levi stadium put to the test. from the fan excitement to the traffic we look at the big debut of the shiny new stadium. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> i'm ken wayne. this is a sight 49er fans have waited years to see. fans packing its brand new stadium for football. today wasn't just the first game in the new stadium it was the first real test of getting all those niners fans to the game and back home without all the delays experienced in previous events. noel walker was with the

thousands of fans. she's live in santa clara to tell us how it between. >>reporter: it went pretty smoothly. getting 68,000 fans to one place is no easy fate. the first test seemed to go smoothly with no delays. game day rituals started early. >> 9:00 a.m. dude. >> wanted to get a good spot and meet our fellow tailgaters for the season. >>reporter: previous trial runs at least vie stadium were traffic nightmares. >> had some friends that went to the soccer game and there were some horror stories about getting out. >>reporter: getting there on the freeways was a relative breeze. police kept fans from parking on neighborhood streets. and vta light rail seemed to be on the right track. >> they did a fantastic job this morning and they are doing a great job now. thank you so much.

>>reporter: but the 49ers didn't seem to have it going on. the game was a blowout and fans started leaving before halftime. >> it's really hot in the seats we're at. >> wouldn't have about hot in candlestick. >> definitely not. we were under the overhang. so right now we were sweating bullets up there. >>reporter: getting home was no sweat. >> things are going a lot smoother today. >>reporter: vta added more trains. >> it's quick and it was just easy. we loved it. >> hop on a bus and get there right away. >>reporter: more express bus routes. >> nonstop. >> we're hoping that everything we've planned is going to help people get to where they need to be in a reasonable amount of time. >>reporter: it helps that fans didn't flood the platform and parking lots all at once. >> the traffic, got to work

tomorrow. >>reporter: traffic cam ross shows people leaving the game with relative ease. those who did stay until the bitter end say levi stadium is a whole new ball game. >> it's louder, especially regular season game i think it's going to be really loud. it's going to be a good season, i hope. >>reporter: because this was a preseason game it was a blowout and the starters were pulled from the game early, people prohibit left a little earlier than they ordinarily would have. so the first real test is going to be that first regular season game. reporting live at least vie stadium noel walker ktvu channel 2 news. the 9ers new home has a lot of high tech features including a stadium app for fans itself may need some upgrades. we're told the media portion of that app allows you to watch the game on your smartphone or tablet work great, but there were complaints of glitches when it came to ordering food to be delivered to your seat from that app. some fans said after placing the order on their mobile

bumper and dark rims. the crash killed a 2-year-old girl on mission street between 4th and 5th. today the family came together to ask that driver to come forward. >>reporter: just in the last hour a relative was out here putting up these informational fliers. meanwhile, as you mentioned earlier this afternoon a few dozen family and friends gathered for a vigil putting up pink balloons and remembering a little girl taken too soon. >> justice for "mymy". >>reporter: the anguish still painfully raw. >> way did you see? >> this is the twin brother i know he's going to be missing. >>reporter: michael gregory struggled to share memories of his two-year-old daughter. she preferred her nickname "mymy". >> sweetest little thing.

lexus camry or honda with mismatched front bumper and dark rims. anyone with information call the san francisco police department. for the second day in a rowan israeli ship was unable to unload its cargo at the ports of oakland. people gathered at the port again today to try to prevent that ship from docking and unloading in an act of protest against recent israeli military action in gaza. event organizers say the dockworkers honored their picket line. the online ship tracking service marine traffic says that the ship is moored at the port. the ship was scheduled to arrive in oakland yesterday afternoon but the large group of protest ers kept it from docking. fire crews worked fast today to put out a grass fire sparked by a car fire on an eastbound freeway. the driver had pulled on to the right shoulder. westbound 580 in castro valley at 4:45 this afternoon. as you can see from this video taken by news chopper 2 that

car fire touched up a blaze on the hill side next to the freeway. about 10 acres burned and one firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion. several lanes of the freeway had to be closed which caused a big back up on interstate 580 that stretched as you see here for miles. bay area water providers are losing more than 20 billion gallons of water a year as the state deals with the historic droughts. a new study of california records shows that providers have left 3 to 16% of their water due to damaged underground pipes. san jose mercury news reported the aging and broken pipes have leaked enough water to meet the needs of 71,000 families for an entire year. according to the u.s. drought monitor 5% of the state is experiencing exceptional drought conditions, which is the most severe on the scale. almost 4 years after that deadly pipeline explosion and fire in san bruno. pg&e representatives will appear in court for arraignment. the utility is expected to

enter a plea for revised criminal felony charges stemming from the 2010 pipeline blast. the explosion and fire killed 8 people and injured more than 60 others. about 38 homes were destroyed. pg&e calls the explosion a tragic accident and is taking responsibility, but adds that none of its workers knowingly violated laws. a tourist in san francisco is recovering after he was shot in the leg. it happened as the tourist and his wife were talk walking to the end loan neighborhood near polk and ellis streets. the couple heard people yelling followed by a gunshot. the tourist was transported to the hospital is expected to be okay. police took one woman into custody in connection with that shooting. a massive side show stops traffic in oakland tonight. we want to show you pictures from news chopper 2 around 7:30 as more than a hundred cars trucks an advance converged along maritime street near the port of oakland. people running out of their

