last year to june of this year. over all growth was up 2%. apple fans you may have just one more month of waiting. the speculation is that the company will unveil its newest iphone. iphone releases usually happen in september. media reports say that apple will likely offer two models with larger screens to compete with samsung which uses android system. a young girl assaulted. the sketch that police have now released in hopes of arresting an attacker as some are worried

message. concord has found its rhythm. in keeping crime low. >> i was born and raised here. my dad was born and raised here. family atmosphere. >> reporter: this man says he's seen concord's ups and downs. >> task force is pushing the bad boys out. >> reporter: safe but not crime free. over the weekend a woman was found unconscious and bleeding at hill creek park. police say she may have been sexually assaulted a reminder for this grandmother to be vigil. >> it's everywhere now. whether you live in a small community, large community, in a middle community out in the sticks some where. >> reporter: she says she keeps a very watchful eye on her surroundings as she babysits her grandchildren. national day out is designed to bring the community and police.

it's this type of relationship that helped this woman to get out of gangs. >> it helped me become beyond that. >> reporter: tonight's event drew a good turn out, people say it takes work to keep a community safe but even a small city such as concord is not immune to crime. reporting live, in concord, amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. richmond police are asking for the public's help to find a man suspected of shooting and critically injuring to people. 18-year-old robinson went to a house last thursday and rang the doorbell then shot a teenage boy and a man in his 20s when the door was answered. he is considered armed and dangerous. new information about a young girl who was attacked in a bathroom at a large apartment complex in san leandro. ktvu's allie rasmus shows us a

sketch of the suspect and police say he may actually live in that complex. >> i will keep an eye out. >> reporter: but this face did not ring a bell to the people who live here. the assault of a young girl at an apartment complex has neighbors upset and desperate for information. they say having an idea of what the perpetrator may look like is helpful. he's described as an african american man with tattoos on his arm. >> if i will see anyone familiar i will definitely call authorities. >> reporter: the pool as the complex was empty. but on the weekend it's a big draw. this is where the girl had been playing. when at 4:00 she went into the clubhouse bathroom. she told police that a man came in and sexually assaulted her. >> you have to have a key to get in there. it makes me think it's someone who lives here. how do you get in there if you need a key. it's kind of scary. >> reporter: it's a question

police detectives are trying to answer too. >> one possibility is they were a visitor and borrowed someone's key, or they followed another resident in or they're posing as a resident too. >> reporter: there's also the possibility that the suspect lives here. this apartment complex has hundreds of units. investigators hope this sketch will jog someone's memories. >> there's somebody out there that saw him or knows where he is, we're asking them to call us. >> reporter: san leandro police say the apartment management had been cooperating with them in this investigation. allie rasmus. it is now 24 hours into the seize fire in gaza and it appears to be holding. the halt in the fighting is giving the 1.8 million residents of gaza a chance to go to street markets and get supplies. others have been surveying the damage after a month of fighting between hamas and

israeli security forces. during the 72 hour seize fire, palestinian and israeli respectives are to meet in egypt for talks on making the truce last. the second american patient with ebola is now under going treatment in a hospital in atlanta after arriving earlier today from liberia. missionary nurse nancy writebol was wheeled into emory university in a stretcher. the head of their christian charity relayed a message from writebol's husband who is still in liberia. >> a week ago he said we were thinking about a possible funeral arrangements. yet we kept our faith, now we have a real reason to be hopeful. >> meantime the possible ebola patient in new york's city

sanai hospital appears to be in good spirits. the board is exploring the idea of housing immigrant children from central america with local host familyless. tentative plans included the search for 50 families. >> this is indeed a humanitarian crisis unfortunately it's also a manufactured crisis but the politicians here and abroad. >> these are 12, 16, eight and 9-year-olds literally children who have traveled thousands of miles without anyone they know to get here to seek refuge in our count trip. >> the supervisors voted 4-1. at that same meeting the board voted to extend the temporary moratorium. under current zoning regulations, the moratorium prevents that.

a nationwide alert has been issued for a suspect who shot and killed a young woman and who investigators believe could be holding another woman hostage. the turn of events is really shaking people who live in this tight nit community of hollister. >> reporter: hollister has a hard harley exterior with a nice friendly feel. if there's any where that everyone knows your name, hollister is. today one name brings great sadness. it's ariana sendejas a girl who once brought joy. >> she was just a very nice person. >> reporter: the san benito graduate was a clerk at k mart, with dreams of serving her country one day.

she was killed, it happened in an unassuming intersection that now stands out with a memorial and flowers. >> it is not hollister being like that. >> reporter: an unintented target, an innocent victim. >> i think what happened the other day is terrible. i feel so sorry for the family. i don't know how to express my sorrow for them. it's not only me but everyone in the community. >> reporter: police put out a search for the suspect, jose barrajas and florez. she may be a second victim held against her will. florez' mother sobbed saying her daughter had recently ended an abusive relationship with the suspect. >> i love you honey. please be strong. we're waiting for your return. i know god will bring you back. >> reporter: while one family

waits for a return, another family knows their daughter will not return. and a police chief makes it his mission to bring a suspect home. >> there's no place that i won't go or we won't go to find this person to get him into custody so we can bring a little bit of justice and a little bit of closure for this to the family. >> reporter: police say many of the tips about sightings have come in too far after the fact. they want to call right away but don't approach the suspect as he's considered armed and dangerous. noelle walker. water officials say the water main break that spilled hundreds of gallons was caused by corrosion and structural problems. the department of water and power says outdated welding also contributed to the break which happened a week ago. despite being nearly 100 years old the pipe was not scheduled for replacement and there were no signs that anything was wrong before the break happened. today owners of hundredsover

there's a new twist in the case of a missing captain who's boat ran aground yesterday off san francisco. we learn there's an outstanding warrant for his arrest. authorities issued a $75,000 arrest warrant for timothy linbrand after he violated probation by failing to appear in court. we also found his records include time served in state from prison. lybrand is from santa cruz. he called for help before his ship ran aground in about 10 feet of water and radioed he was going to swim ashore. he's been missing ever since. investigators are looking into a vandalism at a grocery store. it happened early sunday july 27th. the fbi says a posting on a website claims the grocery was targeted by an animal rights

activist because it sells meat. the statement says it is a continuation of actions at a meat market and a burger king in oakland last year. new at 10:00, a world famous celebrity couple wrapping up a performance in san francisco for one of its final shows in north america. >> ktvu's healther holmes live at at&t park where friends of beyonce and jay z traveled hundreds of miles to catch the concert. >> reporter: gasia and frank, let me tell you this has been one very, very loud concert. in fact, the music so loud it was rattling the windows of our live van and across the street. this couple definitely putting on a show tonight and that's exactly what two young women from reno we met they wanted to see. they each paid $400 for a ticket to see this power house couple. music's most powerful couple opened the first of two back to back shows in san francisco.
