6 people were injured, 1 is in grave condition right now. ktvu care care. we're live this morning. welcome to mornings on 2 i'm tori campbell. >> and i'm dave clark. i got to ask you, you're concerned of thunder and lightning in our area? >> it's mainly north and east of us. impressive lows. this has increased the fog for us, most of it continues to favor the sierra nevada. it looks like pretty active patterns, but most of that is driving upward. there will be a definite increase in that, the flow around that low is bringing in enough instability so we do have a fire weather watch, delta up to lake county as well, but i

think this is marginal for us. 50s on your temps for most, a lot more 50s, overall, this is controlling our lows. it looks like another prime time day, fog, sun, maybe a few clouds to the east. >> we have a problem approaching the dunbar bridge, there's a big crash involving two trucks and two other vehicles and the commute is slowing down. there's an accident that's blocking at least two lanes, injuries reported and your drive out of newark became just a lot slower. you may want to think about the san mateo bridge and the traffic here is looking good. that may change as people are going to hear about the crash.

right now if you go. it's about a 15 minute drive. bay bridge, about the same thing, a 20 minute to 30 minute drive. nothing unusual here, it's much easier if you're using the car pool lane. oakland police are investigating a serious accident that sent a pedestrian to the hospital. tara moriarty joins us live where the crash happened. >> reporter: the road way just opened before 6:30. we know the accident investigation team was out here all night. they are trying to figure how this accident unfolded. around 10:30 last night a black bmw was headed westbound on international boulevard and a white pickup was headed southbound on 25th. the two crashed. they're not sure who ran the red

light but they're hoping that surveillance from a transit bus will provide clues. a pedestrian was struck, he is in critical condition. he is not expected to survive. 5 other people were taken to the hospital but received minor injuries. we'll keep you posted on that. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu news. this has been cleaned up several times only to have the people move back into it. now the city of san jose is taking a different approach. joining us live from san jose to tell us what this plan is. good morning jeanine. >> good morning. >> reporter: planning up a gate in this dirt lot where the

homeless park their cars to block access to the encampment. the city handed out flyers saying they're going to clean up an area bethe encampment. city officials also want to block them from coming in and out of the jungle so they're going to put up a gate and boulders. over the weekend, the homeless and the ministry held a protest to voice their concerns. >> by putting a fence around here, they're not making it against the law but making it impossible for people to come here and feed homeless people. >> reporter: the city plans to hold a routine clean up in a few areas. on the other side of the jungle, the city anticipates the clean up will impact 10 illegal campers, but thae afraid that it will effect many more people. they need to get rid of their

belongings by 7:00 a.m.. i was told that the clean up may happen today but they do have all week. they're going to look at their schedule to see when they can come back out here. i asked why are you not doing the massive clean ups the city has done in the past, they said that the city received funding last year and they want to focus on rapid rehousing and finding permanent sliegss to end homeless necessary. reporting live in san jose, jean jean, dell la vega. there's a lot of dry brush around that camp. people living there need to be real careful when they cook. they're worried about getting everybody out of the jungle

safely. 7:06, the woman nicknamed the serial stowaway is expected to go to court today. marilyn hartman was arrested and accused of violated the probation handed down to her. she was asked to stay away from the airport without a proper boarding pass. she has been arrested several times for trying to sneak on the planes. tune in to channel 2 news at 5:00 this evening for what happens in the courtroom today. some had a difficult summer because of the shortage of bus drivers. golden gate transit said that the combination of those retiring, extended leaves, sick days, have lead to just some bus runs being cancelled.

