the cloud has apple responding. we'll tell you what the tech giant has done to protect its users. good morning. thank you for joining us. we are live in healdsburg this morning. you are looking at healdsburg high school. a fire started inside the gym. this was just before 3:00 this morning. crews are still there. they are assessing the damage. ktvu's tara moriarty also there on the scene and in just a couple of minutes, she's gonna tell us what alerted firefighters and if classes will be affected this morning. they are getting ready to start there. thank you for joining us for "mornings on 2." i'm pam cook in for tori campbell today. >> we're ready. >> i'm dave clark. we're also checking your weather and traffic. steve is right over there. >> 62, 74, 18 for san jose. starting off mostly clear here. low cloud deck in place, yesterday, it was just kind of

parallel to the san mateo/santa cruz coast. it really lost out to high pressure and a little bit of an offshore breeze. that's all turned around. this stum coming in from the north -- system coming in from the north picking up the fog bank. these two are making a b-line toward us. the fog is picking up in intensity. there's warm air aloft. not as warm as yesterday. 60s on many temperatures. there are 50s, especially to the north. the delta breeze 23 gusting to 26. yesterday, hardly any breeze at all. today we have a lot of fog. it's making a push over the bay. it will be cooler. not as hot as inland. breezy to windiy later on. 80s to a few 90s but 70s and 60s closer to the water. here's brian. traffic is starting to pick up this day after your labor day weekend. for many of us, it's back to work. there was a tire tread in the number one lane of the san mateo bridge. it looks like that's been cleared. you have the residual backup as

you approach the high rise into foster city. the dumbarton bridge, there is a disabled vehicle. take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. this is typical traffic that you normally see. if you have fastrack, great. that will get you through quicker. traffic backed up to the maze. i take a look at the maps. 580 from tracy into the livermore! that's solid red. the backup near the bay bridge toll plaza and then relook at the south bay. earlier accident from northbound 87 to the 280. that's been clerked but again, residual traffic. also major traffic, not too bad northbound 101 this morning. 7:03. back to the desk. all right, brian. knew this morning, healdsburg high school, damaged by an early-morning fire in the school's gym in sonoma county. ktvu's tara moriarty is joining us live now. you have cell phone video of the fire plus some new information about the investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. the fire inspectors tells us this fire was burning a good

hour before the smoke alarms were going off. and we know crews have been up there on top of the roof trying to pinpoint the cause. a retired firefighter shot cell phone video that we have here showing flames and small sparks shooting out of the roof. the smoke alarm went off at 3:00 this morning. luckily, no one was inside. officials say they were able to pounce on the fire quickly. they believe the damage could have been a lot worse without the early-detection system. >> when we arrived, we saw smoke coming out of the northeast corner of the building. and so we immediately gained access to the roof and cut a few holes to identify the area and where was the fire at. >> reporter: now, there's quite a bit of water damage inside the gym and some ceiling tiles are in danger of falling. i spoke to a school administrator who said most likely the gym will be

offlimits but classes will not. school is open. back to you. a labor day celebration came to a quick end for some people after a fire a cabin on laurel avenue. this is a popular vacation spot in sonoma county. dozens were evacuated, including a woman in her 80s. her sop was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. crews say homeowners who had cleared dry brush from their property helped them save homes and lives. >> it's surreal. i mean, you know, we prepare for this all year round. just we're in a fire zone and we prepare for it, but you never know how it will affect you until it really happens. >> the fire was under control by 6:00 last night and people were allowed to return to their homes. that calfire says it's too early to tell what caused the fire.

7:05. back to school day for students at the last napa school to reopen after the quake. the website for stone bridge says today will be a minimum day. all classes will end by 12:30 this afternoon. now, the 29 other schools in the napa valley school district, they reopened last week. most needed time too clean up, make repairs and conduct safety inspections. the red cross is offering one on one assistance to quake victims from napa and solano counties. the center opened at the napa valley mare mare reon the yesterday -- marriott yesterday. most people who showed up were looking for food and a place to stay. >> they might have first month's rent or/and deposit for rent. i think i found maybe a place to rent. >> i want to see if they might be able to help out with some groceries. >> well, both of them left

