to preorder the iphone but there were problems. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. thank you for joining us. we are live in san jose. police are on the scene of a homicide. and they say a woman was found badly beaten just a few hours ago in this industrial area. janine de la vega has been out there since 4:30 this morning. she now has new information about that police have detained two persons of interests. she'll have more on what officers are saying about who the victim might be. thank you for waking up with us i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm brian flores in for dave clark. let's get your day, perhaps your weekend started with weather and traffic. steve paulson is here with a bit of a warmup. >> for some inland. 56 to start in san francisco.

70. we're getting low 50s mid 50s for some even though water temperatures are 62. did not see that all summer long. 4:a high. you can see the low cloud deck in place. that is plenty there. the satellite shows there is a big fog bank it's just not making much of a push inlapped. and then fog, napa airport reporting visibility reduction and fog. 50s and 60s. a little cool for some. still on the mild side for others. higher elevations between 63 and 80. there is still very warm air aloft. and 54 in petaluma. any breeze yet on that delta breeze? we look for that to pick up. that is a little stronger. otherwise sfo also about 12. that is about 3-4 miles an hour more than yesterday. so temperatures inland were still hot but they came down one or two degrees. fog near the coast. still hot inland. 70s and 60s closer to the water. right now we are looking at

a commute where traffic looks good on 80 westbound as you take a live look at the drive time between the carquinez bridge crockett and the mccarthur maze oakland. only 18 minutes not a bad commute at all. we can look at the toll >> . there is a backup of 20 minutes. the backup is 15 to add the time to drive across. it's a 20 minute drive time into san francisco. 580 it's unusual but it's improving a little bit from the altamont pass. a little bit of slow traveling in dublin. at 6:02 let's go back to the desk. there is a new democratic in a story we've been following since 4:30. san jose police have two people in custody in an early morning death. the victim is a woman who police found lying in the street. janine de la vega is talking with investigators this morning there at the crime scene. janine. >> reporter: pam, police have taken two people of interest into custody but this is still a very much an active scene.

homicide detectives arrived a short time ago. they also have their crime scene technicians out here investigating. here on 15th street this is an industrial area near 101 and oakland road with commercial businesses. it's also an area where the homeless congregate. someone passing by on 15th street spotted the woman lying face down on the sidewalk. officers arrived and found her unresponsive and suffering from blunt force trauma. she was pronounced dead at the scene. officers roped off this area to investigate and collect evidence. so far we have been told they have no weapon. they are treating this as a homicide. but they don't know exactly how this woman was killed. >> this person was face down. when the coroner gets here, they will do a little more investigation. when they take the body away we will get the full story.

>> reporter: police have taken two people away in handcuffs. they are calling them persons of interest. officers have also taken some witnesses back to the police station to question. they are trying to come up with a motive and the circumstances surrounding this crime. they have told us those witnesses are being very forthcoming. the victim appears to be in her 40s and possibly homeless. this is the city's 26th homicide of the year. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. force we're also foe log developing news of a u.s. navy jet crash. the pilot is missing after two jets collided. the other pilot was rescued. the jets were operations among uss carl vincent. this is final video of the uss carl vincent. it's based in san diego. just left on a nine month

deployment last month. the hornets have not been recovered. former olympian oscar pistorius cleared in the murder of his girlfriend was convicted on a lesser charge. >> the accused is found not guilty and is discharged. instead he is found guilty of culpable homicide. >> the judge accepted pistorius' defense that he mistook reeva steenkamp for an intruder last year.

it happened at 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the boy was rushed to the hospital but his injuries are not life threatening. he is expected to make a full recovery. police are trying to determine who owned the gun. one source tells us here that there has been trouble at the house before and that three men were wounded in a previous shooting. we're also getting a new look at what happens to guns. ab & e have been melting scrap metal and molding it into parts for years. the oakland police department uses the facility to melt down hundreds of weapons used to commit crimes. the guns are put into the metal boxes, locked, and seals before being transported to the facility under very tight

security. >> now while most of the guns were seized by officers, others were turned in during the department's gun buy back program. some people who park at meters in downtown walnut creek say they have been wrongful ticketed because of a technical glitch. alex savidge is live now with more on why some of the meters are being reset. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, to you. the city right now is is working to fix the glitch with certain parking meters here in the downtown area. the issue is with inground sensors that have been embedded in the payment -- embedded in the pavement. that means the red light goes off showing no time left and that leads to the drivers being wrongly ticketed. the city says a large truck

driving by or a car parked too close can accidentally trip those sensors. over the last few months about 100 drivers have been given tickets accordinged to contra costa times. those folks didn't deserve the tickets because of this glitch. one man told us after hearing about this problem, it will make him question that next parking ticket he gets. >> makes you think twice. >> reporter: while a fair number of people -- a fair number of people unfairly received tickets. right now the city is working with the manufacture to adjust the sensitivity on some of those sensors here in the downtown area and drives are having those tickets that they didn't deserve cleared. alex savidge ktvu channel 2

ten middle east countries have agreed to join the u.s. in fighting islamic state militants.

