you can see the plywood, they're starting to close up a gaping hole. mr.and mrs. ortega, five-year- old daughter and infant son live at this home. the mother had just wrapped up a play date when the transit bus came through the home. we're at 18th and burbeck. the homeowner was just feet away meeting with reps. while the ortega's worked on getting a place to stay, their friend sat next to them comforting their baby boy. >> some people were bleeding and they were rushed to the hospital. >> reporter: police say the driver of a stolen red honda caused the accident at 6:18 this evening. >> he was in a stolen vehicle. he saw one of our officers

moments prior. >> reporter: witnesses say the red honda then ran a red light. ramming the oncoming bus. >> the bus driver i guess lost control and crashed into the home. >> reporter: the driver fled the scene. but his passenger a juvenile is in custody. >> the driver of the vehicle is still outstanding, we do believe we have him identified though. >> reporter: there were no major injuries. but witnesses tell me that some of the passengers on the bus were covered in blood when they got off including two children who were on board. this accident involves also a gas leak and an evacuation. we're told that p g & e has pulled the service line out of this house until more repairs can be done. the family tells me that they're going to stay in a hotel for the foreseeable future. mr.or -- ortega is overseeing

what is happening, they need to grab a few more things because they don't know when they'll be back. a group of protesters gathered to protest what they call the militarization of local police forces. the protesters blocked traffic on broad way and tenth near the convention center where the alameda county sheriff is hosting the urban shield training. but the urban shield training is valuable for everyone. >> there's people who want to do harm to us and to the citizens and for that we have to be properly equipped and properly trained. >> at one point it's estimated there were 300 protesters and oakland police say the event was peaceful and that officers did not make any arrests?

and now to the latest of a five alarm fire that burned a store. fire officials say this building is in danger of collapse. debora villalon is live will now, and we learned the tear down as early as tomorrow is going to serve two purposes. >> reporter: eliminate the hazard and get at the fire's cause. today it is still a huge mess here. the merchandise all over the street. but we're seeing heavy equipment now starting to arrive. and in this condemned building some people see opportunity. >> i actually was here. >> reporter: a once crowded store is now drawing a crowd. >> a lot of people depended on this. smaller prices, better deals. >> reporter: but among those eyeballing the mess. >> i like the location and the lot. >> reporter: people in real

city of mariposa. authorities have ordered 17 communities from their homes. the fire started before 1:00 this afternoon and has burned 300 acres. calfire is using helicopter and this big dc10 air tanker to drop retardant. no word on low the fire started. on the golden gate bridge it was a real case of a deer caught in the head lights during the evening commute. some tourists visiting the bay area sent us this video. you can see the two deer trotting right there on the bridge and right past a lot of stunned drivers. they were spotted right before 8:00 this evening after they trotted on to the bridge. the chp was called out but they tell us the turned around themselves and got off the bridge. and the university east bay has compromised the name, addresses and social security numbers of 300 people. the breach happened more than a year ago but was only

discovered last month by the tech security. no financial, academic and there have been no reports. the new security measures being implemented after some celebrity accounts were compromised. to shoot or not to shoot, it's a split second decision for police and it can be the decision between life and death. but now police are learning about the development that could make it more difficult. police had confiscated guns that had all been altered to look like toy guns. >> probably 30 seconds you could shoot 100 rounds through this gun. >> the troubling part of this is the orange plastic cap. >> reporter: when fully

assembled they can be dangerous weapons. >> we know that an orange tip indicates this is not real when in fact, it is. >> reporter: police arrested three men they say were also connected to an illegal grow house near by. >> i don't believe there's such a thing that exists in this neighborhood. >> a true criminal that wants to make this gun look fake so they can hesitate. >> the officers are going to have to shoot to protect their own lives or to protect someone else. regardless of if it has the plastic tip on it. >> reporter: some california lawmakers are trying to change the color of the guns to make them bright colors to keep from

mistaking them. if these real guns are used on police, even the slightest hesitation can be deadly. we called several other bay area law enforcement agencies to see if they've uncovered any of these real guns made to look fake, and they say so far they have not and they hope it stays that way. a film crew is regrouping after they say three men robbed them. the american happened to be filming and captured audio. the crew was filming for this lgbt film. the director of the show says the incident is unfortunate because it goes against the

message of their film. >> it's really unfortunate because we are like our series is about showcasing oakland and how beautiful the city is. >> we're told the men stole the camera and some of the crews personal belongings. but the men left behind crucial evidence, like some sound on a sound board. the depew deputies say they could see scene smell marijuana being grown in the home. and inside they found marijuana that was at the reach of children that live there. including muffins, popcorn and beef jerky. two people were arrested. san francisco 49er head coach jim harbaugh says ray mcdonald will be on the field this sunday for the season opener in dallas. mcdonald was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence last sunday. today harbaugh said the way the

new at 10:00, the search for answers five years after a teenager was shot and killed. her name was des era e davis and her killing remains unsolved. this sunday marks five painful years for her family. ktvu's amber lee talked to them tonight about the loss that still haunts them. >> reporter: they hope a public plea will bring those responsible to justice. >> she was very outgoing. she had an attitude sometimes but that was just her spirit. >> reporter: davis is talking about her younger sister des era e. just 17 years old a girl with a big smile and big dreams. she wanted to be a veterinarian. that dream was never fulfilled

