firefighters think may have started this fire. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> good morning tc. >> good morning. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. weather is changing. >> it is, indeed. a lot of reports of drizzle, especially on the san mateo coast, half moon bay, el granada. san francisco very foggy. bigger fog bank. sunny, breezy. cooler inland at 93 would be clearlake or ukiah. that's about it. most inland areas are dealing with 80s because we have a low moving into the pirmth -- into the picture. if -- we have a low. 59 oakland to start. cloudy. 70 for a high today. a little cooler than yesterday. 50s and 60s on uptemperatures. 57, half moon bay. novato and fairfield. that doesn't happen all of the time. it is today. calistoga made it to 49. they are now 51. mid-50s for sebastopol and petaluma, healdsburg.

delta breeze is there. it's getting helped along up to 30. that show dropping in is gonna enhance the fog bank and give us a much stronger delta breeze which means a cooler forecast. low clouds. drizzle. sunny, breezy to windy. 80s through the interior. 60s, 70s, coast and bay. here's sal. >> all right, steve. right now we're looking at the commute and you can see traffic is moving along pretty well in the south bay as we start here. northbound 101, northbound 280, not doing that poorly. you can see traffic is looking good. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza and the traffic is -- it's okay. this is traffic that's normal even though okay at this point in the morning means about a 30- minute delay. at least no accidents or stalls. i want to mention that caltrain is delayed if you take the system, you will see some delays throughout the system as caltrain has tweeted that and also sent that information to 511. if you are driving on the eastshore freeway, traffic here looks pretty good.

it's a little slow in the richmond area, but 24 minutes at this time of the morning between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze, it's not too bad. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you, sal. we continue to follow breaking news in oakland. a large warehouse fire was first reported just before 5:00 this morning at stone and san leandro streets. ktvu's brian flores was the first reporter on the scene and joins us live with more on the firefighters and the challenge they face fighting this fire. >> reporter: good morning. firefighters remain on scene and will be here for quite some time battling this three-alarm fire. you are taking a look at this old carpet depot business that's not been in business for quite some time from what we understand from businesses. we did see flames up. firefighters will be here until it is fully contained. we go to the fire. when we first arrived at 5:15, around 4:00 when the fire first

stard, huge flames coming out of the old carpet depot store in oakland. the cause of the fire still unknown but the latest update we got from firefighters, it started at an abandoned camper shell located behind the old warehouse. the area is known for people lighting trash on fire. when we arrived, firefighters said squatters were seen leaving the area as well. the fire got so big, that a crew had exhausted all of their resources and called for a second-alarm at 5:02. a third alarm was called at 5:24. some type of housing unit wass about returned in the fire. overall, four people have been displaced. the red cross is here to help out. there are also electrical birs hanging above the fire, the warehouse that made it difficult to fight the fire. he's sound from fire officials. >> we had wires down that were live power lips. we weren't able to get as close as we wanted to. it quickly went to a defensive

fire. we had to make sure that the firefighters and the citizens in the area were safe as well. >> reporter: and because of the fire, pg&e cut power to around the area as well. the fire caused damage to the lines. the latest from pg&e during the height of the fire is that more than 5,000 customers were affected. that number has dropped to 2600 customers. as we take it back out here live, again, still very active scene. we have seen a few flare popups inside the building as well on the roof. they are attacking it from above with ladder pipes, at least three of them and a couple of fire engines as well. oakland firefighters will be here until it is fully contained. there's one injury to a firefighter, they say it's a minor injury. this firefighter was trying to cut through a doorway. he was taken to a hospital. he's expected to be okay. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. we'll check back for an update. we're also following developing news from the peninsula. police are looking for the gunman responsible for a deadly shooting in east palo alto.

