moving nicely. hopefully it will stay that way for most of the holiday. police in pittsburg are searching for a man leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run. it happened at willow pass road. ktvu channel 2 reporter alex savidge is out there with what we're learning about the woman killed. >> reporter: this woman was simply walking along the street last night when she was struck and killed. the victim was 50 years old and she lived in this area, according to neighbors. this deadly hit-and-run crash happened about 7:00 last night. officers came here to the intersection of willow pass road and mountain view avenue and they found the victim dead on the sidewalk. police say the pickup truck was going west on willow pass road when it jumped the curb and slammed into the woman as she was pushing a shopping cart. investigators say the driver also knocked down a street light and then dragged that pole for two blocks after the

crash before just driving off. now, this morning, police are on the lookout for the car involved, the truck involved, i should say, it's a late model silver chevy pickup truck with a side step on it and that truck likely will have damage. the woman who died was fairly well known in the area. we've seen that neighbors have set up a small memorial out here at the crash site near the area on the sidewalk where she was killed. we saw a stuffed animal and candles left there last night. if you have any information about this deadly hit-and-run crash, pittsburg police would like to hear from you. we're live this morning in pittsburg, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. also new this morning, police are investigating a deadly shooting at a santa rosa motel. that happened just before 8:00 last night. the vagabond inn on cleveland avenue. officers arrive and found a 20- year-old man shot and killed inside a room. no arrests have been made. but anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact santa rosa police. also this morning, san

francisco police are investigating a shooting they say started with an argument between a pedestrian and a driver. this is video from the area of golden gate avenue and broderick street where the shooting happened. police say just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon, a near- miss between a man who was crossing the street and a driver started an argument. that's when the person inside the car opened fire. the man who was shot is in critical condition. the driver left the scene and so far police don't have any information on that suspect. 7:05. oakland police still investigating the 50th homicide of the year in oakland after a deadly shooting at the coliseum flea market. it happened around 1:00 yesterday afternoon on coliseum way near 880. police say one person was killed but they haven't officially released information on the victim's age or gender. a woman who told us that the victim was her 22-year-old son, heather uribe. witnesses say the -- hector

uribe. witnesses say he may have been trying to break into a car when shot by a security guard. police have not confirmed that. >> it doesn't matter what he was doing. they don't have the right to kill him. >> now, so far, no arrests have been made in the shooting and the investigation continues. it's been a little more than a week since napa's strong earthquake. it's taking time for life to return to normal. there's still a lot of visible damage in the area. many businesses are still not allowed to reopen. but business owners are helping each other. for example, the owner of a men's clothing store that's not damaged invited the owner of a woman's store to share his business space. >> i knew i had space to it. barb's a good friend. she was shut down. just trying to help out. >> it's a great opportunity to have a clearance sale. we call it a quake sale. >> napa's mayor says community spirit is what will help people get through the aftershocks. the mayor add supporting local businesses will help keep the

city strong. the quake forced dozens of people from their moeb homes. 22 are red tagged. 41 others are yellow tagged. people can go in but they can't stay the night. more are expected to be yellow tagged and investigators continue their work. quake victims will have a new resource. the american red cross will open an emergency assistance center at the napa valley marry on the. it will be open from 10:00 in the morning and 7:00 at night. people living in napa can meet with caseworkers there to find out what resources are available. happening today -- muni riders in san francisco, you are gonna have to pay a little more starting today. this is the first muni fare hike in five years. clod claudine wong joining us -- claudine wong joining us live in san francisco to explain the fare hikes. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we're along van net avenue here today which is a muni corridor. two things to remember if you are a muni rider.

one, things are on a holiday schedule because of the labor day weekend. that means a sunday schedule and sunday, muni is more expensive than yesterday. bring extra crash. the transportation agency has been trying to get the word out. this may take a little getting used to. this is the first time in five years that fares have gone up. the fare hike is part of a formula that takes into account labor costs and the bay area consumer index but one rider we talked to was not happy. >> it seems like a lot to pay for a one-way trip. i can see the possibility of charging that amount if transfers lasted, you know half a way or something like that. but for a one-way trip. that's a lot of money to pay. >> reporter: how much are fares going up? well, adult fares went up 25 cents to $2-point 25. that's. muni monthly passes also got