disappointed. now, she was given a voucher for a food bank that was not open yesterday. and he was told a caseworker would call him but wasn't told when that call might come. the red cross says it will keep the center open through next week. a napa pizzeria shut down has reopened in napa. the restaurant on main street reopened after being shot down for several days because fears on the roof of a neighboring building might collapse. that owner has agreed to pay for retrofitting. but the pizza shop was allowed to reopen after installing a second roof on its building. thousands of bay area apartment buildings had the open first stories might collapse in a mang hoar earthquake. that's according to the mercury news. the paper said that risked the lives of people who live in the buildings. but there's no coordinated man right now across the region to

retrofit those buildings. now, experts say most of work can be done easily with steel re-enforcement. but that costs a lot of money. san francisco and oakland have been focusing on the problem but other cities like concord, san jose and mountain view are just starting to look at that possible disaster. the fbi has joined the investigation into private nude photos of dozens of female celebrities stolen and posted online. reports have surfaced that the hackers may have used the i- cloud storage to access the photos. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us from los gatos to tell us how apple is responding. >> reporter: well, we just spoke with one apple customer who admitted to us he doesn't know how to work the settings very well and is not sure if the cloud has access to his photos. apple -- we're told apple has fixed a vulnerability in the i- cloud system. jennifer lawrence and model kate upton are among the

celebrities who had private, nude photos stolen and splashed on the internet. they are threatening legal action. apple says they privacy seriously and are investigating whether accounts have been tampered with. someone now can be locked out after five password tries. we spoke to people this morning about this latest hack. >> that bothers me a lot. i've always been nervous about what i have on my phone. any sort of information on there, that -- i don't know what else i can do about it. it's suchant important thing for me to have all of the time. >> reporter: tech experts caution deleting suggest from your phone won't delete it from the cloud service. users can turn off the settings and change your answers to your security questions and you can use an obscure password. experts say anything you want private shouldn't be anywhere near your phone or in the

cloud. reporting live from los gatos, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. colleges across the country are getting creative to help students save on textbooks. the los angeles times reports some schools are allowing students to check out textbooks from the library so that they don't have to buy them. some professors are also inviting former students to sell the books they no longer need on the first day of class. students at uc davis have developed e-textbooks for manth and science classes. the electronic books are being used by mt. diablo and sonoma state university. 7:10. early this morning, evacuations in danville. a car crashed into a house. mum in 22 minute, the -- coming up in 22 minute, the specific reason the -- coming up in 22 minutes, the specific reason the evacuation was ordered. but first, what our crewsdy covered when they got to the scene of the indonesian consulate. we fake a look at highway

welcome back to "mornings on 2." 7:13. an incident discovered at the indonesian consulate in san francisco. after hearing reports of a possible break-in at the building on columbus avenue, our crews found this broken window. there was a consulate car in the area. we have made several cars to police for more information but so far, they've not been able to confirm any break-in or vandalism. the indonesian consulate is less than two miles away from the chinese consulate intentionally set on fire back in january. a 31-year-old man surrendered five day as after that incident.

surveillance video caught him pouring gasoline on the building. he told fbi agents that he had been hearing voices that told him to set the fire. the building was damaged but no one was hurt. hundreds of union supporters marked labor day with a march in san francisco. they are calling for a.could the of the hyatt at firerman's wharf. their union says the hotel recently changed hands but they say no change for the workers struggling to unionize. the union says the housekeepers have to clean nearly twice as many rooms at other hotels. >> hotel house keeping work loads can be heavy. it's a bk-breaking job. housekeepers suffer high rates of injuries. there are reports that some demonstrators blocked the garage and guests say they had to wait as long as 20 minutes to get out. we called the hyatt's corporate office but we did not have the calls returned. well, president obama used labor day to push for a higher

national minimum wage. >> i want an economy where your hard work pays off with higher wages and higher income and fair pay for women. and workplace flexibility for parents. and affordable health insurance and decent retirement benefits. i'm not asking for the moon. i just want want a good deal for american workers. >> republicans blocked attempts to raise the minimum wage. they say that will cause layoffs. back at home, stores and restaurants in the valley fair mall in the south bay, well, they've got an unusual problem. stores on the west side of the mall, they are in santa clara while the east side, that's in san jose. and the two cities have different minimum wages. now, that difference was really noticeable two years ago when the minimum wage was $8 and san