one teenager was killed. three other young people were hurt. ktvu's janine de la vega has been talking to police officers who have been on the scene since 11:30 last night. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. actually, police just rolled up their crime tape and they just left the scene. but they are still investigating back at the office. they want to talk to the surviving victims and the young people who also didn't get shot in this shooting. they want to know why a gunman opened fire here at georgetown and purdue. police say at about 11:30 last night, there were six people sitting inside a toyota camry when a man started shooting at them. bullets hit four passengers. emergency crews rushed to the scene to help. but an 18-year-old man in the car died from his injuries. the other man and two other women are being treated but are expected to survive. they are at stanford hospital. officers are trying to figure out if the shooter approached

on foot or was in another car. they say the crime is pretty brazen. it seems the car or the other people inside were targeted. >> right now, we're still conducting the investigation and talking to those surviving victims and other witnesses to determine what exactly happened. >> reporter: a tow truck hauled away the camry shot at for evidence in this police investigation. we don't know who owns it but the driver was not shot. everyone in the car was between 18 to 20 years old. the identity of the man who died is not being released yet but we were told thattese from east palo alto. we asked if any words were exchanged between the gunman and the victims or if they knew each other. police are still working to get those answers. they've not released the suspect description but are hoping to once they get more details from the survivors, again, they need to talk to them after they are treated there in the hospital. this is east palo alto's third homicide of the year. reporting live from east palo alto, janine de la vega, ktvu

channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. 11 suspected east palo alto gang members are due in a san mateo county courtroom this morning. they are accused of taking part in a series of killings and other violent crimes across the peninsula during the past few years. officers arrested them earlier this year in an attempt to crack down on violent street gangs in the east palo alto area. nine of the defendants who are charged with murder could face the death penalty if they are convicted. 7:09. a tourist visiting san francisco recovering now after he was shot in the leg in the tenderloin district. it happened yesterday morning. police say the man was walking with his wife near polk and ellis streets when he was hit by a bullet. investigators say the couple was not targeted. police took a woman into custody. she may face charges of attempted murder. there is a bizarre new development involving jahi mcmath, the oakland girl declared brain dead last year. the tribune reports the new york facility that's helping

the mcmath family says jahi is heading back home here to the bay area. the facility put out a call for back-to-school supply, bedding, clothing and other donations for the 13-year-old. however, the lawyer for the mcmath family denies the claim of that facility. jahi was declared brain dead in december following surgery to take out her tonsils. many bay area schools back in session. law enforcement officials want to make sure drivers watch out for kids. according to a new report, 26% of all elementary school students walk or bike to school. this year more police officers will patrol school zones in san francisco. they will provide extra enforcement to make sure mandatory speed limits are kept around schools. two years ago, san francisco became the first city in the state to install 15-mile-an- hour school zones citywide.

damaging businesses. two people were wounded in shootings by civilians, according to police. because there have been protests almost every night since michael brown was shot on august 9th, missouri's governor is now calling for a dramatic step. polo sandoval is in ferguson where the national guard will be on hand to try to keep the peace. good morning, polo. >> reporter: hey, tori. good morning. that's really what officials have been doing, is trying to de-escalate the situation. starting tonight, you can expect a larger law enforcement presence on the streets of ferguson. the governor the missouri actually signing the order that would essentially deploy the soldiers after what was one of the most violent clashes between protesters and police. sunday night saw some of the most fierce protesters. now, governor jay nixon is calling up the missouri national guard to help restore order in the st. louis suburb.

this all comes hours after a family attorney said the autopsy they arranged found brown was shot six times, twice in the head, though not from close range. two civilians were shot sunday not by police, though. authorities say defiant protesters threw molotov cocktails. >> based on these conditions, i had no alternate but to el the level of our -- elevate the level of our response. >> reporter: the key moment was when the crowd marched to the commander. >> we were peaceful. this is unacceptable and this is not the law. this is unacceptable. until we get justice, we will not stop. >> reporter: the protests intensified friday after police identified the shooter as officer darren wilson and releasing a video that shows brown roughing up a store clerk

and stealing cigars. >> they love their child. they had every right for their child to have due process of the law. >> reporter: one more side note, tori, we do also know there was a smaller and separate demonstration during the overnight hours in nearby st. louis. this was in support of officer darren wilson, the officer who reportedly shot and killed 18- year-old michael brown. meanwhile, looking ahead, we know that the brown family along with their attorneys are expected to make a public appearance later today for a press conference, specifically to address those autopsy results that you just heard about, the private autopsy arranged by the brown family. tori? >> all right. polo sandoval, thank you. this is new video this morning from outside a st. louis tv station. more than 100 people rallied there yesterday afternoon in support of officer darren wilson. he's the officer that shot and killed michael brown.