more expensive from $66 to $68. if you use a monthly pass those go up to $80. fares for seniors, the disabled and youth stay the same at 75 cents at arrest for now. they are expected to go up in 2016. these hikes all part of a gradual fare increase schedule. back live out here on van ness avenue, we talked to another gentleman who says he doesn't ride every day, so the 25 cents doesn't bother him. he did remember to bring extra cash today. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. well, caltrans says they are making progress on interstate 280. right now, the northbound lanes on 280 are closed from the highway 101 interchange to king street. they've been closed since thursday. they are expected to reopen, though, by 5:00 tomorrow morning. now, large sections of the road are being -- being removed so new hinges can be replaced and that will allow for

expansion during an earthquake. this was scheduled to be done during the napa but the quake drives home the importance of the work. >> that's for sure. he's been released on bail. what 49ers' lineman ray mcdonald is saying after being arrested for domestic violence and how the fans are reacting. governor rick perry says a disparaging tweet recently deleted from his personal account was not authorized. after the break, what it said, who it targeted and how the governor is responding. mostly clear out. some patchy fog. it won't stop inland temperatures and bay side temperatures in the 80s and 90s. we'll see how long this warm pattern lasts and if there's cooler weather on the way. ♪

the president due to deliver comments before a crowd of union workers at a labor day festival. now, he first spoke at the event in 2010 months before a heated legal battle over scott walker's efforts to get rid of the collective bargaining rights of most public employees in that state. israel announced plans to take over 1,000 more acres of land in the west bank, something the united states very much is against. israel radio says its response to the kidnapping and killing of three jewish teenagers by hamas militants in that area back in june, that sparked a seven-week war that ended last week with an egyptian-brokered cease-fire. the state department is urging israel to reverse its decision. they are calling it counterproductive to israel's goal of a negotiated two-state solution with the palestinians. the u.s. ambassador to libya says video that shows libyan militia members playing

and swimming at a compound does not mean the building has been ransacked. staff left tripoli in july because of heavy fighting. the militia groups claim they are protecting the compound from looters. reporters were taken on a tour of the compound over the building. the video is so show the building is secure. 7:14. texas governor rick perry says he do not authorize a tweet sent out from his twitter account mocking the woman at the center of his abuse of power accusations. that tweet which has been deleted, showed an image of the district attorney arrested on drunk driving charges. governor perry vetoed funding for her office when she refused to resign. that led to a grand jury indictment against the governor. governor perry has called the abuse of power actions a political ploy but says he does not condone that tweet and that

he took it down. doctors are bringing joan rivers out of a medically induced coma. according to the new york daily news, interests have started the waking up process. they are concerned about permanent brain damage. the 81-year-old had a heart attack last thursday during outpatient surgery on more vocal cord. during a day in manhattan hours before she joked about her own death saying i'm 81 i could go at any moment. doctors won't know the extent of the damage until tomorrow at the earliest. michael sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted in the nfl, he's still wondering if he will have a future in the nfl. now, in may, he was drafted by the st. louis rams as their 249th overall pick. but on saturday, the rams cut him. they released him. after the news, michael sam tweeted a thank you to the rams. he said he looks forward to building on the progress he made there. the rams' head coach jeff fisher said this was purely a football decision and he's

wishing michael sam all of the best. >> very, very productive in the preseason for us and played all four spots and there's a very, very talented young player that i think has a really good future. >> so michael sam is now a free agent and has options. he could sign with another team if they show interest or he could sign as a member of the rams' practice squad. it's a group of ten players who normally don't travel or suit up for home games. this morning, representatives for jennifer lawrence are responding after naked pictures of the actress were posted online. lawrence's representatives are calling the pictures "a flagrant privacy violation." they've threatened to sue any website that posts them. hackers have posted naked pictures of dozens of other celebrities including kate upton. hackers reportedly access the image from the apple i cloud

storage service. the rapper kid cuddy is apologizing to fans after he painted during a show in chicago. he was running around in front of the audience saturday night during the north coast music festival. he stopped to sign an autograph and right there, he collapsed. security guards caught him before he hit the ground. they carried him away as you see right here. kid cuddy tweeted he passed out because he didn't eat before the show. he says he's really sorry if he scared any of his fans. 7:17 is the time right now. paper or plastic? first first we want to cover traffic because sal is off today but, you know, we're not expecting a lot of traffic. i forgot about it. but oakland, 880 not a lot of cars out there this morning. that's the good news. weerts we're keeping an -- we're keeping an eye on the toll plaza. it's been very light out there.

