orleans. here is a break down of the suspension. four games for substance abuse. related to the dui arrest last year. 5 games for violation of the nfl's personal conduct policy. related to the weapons charges and the 49ers also issued a team statement today, they are looking forward to moving forward. our organization has known this decision would come and we repaired for it. he has continued to show growth personally and professionally. and that comes from the 49ers general manager. all and all it hurts the team because he is a great player. they hope he learns something. he is young enough to recoup but he lost $1.24 million of his $2.34 million salary. not going to be allowed to practice, he can attend team meetings however.

>> september 7 at dallas. we will find out how the team reacts. >> see how they do without him. it could be tough for the 49ers early season anyway. >> thank you very much. richmond police are investigating annuls case of an off deut-- an unusual case of an off duty police officer beating a woman with a baseball bat. ktvu's allie rasmus talked with several people who live close to where the attach happened. >> reporter: 2:00 a.m. on august 16, people woke up to a commotion outside. >> we already gone to bed and kept hearing a banging. something. hard to describe. >> reporter: she found out that was the sound of a violent attack. ktvu's the police officer said it was probably -- the police officer said it was probably the baseball bat. >> reporter: a police officer is accused of beating a woman

with a baseball bat. he is a 30 year veteran of the police force. when police found him -- >> he had a mask on the floor board of his vehicle and a bat in the trunk. >> reporter: police say the victim didn't know him, she was just walking through the neighborhood. >> we don't have a motive but we are looking at the possibility maybe there was a mistake in identity, we don't know. >> reporter: neighbors told us the empty home belonged to his parents and the windows were broken out. even if he was trying to protect the property -- >> call police. you don't take matters into your own hands. >> reporter: he was released on bail earlier this months. police say he has been removed from patrol duties and will remain on leave during the

investigation. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the woman who was attacked is expected to recover. police say they are still looking for a second woman who may have tried to intervene and may have been injured in the attack. the highway patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a motorcyclist. she crash canned her motorcycle on interstate 80 about 10:45 p.m. last mouth. a car struck and -- night. a car then struck and killed her. cameras recorded the vehicle and its license plate and they are trying to track down the driver. hundreds of students were left stranded and now the school district is taking responsibility. ktvu's melanie woodrow is here to explain how it happened. >> reporter: they chose a new bus vendor called first student. the district says because they are more sensitive to the needs of special education students but the district and the

advantageler off to a rocky -- and the vendor are off to a rocky start. >> reporter: already he and his mom say they feel they have been -- >> he did not get picked up. we had to take him to school. he did not get picked up on tuesday. >> reporter: he was one of 200 special education students left stranded two days this week. when he was picked up his mom said the ride it school was 2- 1/2 hours. >> we are frustrated this happened. >> we are disappointed in our own performance. >> reporter: he says the district picked a new bus vendor called first student. >> we put our vendor behind the 8 ball because we didn't select the vendor till may. >> reporter: they were short drivers and confused about routes. the district apologized to parents. >> the level of service we

provideicide embarrassing and unacceptable. >> the district will reimburse parents for driving costs. . >> there are parents who could lose their job physical they have to leave to -- jobs if they have to leave to pick up their children. the problem will be fixed for next week. first student said it is enlisting help to get the job done. they said we are short drivers but we are closing the gap. melanie woodrow, ktvu channel 2 news. muni is raising fairs on labor day. the regular fair will go up from $2 to $2.25. a pass will increase from $76 to $80. and increasing from $68 for muni only. this is the first time they raised fairs since 2009.

they will continue to rise in the future. clean up efforts from the earthquake will continue through the holiday weekend. repair crews tell ktvu channel 2 news window glass is on back order and disposing of broken glass is becoming a problem. many businesses are open despite still having broken windows. officials tell ktvu channel 2 news 1400-tons of quake debris has already been collected and that number is growing. also window glass can't be recycled because it needs a higher temperature to melt it down. crews finished repairing all of the broken water lines and water service is now restored. residents are told to use bottled water for drinking or boil tap water for a minute. 153 buildings have been red tagged. and 900 have been yellow tagged. the community is gathering together tonight and people from around the bay area are

joining in to help folks shake off the post quake jitters. ktvu's john fowler is live in napa where some fun is replacing fear tonight. john? >> reporter: that's true. we are at the memorial park. yards from very severely damaged buildings downtown. beam are gathering for the napa city nights concert. tonight features the jimmy hendricks tribute band. but tonight this is taking on -- after this earthquake, taking on a very special meaning of return to normal. >> this is one of those great community events that says napa, come down and entertain. be entertained and have a bite to eat. >> reporter: just three blocks away, the first united