supporters say the tv station aired video of officer wilson's house. the station has apologized and removed that video from their website. a representative with the police officers association says this is a tough time for both brown's family and officer wilson. parents in sonoma county will open their kids' back-to- school packets and find tips about gun safety. it's a safety fact shoot that followings the shooting death of andy lopez last year after a deputy mountain took the boy's -- deputy mistook the boy's air soft gun for a real gun. later, there will be a news conference dealing with a bill that would remove the temporary removal of firearms for people at risk of committing violence. the mass killing near uc santa

barbara earlier this year prompted this proposal. seven people, including the shooter, all died during a shooting rampage in an off- campus community. the bill would create a restraying order that would temporarily stop a mentally unstable person from buying and possessing firearms. 7:18. california could be the first state in the country to regulate the use of antibiotics in poultry and cattle. but environmentalists are opposed. the old bill would ban ranchers from using antibiotics just to increase the animals' weight. opponents say the bill is too weak. there's growing concern that the widespread use of eashts also used by human is creating gerles that are immune to nearly all drugs. the bill will become law if the governor signs it. all right. sal, you have the highway 24 under control? >> well, not really. we have a crash there.

one of the things we mentioned this last time and now the traffic is really starting to slow. let's go right to the picture. westbound 24 at st. stevens there is a crash. the crash is up here. you can see where i'm drawing the arrow. it's just terrible there. in fact, if i get rid of the arrow now that i showed it to you, look how slow it is up there. that's because there is a crash just around this corner. you can see the traffic time is changing before our very eyes. driving westbound, please give yourself extra time because of this crash. again, westbound 24 near st. stevens. at least one lane is taken away by this injury accident. the chp is working hard to get it out of the way. but it's already caused slow traffic as you can see. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza, the traffic is moderately heavy. about a 30, 40-minute drive coming into san francisco. if you are driving on the nimitz freeway, we have slow traffic in hayward heading down to union city. on the peninsula, traffic on 101 and 280 looking pretty good

here. 101 heading down out of the city just a little bit slow until you pass candlestick. remember that place? let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. >> you are welcome. low cloud deck and fog. there is a lot to go around, making a pretty good push here. a low is dropping down. that's going to play into our weather of a cooler forecast. there's numerous reports of drizzle along the san mateo coast. i know half moon bay, el granada, pacifica, san francisco, oakland. areas of fog, drizzle. maybe where you are. westerly breeze to windy out to the delta. gusts to 30 there. sunny, breezy, coastal fog has no problem hanging around today. that low is gonna keep the fog machine rolling along making a pretty good surge inland. the low is right there. right there. spinning. it will settle over us at least. one forecast model -- it's already pumping in a band of high clouds in central california. that might not affect us. the low pushes south. if it goes far enough south to southern california, we would

say hello to my little friend here, the monsoon moisture. now, we'll see. it's very close. if it would tap into that, we might have change our forecast in the week. we'll mention it for now. there's also a tropical depression farther south than that. there's plenty going on. the key will be how far south the low digs. a couple of forecast models keep it hoe over-- it low over us. it's dealing with the fog and cooler temperatures right now. 60s, 70s, and also 80s. the low will give us a cooler forecast for probably into wednesday. then we'll level it off. fog forecast shows plenty here. it will come charging back in tonight and tomorrow as the low moves over us. it's not a strong low but the mere fact it's there. that will give the fog a lot to work with. 59 in oakland. 70 for a high downtown although overcast now, a lot of fog and drizzle. 59 livermore is in there. santa rosa, 57 for half moon bay. 57 fairfield. see that all of the time. 61 san jose. some upper 50s, even brentwood

[laughter] >> that's all you can say? >> that's about right. >> drizzle, gray skies over the bay. sunny, breezy, coastal fog, it looks like every chance to regroup fast even tonight. cooler inland even with the sunshine and the reason for all of this is a low which is coming down out of the pacific northwest. it will settle over the bay area. maybe points south. almost everybody says cloudy skies. that's the low cloud deck. there is a lot of thick fog. 50 on the temperatures. hayward, 63, redwood city, 62. a few upper 50s and the da breeze up to po. that's a sure sign along with a

westerly component. there a tropical clouds skirting through central california. it's those coming out of arizona that we have to keep an eye on for later in the week. a little cooler today. 80s to the interiors. 60s and 70s. here's sal. steve, we have a problem on highway 24 in the way of a crash that left debris all over the lanes. you can see how slow. this has tripled the drive time. traffic is at a standstill near the b.a.r.t. station in la fayette. it usually takes eight minutes, maybe ten to drive between pleasant hill road and the caldecott. it's three times that much right now. the vehicles are on the shoulder. people are slowing to take a look and the wood debris all over the place is making things slow. take b.a.r.t. or use a different route. you don't want to use this route. let's take a look at the toll plaza of the bay bridge, the traffic here is moving along well if you are -- it's moderate. it might start to get better as people are stuck on highway 24 that are not gonna make it here in a timely fashion.