local supporters of ukraine are scheduled to hold a meeting to call for u.s. intervention in the crisis with russia. organizers of the rally say they will call on president obama to provide military assistance to help ukraine defend itself against russian troops. now, the demonstration comes after clashes overnight between ukrainian forces and, rebels loyal to russia at an airport in ukraine. the rally is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m. at ssk center plaza. today is the 10th

anniversary of a hostage standoff that became the deadliest attack in russia's history. 385 people were killed, including 156 children in the standoff at the school in the town of bethland. beslan. russian authorities say the standoff came to an end after setting off explosions after killing some hostages. back here at home, oakland pride festival celebrated its fifth year this weekend. [laughter] >> maybe i heard it wrong. 59 san francisco to start. 68 noon. 76. you know, the warm ocean temperatures have held up the temperatures in san francisco. i mean, it was 1.3 degrees above average in august. if you think it's been warm in the city, it has been. warmer than normal. that's for sure. didn't need a jacket saturday night. 80 degrees. that's above average on the temperatures. there is a little bit of fog. it's hugging the san mateo coast. santa cruz down to monterey, but that's it. inland temperatures are going to warm up fast. there's a little hint of an easterly breeze. 50s and 60s. santa rosa and napa at 53. 60 at sfo. 58 livermore. but there is an easterly breeze at livermore. any breeze understand 10 for fairfield has gone from 12, the, 8, that's a -- 12, 9, 8, that's a screaming message it will be warm. the fog is confined to the san mateo coast, santa cruz. other than that, it will be

would not say what happened early sunday morning that led to his arrest. when pressed, he said it was a crazy situation. football fans we spoke to this morning said they are disappointed to hear about ray mcdonald's arrest and it is damaging the 49ers' reputation. we were there yesterday when mcdonald bailed out of the county jail in san jose after being arrested for domestic violence. the defensive end was holding a dead cell phone and trying to hail a cab. police were called to the 29- year-old's home in an upscale silver creek neighborhood just before 3:00 sunday morning. the sacramento bee is reporting he was involved in an altercation with his fiance who is 10 weeks pregnant. the paper says she showed officers bruises on her neck and arms. other 49ers' players were at the home during the incident. this is what mcdonald told our crew. >> the truth will come out. everybody knows what kind of person i am. >> what kind of person are you?

>> i'm just a -- i'm a good- hearted person. >> reporter: the 49ers' general manager issued a statement saying "the 49ers ago organization is aware of the recent report regarding ray mcdonald and we take such matters seriously." coach jim harbaugh has yet to issue a statement on mcdonald's arrest. last year, dante witner released this quote about harbaugh's views. he said "we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he will forgive us except put our hands on women. if you put your hand on a woman, then you are done in his book." this is what fans told us this morning -- >> domestic abuse and child molestation are two of the lowest things that any human being can do.

i'm entirely in agreement with him and say that's it. i don't forgive that. it will be interesting to see what he does. i'm quite certain he will follow through on it. >> reporter: sports analysts say ray mcdonald's arrest will test the new nfl policy on players' conduct when it comes to domestic violence. last week, the commissioner roger goodell implemented a six- game suspension for a first offense and a banishment for a second offense. mcdonald's court appearance is set for september 15th and the 49ers' next game is in dallas on sunday and we still have yet to hear if mcdonald will play. reporting live from santa clara, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, janine. according to an nfl tracking database, the 49ers lead the league in players arrested. ray mcdonald was the 10th navy arrest since the beginning of 2012. other players include aldon smith who was suspended r for

the first nine games of the series for a series of arrests last year. in march chris culliver was arrested on suspicion of hit and run. other players have also had run- ins with the law. local law enforcement agencies are cracking down on drunk drivers this labor day weekend. the holiday enforcement will be in place until just before midnight tonight. dui checkpoints and saturation patrols have been set up across the bay area since friday. several arrests for dui have already been made. last year, the chp made more than 1200 dui arrests. more than 49 people were killed in crashes on california roads. and police -- police will be cracking down on speeders. 72 were cited during special enforcement patrols in santa rosa and petaluma. this is video of similar patrols in west marin. this weekend's patrols targeted

