fire. just a little while ago when news chopper 2 was in the air, we got dramatic video of this fire showing all of the black, black smoke that was in the air just billowing up and across on to highway 37. so there's just a big fire fight going on. they do have a lot of equipment here, a lot of different agencies here fighting the fire. but i will tell you that we did have a photographer on scene earlier as well who actually got on the ground and was very near the fire when things started to explode. there's no word at this point what was exploding. in fact, there's really not -- not much word as to what caused this fire in the first place. but there is a big huge pile of metal, this is a metal recycling plant. a big metal pile. 50 feet tall and an acre wide

that has been on fire this whole time. and i asked in this metal recycling plant what could possibly be on fire like this. here is what he said. >> that's the insulation. it's the material that are on the metal. it's washers, it's dryers, it's wire with insulation on it. that's what is burning. >> reporter: and so this is video that we shot just a couple minutes ago by the fire. you see the firefighters are hitting it hard. firefighters did tell me that this is something that they expect ting doing now for probably a couple of days. because this is the kind of fire where the material is piled up so high that it's hard to get down into it. so they will actually have to physically turn everything over and put out the fire at the bottom of the piles. this could take a while. as far as a cause, firefighters would not say what it is. they don't know yet. but they do say that -- they did tell me that one of the things that they do at a plant like this is use fire to burn

the insulation off of copper wiring and other materials. that is certainly one of the possible explanations for what happened out here. good news though, it is being knocked down right now and no one was injured. live from vallejo, ktvu channel 2 news. >> a smoky fire in the south bay burned a nonprofit donation center. it started shortly after 4:00 this afternoon in santa clara at the hope services donation center on alfred street. it burned as many as four trucks filled with donations such as clothing, furniture and electronics. and the flames didn't reach any buildings. and there are no reports of any injuries from that fire. firefighters say they will be on the scene for a long time tonight to pull apart debris, to make sure that the fire is out. >> a middle school teacher in the east bay is in jail tonight accused of possessing child pornography. police in danville say that wolf was arrested as his home.

live at diablo vista middle school where wolf taught and police will see if any students were victimized. >> reporter: school starts up on monday but wolf will not be be in class. there will be a substitute teacher there. his arrest shocking administrators as well as parents. danville deab blow vista middle school, home to 800 students, dozens of faculty and a 12-year veteran math teacher wolf. her daughters have been through his class. >> he loves what he does. he is personal with the kids. he finds out what is motivates them. >> reporter: danville police say that wolf was arrested this morning on suspicion of child pornography possession. the school district spokesman says that wolf most recently taught 8th grade advanced math. >> all i know is he's a strict teacher. that's all i know about him.

he is a rigorous and strict middle school teacher. at this time we have no reason to believe that any of our students are involved. past or present. >> reporter: police say wolf's arrest came after an investigation launched by the crimes against children task force. wolf's arrest just doesn't feel right. >> i think there's more to it. you know, he's a very important family member in this community as well as a teacher. and i think there's more to it. >> reporter: and danville police also say that wolf is in the county jail in martinez. he is being held on $1 million bail. the school district says he is on paid administrative leave. >> happening now, crews are almost done laying fresh turf at levi stadium in santa clara. this is what it looked like in the last 30 minutes. you can see the fresh grass being rolled out as the worker sprays it with water. and the field is almost now

completely covered. it is a much different scene than yesterday when the turf was being ripped out. it left a brown patch of dirt in the middle of the million dollar field. it was triggered on wednesday after coach harbaugh called off practice because players were tripping examine falling on the loose grass. the coach has an optimistic view ease gets the team ready for sunday's game. ann. >> reporter: he says he is impressed by the 49ers, that they're doing exactly what into eds to be done to make sure that they're ready to play on sunday. the grass is going in at levi stadium, double cut making it thicker and heavier than what was there before. crews are using two machines to roll and compress it and get it game ready. coach harbaugh is convinced it will be. >> we're regrouping and retooling and the newfield is going in. once again, it's our organization, we can count on them to do things at the

highest level. >> reporter: it was his concern that prompted the change. the field was ripped up after some slipped on the surface and fans reported seeing turf come up in chunks. they weren't the only one that's suspected a problem at levi stadium. >> when i watched the game, i knew there was problems on that field. i could tell by looking. >> reporter: george tomo often refer today as the god of sod has worked as the groundskeeper on every super bowl. he believes that the sod will be read knee time. >> you put it down right now and put the lines on it and you play right on it. >> reporter: the 49ers have said this may not be their permanent fixment they will have to evaluate after sunday's game and then make the call. if they decide to put in new grass, tomo says they will be cutting it close to get a strong root structure in place. >> if know what you're doing, it can root in maybe four weeks, six weeks, you know what i mean, if you cut it thin. >> reporter: the team would

chargers at 1:00 p.m. join us after the game with the point after. >> the family of a san francisco security guard shot to death by police filed a federal lawsuit against the city. the 28-year-old was killed in march after police say he appeared to point a taser at officers. ktvu david stevenson was with the protests today as they remembered the man and drew parallels with other police shootings around the country. police, prosecutors and the family are all awaiting the medical examiner's report on the shooting. in the meantime, the federal civil rights case today aims to expedite answers. more than 100 people marched from the hill at midday, egg nighted by the shooting of alejandro by police officers here on the hill. he aimed the taser gun at officers responding to 911 calls about a man with a gun. >> that is a flat out lie.