if you are driving on the nimitz freeway, that traffic is building. 7:33. back to the desk. a sideshow last night in oakland turned deadly. a motorcyclist leads police on a high-speed chase from oakland to castro valley. this sideshow started around 7:30 near the port of oakland. tara moriarty is there right now and tara, you can still see some of the evidence from that sideshow this morning. >> reporter: we noticed when we were driving in this morning, there are tire marks, circles where cars do doughnuts all over this roadway. there are speed bumps that we noticed that are pretty new. there's three of them one of them is behind me. you can see it here. they are definitely causing folks to slow down. they've curbed the illegal drag racing. police still have issues with the sideshows. last night was no exception. around 7:30 was when it began. newschopper2 got this overhead look. more than 100 cars, trucks and

vans stopped with people running out in the middle of the tree. the sideshow spilled over to the bay bridge toll plaza before authorities were able to break it up. around 8:30. the chp began a high-speed chase on interstate 880 southbound near 16th street. the chp says that it had to call off the chase a few times when speeds reached more than 100 miles an hour. the pursuit ended in castro valley when the motorcyclist crashed into an suv and was killed. >> someone's bad decisions affects other people. any sideshows and reckless driving, it has to stop. it's not gd for anybody -- not good for anybody. >> reporter: you may remember last week two people were injured after they crashed in a sideshow-related accident in oakland. the chp said the car was in a sideshow and was speeding. here at the port, officials have been talking about adding rumble strips for the past year, but so far that's not happened. live from the port of oakland, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2

news. >> all right. thank you, tara. new this morning, san jose police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash. it happened last night just before 10:00. police say they received calls about a car that hit a man who was crossing center road near balfour drive. when officers arrived, they found him lying in the street. he was taken to the hospital and found dead. the only information about the car, it was a black sedan. they are urging anyone who saw this collision to contact the san jose police department's traffic investigations unit. san jose police also investigating a major crash involving eight different cars. it happened at okala avenue and capitol expressway around 9:30. a black mercedes ran a red light. police say that mercedes broadsided one car causing it to flip several times and hit six more cars. they say the driver of the mercedes tried to run away but was captured by police. he was taken to the hospital.

we don't know if he was arrested. ten people were rushed to local hospitals and some of them are life-threatening injuries. police say speed and alcohol were factors in that crash. 7:36. the 49ers' first game at levi stadium took a tragic turn yesterday when a fan suffered a heart attack in the stands. ktvu channel 2 reporter, alex savidge joins us in the studio with the dramatic rescue effort that unfoamed during the game -- unfolded during the game. >> it was a disturbing scene for fellow 49er fans who watched this man collapse in the stands. he was rushed to the hospital. this all happened during the third quarter in the game between the 9ers and broncos. there are paramedics from the santa clara fire department rushed to help that man. he was given cpr for 15 minutes, then taken from the stadium on a stretcher. now, it's unclear what caused the man to go into cardiac. but it was certainly a hot day in the stands at levi stadium. that particular section where

this fan was sitting was in direct sunlight. throughout the day a number of fans sought relief in the shady concourses. team officials did tell the san jose mercury news the game saw an unusually high number of emergency calls, in all likelihood because of the heat. now, the 49ers put out a statement about what happened during the game. it says the 49ers' organization is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our fans earlier today. we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and friends in this time of sadness." authorities thus far have not released the name of the man who died. we're live in the studio, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. in the meantime, this preseason game was the first real test of how levi stadium would handle a tellout crowd. 65,000 fandz made their way to the stadium. for the most part, the stadium got high marks when it came to