sonoma with a history of crashes. one driver was clocked at 88 miles per hour. a 21-year-old man facing five counts of attempted murder accused of firing shots into a house filled with people in livermore. anthony torres was arrested yesterday morning and booked into the santa rita jail. he was arrested during a traffic stop. two people with him were also arrested but they were released as the police continue the investigation. now, police believe torres fired several shots at a house on third and q streets in livermore early yesterday morning. according to police, torres and two other men were at a house party and there was an argument. they left but a couple of minutes later, police say they pulled up in a white sedan and torres reportedly fired shots. >> for this neighborhood, nothing like that has ever happened ever. never heard anything like it which is why i didn't believe this they were gunshots at

first. >> those shot are expected to survive. if you plan to head to the beach today, you are being urged to use caution. yesterday firefighters in san francisco had to rescue two men who got trapped by high tide. they walked to a small outlet at the northern end of the beach but the rising tides cut off their path back to the beach. firefighters rescued the men without any injuries. a bill on governor brown's desk would set up the nation's toughest protections of online student information. the legislation bans the use of students' personal information for profit. companies that provide online services for classroom teaching often require students to create accounts that store their personal information. now, the new law would prohibit those companies from selling students' personal information to advertisers. and a school district near palm springs is changing is it its mascots after complaints from arab americans. they say the mascot was created back in the '20s to recognize

the desert's reliance on date farming, a traditionally middle eastern crop. the anti-discrimination committee sent a letter to the school district complaining it promoted stereotypes. the district is now collaborating with the civil rights group to make changes to the mascot. a $100,000 reward offered for information leading to the arrest of a man accused of robbing banks here in california and in nebraska. yesterday, police in nebraska confirmed a man who robbed a bank last week, matches the description of the ak-47 bandit. police say he made stops at five other banks on the west coast in 2012. including one in chino near leaks. it ended with a police officer being shot and injured. chino police are in nebraska city now working with officials there as well as the fbi on that case. caste foods recalling thousands of cases of one of its most popular products. the recall affects several packaging versions of kraft

singles patch churrized cheese. the -- pasturized cheese. the company is concerned about improper storage. there's no word of anyone being sick from the cheese. the cheese packages being red are the 12-ounce american singles with 16 slices, 16- ounce american singles with 24 slices and 64-ounce american singles with 96 slices. all had labels saying they were best used by february 20th or 21st of 2015. the affected cheeses were made at the company's springfield, missouri plant. if you have any of those packages, take them back to the store and get a refund. happening today -- tens of thousands of people are expected to line the san diego harbor to view the sandcastle challenge. sand artists from as far away as italy, ireland and canada spent the weekend creating the elaborate sculptures made only

16th marks the end of business for trump plaza. the closures come for a series of bankruptcy filings and a lack of interest by tourists. sonoma county starts to enforce its ban on plastic bags today. supporters hope the ban will encourage people to bring their reusable bags for groceries and other products. businesses have to charge 10 cents for each paper bag that's requested. the sonoma county ban went into effect in march but it was not enforced. more than 120 california cities and counties have similar laws now. and a bill on the governor's desk would establish a statewide ban on plastic bags. sal is off today. we're keeping an eye on traffic for you. i'm happy to say it's moving along nicely. here is a look as cars are approaching the maze, the maze.

three people hit by lightning last night. this happened at orchard beach in the bronx. the lightning was part of heavy thunderstorms that hit the city. two victims tried to hide under a tree. but they were thrown ten feet when the lightning hit. >> lightning did hit the water. >> it hit the water? >> it hit the water or the sand. i don't know. you saw an explosion. >> you could see stuff lift up and people running. >> the peach was closed down for safety reasons. at this point, we don't know the conditions of the three people hit by lightning but the authorities say it doesn't appear they were seriously hurt. now, the lightning strike in new york comes about a month after a person was killed and 13 others were hurt by a rare lightning storm in southern california. this happened at venice beach, the end of july. it caught a lot of people by surprise. witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing dozens of people running, trying to get away. all of the victims were inner around the water at the time of

crash happened. oakland police say a police officer was responding to a call at a slow rate of speed when that man was hit. the police car's lights and see wrens were not on at the time. police in ferguson, missouri are now wearing body cameras following the shooting of an unarmed teenager that sparked a violent protest. ferguson police began wearing the cameras capable of recording video and audio on saturday while providing security at a rally over the shooting of michael brown. a grand jury is now hearing evidence to decide whether charges will be filed against the officer who fired on michael brown. the justice department has also opened a civil rights investigation. two pages on a popular fund- raising website have been taken down after collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars for the officer who shot michael brown. the los angeles times reports the pages support officer darren wilson and support officer wilson are no longer posted on the gofundme site.