the agency has cut some services at the end of last month. they're working on hiring new bus drivers. 7:07 a container ship is on its way trying to help a sailboat caught in hurricane julio. they sent a message yesterday after the boat became disabled. the coast guard says the boat's life raft blew away and it was taking on water more than their pump can handle. they dropped a new life raft near the sailboat. it's not sure when the container ship would arrive. >> hurricane julio miss the hawaiian islands after little damage was caused. hurricane iselle brought a lot

beauty shop, and a dollar store. a quick trip store was basically destroyed by vandals. about 20 police cruisers were damaged. several gunshots were heard but no one reported being shot. this comes after michael brown was shot multiple times. police say that brown assaulted the officer and would you describe caught after trying to take the officer's brown. he appears to be surrounding when he was shot. the chief of police said he's calling in the state highway patrol to help with this situation and we're learning that the attorney that represented the family of trayvon martin is now representing the family of michael brown. the time is 7:14, the southern california woman that was punched in the head said that she believed he was trying to beat her to death. this is a cell phone video of

that incident on the los angeles freeway. marlene is suing saying he used excessive force, assault, and battery. the chp said that she endangered herself by walking on the freeway and the chp officer was trying to restrain her. she was walking to get to a place where homeless people sleep. the city of san francisco has a new plan to reduce the number of empty store fronts. a new city law requires owners of any store fronts left vacant have to pay a fee. and they also have to register with the city. merchants have complained that those empty store fronts attract crime, graffiti and can hurt nearby businesses.

a the chairman of the east oakland beautify occasion council are dominating graffiti tags -- documenting graffiti tags. removing graffiti cost the city more than $1 million a year. a group of 12 artists around the world reveal add mural to express solidarity with palestinians. the artists were chosen from many different backgrounds, african-american, latino, native american, jewish americans and palestinians. they as the political issues faced by palestinians. >> here in oakland, we always stood up for what we thought is

and we're not surprised if that happens again today. so the low clouds for us. the fog will retreat. mostly sunny. i'll mention a few afternoon clouds but i think they're going to be out of the bay area. we're just not right for this to move in. 50s and 60s on the temps. healdsburg, 55. very cool from bismarck to denver. all the locations to the southeast. people are saying it's been nice, it's been unusual. bell well, we have been unusual hot and humid but that fog takes us back to a normal pattern. the tropical clouds continue to rotate around. there will be tropical storms near us but not over us. i think it's a push here, but thunderstorms are possible to east, a little breeze for some once that fog bank burns off.

24 adults and 4 children were stuck on the ride for 5 hours yesterday. the ride turns people upside down four times, fortunately it stopped with peoples right side up. park officials are still investigating why the roller coaster stopped near the top of the ride. >> wow. the mare county sheriff department want to return more than 100 stolen bike to their real owners. they put the bikes on display so those who had bikes stolen could come to see if any of them belong to them. in order to claim the bike, the owners have to prove their ownership.

. >> luckily we still had our information. i thought we through it away. >> unfortunately doug's bike was not there. according to out of the 37 people that showed up, only 2 found their match. bike owners should always write down your bike's serial number and then register it with the county and the state. an 18-year-old is facing burglary charges in newark this morning. he's accused of stealing nearly $4,000 worth of equipment. this happened on highway 84. police say officers arrived at the empty school and found max in a classroom rummaging through a teacher's desk. they recovered stolen items like two computers and a laptop. he admits to the break in.

the university of california stepping up its out of state recruiting. they're trying to offset revenue loss in budget cuts. many are criticizing the strategy, but the uc system are saying that students who live in california will benefit from the diversity. non-resident a captains will make up 1/5 of all freshman for fall 2014. now a group called sunday friends, they organized the event that provided school supplies to low income students. the community and local businesses pitched in to make sure students of all ages will get a good start to the new school year. there's a similar event happening in san francisco next

substation to let us know how people that live in the bay view said they're fed up with all the crime. >> reporter: they certainly are. on top of the shooting that happened yesterday, there was a shooting in the same area last month. this morning, san francisco police are asking for the public's help. police investigated the bay view's latest shooting they were able to pinpoint this location from the spotter technology. just around 5:15 when it happened there were two male victims on dirt bikes, the victims who have yet to identified were taken to a nearby hospital who later died from their injuries. they were riding dirt bikes when they encountered gunfire when they crashed. at least one of those victims was shot.

