some fog is there. it's not making a push. we had a robust fog bank. even hayward airport is in the upper 50s. a little bit of an offshore at hayward. a little bit of an east wind utmost. there will be some over by the the coast. warm to hot inlapped. here is sal. steve, we are looking at a commute that is getting much busier around the bay as we go to the east shore freeway it is busier but the rack has evened out and i still don't have a

huge delay as you drive through on 80 westbound. as a matter of fact, only 18 minutes. that is about where we started yesterday when we went on the air at 4:30. the traffic continues to be a little slow in the area. speaking of slow traffic, westbound 580 is very slow. we had an earlier accident. the accident is on to the shoulder. traffic does slow though because people like to look at things on the freeway. it's a rubber necker back up. 680 still looks good heading south. let's go back to the desk. topping our news at 6:00 the city of san jose is trying something new to block access to some of the homeless camps. >> reporter: we are right above the jungle. i want to show you the large

rocks that have been brought into this dirt lot. you can see they line the border and then they end like here. you can see they are going to be lining them up around here. again that is where they are expected to be. the pictures though that we are going to now provided by a viewer. shows the large rocks. workers have been moving them into place. hundreds of homeless people live in the area down below near the creek. there have been numerous cleanups there in the jungle over the years to attempt to get the homeless to leave but they have always come back. the cleanups have proved to be costly. city officials say they have told us they'd like to clean up

the jungle by the end of the year and working on long term solutions to get into housing. it continues to be a challenge because there is not enough affordable housing. a lot of the people are still working here. but as people wake up, we do plan on talking to them here. again there is worry that they say they may have to move out. demolition crews are tearing down an abandoned building. city leaders say it had become a health and safety hazard after squatters started several fires. even though the building had been bordered up, about 40 squatters were living will. happening today president obama will speak to the nation about combating islamic state militants.

morning. they were knee deep in the lake clearing nonnative plants. that is when they noticed the body faced down in the water covered by weeds. >> what do you see? he goes is it a snake? and they looked surprise and shook their heads. and they go it can't be real. >> it appears the body had been there for quite some time. they are trying to figure out the body was of a man or woman. hayward police searching for an arsonist that set fire to two vacant businesses in a strip mall. the latest happened yesterday morning. police say someone set a gas can on fire near the front door of the business. just over 24 hours earlier, someone kicked in the window of a nearby vacant business at 413 industrial parkway. they threw a container of alcohol inside. more than $1,000 damage has been reported.

a federal judge has rejected another attempt to keep drakes bay oyster farm open. they filed a lawsuit arguing the farms closure would hurt the local economy. a judge yesterday said the arguments were the same as those made by drakes bay owner. the government refused to renew drakes bay lease because of environmental concerns. time is 6:08. coming ups at 6:30 the police continue their search for suspects. >> you may have noticed bart tapes are more crowded lately. we'll tell you about the ridership figures. >> and we're looking at bay area bridges and causeways. certainly noticing more slow traffic here onth san mateo bridge it still looks good over to the peninsula. >> it doesn't take long to

a bart spokesman says that person was on the tracks and landed back on to the platform after the train hit him. the person survived but suffered major head injuries and rushed to the hospital. bart police still investigating whether this was an attempted suicide or if someone fell on to the tracks. bart riders may feel a bit crowded on trains these days. ridership is going up but the number of cars have not. alex savidge is live at the walnut creek bart station this morning telling us about some of the complaints passengers are making. good morning, alex. >> reporter: dave, good morning to you. passengers don't have a whole lot of elbow room. a lot more people are using bart and there are a lot more trains out of service on a regular basis. according to the san francisco chronicle, bart saw a huge jump in ridership in august. 27,000 more passengers compared to the same month a year earlier. at the same time more than 100 bart cars are out of service for things like maintenance and upgrades. those improvements to the cars

include new carpets, seats, and air conditioning systems. what that means is that what was a ten car train yesterday could be a nine car train today as they pull one of the cars out of service. one man told me it's getting more and more difficult to find a seat. >> bart officials do expect ridership will go up over the next couple of months. as for the shortage of cars they won't boost their seats until they get new trains that is expected to begin arriving in 2017. so until then riders should expect that all those trains should be crowded especially during the morning and afternoon commute times. we are live in walnut creek alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. tomorrow bart's board of

directors will get a report advising them on how to avoid messy confrontations with its unions and another possible strike. bart's general manager tells the chronicle that report was ordered after last years heated labor negotiations that led to two separate strikes. now the report includes 63 recommendations. they include starting negotiations six months before the old contract runs out instead of the current three month window. it should bring in mediators from the beginning rather than have them come in during negotiations. also it recommends not using negotiators with quote historically combative or adversarial styles. apple's big unvailing played out as expected. apple introduce two new iphones. the iphone 6 and the five phone 6 plus -- and the iphone 6

plus. the place of the new iphone starts at just under $200 with a new two-year contract. the phones will start shipping on september 19th. now the long rumored apple watch also revealed. it can read your pulse, track fitness goals and navigate through apps. there are three different models. you will need to own an iphone with the very latest operating system though to sync with the watch and the watch won't be available until early next year. the next is pay by phone feature. it's similar to something already available on the android phones. you touch your phone to a special if terminal. the information will not be stored on the phone. instead the program uses a special incrypted account number and security code that is only good once. now almost everyone was excited to finally hear what apple had up its sleeve. reaction is mixed.

