channel 2 news. new at 5:00 a teenage crime spree that included the death of this dog, and police say a very young suspect used a golf club to kill it. the burglary happened yesterday afternoon in san jose. both of the teens were arrested but the homeowner says he's afraid they could do it begin. he spoke with ktvu's. >> the suspects are 13 and 14 years old. they have been taken into custody here at the juvenile center however the homeowner fears because they are so young their punishment might be just a slap on the wrist. >> they actually came to give me a card from the police because they felt really sympathetic. >> eric got home last night to find the doors open, the refrigerate or ransacked and his dog bulge oned and dying on the floor. >> his eyes were flickering. >> he rushed sparky to the

shopping. police say they received a call that a child was in the car. when officers arrived the parents were coming out of a pay less shoe store with an older child. the little boy was unresponsive but breathing and was taken to the hospital where he regained consciousness. medical staff say the boy would have suffered serious injury had he not been pulled out of the car when he was. we're learning new details about a hazmat situation that forced some people in hayward into their homes. in all dozens of people were told to shelter in place but thousands of students at nearby college weren't. and mike is live on the campus with some answers from the school about why. mike. yeah, the president of the college told me today frank, why instill fear in students when firefighters at the scene were telling her own director of safety it's okay and not to

this. but it's big and here is how we got that swell. the hurricane marie down in the eastern pacific is now downgraded. it's falling apart but as it sits out there it spins and the winds are blowing 20, 110 miles per hour and it starts to push swell towards our area from the south because of the strong winds so here, here's new port right here, see how it faces south, new port gets hit. you are going to get swell up here at mall but. see -- malibu. and same with us. the point of conception sits out so far that it actually is going to block a lot of this south swell and i'll illustrate that again because it's interesting to me. but see how the swell is coming from here? it can't get away from this. if the hurricane -- looks like right now the swell stays in

in vallejo near the intersection of highway 27 and 39. we just talked to vallejo fire and they say this is pretty much knocked down. it also appears that no homes have been burned. they were able to keep the flames away. they do expect to have crews out there all night. there is also a homeless en campment in the area and they are going through that making sure everyone is okay. they really swarmed this fire when it first broke out around 3:30 this afternoon. we saw air drops, there was mutual aid. this is only about a mile and a half or so from six flags discovery kingdom but the bottom line tonight, it looks like that fire, according to vallejo fire. they say the fire for the most part is knocked out. family heirlooms in the street and your home in pieces, imagine.

the forest service said today it will allow logging on 50 square miles of lands burned last year. environmentalists oppose the decision saying the blackened create a habitat for spotted owls. pushed for the decision saying logging would help restoring the forest so that the public could once again use the lands. a burning truck caused a big back up and also concerns about dangerous fumes. the flat bed truck caught on fire near the north liver more exit. the truck was carrying chlorine but doesn't appear that any of it leaked.

terrorism fears. and firefighters attack a brush fire from the air and the ground. what they are doing to protect a bay area neighborhood. complete bay area news starts now. the same pg and e substation the scene of a sniper attack has now been targeted again, this time by thieves. good evening. and i'm frank summerville. ktvu has learned that thieves got past the fence and stole construction equipment. ktvu is live at the metcalfe station near morgan hill where she just received some new information about the thefts. >> i want to show you where thieves broke into this chain link fence, it is one of 3 areas at the back of the substation near highway 101 that was cut and broken into. sheriff's deputies are also investigating. here's what happened. around 2:00 in the morning overnight thieves entered the

construction yard next to the substation. it doesn't appear they were after the power grid but did steal construction equipment like hydraulic equipment. it's not clear how long they were there, we are told there is 24/7 security at this substation. is attributing the breach to human error. >> in our investigation one of the fence alarms did go off and that's something we are looking into, was this properly followed up on. we are working closely with the sheriff's office on their investigation. we are also doing our internal investigation. >> pg and e tells us there was no impact to the electrical grid and no customer lost service. there is concern here because of the attack that happened in april of last year where snipers shot at 17 transformers and cut fiberoptic phone