>> this goes in cycles. it's been recently, it's been reported we had a lot of shootings in the neighborhood at large. like i said, it's something distressing. >> it's scary and i have grandchildren. it's very scary. >> now the incident is being investigated by san francisco pd homicide unit. this violent accident is one of the receipt shootings. four other men were shot in the same area of san francisco last month. there's a city wide effort to reduce gun violence in the streets. they will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. so far no arrests have been made. brian flores, ktvu, channel 2 news. now an investigation in vallejo. this started about 7:00 last night in an abandoned building.

the fire department has used the building for training. half the building was already in flames the fire was under control by 9:00 last night. no injuries were reported. vallejo officials say that though it's vacant for years, it's widely known to be used by the homeless. you better watch out for lightning. there's lightning warnings for parts of the bay area tonight and tomorrow. it can cause lightning strikes like that one. if you're planning outdoor activities, you are advised to take precautions. this increases the risks for lightning sparked wild fires too. meanwhile, firefighters in mendocino county are battling a

fire. the fire officials say today's winds could make the live complex fire even worst. this started on july 30th. right now it's only 35% contained. 58 structure are threatened. evacuation orders are placed. it's 7:34 this morning, san jose police continue their investigation to a grim discovery inside a motel room. housekeeper found the decomposed bodies of two women at the easy 8 motel on north 1st street near interstate 880. they believe the bodies have been there for at least one day. at this point they say there's no evidence of any foul play. 3 out of 4 vallejo firefighters that were injured when their truck rolled over are now recovering at home. investigators say that the truck rolled twice before slamming

into a suv. fire officials say the truck was headed to a house fire. three other people were injury in a crash. one firefighter is still in the hospital. it's not clear what caused this accident but in the after math of the fire truck rolling over, they're reminding people to be alert for emergency vehicles on the road. you are to slow down when you hear sirens and see emergency lights. drivers are required to yield the right of way and pull over to the right happened lane. one officer we spoke to said he has seen many close calls. >> i think some people just forget what they're required to do. >> california law also requires drivers to move over one lane or slow down to a safe speed if an

emergency responder is stopped on the highway. >> the time is 7:36, the cleaning up continues in san francisco's golden gate park after the outside lands festival wrapped up last night. so you can tell us what things look like right now alex. >> good morning, the show is over and this morning workers are busy out here in golden gate park, they're taking down the tents, they're getting ready to disassemble all the music stages. concert goers were out here, hundreds of thousands of them were out here and they left behind a lot of trash. crews have been busy over night cleaning up the park. outside lands wrapped up last night and people spilled out near the streets and the streets were clogged with cars. this three day festival usually draws complaints from neighbors

and there were more than 200,000 people that turned out this year. san francisco police say really the biggest issue is that a lot of people that show up with counter feat tickets. scalpers were taken into custody. there was surveillance cameras placed throughout the park and extra safes on patrol and one neighbor we talked to noticed the difference near his house. >> i don't know if it's more enforcement or the crowds are more educated as far as protocol, and ethics and whatnot, uh be it just seems a little bit cleaner -- i don't know, it just seems a little cleaner this year. >> they handed out a lot of tickets for littering, public

urination, and those trying to hop the fences. organizers this year ordered more í to í toe trucks to come in that clear cars that are parked in people's drive ways. we're live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. a court hearing for a man said to have a bomb in san francisco. he was arrested in june after fbi agents say the bomb making materials were found in his apartment several days earlier. they recovered a jar fill with ball bearings and a green explosive powder. a security guard impersonating a police officer to pray on immigrant men to have sex.

court documents say that he and another man dressed as police officers took two men from a bar in the mission district. the victims were allegedly driven to his home and handcuffed with their heads covered with cloth bags. david stevenson will be at that court hearing today. he will have more on this case on our 5:00 newscast. a 4th pit bull has died after being left outside a hot car. a passer by saw those dogs and called the authorities. they broke in trying to save them. 3 of them were already dead but a 4th was rushed to a vet where he was euthanized over the weekend. a pedestrian injured, coming up at 8:00, how a transit bus