highway 24. highway 24 approaching the beautiful caldecott tunnel this morning. traffic starting to pick up there on your way to la fayette. on the other direction there is a disabled truck eastbound, also toward the caldecott, right lane is blocked. expect delays. highway 4, the maps looking at highway 4 again. highway 4 in the pittsburg/baypoint area, traffic starting to pick up on the bailey ramp. if you see traffic backed up, 680 southbound from concord into walnut creek after that. and then interstate 80 south of hercules, a minor accident but obviously major delays from hercules all the way down to richmond. taking a look at the 280/880 split. traffic starting to pick up there. here's steve. >> where is my check, brian? >> did you say anything nice?

[laughter] >> thank you for the vote of confidence. i will be right because there's a lot of fog out there. 59, 64, 68 on san francisco. that's down from 6 yesterday when they were 74. oakland, 62 to start. 68, 73. yesterday was 85. there was no fog over oakland yesterday. there is a bunch over it today. you can see it for yourself. why is this happening? there's two systems, one was still out there yesterday. but it needed a little help and it's coming in from this one. and that's the remains of the low of what was category 5 hurricane marie. still kind of floating around. that low will latch on. as it does, it will sweep in --

welcome back to "mornings on 2." happening right now near dallas, texas, these are live pictures you are looking at. texas police are investigating a school bus crash. it happened just a couple of hours ago. this is in boyce, texas. south of dallas. 19 children were on the bus you are looking at. police say the bus driver veered toward the median. he overcorrected. the bus flipped over. again, 19 kids were on the bus. at least 12 of them were hurt. now, the investigators are there. you can see the bus is right side up right now. we're told none of the injuries are life-threatening. but we'll keep an eye on the situation in boyce, texas. 7:23. three americans detained now in north korea are pleading with the u.s. government to get them free. >> i do ask the u.s. government

to send someone as soon as possible. i think that's the only hope that i have right now in order for me to go home be united with my family. >> that was kenneth bae. he's been held in north korea for almost two years. he was sentenced to 15 years hard labor for what the north korean government said was a christian plot to overthrow the government. the two other captives also are asking the u.s. government for help. >> the american government is known for having a strong policy of protecting citizens. for my case, there's still no movement. >> this is an opportunity for maybe bill clinton to come back and -- he had -- he released a couple of journalists a few years back. maybe joenkths bush can try his hand at that. >> now, political analysts say by allowing us to see the interviews, the north korean government is angling for a high-profile envoy to come to nuclear like bill clinton did

in 2009. david cameron is calling for a crackdown on british citizens who support isis and other extremist groups. in a statement to parliament, the prime minister proposed a new law that would stop british sit stens from traveling to support isis. another proposal would give police the power to seize the passports of suspected terrorists at borders. >> those people who declare allegiance somewhere else are able to return to the united kingdom and pose a theft to us. >> british authorities estimate 500 have joined islamic terror groups. a man with a british accent is the one who carried out the execution on james foley. for the third time in a week, a flight was deverted because passengers were flighting over leg room. the flight made an unplanned stop in jacksonville. one passenger said a woman tried to put her seat back which angered the woman behind her who was trying to sleep on

her tray table. >> this woman who is sitting next to me knitting, just tried reclining her seat back. she started to scream and swear. she said, i don't care about the consequences, put this plane down now. >> when the plane landed, the woman was escorted by off police. last night, a united flight was forced to divert when passengers fought over a device that blocks the seat from reclining. 7:26 is the time. a man still missing this morning after going for a swim in marin county. the dangerous conditions out on the water that's even catching some lifeguards by surprise. and an out-of-control car slams into a home in danville triggering a gas leak and evacuations in this area. we'll tell you what we've just learned about the driver who was arrested. and traffic starting to pick up now in most of the