traffic, parking and mass transit. that is in sharp contrast when the soccer game was held a few weeks earlier. leaving levi stadium was even easier. the 9ers lost to the broncos, 34-0 in a game that was never close. the blowout had many of the 65,000 fans heading to the exit early. in fact the stadium was nearly empty by the end of the game. 7:39. one month after a bank rockery and deadly shootout in stockton. 2 investigates sits down for an exclusive interview with the police chief of stockton. >> we know that the officers were determining how many potential hostages were in the car and that alone is difficult to do that early on. >> didn't the officers who were outside the bank see them take

watson was removed -- say they removed him from life support saturday afternoon. he was walking his bike near union square on july 28th when police say 25-year-old anthony witner ran a red light and hit a taxi. the impact sent the taxi into watson and another person. witner ran from the scene but was caught while trying to get away on a nearby bus. prosecutors could bring additional charges. as california's drought continues there is a new study showing bay area water providers are wasting more than 20 billion gallons of water every year. an audit of california records shows providers have lost between 3 and 16% of their water because of damaged underground pipes. the san jose mercury news reports the old and broken pipes have leaked enough water to meet the needs of 71,000 families for a whole year. >> wow. that's kind of depressing. 7:47. let's check in with sal.

leandro streets. ktvu's brian flores was the first reporter on the scene and has more on the firefighter who was injured and how the fire started. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yeah. firefighters have gained an upper hand on this fire that broke, as you mentioned before 5:00 this morning. they got the upper hand about more than an hour and a half ago, i would say. as you can see, crews will be here handling some of the hot spots. a little bit of smoke from the carpet depot building. want to go to some video. when we first arrived here, just after 5:15 this morning. huge flames coming out of the old carpet depot as we mentioned. the store has been abandoned for a couple of years on san leandro street. now, the cause of the fire still unknown. we understand the fire started from an abandoned camper shell which was dumped right next to the old business. the fire spread to the business as well as a home behind it. overall, four people have been displaced as a result of the

fire and there was a minor injury to a firefighter. from what we understand, he was trying to cut through a doorway to get inside. he was taken to a hospital. but he's expected to be okay. the other challenge was the overhead power lines. those active lines came down because of the intense flames. nearby businesses say this isn't the only time a fire has popped up here. one with the owners we talked with, said there was one in the same area a couple of weeks ago. >> we got somebody in the neighborhood whenever they pile up trash, they set it on fire. >> reporter: the cause of the fire still unknown. the flames got so big that a second alarm was called at 5:02. a thid alarm call -- a third alarm was called at 5:34. there have been squatters there making shelter there.

who was in that car, the people involved. we're trying to find out if the car was moving or if it was parked there. at this point, investigators are saying they are still unsure. six people were sitting inside a toyota camera at around 11:30 when a man started shooting at they. bullets hit four passengers. emergency crews rushed to the scene to help. an 18-year-old man in the car died from his injuries. the other man and the two other women are being treated at stanford hospital. but they are expected to survive. officers are trying to figure out if the shooter approached on foot or was in another car. they say this crime is pretty brazen. it seems either the car or the people inside were targeted. i asked police about gang activity in the area. >> this particular intersection right here is not an area known behind crime. so i don't know why the crime occurred right here. but hopefully we'll find out soon enough. >> a tow truck hauled away the camry shot out for evidence in this police investigation.

we don't know who owns it but the driver was not shot. everyone in the car was between 18 and 20 years old. the identity of the man who died is not being released yet. but we're told he's from east palo alto. we asked if any words were exchanged between the gunman and the victims or if they knew each other. at this point, we are police are still working to get the answers. they are hoping to get some more details and hope the victims cooperate once they finish interviewing them. reporting live from east palo alto, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. 11 suspected east palo alto gang members are due in a san mateo county courtroom this morning. they are accused of several killings and other violent crimes around the peninsula during the past few years. these suspects were arrested earlier this year in a crackdown on violent street gangs in the east palo alto area. if convicted, nine of the defendants who were charged with murder could face the death penalty.

