in danger. good evening. >> that fire is burning in mendocino county, and three firefighters are recovering from burns received when the fire turned unpredictable last night. after being treated at two hospitals, they were released and taken directly to cal fire head quarters. you have spoken with the chiefs >> reporter: yes. we have learned the injured were part of a strike team sent by cal fire to fight the wildfires up north last saturday. yesterday they were moved to mendocino and just received their assignment when they ran into trouble. a desperate fight to halt the spread of this fire. they arrived here today and received their assignment and one half

hour after arriving the fire's path turned, injuring a total of eight >> they are all veteran firefighters, two male and two females >> reporter: because the drought turned the forest into virtual tinder, the fire's behavior was not predictable >> we have to be cautious as professionals and when the professionals get caught it's cause for alarm >> it's under investigation so details are vague. we know that the burn injuries were bad enough to send them to the medical centers, one of only two burn centers in northern california >> you don't thing anything will happen to you or anybody you work with >> reporter: given the extreme conditions this year he's worried they may see more

an accident involving two big rigs closed the road that injured one person and caused a chemical spill. it happened around 4:30 this morning. one of the big rig drivers was dropped, injuring his leg. the the county health department was notified of that chemical spill and all lanes were closed for about 90 minutes while the chemicals were cleaned up. chp is investigating the cause of that collision investigators are looking into a very bizarre and tragic accident last night on lakeville highway. a man was killed and others injured when a pizza oven towed by a car broke loose and injured individuals drivers in the east bay can

they are ready to roll out a new area code soon. they can expect to see the new numbers starting in february of next year, the 628 area code given to all new customers. existing customers won't have to change their area codes but you will be required to enter that area code when you make a call and if you don't after february 21st, you will have to hang up and dial again hundreds of people rallied in richmond today calling for a transition from a fossil fuel-base economy to one centered on clean energy. today's march started at the rail yard in richmond where crude ale is transferred from rail car trucks and taken to refineries. a conference looked at way to create a just transition from polluting

restrictions will begin soon. the levels of the lake are dropping, and one year ago the lake was at 416 feet. now, it's at 402 feet. boaters have to contend with sand and rocks and other hazards and rangers say when the water level hits 400 feet they intend to impose a 5 mph speed limb most of the hawaiian islands are getting a break from strong winds and heavy rains but the islands are gearing up for another big storm. julio might not bring any damage at all. we have the latest >> reporter: authorities say they prepared for the worst with tropical storm is iselle and they feel like they dodged a bullet. now attention goes to hurricane julio, a category 2 storm and it's expected to weaken and actually miss the islands to the northeast. they're not expecting a direct hit but as a precaution, authorities have closed a tourist area at pearl harbor for the weekend.

nine jonestown victims were discovered in an abandoned funeral home. among of them was 28-year-old perkins, dying in 1978, along with more than 900 men, women and children during a suicide murder in jonestown. on thursday delaware officials contacted this individual two people are returned arrest after allegedly leading authorities on a chase in a pony video. sheriff deputies noticed a cart out plates, and after the driver refused to stop, deputies put down a spike strip. when the driver swerved to avoid it, it slammed into a deputy's cruiser and two other vehicles. one had a warrant out for his arrest and it turns out the car had been reported too many from

>> the weather, it cooled off a bit, low clouds, and the cooling trend will continue through sunday. a update on hawaii, the two hurricanes approaching, iselle, just a tropical depression, and julio, sustaining winds of 100 mph, but this will weaken and move to the north of the islands. no warning or watches in place for the hawaiian islands because it's heading up to the north. in the bay area we have low clouds and fog and increasing coverage out there and that cooled off the numbers today. temperatures were down five to ten degrees from yesterday's readings. san francisco topped out at 68 degrees. livermore, 81 degrees. on the satellite, we saw the fog banked up near the coastline and it will increase in coverage and depth over the next six to 12 hours. with that we are expecting more low clouds the first thing sunday morning. the current temperatures, san francisco, 57,

30 teams from bay area law enforcement competed today in the second annual canine competition. the competition featured searches for suspects, along with agility work. yesterday the dogs looked for drugs. once they completed their work the dogs were rewarded with their favorite toy and, for some, a scratch on the head let's talk about the pga championship and mcilroy >> the final major of the year, and mcilroy is doing his best to establish himself as the number one player in the year. he's threatening to make it two straight pages with a lead in