extra curricular activities help provide a sense of identity and a path to success. joining the soccer team. getting help with math. going to prom. i want to learn to swim. it's hard to feel normal, when you can't do the normal things. to help, sleep train is collecting donations for the extra activities that, for most kids, are a normal part of growing up. not everyone can be a foster parent... but anyone can help a foster child.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." we're following a number of big stories this morning including people back in their homes in danville. there was a problem out there with a gas leak. we're gonna check in with alex savidge out there. that's one of the stories we're following. thank you for joining us. it's tuesday, september 2nd. i'm pam cook in for tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. steve paulson knows -- i ducked outside. you were right. it's cooler this morning. >> it better be. yesterday was warm. we have a lot of fog that's come screaming back to the coast. two lows is latching onto this low. these two will give us a cooldown and also some mostly cloudy skies. today it's more fog than anything else. there will be high and mid- level clouds coming in. 50s and 60s on the temperatures. palo alto, 57 menlo park is 56. belmont and also los altos hills. 52 up at la honda. 17, 26 at fairfield and more of

a westerly component for most here. the gray is back. it looks like it's not going anywhere for a couple of days. fog, sun, cooler. it won't be as hot inland. i promise you. 80s to very low 90s. 7 -- 70s for many. traffic is starting to pick up at 7:31. want to take a look at highway 4. traffic is starting to pick up there as you approach the willow pass grade. but eastbound highway 4 exiting the alhambra avenue exit near martinez, signal problem there. so the offramp will be affected. you can expect delays. taking a look at the maps now, chp says an accident on southbound 101 after alameda del prado, that's affecting traffic. take a look at the bay bridge tacoma, traffic okay but traffic -- bay bridge toll plaza, traffic okay but traffic backed up to the maze. on the dumbarton, there was a stalled vehicle on the right lane near the toll plaza.

you can expect delays there. also a cargo spill crossed on i- 80 westbound just after highway 12 in vallejo. we'll be keeping an eye on that. a man is still missing this morning after going for a swim with his family during a labor day outing in marin county. claudine wong joins us now from san francisco with a warning about the dangerous water conditions up and down the coast that's catching lifeguard by surprise. >> reporter: it certainly was a very dangerous day yesterday. take a look at conditions right now at crissy field. things are pretty calm. we did talk to the coast guard about the possibility of them resuming the search. right now the conditions of the water are too low for them to do it. we're checking with the park service to see if they will be starting something soon. there were problems across the bay area yesterday. let me show you the scene in san francisco at ocean beach because that is where a boogie

boarder drifted out to sea. lifeguards went out to help and got into some trouble, too. >> i just went in to go see if i could find him. so -- but apparently, he was rescued by a surfer un beknownst. we just went out there to make sure. >> reporter: he got back and so did the boogie boarder. officials say a second one was a false alarm. now, let's talk about what happened in marin county. that happened early afternoon near drake's along the point reyes national seashore. a young man was with his family. they tried to cross water that's estimated between a half- mile, three quarters of a mile long. during the swim, he went missing. the coast guard was called. they searched until 8:00 last night but could not find him.

we just talked to the coast guard they said that area of water that the family tried to cross is too low for them to go in. they do not have plans to resume the search. we're checking with the national parks service to see if they will be going out there looking for this missing swimmer. live here in san francisco, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. santa cruz county a woman died after getting caught in a rip current. witnesses say they saw the 38- year-old woman struggling in the current at sunset beach about 10:00 yesterday morning. a good samaritan pulled her out of the water. the woman was given medical aid but later died at the hospital. now, she was swimming near a lifeguard tower but it was closed and not due to be staffed until later in the morning. >> one person was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car in milpitas. that happened after 9:00 last night on park victoria drive. police say the person hit was not in a crosswalk. the person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and police say the driver of the car did stop and is cooperating with the investigation. he has not been cited.

7:34. in pittsburg, one family is asking the public to help them search for a driver who left the scene of a deadly crash. 50-year-old michelle braz was killed sunday night on willow pass road near mountain view avenue when a driver jumped a curb and hit her on the sidewalk. police say that driver also hit a light pole and dragged the pole for two blocks before driving off from the scene of that crash. the husband of miss braz is asking witnesses to come forward. he describes his wife as being devoted to their family and she loved animals. >> she would help anyone. she wanted to be a veterinarian to help pets and animals. i guess she won't get that chance now. >> police are searching for a late-model silver chevy truck. it has a side step that may have been damaged in the crash. if you have any information, call pittsburg police. amtrak service has resumed this morning in oakland but that's after a deadly crash between a train and a minivan. it happened just after 10:00 last night on the tracks at