as the day goes on. highway 24 in walnut creek. we'll continue to watch the roads for you throughout the morning. well, this morning police in pittsburg are searching for a driver accused of leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash. it happened at about 7:00 last night at the intersection of willow pass and that is where alex savidge has been all morning long. alex? >> reporter: good morning to you. the victim in this case was a 50-year-old woman and neighbors say she did live here in this area close to where the crash happened last night. it happened about 7:00 last night. this was a hit-and-run accident. police officers responded to the intersection of willow pass road and mountain view avenue. and they found the victim already dead on the sidewalk. police say a pickup truck was going west on willow pass road when it jumped the curb and slammed into this woman as she was pushing the shopping cart along the sidewalk. investigators say the driver also took out a street light and dragged that pole for two blocks after the crash, before

then driving off. this morning police are on the lookout for a late model silver chevy pickup truck with a side step on it. the truck will likely have damage to it as well. we understand the woman who died was fairly well-known in this area, already we've seen that neighbors have set up a small memorial at the crash site here on the sidewalk with a stuffed animal and some candles left behind for her. if you have any information about this deadly hit-and-run crash that happened out here, put in a call to pittsburg police. we're live in pittsburg, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. well, also new this morning, police are investigating a shooting at a santa rosa motel. it happened just before 8:00 last night at the vagabond inn on cleveland avenue when officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old man who had been shot to death inside a woman. one man who has been staying at the hotel for a week says he saw a red car leaving the scene. >> the car was circling the building here a little bit. all of a sudden, it pulled up real fast, busted up the room,

jumped in the car and took off. >> no arrests have been made. anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact santa rosa police. also this morning. san francisco police investigating a shooting they say started with an argument between someone crossing the road and a driver. now, this is video from the area of golden gate avenue and broderick street, where the shooting happened. police say after 2:00 yesterday afternoon a near-miss between a man crossing the street and a driver started an argument. that's when the person in the car opened fire. the man who was shot is in critical condition. the driver left the scene, and so far police don't have any information on that suspect. time is now 8:03. here on "mornings on 2," oakland police investigating the 50th homicide of the year. it happened around 1:00 yesterday afternoon on coliseum way near 880. police say one person was killed. but they haven't given us specific information about the

anchor gender of that person who was shot. however, a woman told ktvu the victim was her 22-year-old son, hector uribe. witnesses say the shooting victim may have been breaking into a car when he was shot by a security guard. but the police have not confirmed that. >> it doesn't matter what he was doing. they don't have a -- the right to kill him. >> now, so far, no arrests have been made. the investigation continues. it's been a little more than a week since napa's strong earthquake but it's taking time for life to return to normal. still, a lot of visible damage in the downtown area. many businesses are not allowed to reopen. but business owners are helping each over. the owner of a men's clothing store that's not damaged invited the owner of a women's store to share his space. >> i knew i had space to do it. barb's a food friend. she was shut down for a while. just trying to help out. >> this is a great opportunity to have a clearance sale.

we call it a quake sale. >> napa's mayor says that community's spirit is what will help people get through the aftershocks and the cleanup. the mayor adds having tourists and locals supporting the businesses will help keep the city strong. the quake did force dozens of people from their it mobile home parks. 22 have been red tagged at three parks in napa. 41 others are yellow tagged. that means mean can go in but they cannot stay the night. more homes are expected to be yellow tagged as inspectors continue their work. good news, quake victims have a new resource starting today. the american red cross will open an emergency assistance center at the napa valley marry on the on solano avenue. it -- mare mariottt on solano avenue. people can meet there with case workers to find out what resources are available. scientists and experts will gather at uc berkeley and talk

have to dig into their pocket for that extra quarter. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. caltrans says they are making progress in the seismic retrofit work on 280. right now, the northbound lanes on 280, they are closed from the highway 101 interchange to king street. it's been closed since thursday. they are expected to reopen at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. now, big sections of the road are being removed so that old hinges can be replaced. the new hinges they will allow the road to expand and contract during an earthquake. caltrans says this retrofit was scheduled before the napa earthquake but since that quake happened it shows why that work is so important. right now, it is 8:08. a key defensive lineman for the 49ers arrested on charges of domestic violence. coming up at 8:30, what we're learning about the alleged altercation and how fans are reacting this morning. a controversial tweet from

welcome back to "mornings on 2." happening today, local supporters of ukraine are scheduled to hold a rally at san francisco's city hall to call for u.s. intervention in the crisis with russia. organizers of the rally say they will call on president obama to provide military assistance to help ukraine defend itself against russian troops.