8:07. a tourist visiting san francisco is recovering this morning after getting shot in the leg in the city's tenderloin district. police say the man was walking with his wife near polk and ellis streets when he was hit by a bullet. it happened after 10:00 yesterday morning. investigators say the couple was not targeted. police took a woman into custody who may face attempted homicide charges. well, there is a bizarre new development involving jahi mcmath, the oakland girl declared brain dead. the tribune is reporting the new york facility helping the mcmath family says jahi is heading back home here to the bay area. the facility put out a call for back-to-school supplies, for bedding, clothing and other donations for the 13-year-old. however, the lawyer for the mcmath family denies the facility's claim. jahi mcmath was declared brain dead in december following surgery to take out her

tonsils. 8:08. many bay area schools back in session. law enforcement agencies want to make sure drivers watch out for kid heading to school. according to a new report, 26% of all elementary school students in san francisco walk or bike to school. so this year, more police officers will patrol school zones in san francisco and they will provide extra enforcement of mandatory speed limits around schools. two years ago, san francisco became the first city in the street to install 15-mile-an- hour school zones citywide. it's designed to reduce speeding, increase safety and encourage more families to walk or bike to school. 8:09. happening now -- fathers in san francisco's bayview hunters's point neighborhood, they are taking a stand against violence by using a back-to-school tradition. they are walking their kids to school this morning and then they are gonna meet with school the superintendent -- with the school superintendent about

the governor. good morning, polo. >> reporter: hey, tori, good morning to you. while we -- before we dig deeper, really, on that issue, we can tell you that the brown family and also a private pathologist that they hired for second out of three autopsies right now speaking publicly really with brand new details with respect to the trajectory and fatal injuries sustained by 18-year-old michael brown. however, what's still uncertain is how the results will -- the response to those results and what it will be like here in this community. what we do know is the national guard already on standby preparing to potentially respond to any more disturbances here in ferguson. this is under the direction of the governor after what was a very, very tense night. sunday night saw some of the fiercest clashes yet between police and protesters over the death of michael brown. now, governor jay nixon is calling up the missouri national guard to help restore order in the st. louis suburb.

outside a st. louis tv station. more than 100 people rallied there yesterday afternoon in support of officer darren wilson. he is the officer who shot and killed michael brown. supporters say the tv station aired video of officer wilson's house. the station has po apologized and -- has apologizedded and removed the video from the website. they say this is a tough time for brown's family and officer wilson. 8:18. this year, parents in sonoma county will open their kids' back-to-school packets and find tips about gun safety. county board of education created the firearm safety fact sheet. this follows the shooting death of 13-year-old andy lopez last year after a deputy mistook the boy's air soft gun for a real gun. now, that fact sheet includes tips on how to store guns safely and also the terrific of having loaded guns around children. 8:18. want to check in with sal.

well, good morning. welcome back. oakland police say it all started with an automatic of control sideshow right here in oakland last night. more than 100 cars caused traffic chaos. it led to a deadly crash. now, ktvu's tara moriarty right now is live in oakland. these are live pictures. you can see for yourself. the tire marks on the road coming up in two minutes, tara will tell us about the chain of events leading up to that crash and what police are considering doing to put a stop to illegal sideshows. thank you for joining us. welcome back. monday. it's august 18th. i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic and steve's got a lot to tell you. there is a lot going on. a lot of drizzle and fog. it will be cooler, sunny, breezy for areas that don't have to deal with the fog. but a low moving into the picture will give us a cooldown.

50s and 60s on the current temperatures. they haven't budged all morning long. we have a decent sea breeze out of the west. it will cool down areas well inland. fog and low clouds will be on the move late tonight. a cooler forecast, low clouds. misty, drizzly. sunshine for inland. not so much by the coast. 80s through the interiors. here's sal. >> we're looking at trouble on highway 24 westbound coming up to the pleasant hill road exit. you will see slow traffic continuing past an earlier crash at stevens. that car went up the embankment and then came back down and it smashed a treat. there was wood everywhere, tree bits, i guess, and pg&e along with the tow trucks were on the scene. and traffic is still a mess as a result of the crash here because of just onlookers and people kind of being slow and cautious in the area, as they should. let's take a look at the bay

bridge toll plaza, about a 25, 30-minute drive time into san francisco with no major problems. the traffic continues to look good as you drive onto the upper deck of the bay bridge. you will you been waiting there at -- but you will be waiting at the toll plaza. southbound 880 is a mess the we had an accident out of mowry. it's backed up out of union city. back to the desk. a sideshow last night in oakland turned deadly. a motorcyclist leads police on a high of speed chase. now, the sideshow started around 7:30 here right near the port of oakland. tara moriarty is out there right now and tara, you can still see some signs of some evidence from that sideshow this morning. >> reporter: yeah, there is definitely remnants of the sideshow all over the main drag that runs along the port of oakland. this circle marks that you can see where cars were doing doughnuts. this has a speed bump. if you see behind me, if you pan to the right, you can see it's fairly new.