remembers going to 9ers game with his father at candlestick he says it's all worth it considering the new memories he'll make with his son. >> you're going to be one of the first people ever at levi stadium you're going to remember this and you're probably going to tell it to your grandkids some day. >>reporter: today's game didn't count because it is preseason but what counted fans say spending time with their families at this state of the art venue. developing news in ferguson, missouri where a curfew went into effect 15 minutes ago for the second straight night there. earlier this evening as you see here in these pictures, it was a chaotic scene as hundreds of protesters clashed with police prompting officers to fire tear gas and smoke canisters into the crowd. some of the demonstrators say she will continue to fill the streets until charges are filed against the officer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager michael brown. late today the new york times reported that an autopsy

attorney general eric holder plan to meet in washington tomorrow to discuss the michael brown case. both flew back to washington today from martha's vineyard where they were both vacationing. the founder of san francisco based twitter is getting involved in the protests in ferguson. jack dorsey is from st. louis 12 miles from ferguson. he arrived back home on friday and since then his twitter feed has been filled with his own posts from protests and retweets of other demonstrators. u.s. airstrikes in iraq helped kurdish forces retake parts of iraq's largest dam. military officials say more than a dozen airstrikes were carried out today damaging or destroying 10 armored vehicles, 7 humvees, two armored personnel carriers and one checkpoint. the mosul dam was captured earlier this month by isis. there was a concern they would use the day as a weapon including mosul. there were new reports

isis fighters killed as many as 400 yazidi men in the village in northern iraq. those men were with their families when they were separated rounded up and killed. women and children were kidnapped and ordered by isis to report to a local school and register their families. a touching tribute to robin williams in san francisco. flied memorial church dedicated its morning services to the beloved actor and comedian who died monday in his home. williams often volunteered at glide and donated to the church. glide founder rev. cecil williams remembered him as a passionate man with a passion of helping others and having fun too. >> what i saw behind this man more than anything was i saw

placerville that killed one man last night that we reported on just last night on the 10:00 news. deborah reports from san jose. that plane is based at reid hill view airport and she tells us the plane owner survived. >>reporter: this is facebook video of richard nyland flying his star duster 11 spy plane that crashed outside the airport at 7:00 last night. >> he missed all the power lines and all the phone lines in the air. >>reporter: when fire and sheriff responders arrived they found one man dead in the plane. but richard nyland survived and he was airlifted to the hospital in roseville. >> how unusual is this to see something like this? >> the last plane crash we had up here was probably 20 years

a man who spotted a dog in trouble. >>reporter: when real estate investor ed coin went to wind surf last augie had no idea the unusual lifesaving adventure that would come. >> it was a foggy, windy day, there was big swells, and as i was scooting along the water maybe 15 or 20 miles an hour all of a sudden i saw a dog swimming there in the middle of the bay. >>reporter: the young pup was swimming against the tide and in the cold choppy waters and struggling. >> i thought she was going to drowned because there were waves and they were starting to come over her head. it looked like she was going to be lost. i was able to maneuver around and stop my board near her and take her by the name of the neck and throw her across my board. >>reporter: to safety. a rare water rescue with a happy ending. >> a very beautiful valuable dog. and it was just so strange to see her out there in the middle of the bay swimming along and

15 to 25 miles an hour. we're still thinking some mid to probably mid 80s inland not much in the way of upper 80s out there. here's the change. we have this area of low pressure developing to our north. this will actually move to the south. we once had at least a little bit of a hope this could generate showers across parts of the state including the bay area. looks like that will not be happening but something we'll keep an eye on for friday. a drop off in temperatures for monday and tuesday also drizzle out for tomorrow morning tuesday and wednesday morning. forecast pattern show you the clouds tomorrow morning near the coast a few patches well inland as well. as i do put this into motion the clouds pull back near the shoreline. still keeping it cool for the coast. inland neighborhoods back up into the '80s. not much in the way of 90s. 92 in clear lake. 80s out towards santa rosa fairfield and vacaville. inland you'll find lots of 80s. san jose upper 70s san

roadway blocked. one person has been detained for allegedly running away from the scene. authorities say some of the vehicles burst into flames. a lifeflite helicopter has landed and is preparing to fly a victim to the hospital. again several vehicles involved in this chain reaction crash possibly caused by a speeding driver running a red light. this has caused several life threatening injuries in san jose at capital expressway and ocala. thousands gathered for the silicon valley pride festival. it was a pretty hot day today and that drove folks under big umbrellas this afternoon at discovery meadows. those who came enjoyed a lot of live music a variety of food trucks and booths with health information. organizers rebranded the festival this year changing its name from san jose fried festival as a way of including