high street. the driver of the minivan was killed but he was the only one in that car. 219 people were on the train at the time of the crash. they were not hurt. firefighters say the train's conductor and crew were visibly shaken. >> they are very upset. this is hard on them. brought the train to a stop as soon as they could and started to make notifications. >> passengers had to wait for hours before train service resumed. the train was on amtrak's coast starlight route that runs between los angeles and seattle. how about good news? if you drive between the peninsula and san francisco, northbound 280, between the 101 interchange and the south of market neighborhood, it's open again. in fact, it reopened ahead of schedule. the road was closed over the holiday weekend. the drivers were allowed back on the road about 9:30 last night. seven hours early. caltrans says the crews worked around the clock to replace two hinges that will allow the road

to absorb movement if there is an earthquake. >> they had been here since 1966, when they built this structure and they just were showing signs of wear and tear. >> caltrans says the safety improvements were in the works before that magnitude 6.0 quake in napa. but they said it's a reminder of the damage that can be caused by a big earthquake. now, the crews that are working to tear down the old bay bridge, they've hit an unusual roadblock. bird out there that call the bridge home. caltrans has spent more than $700,000 building nesting platforms on the new bridge. now the birds are refusing to budge. that could put demolition work behind schedule if the bird don't move by the end of the year. old eastern span of the bay bridge is home to 500 pairs of other bird.

a potentially explosive situation in danville. alex savidge is on midland way with more on. >> reporter: good morning. danville police just confirmed to me that it was a suspected drunk driver who hit this house early this morning and triggered this gas leak. the gas was flowing for about three hours this morning and there was a huge concern about a fire out here. pg&e still doing some repair work. they had to dig a hole here in the front yard of this home to be able to access the valve and shut off the gas whi they did earlier -- which they did earlier. this was all caused by a driver who plowed into this home on midland way before 1:00 and took out the main gas meter. the driver was not hurt but this 1-inch line was spewing gas and six nearby homes had to be evacuated as a precaution. that was about 15 people forced to leave the area. the people who live in this house where the crash happened say the car took out part of their fence before hitting the gas meeter. >> all i could here was the gas

spewing and all i could think of was evacuating. at that point, i tried to open up the car door to see who this person was and this car door was locked. somehow he came out of the door. >> reporter: and danville police did tell me that the 18- year-old driver involved in the crash was arrested on fission of dui -- on suspicion of dui. police say that teen lives here in danville. but the good news for neighbors, this leaking gas line has been taken care of. repair work being done by pg&e. all of the folks evacuated they have been allowed back in their homes. we're live in danville, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. happening today, the rainbow honor walk will be unveiled in san francisco's castro neighborhood. the walk is made up of a series of plaques celebrating the achievements of lgbt individuals throughout history such as christine joergenson.

>> we want people to know when they look down and see the face of keith or randy or alan, the father of modern commuting, that piece people were openly gay and proud and that this community. castro, was a part of that important history. >> a dedication ceremony for 20 plaques will take place at 11:00 this morning. they will be installed at several locations from castro street near harvey milk plaza to 19th street. a scary investigation into a program used by many smartphone users. how the i-cloud is being blamed for leaking dozens of private celebrity photos and the changes apple is putting into place. also some raider fans on twitter pushing for the team to start the car. now they are getting their wish. why the raiders have tapped their car to do what no other nfl rookie quarterback will do on sunday. traffic starting to pick up on most of the roadways. we're keeping an eye on things

the alameda county health department is preparing for its biggest flu vaccine program that will target 60,000 oakland elementary school students with free vaccines offered at 130 schools beginning october 1st. now, 90% of the vaccines will be nasal spray. all parents have to do is sign a consent form to get the free vaccine for their kids. the health department says it is focusing on oakland schools first because many children don't have access to healthcare. this morning, we are gating a look at some cell phone video taken by airline passengers after a sudden change in cabin pressure on an aan alee jint airlines flight. clark said he was shocked to see the mark drop down from the ceiling about two hours into

san mateo bridge as well as the dumb bar tone bridge. there was an accident earlier. that's pretty much solid as well. taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning. traffic is pretty typical from the maze. 20, 25 minutes to get you across the span. taking a look at the sunol grade, traffic moving nicely. but just north of here near 580 and dublin traffic is backed up as typically you would see. 8:01. back to the desk. all right, brian. more than a dozen people in danville are back home after being forced to evacuate early in morning because of a gas leak. now, just before 1:00, an out- of-control car slammed into a house on midland way and broke a 1-inch gas main. the 18-year-old driver was not hurt but he was arrested for dui. now, firefighters rushed over there. they say that car hit the gas line above the meter and they weren't able to get to it. six homes near that house, they had to be evacuated. now, pg&e had to dig a hole