methodist church putting on a community dinner. more than 100 people are expected here. this is all an opportunity for people to connect after this earthquake. >> eat and talk. you know, feel better. about what is going on. when you don't know what is going on, you imagine. >> reporter: mental health people say many folks are traumatized. 150 homes and businesses still red tagged. they set up a sidewalk pizza oven. they are releasing re-- red cross is offering free mental health services and people say the napa folks are resilient. wee back live -- we are back live now. they have great community

new at 6:00 p.m. the first week of school just wrapped up and one district is taking extra measures to bring back resources to a handful of campuses. the school district gave ktvu channel 2 news a look at how officers are being utilized this year. ktvu's cristina rendon explains why the offenses were brought back. >> reporter: with hundreds of students a 17 year law enforcement veteran is tasked with keeping the watchful eye over them this year. >> responding really well. >> reporter: he was one of four school resource officers and assigned to campus. the district did away with the officers inch 2012 when their

budget was cut but a funding partnership allowed them to return. >> so now that the budget is starting to look up in many ways it was something that we wanted to do right away and look at to bring back. >> how are you guys? >> reporter: he will act as an added layer of safety for students in light of the recent violence at other campuses across the nation. >> i try to prepare myself. it is always in the back of my mind. >> reporter: he is here to prevent violence and here to get students on -- get to know students on a personal level. students are asking questions. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> reporter: despite controversy over the officers being armed, many students say it doesn't bother them. >> i feel he wouldn't use it if he didn't need to. >> they are skilled and trained

in how they use that weapon. >> the school resource officers will be employed on a year to year basis. >> i believe this year we will be successful and they want to continue it. >> reporter: he knows the school year will be a long road ahead but he is making students feel comfortable and safe. >> all right. >> reporter: cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. the bay area woman accused of trying to get past airport security check points and board planes says she suffers from mental illness. she says she suffers from whistleblower trauma syndrome. she says she has been diagnosed with depression. she was arrested on tuesday at the phoenix airport. a wildfire burning near casa de fruta is 60% contained. it burned 80 acres near highway

152 that started after 3:00 p.m. yesterday and we told you about it throughout our 6:00 p.m. newscast. cal fire used air drops to protect buildings. no one has been hurt. a car crash sparked the fire near the casa de fruta store. >> reporter: sunday's earthquake is blamed as a possible hole for a new flow of water. residents say it was dry up till saturday night and there hasn't been rain. they worry two large reservoirs that are above the creek may be leaking now. the city asked state inspectors to look. they determined there are no signs of cracking. >> i think what happened was the shaking opened up some of the rock material and i think we have pockets of ground water. my suspicion is it will drain out. >> officials say tests show the water in the creek is different than what is flowing into the

reservoirs. temperatures today about like yesterday. cooler. maybe a degree or two cooler. with the high clouds it is warmer. muggy, humid. tropical clouds moved into the area. they will be streaming in all night. hot spot today was antioch. most spots tomorrow low 90s in the hot areas. inland areas. along the north coast, areas north of san francisco, we will see the subtropical moisture continue to stream in. that is the old hurricane. once a category four major hurricane is now just clouds. nice to get rain from this but we are not. you are seeing green there. it is evaporating before it hits the ground. for the most part we are into a pattern. tomorrow like today. lunchtime minus the clouds. clouds will be out of here. with the clouds gone the

humidity drops. san jose 72 degrees. san francisco, sunset will be neat. actually oakland hills too. fog is coming up. but the subtropical moisture, you know, makes for a great sunset. the forecast tomorrow, high clouds. there is the low clouds. temperatures tomorrow will be warmer than today. see how the high clouds went away. low clouds along the coast. high clouds out. that gives us a chance to decrease the humidity so it will feel cooler. less sticky. highs tomorrow, warmer than today. slight warming trend. 90 fairfield. air quality is good. 87 danville. 90 livermore. still humid. you will notice it tonight. by noon time, 1:00 p.m. tomorrow you will notice the winds kick up and that will usher in drier air. the highs then into the holiday weekend. steady as she goes.

an emergency landing in concord. news chopper 2 ovhead right now -- over head right now with live pictures. that plane landed on its wheels south of highway 4 along willow pass road. the pilot and passenger walked away. again an emergency landing involving that plane near bucanning field in concord. we are working to get more information. mark ibanez joining us now. big news in bay area sports. the suspension of aldon smith. >> as we reported earlier in the newscast. the nfl has come down and heart on the 49ers star linebacker alton smith. he has been suspended by the nfl for 9 games. he will not be eligible to return till november 10, the day after the team plays new orleans. to break it down.