washington, kaila campbell. ktvu, channel 2 news. let's see if everybody is behaving. sal, how is everybody doing? >> everybody is doing okay on san jose. it was a little touch and go which was normal. let's check with 101. things have improved a little bit. we have seen some commutes that have all of a sudden become nice and light. that's what we like. looking at the toll plaza, it hasn't happened yet, 880 is slow, and this is definitely the busiest commute. i want to show you livermore. it has improved quite a bit. we started off with a big delay and now t only slow during parts of the livermore here. your drive time is about 29 minutes from grant line road to the 680 interchange. now let's go to steve. thank you, a lot of low

it's 8 minutes before 8:00, now the racetrack death of the 20-year-old driver that was hit by nascar champion tony stewart at a race in new york. amateur video shows his car hitting a wall after being cut off by stewart's car. he exits his car and you can was along the track. he appears to be angry. that's when stewart's car comes close to ward and hits him. >> my thoughts and prayer are with the ward's family. it's a tough situation. >> stewart released the following state, there's not words to describe the sadness that i feel. my thoughts are with the family

and friends that are affected by this tragedy. serious injuries after slamming into a wall head on at the all men speedway on saturday. firefighters used the jaws of life to get her out of the wreckage. her name has not been released. officials say let's keep her in our thoughts, prayers afsh our hearts. the ncaa will appeal last night's hearing that allow college athletes to be paid. the judge said that college football and basketball players should be able to make money when their names and images should be used for profit. this will be heard in san francisco, but experts predict this case may go to the u.s. supreme court. school officials are preparing for the rise of immigrant students when the

school year rises. the school districts wants immigrant children from central america to know they're welcome to the city's public schools. they expect to hire several new teachers to meet the needs of these new students and the school board will vote on a resolution to dedicate more resources for immigrant children. the fight to move the oakland a's to san jose heads to court this week. they're challenging major league baseball's ruling saying the san francisco giants have territory y'all right to the south bay. they will go before a federal appeals court, the a's just sign add 10 year lease extension at the colosseum in oakland but there's a clause that would allow the team to relocate if the court sides in san jose's

news out of oakland. investigation on a serious accident that sent a pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries. tara moriarty is live where the crash happened. good morning. >> reporter: officers say that they believe this crash was caused by someone that ran a red light. they're looking for an ac truck that was in the area when the crash happenedful around 10:30. a bmw and a pickup truck crashed in the middle of the intersection and a pedestrian was struck by the truck. he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and we understand that his condition is now grave. 5 of the people, were taken to the hospital but they received minor injuries. international boulevard was

fresno. they skidded across the road and hit a fence. the pilot and his two daughters were on board. no one was hurt. the pilot is not sure what happened and just that the plane lost power and came up short of the run way. they're on the mission to return more than 100 stolen bike to their rightful owners. they found the bikes on june 24th at a home in kent feel. deputies put them on display so those who had buyings stolen could see if any of the buyings are there. in order to recover the bikes, owners must have proof of ownership. kate and doug went to see if doug's stolen bike was among the bikes on display. >> luckily we still had our information. i was afraid that i thrown it away after 5 years. >> unfortunately doug's bike was not there but he's still hoping

they were able to pinpoint the incident with the spot viewer technology. there were two male victims that were on dirt bikes but on the ground with serious injuries. police say the victims who have yet to be identified were taken to a nearby hospital where they later died from their injuries. the two were riding dirt bikes in the neighborhood when they encountered gunfire. at least one of those victims was shot. >> this goes in cycles, you know, but it's been recently, it's been reported we have had a lot of shootings in the neighborhood. it's something very distressing. >> it's scary and i have grandchildren you know. so it's very scary. >> reporter: now the incident is being investigated by the san francisco's homicide unit. it's just in the series of hundreds of deadly shootings. four other men were shot in the

there's no evidence of foul play. an incident in vallejo after a fire broke out in mare island. this happened at an abandon building. it's an old military bar rack that the fire debt used for training. firefighters got there last night, half that building was already in flames. it was brought under control by 9:00 last night. though the barracks have been vacant for 15 years, it was widely known to be used by the homeless. 3 out of 4 vallejo firefighters are now recovering at home. the accident happened on saturday on sonoma boulevard in have hey . the truck rolled over twice before slamming into an suv. fire officials say the truck was headed to a house fire, 3 other people were injury in the
