afternoon. ktvu's david stevenson is in san francisco where friends and family joined together as he was taken off of life support. david? >> reporter: frank, bryan higgins was taken off life support and died this afternoon as hundreds of strangers and friends attended a vigil in his honor at this san francisco park. the investigation focuses on whether they can find the suspect in the case. they have surveillance video and the investigation has gone from attempted murder to homicide. the vinylal was organize -- the vigil was organized and drew 200 people. >> i didn't know the young man but i just felt it was important to come here and show our unity. >> reporter: unity after 31- year-old bryan higgins was found badly beaten sunday morning. he was taken off life support this afternoon by his family who thanked friends and strangers for their support. >> very, very, very touching to

know. he touched so many people. it is just sad. >> reporter: pictures show the scene where bryan higgins was found sunday morning. >> we do not know what the motive was. >> reporter: police say it is not clear whether this was a hate crime. >> we be a history in the castro of lgbt people being targeted. >> i feel like they dropped the ball. >> reporter: some friends say police have been slow to share details about the investigation. bryan higgins' sister pleaded for witnesses to come forward. >> if anybody knows anything come forward and say something. let it be known. >> reporter: police say surveillance video indicates the suspect is a white male in his 20s to 30s. investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the crime to call the police

department. reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. new at 6:00 p.m. a massage parlor expected of being a brothel and now three people are under arrest. ktvu's christien kafton is live where police just made those arrests. >> reporter: the spot here is one of two pause that were bust -- spas that were busted. you can see this spa is open for business. >> reporter: we went inside the spa earlier today. >> they were saying there was sex for money inside of the spa here. >> the woman inside said she didn't speak english and didn't know anything about the arrest. police say july 22 a detective went undercover, was solicited

for production. then august 8 an officer went to the spa, he too was solicited. officers arrested two. police say a search of the home turned up proof she owned both businesses. >> sometimes i see the girls walking here. >> reporter: neighbors called in complaints saying they suspected the businesses were fronts for prostitution. he worked here for three years and says customers for the spa would park on their car lot blocking access for car buyers. >> one day i have to pull out a customer after we close, i had to ask these people to come

out. >> reporter: police say as a result of their investigation they are looking at both business licenses and permits. christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. there are signs that the jury may be close to announce its decision in a teacher accused of molesting students. today attorneys in the case were brought back to court after the jury asked for devicance and in-- guidance and instructions. >> go home, think about it. see if there is any new type of read backs that might help you. anything that we can give you that can help you to reach a verdict. >> martin is facing 116 counts for molesting 14 students. his attorney says he was told the jury reached a decision on the charges related to three of

the students. but the jury is still undecided on the charges related to the other 11 students. a bay area pastor made a court appearance today on child molestation charges. he was arrested yesterday. he has ties to another church in the city and concord. he didn't enter a plea. his arraignment was postponed till august 19. he is held on $300,000 bail. cisco will lay off 6,000 employees. that is 8% of its worth force. -- work force. cisco says sales are dropping. oakland city leaders are meeting poised to seal a $1 billion garbage contact with a new company but he will vote no

on that deal. he says he is voting against the contract with california waste solutions. he is concerned they might not be able to handle the job. waste management is making a attempt to keep the contract. either way residents can expect an increase in rates 20% when the current contract with waste management runs out in june. a music legend is getting ready to play at candlestick park. ktvu's rob roth is there now live with the final touches. rob? >> reporter: the estimated crowd expected here at the former home of the san francisco 49ers is 49,000. all saying good-bye to candlestick park. >> we got our tickets the day they went on sale. >> reporter: among the 49,000 expected tomorrow is carolyn

group is weighing in. governor jerry brown and law makers are trying to finalize a water bond for new water products. the money would go to increasing water storage by creating new reservoirs, raising the dam and building a new dam in the river system. they are expensive projects that won't benefit all of california. >> written for a few special interest projects that won't solve the problem now and likely not in the future. >> the water bond would replace a bond that is already on the ballot. many leaders worry they will reject the larger price tag. police are asking help for identifying two people who broke into a home. these two people used the

stolen credit card twice at a walmart in sacramento on august 3. the sheriff's office says the vints are persons of interest in the -- individuals are persons of interest in the case. he disclosed details about robin williams' suicide yesterday and some people thought he went too far. today he said he was compelled to release the information under the california records act and will likely have to release the 911 911 call to report what happened. robin williams' daughter is taking a social media break after online taunting in connection with her father's death. two people posted fake autopsy photos on twitter. she wrote i am shaking.

inconsistent with a fall and that prompted police to arrest him. that serial stow away caught at los angeles international airport after sneaking on to a flight in san jose will spend six months in jail. today a judge in los angeles sentenced marilyn hartman to 177 days in jail for violating probation. marilyn hartman is from the bay area and says she homeless. she pleaded no contest to stowing away on the southwest mineta international airport. the next day she was taken into custody again after she show said up at the airport even though the judge ordered her to stay away. security concerns are the mineta international airport. today a committee voted to schedule hearing on what is being done to improve security after two breaches this year. in april a 16-year-old climbed

over a security fence, then flew to hawaii in the wheel well of a jet. the airport's directedder said she will provide details on the -- director said she will provide details on the breaches and spell out the roles employees play.