water temps still in the 60s. 90s through the interior. lots of 70s and 80s. steve, we are looking at what we see as a commute that is getting busier all over the bay area. you can see it's a little darg. it's a little slow driving into san jose or out of san jose into cupertino and into sunnyvale. you will also notice slow traffic as you come down to that junction. westbound 85 and 101 are also slow. so you still have an opportunity to get out there and see what you can do. let's go to the east bay and westbound 24 looks good. southbound 680 also looking pretty decent in light of earlier commutes. highway 4 is very slow. isn't the, almost all of pittsburgh -- as a matter of fact almost all of pittsburg and bay point are slow.

let's go back to the desk. police in san jose still searching for suspects after a teenager was stabbed in broad daylight at a city park. this happened at hammond park. ktvu tara moriarty is joining us live now from the park with more on what one witness is saying. >> reporter: a neighbor called 911 after a fight broke out while a group of teens was walking home from school and the woman was quite rattled because she was with her kids. she says this violence is typically not something this neighborhood sees. officers say a 16-year-old boy was walking home from school with friends when they were confronted by the suspects. we talked to the neighbor. >> i saw a fight. it was one on one. but there were two fights going on. and after the fight i saw people running toward a car and

the car took off. >> reporter: the boys injuries were initially considered life threatening. but he was taken to the hospital where he is considered serious but in stable condition. friends of the victim says he attends del mar high school and he is not in a gang. we will go to the high school and try to talk to folks. live from san jose i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. the search for a missing teenager from hayward is shifting to san francisco and his activity online. more than two dozen people scoured a stretch of open face. the sophomore at monroe catholic high school stormed out of his house without his wallet or cell phone. >> mom and daddy love you.

recollected. they were not here a month ago. we are not sure if it is part of a gate. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. also today a judge in santa clara county is expected to set a trial date for the man accused of kidnapping and killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. torres faces a death sentence if convicted. he's accused of killing the 15- year-old girl who vanished while on her way to school more than two years ago. her body has never been found but prosecutors are confident they have the evidence that will lead to both the the conviction and the death penalty. the napa county sheriffs office reporting the first death linked to that 6.0 earthquake last month. 65-year-old laurie thompson died from a brain injury suffered during the quake. officials say a television hit her on the head. her family says the next day she felt dizzy. they convinced her to go to the

hospital. she died at the queen of the valley medical center last friday. napa county officials also asking people who had quake damage to their homes and businesses report it now. they need information about damaged buildings so they can find out if it qualifies for federal aid programs. if it does it could provide loans and grants to people who need to make repairs. the focus is on red tagged and yellow tagged buildings. the county says they need to know about all damaged buildings. the county board of supervisors received a report about damage to napa valley wineries. silicon valley banks wine division says they suffered $80 million in if losses. that includes broken barrels, lost inventory, and business losses when tasting rooms had to close. a top level government employee is under investigation this morning. child support services director john is accused of

inappropriately using travel expenses for his personal benefit now according to the television report, he's accused of wracking up hotel and airline credits by using his personal credit cards to pay county expenses and getting reimbursed for those charges. that is against county policy. he is now on paid administrative leave. time 16:38. happening today san jose city leaders will formerly present a controversial program that is aimed at boosting the city's under staffed police department. now the complex officer retention plan it includes a measure designed to entice police officers to stay on the force after they retired. hundreds of police officers recently quit over san jose's pension reform efforts. this plan will not solve san jose's police staffing crisis. it may cause several new problems. the city of san jose will have more eyes than ears out to fight crime. the city council approved a measure to use private security cameras to watch out for

>> just fran -- this frantic call came in on monday after a group of men beat up a coach for not playing their kids. one used brass knuckles. another had a gun in the waistband of his pants. the coach's wife took out her gun and fired a warning shot in the air. >> it happened behind us. it was a woman who's child plays for another team. >> the coach then went to his car and brought out his gun. all of the attackers had left by that time. police are still looking for the attackers but the coach and his wife have been kicked out of that youth league for bringing out the guns. time is 6:56. happening today a judge in san francisco will hear arguments that isn't the lawsuit against the accrediting commission to play sanctions on city college of san francisco. now that lawsuit was brought by city attorney dennis herrera.

herrera and school officials say the sanctions could needled to the college losing its accreditation. enrollment at city college has dropped since they threatened to pull its accreditation. housing is creating tensions between people who already live there. they have plans to redevelop 500-acres in north bay shore. that is where google headquarters is located. people who live in mountain view say housing prices are already skyrocketing and some worry that will go even higher if the city doesn't plan to bring anymore housing to the area. >> we use the term affordable loosely. we do not expect housing to go down but we just want to slow the rate increase. >> the city council reviewed the plans to redevelop enough office space for 20,000 new jobs. the mountain view mayor says housing has never been part of of that plan but does say mountain view is encouraging new home building so that there