into the street to find the damage line and to stop that leak. once that was done, the firefighters tested the gas levels in the neighbors homes. they were payable to determine -- able to determine was safe for the people to go back inside their homes. an early-morning fire damaged the gym at healdsburg high school in sonoma county. ktvu's tara moriarty has more on that and cell phone video of the fire. what investigators are saying about it this morning. tara? >> reporter: well, the fire inspectors actually says this fire was burning for at least an hour before the alarm sounded. if you take a look behind me. you can see exactly the area that we're talking about right there. that light we understand there is a short in that electrical wiring which inspectors believe started this fire. you can see crews still up there. they are surveying the damage. they had to poke holes in the roof to make sure this fire didn't spread. a retired firefighter shot cell phone video shows flames and small sparks shooting out of the gym this morning.

the smoke alarm went off just before 3:00, luckily no one was inside the gym. official says there were able to pounce on this fire quickly and they believe that the damage could have been much worse without the early- detection system. >> it appears that it was caused by an electrical short somewhere up in the lighting system on the top of the building. nothing suspicious. these things happen in older buildings. fortunately, the fire department got here very fast and put the fire out and we now have the building cordoned off. >> reporter: there's quite a bit of water damage and ceiling tiles are in danger of falling. so the idea main straighter said no one will be -- administrator said no one will be allowed in the gym until they can do a recess. they are in the process of remodding these buildings. they don't have an estimate as to when the gym will be opened up for business. as far as school goes, classes are in session. we're live in healdsburg, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. a labor day celebration came to a quick end for some people after a fire near the

russian river in forette ville. it start -- in forestville. it happened on lauren avenue and summer camp road. this is a very popular vacation spot. it was pretty crowded. dozens of people were evacuated. including a woman in her 80s. the home she and her son live in was the only home destroyed. the son was take taken to the -- taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. >> it's surreal. i mean, you know, we prepare for this all year round. we're in a fire zone. we prepare for this but, you know, you never know how it's gonna affect you until it really happens. >> reporter: the fire was under control by 6:00 last night and people were allowed to return to their homes. calfire says it's too early to tell what caused the fire. the ntsb is releasing new information about the deadly crash of a small plane near novato. ntsb investigators say the

pilot who was killed may have believed he had regained partial engine power before the crash last month. the pilot of readwood city was heading from oregon to san core lows when this happened. final results from investigators are not expected for a few more months. today's back-to-school day for students at the last napa school to reopen after the quake. the website for stonebridge charter school said today will be a minimum day. classes will wrap up by 12:30 this afternoon. the 29 other schools in the napa valley school district they reopened last week. most needed time to clean up, make repairs and pass safety inspections. the red cross says it's offering one-to-one help for quick victims from napa and solano counties. the center opened yesterday at the napa valley marriott.

expensive. san francisco and oakland have focused on the problem but other cities including concord, san jose and mountain view are just starting to look at the potential disaster. schools and hospitals statewide will get a notice when pg&e is working on their natural gas pipeline. the examiner reports governor brown signed new legislation requiring three days' notice of nonemergency work within 500 feet of schools or hospitals. officials say this would give staff members an aheart for unusual -- alert for smells or sounds so they can respond faster to an emergency. the measure is the result of the deadly pipeline explosion in san bruno. the fbi and apple, both are actively investigating after private, nude photos of dozens of female celebrities were stolen and posted online. and there are reports the hacker may have used apple's i- cloud technology to get those photos. ktvu's janine de la vega is live to tell us how apple is

welcome back to "mornings on 2." it's now 8:13. an incident discovered at the indonesian consulate in san francisco after hearing reports of a possible break-in at the building on columbus avenue, our crews found this broken window. there was also a consulate car in the area. we've made several cars to police for more information but so far, they've not been able to confirm or deny any break-in or vandalism. the indonesian consulate is less than two miles away from the chinese consulate that was intentionally set on fire in

