medical, 300 block. >> it's one of the first radio calls after an oakland police officer runs over a pedestrian near lake marry. i'm mike, ken wayne has the night off. >> i'm heather home. that officer was heading to another call without his light and sirens on. the officer struck the man at east 12th street and third avenue in oakland and the officer behind the wheel stopped to help but there's questions tonight surrounding what happened and kristina rendon is live with information. >>reporter: this intersection

opened 30 minutes ago but before that the detectives were looking at this intersection to get a better angle of what happened. >> the 300 block of 12th street. >> the call from help coming from a police officer around 1:30 this afternoon and a spokes woman says the officer was turning onto east 12th when he hit a pedestrian crossing the street. >> the mrits -- the police enter entered the intersection. >> you wasn't traveling fast but the impact knocked down a 58 year old man and scattered his belongings on the street and a witness said a person with medical experience tried to help the victim. >> she was explaining to us that the pedestrian had a pulse but wasn't responsive. >> the 58 year old is in the hospital in critical condition and the officer is shaken up. >> i spoke to him at the scene

and he's very distraught because of the accident but we had our report come in and they're sitting with him just to give him some support at this time. >> investigators spent hours mapping the scene in what the witness calls a dangerous intersection. >> i'm not sure if a stop sign would have helped because it was oakland police, so they can run the stop signs but there's accidents out here all the time. >> police say they don't know if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when he was hit. >> police are seeking out video so they can see what happened. if you have information, call oakland police division. channel 2 news. we just learned yesterday that we could open for business, so we scrambled to get the place cleaned up. >> he said his wine tasting room

these are teeth marks from the bears that rip these cans open on. it's metal cans so when the bears rip it into pieces, they'll cut their tongues and their teeth and their gums. >> rangers say it's likely that the marijuana grow was of a drug trafficking operation along with thousands of plants and rangers cleared ten miles of irrigation pipe and trash that including propane tanks and car batteries. those have issues an advisory to avoid potentially toxic algae in rivers and water waves. authorities say human weather has increased the presence of the algae. this video shows a blue along the water front. experts say there's no way by looking at the algae to determine if it's toxic. oakland is preparing for a gay pride event.

demonstrators battle in the streets of islam. police fired tear gas on protestors who were trying to storm the prime minister's home. they were trying -- the protestors claim that he came to power through massive fraud in the elections last year. five gold miners still trapped in nick what ga. 22 men have been rescued and they're continuing rescue operations. they broke through a wall of mud and rock while crews chipped away from above. those who got out says they cheered each other on during the first 24 hours but then they started getting hungry. they're paid for the gold they sell to that company.