now, the demonstration comes after clashes overnight in eastern ukraine. the rally is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m. at civic center plaza. a somer milestone in russia. today is the 10th anniversary of a hostage standoff that became the deadliest terror attack in russia's history. 385 people were killed, including 156 children in a standoff at a school in the town of beslan. now more than 1,000 students and teachers were taken hostage by chechen rebels and held for three days without food or water. russian authorities say the standoff came to an end after rebels set off explosions of a killing some of the hostages. family members of some of the victims have questioned the government's aversion of the event. happening today -- president obama is expected to highlight the nations economic recovery in a labor day speech in milwaukee, wisconsin. the president is due to deliver those comments before a crowd of union employees at a labor

just talked to a team spokesman. what did they say, janine? >> reporter: we were exwhunny kateing through --  communicating through e-mail. they released a brief statement. this morning they are not saying much more. i asked a spokesman whether or not ray mcdonald would get to play this sunday against the dallas cowboys. and he said they are not commenting further. but they told us the team has the day off today. our cameras were there when ray mcdonald bailed out of the county jail in san jose after being arrested for domestic violence yesterday. the defensive end was holding a dead cell phone and trying to hail a cab. police were called to the 29- year-old's home in an upscale silver creek neighborhood just before 3:00 sunday morning. the sacramento bee is reporting he was involved in an altercation with his fiance who is ten weeks pregnant. the paper said she showed officers bruises on her neck and arms. other 49er players were at the home. this is what mcdonald told our crew. >> the truth will come out.

everybody knows what kind of person i am. >> what kind of person are you? >> i'm just a -- a good-hearted person, you know. >> reporter: the 49ers' general manager issued a statement yesterday saying "the 49ers ago organization is aware of the recent report regarding ray mcdonald. and we take such matters seriously." coach harbaugh has yet to issue a statement on ray mcdonald's arrest. last year, former 49ers' player dante witner released this quote about harbaugh's views. he said we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he will forgive us except put our hands on women. if you put your hand on a woman, then you are done in his book." this is what fans told us this morning -- >> i'm against violence because i'm a victim of violence, too,

for a series of arrests last year. in march, cornerback chris culliver was arrested on suspicion of hit and run and players al netter, daniel kill gore and marcus dobbs have all had run-ins with the law. local law enforcement agencies are cracking down on drunk drivers this labor day weekend. the holiday enforcement will be in place before midnight. dui checkpoints and saturation patrols have been set up across the bay area since friday. several arrests for dui have already been made. last year the chp made more than 1200 dui arrests and more 49 people were killed in crashes on california roads. police are not just looking for drunk drivers, though, they are gonna be cracking down on speeders. 72 drivers were cited for speeding over the weekend during the special enforcement patrols in santa rosa and petaluma. a tropical storms targeted sonoma county roads with a history of speed-related crashes. including lakeville and todd road. one driver clocked at 80 miles

an hour. a 21-year-old man facing five counts of attempted murder. he's accused of opening fire on a house filled with people in livermore. anthony torres was arrested yesterday morning he was booked into the santa rita jail. he was arrested during a traffic stop. two people who were with him were also arrested but they were released as the investigation continues. now, police believe torres fired several shots at a home on q and third street early yesterday morning. according to police, torres and two other men were at a house party. there was an argument. they left but a couple of minutes later, police say they pulled up in a white sedan and torres allegedly fired shots. >> for this neighborhood, nothing like that has ever happened, ever. never heard anything like it which is why i didn't believe they were gunshots at first. >> three women and two men were shot. all are expected to survive. if you plan to head to the beach this labor day holiday, you are being urged to use

caution. yesterday, firefighters in san francisco had to rescue two men trapped by high tides at ocean beach near the cliffhouse. the men had walked to a small outlet at the northern end of the beach but the rising tides cut off their path back to the beach. firefighters were able to rescue the men without any injuries. 8:35. the bill now on governor brown's desk would set up the toughest protection esof online student information. the legislation would ban the use of students' personal information for profit. companies that provide yol services for classroom teaching often will require that students create an account to store their personal information. well, this proposed new law would prohibit those companies from selling students' personal information to advertisers. a school district near palm springs is changing its mascot after complaints from arab- americans. the coachella valley unified school district says the mascot with a large hooked nose and a head starf was created to