january. 39-year-old yan feng surrendered five days after that incident. surveillance video caught him pouring two gallons of gasoline on the building. he told fbi agents he had been hearing voices that told him to set the fire. the building was damaged. no one was hurt. a 7-year-old boy suffered an injury while target shooting. he was using a rifle on saturday at his family's home when he began complaining of chest pains. his father noticed a hole in the boy's shirt where he was bleeding and called 911. deputies say a preliminary investigation showpieces of a bullet hit the boy, possibly from a ricochet. he was airlifted to a hospital in sacramento. deputies say the by is from the bay area. they are not releasing the exact city where he comes from. now this latest incident in california continues to fuel the debate over gun control. you might remember that just last week, a 9-year-old girl shot and killed her instructor while he was trying to teach

look at the bay bridge toll plaza, this morning, typical traffic as you could see backed up to the maze. still 20, 25 minutes to get you across the span. back to the desk. >> all right, brian. you this mo morning an -- new this morning, an 18-year- old man facing dui charges after a car crashed into a danville house this morning and broke a gas main. alex savidge is in danville with more on -- this could have been an explosive situation. good morning. >> reporter: it certainly could have been bad. firefighters were worried about a fire. but thankfully the situation is under control. danville police say it was a suspected drunk driver who slammed his car into the front of this home right -- hitting the gas meter. that's what twiggerred this early-morning gas leak. it took about three hours to stop the flow of natural gas. that's because crews had to dig the hole in the front yard to access the valve and shut off the gas. this is what the scene looked like. the teen driver behind the wheel plowed into this home on

midland way. the 18-year-old was not seriously hurt in the crash. with the 1-inch gas line spewing gas. six homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution about 15 people were forced to leave the area for a time. people who live at this house where the crash happened say the car took out part of their fence before hitting the gas meter. >> all i could hear was the gas spewing and all i could think of was opening up this car door to see who the person was. the car door was locked. somehow he came out the door. >> reporter: danville police tell me the 18-year-old driver involved in this crash was arrested here at the scene on suspicion of dui. police tell us that teenager lives here in danville. in fanth, not far away from here. the good news for neighbors, this gas leak has been capped. fn who had been force -- everybody who had been forced out of their homes because of the gas spewing in the air they are back home. we're live in danville, alex

savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. well, family members are asking for. public's help in the search for a driver who left the scene of a deadly crash in pittsburg. 50-year-old michelle braz was killed sunday night on willow pass road near mountain view avenue when a driver jumped the curb and hit her on the sidewalk. police say the driver also hit a light pole and dragged it for two blocks before taking off from the scene of the crash. braz's husband is asking any witnesses to come forward. he said his wife was devoted to their family and loved animals. >> she would help anyone. she wanted to be a veterinarian so she could help pets. i guess we won't get the chance now. >> police are looking for a late model silver chevy truck with a side step. it may have damage from the crash. anyone with information is asked to contact pittsburg police. well, there is an update to a developing story we've been following near point reyes. that's where a man went missing following a labor day outing

with his family. claudine wong is in san francisco now with some new details that just surfaced minutes ago. claudine? >> reporter: well, good morning. we are talking to the coast guard. we've been talking to the park service about possible searches because there is a missing swimmer. we're at four point where you can see the surf crash up on the rocks here. it was a dangerous day in the water across the bay area. want to show you the scene in san francisco yesterday at ocean beach. that's where a boogie boarder drifted out to see. a lifeguard went out to help and got into trouble. he did make it back to shore but first responders say it's a reminder about how dangerous the waters can be. >> don't get in the water. this was considered one of the most dangerous beaches in the world at one time. enjoy the beach, enjoy the sun. stay out of the water. >> reporter: there are reports of a second swimmer in trouble. that brought out the coast guard and other units but officials say that was a false

alarm. let's focus on marin county because that incident happened early in the afternoon. it's still ongoing. it was near inverness along the point reyes national seashore. a young man was with his family. they tried to cross a mile, three quarters mile long, but during the swim, the young man went missing. the coast guard started to search after 2:00 and called the search off at 8:00 last night. we talked to them this morning, they say that area is too shallow for them to go back into it. they are not searching. we've not heard back from the parks department about whether they will start a search. tara moriarty heard from mill valley firefighters who might be out there diving and so there is at this point, appears to be some sort of search for the missing swimmer who has not been seen since yesterday afternoon. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> well, in santa cruz county a woman died after getting caught in a rip current. witnesses say they saw the 38- year-old woman struggling in

