we're live in marin county at the home of robin williams, where neighbors are still reeling after news of his death. we will share with you reaction from fans and family. robin williams was a world- famous entertainer who made the bay area his home. how ktvu played a role in one of his most famous movies. >> reporter: we're live in san jose, where a new-born is safe after an attempted abduction at a local hospital. how hospital officials were able to catch the man. a vote in san francisco on mandatory water rationing. find out who would be directly affected. "mornings on 2" begins right now. my name is dr. phil. i'll be your surgeon. oh. there you are. >> this morning we're remembering one of the bay area's favorite sons.
7:02 am
authorities say robin williams took his own life at his home in marin yesterday. williams was a comic genius and an academy-award winning actor. we have live team coverage across the bay area at both his name in marin county fire tiburon on the left and at a house in san francisco used in the movie "mrs. doubtfire," both places where fans are visiting to pay respects for the man who made them laugh so much. coming up, tara moriarty will tell us what robin williams's family and neighbors are saying as she awaiting a news conference by the marin county sheriff's department. that's scheduled for later this morning. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. we're also talking about your weather and traffic. steve, a little cooler this morning. >> absolutely. sure looks like this. one system moving in. although along the coast, they are getting a southerly breeze. it might field on the mild side. but for inland areas and the north bay it will be a cooler pattern as one system ejects.
7:03 am
that was the low from yesterday. the tropical clouds are flying out. but still thunderstorm potential up in the mountains or northern california but another system digging in equals a cooler pattern. maybe local drizzle. but 60 to start in san jose under mostly clear skies there. 70 to 78. temperatures along the coast and bay will be near average. inland they will be below. 50s and 60s. 61 in half moon bay. 61 walnut creek. 60 in santa rosa. 60 in san jose. everyone is in the same ballpark. the cooler air aloft helped by the low being pushed inland is gonna make an impact for the surface temperatures. 54 la honda. delta breeze, not too shabby. 14 to gusts to 24. westerly breeze concord, westerly breeze oakland. it's the south wind on the coast from this system, actually the front coming in. it's weak. it will push in a few high clouds to the north. fog, sun, cooler from sonoma
7:04 am
county northward. 70s, very low 80s. 60s and 70s coast and bay. here's sal. right now we're doing well in some area, not so well in areas. the toll plaza is very crowded. about a 30-minute drive into san francisco, with no major problems on the bridge itself. you will see some waiting at the toll plaza where most of the waiting will go on. on interstate 880, the traffic here looks pretty good at the coliseum. if you are trying to catch a flight at oakland airport, southbound 80 looks good. 580 westbound slowing coming into the valley here from the tracy triangle and the altamont pass. it does get better after you get out of livermore. if you are getting on the freeway in dublin and pleasanton, it's not that bad on the way to castro valley. back to the desk. >> all right, thank you, sal. it's a rather somber morning for us at ktvu and i think for many, many people. people are remembering and reacting to the news that actor and comedian robin williams has
7:05 am
died. he was just 63 years ode and died way too soon. >> doesn't seem real. the news came late afternoon, it was stunning, to say the least. the marin county sheriff's office announcing that robin williams had committed suicide. he had the personality, as you know, bigger than life. since getting his big break in mork and mindy, he became a star and had millions of fans. despite his hollywood fame, he called the bay area home. >> during his career he acted and provided the voice for characters in at least 73 movies. many people say he was most brilliant on stage as a standup comic. even after making it big, he would drop in for a surprise performance at comedy clubs in the bay area. >> we have team coverage in marin county and also in san francisco. we're gonna start with tara moriarty. she's outside of the tiburon home of robin williams. that's where he was found unconscious by sheriff's deputies and i know the memorial is growing out there.
7:06 am
>> reporter: yeah, there is a small pile of flowers, candles and cards in front of robin williams's gate. we haven't seen a lot of foot traffic here this morning. that's because this is a pretty private area. we imagine fans will be leaving condolences at the home. you can see this street is filled with media from all over the united states. it's a very sad time when you think of how much joy robin williams brought to people worldwide. he was last seen alive at 10:00 sunday night at his home near tiburon. sheriff's deputies found him monday morning unconscious and unbreathing after a 911 call. he was pronounced dead around noon. the coroner's office division suspects his death to be a suicide due to asphyxia. and sources say he hung himself. over the years, he battled substance abuse. his agents said he suffered from depression. it's a picture of a man difficult to take in, especially neighbors who saw him routinely. >> he was such a sweet man and such a talent.
7:07 am
we loved him as an actor but as a person, he was such a great neighbor. he looked like he was happy. he was content. you know, we didn't see the other side of him that might have been depressed. >> reporter: williams was raised in michigan but moved to woodacre in marin when a taker. he went to redwood high and the college of marin. he rose from small comedy clubs in san francisco to become a worldwide sensation in film and television. his last post online was a message to daughter nelda in honor-birthday and overnight -- in honor of her birthday and overnight she said, you alone will have the stars in no one has them. in one of the stars i shall be living. one of them i that -- i shall be

living. the sheriff's office released more information about his death because of his public status. it will hold a press conference at 11:00 this morning. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. robin williams used his fame 0 help the causes he really believed in. that included hollywood fund- raisers at glide memorial church. but cecil williams says one time the church was able to turn the tables on williams. the church choir surprised robin by singing just for him. >> he was just crying. he cried. he was so touched because we sang to him. >> see sill williams called -- cecil companies called him an original. he also entertained active military troops.
7:09 am
he traveled to afghanistan, iraq and qat and performed in shows for american soldiers in war zones. the uso posted a message saying he will always be part of our uso family and will be sorely missed. he appeared a number of times on ktvu "mornings on 2." every time his appearance was both unpredictable and delightful. coming up at 7:15, we'll show you one of the many memorable moments as he ad-libbed his own stories with our own ross mcgowan. you will find a photo gallery at ktvu.com. a man who is recovering in the hospital after being shot yesterday in san leandro outside of a mall. police say the shots were fired after two men argued at a shoe store at bayfair mall and then the fight spilled into the parking lot. the man was shot in the leg. he was pushed to the hospital. he is expected to survive.