there are three of these speed bumps. they've definitely cut down on the drag raising, according to law enforcement but the sideshows are still going on. last night was no exception. if we take a look at video from newschopper2. it was shot around 7:30 last night. more than 100 cars, trucks and vans stopped with people running out into the street. this sideshow snaked all the way to the bay bridge toll plaza before authorities were able to break it up. around 8:30, the chp began a high-speed chase on 880 southbound near 16th street. after reaching speeds of more than 100 miles an hour, the chase ended in castro valley when the motorcyclist crashed into an suv and was killed. >> it's really concerning that someone would choose to drive in such a reckless manner that affects innocent people on the roadway. there may have been pedestrians. other people on the highway. >> reporter: you may remember last week two people were injured after they crashed in a

sideshow related accident on highway 13 in oakland. the chp says that the car was in a sideshow and was speeding. here at theport, officials have been talking about adding rumble strips for the past year. but we haven't noticed any so far. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:33. san jose police are also investigating a major crash involving eight different cars. it happened at okala and capitol expressway around 9:30 when police a black mercedes ran a red light. police say the mercedes broadsided another car, caughting it to flip hitting six more cars. they say the driver of the mercedes tried to run away but was caught by officers. he was taken to the hospital. it's not clear if he was arrested. ten people were rushed to local hospitals. some with life-threatening injuries. police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. happening today, in fact,

in one hour from now, pg&e heads back to federal court. they are gonna answer the criminal charges stemming from the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. last month, the grand jury issued an it doesn'tment against pg&e accusing them of lying to federal investigators. that came almost four years after the fire and explosion killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes. pg&e said it never knowingly violated any laws in response to the pipeline disaster. over the weekend, in oakland an israeli ship at the port of oakland was blocked from unloading its cargo because of protesters. demonstrators gathered at the port on saturday and yesterday trying to block the ship from document docking and unloading as it protested against the military action in gaza. although the ship is reportedly docked at the port. long moremen refuse --

longshoremen refused to unload it, saying it was unsafe work environment. the 49ers game yesterday took a sad turn. a fan had a heart attack in the stands and later died. alex savidge is live in our newsroom right now with more on the dramatic rescue effort that unfolded during the game. >> good morning to you. what we can tell you here is fellow 49ers fans witnessed this scene as paramedics tried to save this man's life. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. this all happened between the broncos and 49ers game. the paramedics rushed in to help the man and gave him cpr for 15 minutes. he was taken from the stadium on a stretcher. while it's unclear exactly what caused the man to go into cardiac arrest, we do know it was a hot day in the stands at levi stadium and this particular section where that fan was sitting was in direct sunlight. through the jow the day, there

were -- throughout the day, there were fans who sought shade in the concourse. this team did see a high number of emergency calls. in all likelihood because of the heat. the 49ers put out a statement about what happened. it says the 49ers ago organization is deeply saddened to hear the a passing of one of our fans earlier today. we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family and friends in this time of sadness. authorities at this point, have not released the name of the man who died but certainly a saddening to what was supposed to be a day of celebration at the team's new stadium yesterday. we're live in the newsroom, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. in the meantime, this preseason game was the first real test of how levi stadium would handle a sellout crowd. 68,000 fans made their way to the new home of the 9ers yesterday and for the most part, levi stadium got high marks when it came to traffic, parking and mass transit.

that's in sharp contrast to the traffic nightmare during the soccer match at the same stadium two weeks earlier. most fans say getting to the game was a breeze due to plenty of cone zones, traffic signs and helpful police officers. and leaving levi stadium was even easier due in part to an awful performance by the 49ers, unfortunately. they lost to the broncos, 34-0 in a game that was never close. the blowout had many of the 68,000 fans heading to the exit early. levi stadium was nearly empty by the end of the game. so the real test might be when they have a close game and if they stick around. >> when you first checked in, it was 17-0. >> right. a bittersweet moment for a bay area football team. the big hollywood movie about all of their success and the tragic moments that took the life of a star player. >> reporter: we're live in oakland where a firefighter was