recognize the desert's reliance on date farming which is traditionally a middle eastern crop. the antidiscrimination committee sent a letter to the district complaining it promoted stereotypes. the district is collaborating with civil rights groups to make changes to the mascot. $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man robbing banks here in california and also in nebraska. yesterday, police in nebraska confirmed the man who robbed a bank last week matches the description of the ak-47 bandit. police say he made stops at five other banks on the west coast in 2012, including one in chino, near los angeles. it ended with a police officer being shot and wounded. chino police are in nebraska now. they are working with local officials and the fbi on this case. the state legislature has ended the session without debating a bill that would have provided incentives for tesla to build a new battery factory

in california. virl illallists -- environmentalists opposed the bill. the measure reportedly contained tax breaks of $500,000 for the carmaker. tesla is said to be considering four other states as possible sites for the new factory. caste foods is recalling cheese products. it affects several versions of kraft american singles. the company is worried about improper storage that may have caughted some of the cheese to spoil. there's no report of anyone becoming sick from the cheese. now, the cheese page as are the 12-ounce american singles with 16 slices. 16-ounce with 24 slices and 64- ounces with 96 slices. all had labels saying best used by february 20th or 21st of 2015 and the affected cheesed were made at the company's

searching for a driver accused of leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash. it happened at the intersection of willow pass around 7:00 last night. ktvu's alex savidge has been out there all morning long. you are finding out more about the woman who was killed when the driver jumped the curb. alex? >> reporter: dave, good morning to you. the victim in this case was a 50-year-old woman. neighbors say she lived close by. she was walking along the sidewalk across the street from us when she was hit last night. this deadly crash happened about 7:00. officers responded here to willow pass road and mountain view avenue and that's when they found the victim dead on the sidewalk. police say a pickup drub was going west on pillow pass road when it jumped the curb and slaged into this woman -- slammed into this woman as she was pushing a shopping cart. investigators say the driver knocked out a street light and dragged that pole for two blocks after the crash before then driving off. this morning police are on the

look outfor a late model silver chevy pickup truck with a side step on it. the truck will likely have damage to it. the woman who died was well- known. we've seen neighbors have set up a small memorial with a stuffed animal and candles. police are still investigating. if you know anything about this deadly hit-and-run crash put in a call to investigators. we're live this morning in pittsburg, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. an oakland man still in critical condition this morning after being hit by a police car. this happened saturday afternoon on east 1th street -- east 12th street. we don't know if the man was in a crosswalk when the crash occurred. oakland police say a police officer was responding to a call at a slow rate of speed when that man was hit. the police car's lights and sirens were not on at the time. nascar driver tony stewart is back. he returned to racing this past weekend after the tragic crash

last month where his car hit and killed kevin ward junior in new york. >> tony stewart! [ cheers ] >> fans applauded stewart yesterday during driver introductions. stewart started the race in 12th. his race ended when he hit the wall blew a right front tire. kasey kahne won the race. he kipped three races after the tragedy. he's now focusing on next weekend's race in richmond, virginia. indy car driver mckale continues to make progress at a southern california hospital this morning. he was in a practice run in fontana on friday night when, wow, that's hard to watch. lost control went into a guardrail. it looks like the car just exploded. the 27-year-old russian is in stable condition at loma linda university medical center where he's expected to stay through the week. he frack tied several ribs, broke his right clavicle and suffered a concussion.

8:46. today, sonoma county plans to start enforcing its ban on plastic bags. supporters hope this will encourage people to bring their own reusable bags for groceries and other products. businesses now have to charge 10 cents for every paper bag that's requested. the sonoma county ban took effect in march but it was not enforced. more than 120 california cities and counties have similar laws now and a bill that's on the governor's desk would establish a statewide ban on plastic bags. northern california businesses that rely on lakes and rivers, they are hoping they will get a boost this holiday weekend. the state's drought has dried up several lakes and rivers. the people are still heading to folsom lake near sacramento to enjoy the unofficial end of summer. business owners are -- this -- they say this will help them after a tough vacation -- season. >> i would say we're 60% of last year. this is the last hurrah for the