the current at sunset state beach. it was about 10:00 yesterday morning. a good samaritan pulled her out of the water, the woman was given medical aid but unfortunately later died at the hospital. the women was swimming near a lifeguard tower but it was closed and not due to the staffed until later in the morning. a smoke advisory caused by a big wildfire in northern california. it's stretching all the way here to the bay area. firefighters are trying to put out two wildfires threatening hundreds of homes the klamath national forest near happy camp. so far the fires sparked by lightning have burned more than 64,000 acres. 700 homes have in jeopardy. 250 are under a mandatory evacuation order. warmer weather could hurt the firefighting efforts. back here at home, yam track service has resumed after a deadly crash between a train and a minivan. it happened just after 10:00 last night.

the driverrest minivan -- driver of the minivan was killed. passengers were on the yam track train and they were not hurt. firefighters say the train's conductor and the crew were visibly upset. >> very upset. this is hard on them. they brought the train to a stop as soon as they could. started to mang notifications and secure -- started to make notifications and secure the area. the train was on amtrak's cart starlight -- coast starlight route. there's good news for commuters heading from the peninsula into san francisco. northbound 280 between the 101 interchange and the south of market neighborhood has reopened ahead of schedule. that roadway was closed over the holiday weekend. drivers were allowed back onto the road about 9:30 last night. seven hours earlier than expected. caltrans says crews worked around the clock to replace two hinges that will allow the road to better absorb movement in the event of an earthquake.

welcome back. an 18-year-old man facing dui charges in danville, his car crashed into a house early this morning and ruptured a gas main. this happened just before 1:00 this morning on midland way. police say the car veered off the road, hit the house, and the gas main. six homes nearby had to be evacuated until pg&e crews came out there and turned off the gas main. people were able to go back into their homes about 4:30 this morning. healdsburg high school in sonoma county will be open today despite an early-morning fire in the school's gym. it caused some water damage there. the fire started at about 3:00 this morning. firefighters think it was caused by an electrical problem. and the ntsb is now releasing new information about

the deadly plane crash, a small plane near novato. ntsb investigators say the pilot who was killed may have thought he regained partial engine power before the plane crashed last month. that pilot, robert madge of readwood city, was heading from brookings, oregon to san carlos when his plane went down. stolen nude photos of dozens of selects that surfaced over the weekend are raising questions about the security of photos stored on your phone or computer. the fbi and apple are investigating. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us now from los gatos to talk about apple's response and how customers feel about this. >> reporter: pam, several people didn't know whether the photos they took on their iphone were stored in the cloud. they can be depending upon your settings. one tech expert says apple has changed the security on its i- cloud system because of this latest hack. academy winning actress

welcome back to "mornings on 2." it is 8:53. this morning, we're getting a look at cell phone video taken by passengers after a sudden change in cabin pressure on an alee juent airlines flight. you can see this passenger struggling to breathe into the oxygen mask. the man was heading from michigan to orlando, florida. >> my chest locked up a little bit. the thing dropped from the ceiling. >> now, the plane was diverted to south carolina, it landed safely sunday night. the airlines has offered passengers refunds along with travel vouchers. it did cover their hotel costs. >> when the nfl regular season begins, the oakland raiders will be the only nfl team to start a rookie quarterback. dennis allen announced yesterday that derek carr, the raiders second round draft pick out of fresno state will start

on sunday. he was picked over matt schaub who is still recovering from an el bowl injury. last year, carr threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns during his preseason start. we may find out if ray mcdonald will play in the season opener for the 49ers after his arrest for domestic violence. so far, neither the team, coach harbaugh or mcdonald has said anything about whether mcdonald will play. he was booked early sunday morning. he's accused of assaulting his pregnant fiance. now, this comes days after the nfl announced a strict, zero- tolerance policy for domestic violence. >> that's the shocking part of it is this person knew and he had to know of the policy and still he did what he did or allegedly did what he did. that's dangerous. >> now, some domestic violence advocates hope mcdonald will be suspended until the case is