it ended on redwood road in castro valley. after that cyclist crashed into an suv. the driver of the suv was not hurt. police in east palo alto searching for the gunman in a deadly shooting late last night. one teenager was killed. three other young people were wounded but they are expected to survive. police are out there looking for suspects and a motive in this shooting. and new this morning, an oakland firefighter was injured during a large warehouse fire in oakland. this started just before 5:00 this morning at stone and san leandro streets. the fire also knocked down a power line and more than 5,000 people lost power for a while. that number is down to 29. brian flores first reported there and the crews are still making sure there's no flareups. >> reporter: they sure are. they will be here for quite sometime as they have been

since the fire started at 4:00 this morning. we've seen flames pop up. so again, the crews will be here until it is fully contained. now, i want to go to video now. when we first arrived after 5:15, huge flames coming out of the old carpet depot store on san leandro street. officially the cause of the fire is still unknown but we understand from fire investigators that the fire started from an abandoned camper shell which was right next to the business and some business owners say there was a problem with illegal dumping in the area as well. but the fire then spread to the business and a residential structure. four people have been displaced as a result of the fire. there was a minor injury as well to a firefighter. from what we understand, this firefighter was trying to cut through a doorway to get independent side. the other challenge -- inside. the other challenge was to get to the power lines. the lines came down because of the intense flames. nearby businesses say this isn't the only time a fire has popped up in the area. one of the bits owners said there was -- business owners said there was one in the area

a couple of weeks ago. >> we have somebody in the neighborhood whenever they pile up trash, they like to set it on fire. this time it happened to catch the building. >> reporter: the flames got so big, in fact, that a second alarm was called at 5:02 and then a third alarm at 5:24. and they attacked this fire pretty intensely using ladder pipes and several engines. business owners from next door say the owners left a couple of years ago and since then there's been squatters in the area that make shelter there. as we take it back out here live, in terms of traffic, the area of san leandro street from 98th until stone street remains closed. pg&e crews are here as well keeping an eye on things at the height of the fire. more than 5,000 customers were without power. we just got an update from pg&e and just 29 customers remain without power this morning. we're live in oakland, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. san francisco police are asking for help to find the driver responsible for a little girl's death over the weekend.

ktvu's pam cook is in the newsroom now with the heartbreaking story and the strong words from a grandmother trying to cope with the devastating loss. pam? >> reporter: yeah, it happened in a crosswalk in a busy part of san francisco. so hopefully someone will step forward with information that leads to the person responsible for the death of a 2-year-old girl. family and friends gathered to remember little miyana gregory. police say she was hit and killed on mission street friday night between 4th and 5th streets. she was with her aunt and twin brother at the time. now, her mother and father were barely able to speak at the vigil yesterday. but her grandmother directed powerful words at the driver who sped away from the scene. >> you destroyed a mother and father, you destroyed sisters and brothers and us as grandparents. why can't you come forward and bring this mother closure, at least let her know who did this

you can see the car came up off the road and hit a tree and smashed it into bits or a power pole and it was all over the road. so that's why it's gonna be pretty slow in the area. as we move to the rest of the east bay, we have a lot of slow traffic at 580 out of livermore and dublin. 680 heading into fremont of the as we take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, that traffic is going to be okay if you are driving to the bay bridge, there are no major problems there. let's move to the -- that's the bay bridge. you can see the traffic is going to be busy. and on the peninsula, 101 northbound, coming through san bruno and south city is very slow as you drive up to the city. now, let's go to steve. >> thank you, sir. a big fog bank out there. there you are. drizzle, some misty conditions. mr. drizzle was parked along the san mateo coast and all the way to oakland today. still a little bit out there in the last half-hour. it will be a cooler forecast. why? because there is a low on the

giraffe is capable of killing a lion and that woman is very lucky to still be alive. a lucky raccoon is once again roaming free this morning. it spent most of yesterday with its head stuck in a metal drain cover. the adult rail raccoon was spotted yesterday morning along crestline way in so cal. we have video from the wildlife emergency services. the santa cruz animal shelter called in the specialist to help rescue the animal. crews sedated the raccoon, then cut the metal from around its neck. a vet treated it for superficial wound. the animal was treated, given grapes and water melon and and returned to its natural habitat. >> good as news. >> yes. we're not staying away from sal. you know about the toll plaza. >> that's right. but i do want to mention that sutter elementary school in