>> new at 6:00, take a look at this. this gas pump charging customers even though no bass is requesting into their cars. it's video that surprised us when a viewer shared what he recorded at a busy gas station. he is worried that the station is taking advantage of customers for charging them for fuel that they didn't pump. we looked into it to see if this is happening more often than you might think. >> reporter: a viewer posted this video on our facebook page yesterday, wondering if there's a ghost in this pump or something more nefarious going on. no gas is coming out but the price and volume meter keeps creeping up. >> the pump shouldn't have that creep in there. it is a failure and it should be held off sale. >> reporter: he says that doesn't mean there's something afoul. >> there's a whole lot of different aspects that could happen in the gas pump with the

-- there's about four or five different mechanisms in there that cause a creep. >> reporter: the video shows pump number 5 at this arco. the station had already taken it out of service. no surprise to waits and measures director who says among the county's 300 gas stations, such issues come up only five times a year. in fact, two investigations revealed complaints filed with the offices in june of this year going back 18 months, only two resulted in shutting down individual pumps for repairs. nonetheless, folks at the nearby post office are not sure if they get a whole gallon for the posted price. >> i guess you don't really know. you have to trust the station and the person who does the measurement. i never thought about it actually. >> i know i put in 20 bucks and it goes quick. i can't really tell. >> i honestly don't think so to be honest with you. i don't think it's monitored enough. >> reporter: now, someone with

sophisticated knowledge of this digital mechanical system could tamper. in the unlikely event they could break government seals with identical ones. finally when you have a 6 cent a gallon advantage over other gas stations, it is much easier and totally legal to simply raise your prices a couple of cents, still giving you a price advantage and earning you a lot more money. channel 2 news. >> two veteran police officers in fairfield are under investigation tonight. they're suspected of spending long hours at work searching data sites for dates. and then using law enforcement databases to screen the women they're interested in. the investigation came to light in court documents that were filed this week. >> reporter: court documents say that fairfield police officers steven lewis and detective jacob glasshoff used time and equipment to search

for women on internet dating sites and used a police database to screen the women they liked. it has folks in fairfield talking. >> i feel like it's an abuse of power. >> reporter: the court documents allege another fairfield officer reported the incidents to his superior back in the june. the reporting officer alleged that the two officers found women profiles on dating websites while working at the investigations bureau off of the fairfield police department. >> if it's downtime, you know, during their breaks or whatever, that's one thing. but not on the clock. >> reporter: court documents allege that they used a police issued computer to look up women that they found appealing in a database that connects to the dmv and state and federal records. court documents go on to say that the two officers would perform the searches and have conversations about the dating sites in front of other officers. >> you can't control yourself, you know, at work. come on.

not complaining. that's why we live here, because the weather is great compared to the other places in the country and the world, i think. these were the highs yesterday. i like this pattern actually. it is not conducive to brush fires. it's not conducive to poor air quality. and it's just conducive to the california bay area lifestyle that we like. you like the fog at the coast. it's foggy out there right now. you are wearing puffies for sure. all the way through the richmond district. over twin peaks. fog and low clouds will be in deeper tonight. what will happen is we will see a further push of fog than we saw this morning. that's in response to the low pressure center. low pressure takes the inversion and lift it's out and pushes the fog inland tomorrow morning. what does tomorrow look like? just like today. almost the same deal. as we head into sunday, it warms up a little bit as the high starts to dominate. and it will dominate -- the

>> we are getting our first look inside of a special part of levi stadium that shows the educational size of sports. the education center was unveiled today. in its first year the center it slated to host more than 20,000k through 8 students in the bay area on school field trips free of charge. it is part of a stem base education that uses football and levi stadium as education platforms. the $4 million investment in the stem education program is a partnership between the 49ers and chevron. >> they have a little bit of everything at that stadium.

>> they do. >> the one thing they need is a good football field. >> and a good football team. don't forget that. what we know of coach harbaugh, he is trying to focus getting ready for the regular season and all anybody wants to talk about is the turf. the chargers are coming to town and all you hear about is the situation down on the field instead of the players down on the field. as you can see from our helicopter shot, workers are hard out work. and they say that the turf will be ready to go when the 49ers kick off the 1:00. the players are taking the company line, including one of the players who reportedly slipped the other day, causing harbaugh to full pull the team off of the field. here is reaction from the coach and players. >> they told us that it would be ready so i'm going to take their word that it will be ready to go. >> do you believe them. >> yes, sir. >> when i miss kicks, it's easy