on september 7, 2009des era e was celebrating labor day with friends in north oakland when a man got out of a car and started shooting. des era died at the scene, police say she was an innocent bystander. >> i remember it vividly. i just try not to talk about it at all. >> reporter: friend ariana farr was with des era e that fateful evening. >> it hurts. i think about it all the time. she did not deserve it. >> reporter: her family of three, des era seen here in the middle between her mom and sister had left new orleans for california after losing everything in hurricane katrina. kaisha says the loss of her sister is unbearable. >> it had always been me my mom and my sister. to hear that and to know that that's what the reality became. >> reporter: a new reality where the family has yet to find justice for des era. the case remains unsolved. >> we're going to continue to

follow leads. we're going to continue to revisit and talk with witnesses. >> we've been through so much and we still you know there's no answers. there's no closure, there's nothing. there's no acceptance. >> reporter: sunday marks five years since des era was killed. on monday her family plans to meet with oakland police and make a public plea for witnesss to come forward to help solve this case, frank, gasia. >> i can't imagine what they're going through. let's hope someone comes forward with information. thanks amber. >> thank you, amber. a small plane has crashed off the coast of jamaica after flying for hours without responding. two f15 fighting planes were scrambled. the plane continued over cuba

the state senator wants to change state law so all of pg & e's fine goes toward safety improvements. this week state regulators recommended that pg & e pay a 4 4 billion into a fund. but senator hill says all the money should be used for

business. san jose organics operating out of a small shopping center on tolly road. some neighbors have complained they're still open the store is inspite of strict regulation that is have forced others to close. the owner of san jose organics tell us they will keep operating until the city forces them to close and the owner figures it will take some time before the city does that. the west contra costa school district is reaching out to parents after a 17-year-old student was arrested for selling baked goods laced with marijuana on campus. officials at deanza high school say they have a zero tolerance for drugs on campus and tonight they sent a letter out to parents explaining what happened. the 17-year-old female was arrested yesterday for selling pot laced cookies and brownnies. several students ended up getting sick. school resource officers had to resuscitate one student. two others were taken to a hospital for treatment. but have since been released. the suspect was taken to juvenile hall in martinez. the third american missionary is now being treated

new information tonight about a body found burned on the side of the road last week. detectives say they've identified the body of julie culochi. according to the family she was the mother of four children. invest -- investigators are still looking for any cars or persons

that were seen at the location. today ktvu found people posting photos and condolences on facebook about their friends. a santa clara county sheriff deputy was recovering from injuries after she was attacked. the unidentified deputy was in an alley behind a restaurant talking to someone and was jumped by three men. it happened between midnight and 1:00 a.m. but the assault wasn't reported until 4:00 a.m. a family member says the deputy suffered injuries to his face. there are surveillance cameras in the alley but none of them picked up the incident. and the attackers are still on the lose. we're learning more about an incident at a museum.

she poured alcohol on a cotton ball that had been dusted with boric acid. the alcohol should have gone on first. a spokeswoman for a examiner says an autopsy has been completed on joan rivers but that more studies are needed to determine cause of death. rivers died yesterday. it was one week after she stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest during what was supposed to be a routine throat procedure. planning is now under way for a sunday funeral service. part of a freeway in the east bay was dedicated today to a highway patrol officer who was killed in the line of duty. >> the wife and four children of officer canyon youngstrom attended the memorial of a highway sign. two years ago the officer was

san francisco's yelp won a big court victory. yelp, offers reviews to help people decide where to get their car worked on or where to get something to eat. ktvu's katie utehs says alteredded reviews can mean a bad rating and hurt business. >> i use it just about every day. >> reporter: todd and his coworkers rely on yelp. >> if a company has a poor yelp rating i typically will steer away. >> reporter: berkeley upholster says that it's yelp's way or no way. >> these are very, very custom things. just fits perfectly for the client. >> reporter: he claims his yelp ratings suffers because he doesn't advertise with the company. two bad reviews and 25 positive

check the most recent update from the hurricane center now a category two with winds of 110 miles per hour. here's a satellite perspective if you can see the system to the north and to the west of cabo san lucas. also put on the projected rainfall. they are expecting some rain showers in southern california sometimes sunday and into monday. all this energy as far as the swell will be focused down toward southern california. the bay area picks up some south well. mainly not from this system but activity in the last few days. just keep that in mind if you're headed to the coastline. also today, you probably notice haze up there especially in the north bay. all those fires burning up in northern california especially the happy campfire. that smog drifting in with that northwesterly flow. we can have a bit of that haze especially in the northern half of the bay area. in addition to that we still have the low clouds and fog hugging the coastline out there. coastline out toward ocean

beach. here is a look at our forecast for tonight. partly cloudy skies, here's our live camera looking toward the bay bridge. not much in the way of dense fog. but scattered clouds. and of course we are talking about some football as well. cal playing sacramento state tomorrow afternoon at 12:00. some patchy fog at kick off. temperatures will be in the upper 60s and usc visiting stanford at 12:30 partly sunny skies. temperatures will be in the 70s. a little warming trend showing up. for tonight over the next few hours low clouds will fill into the bay. some patchy drizzle first thing tomorrow morning and possibly into sunday morning as well. there's a weather system out here to north that will basically cap our temperatures. no rainfall expected with exception of drizzle out there. mild to warm but no major heat in the forecast. and the beaches only in the 60s for afternoon highs. look where the clouds are