arab nations including saudi arabia, egypt, iraq, and jordan have agreed to do their share. a new assessment statements the number of islamic state fighters has grown from somewhere between 20,000 to 30,000 across iraq and syria. the mother of one of the american journalists beheaded by isis says she feels the u.s. government should have done more to try to free her son. james foley's mother dianne foley told cnn anderson cooper the government discouraged the family's efforts to free them. >> we were told to trust that he would be freed somehow. miraculously. and he wasn't, was he? >> officials warned her many times not to raise ransom money or they could have been prosecuted. a teenager who pled guilty to killing three high school students in ohio 2012 has been

recaptured after escaping from prison. authorities say tj lane and two other prisoners escaped from a facility in ohio last night. all three are back in custody. lane was found early this morning about 100 yards from the facility at a church. he opened fire at a high school cafeteria back in 2012. during his sentencing he read a t-shirt named killer. >> we immediately contacted the victims families of the chardon school shooting. school officials and other local law enforcement to insure the safety of our county residents. >> investigators are now trying to figure out how the men climbed over the prison fence. hundreds of people gathered in san francisco to remember a 14-year-old boy stabbed and killed liassic. many were dressed all in white yesterday morning at the funeral for rashawn williams. rashawn had just bought candy

at a mission district market with one of his younger brothers when she was stabbed to death. police have arrested at 14-year- old in connection to the shooting. a private investigator is examing the police department amid claims of sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation. it's taking these complaints seriously. one solves office workers exposed to child pornography. and there are allegations some employees padded their time sheets. east bay golf instructor agreed to a plea deal. admitting he abused three students and later hired a hit man to keep them from testifying against him. he was arrested last december. he was originally charged with 75 felony counts. he pled guilty to seven yesterday. three to abuse, one for child pornography, and three for the solicitation of murder. time is 6:15.

an american ebola survivor is helping another american infected with the virus. doctors are treating dr. rick sacra in nebraska saying he has responded to the treatment. both men contracted the virus while caring for ebola patients in liberia. brantly received an experimental drug and eventually recovered. it's 6:16. i want to check in with sal for a look at traffic. >> we are just looking at the south bay pam and brian. right now northbound 280 getting up to highway 17. still looks pretty good. we have a picture from downtown san jose as you can see. it's not bad. and hopefully today will have a little friday lighten cooing down. it's not as bad as it normally is through here. you will see slow traffic in livermore and dublin.

this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights were on. it's a 20 minute drive into san francisco. here is steve. happy friday everyone. very low clouds. there is reduced visibility to santa rosa and napa. very warm air aloft. if you get up front 1700 to 2,000 feet. that is 1700. 70 to 80-degrees. need a little more of a westerly breeze. the fog is there. 90s through the interior. we started the week off with way below average temps. gradual cooling as we go between. temperatures started to drop a little bit yesterday. san francisco was 80.

we are going 74 today. the fog was there. around highway 1 some pockets can be very tough to drive. we get that fog down on the deck sometimes. a few high clouds are possible to the north. that system which has just been spinning and spinning for two weeks now might get kicked along early next week. there are signs of a big cool down for us next week. and maybe some rain extreme northern california. did he say rain? yes, he did. not here. i don't think here. northern california around next wednesday or thursday. napa is 51. low 60s for livermore. novato is right at 50. there are cool numbers. half-moon bay is 55. brentwood at 63. was in lafayette last night and absolutely beautiful. nice evening there. just beautiful little breeze. it was nice. all right i'm done. we do have the breeze it is not too bad out toward sfo, 9. we'll see if it holds.

still have a tropical storm. it is expected to accelerate. 74 miles an hour over the weekend. it looks like the path will take it to the west of cabo and layups. they might be on the outer edge. so far it looks like it will stay away. amazingly cool billings 30. denver is 34. there was snow in wyoming, snow in montana, colorado. also into south dakota. some areas earlierest snow since 1888. a lot of the snow looks like it has ended but the cold air is in place. there is a good 25-degrees below average. we have temps that are a good 15 above. if they are cold, somebody has to be warmer. morning fogs. temperatures near the coast 60s and 70s coast and bay. a little bit copping down. it will take a day or two to

governor arnold schwarzenegger is getting additional scrutiny. schwarzenegger attended the unvailing. we are learning the story behind a summon on his right lapel in the painting. apparently the artist originally painted a lapel pin in that spot with a picture of maria shriver. now it has been painted over. the painting was done back in 2003 which was well before the two separated in 2011 following the discovery that schwarzenegger had fathered a child with the families housekeeper. now to the their biggest concern is safety and the state of san jose police department. san jose has seen a rise in violent crime and the drop in the number of officers. it's shameful. >> status quo is not acceptable. >> the former chief's blamed

the exitist of officers. current mayor chuck reed says more officers are being hired and two more police academies are also been added. the two candidates are dave cortez. and san jose city councilman sam liccardo. some disabled veterans took -- they climbed elle captain. 24-year-old cody elliot a former marine is one of the 13 veterans that took part. he lost a leg after being injured in afghanistan but he says he is doing this climb for five fellow marines who died in afghanistan. >> i survived for a purpose. that is to live the life they may have lived or just to live for them every moment i can. >> he never thought he could be active again but climbing gave him hope and helped him with his recovery. a bumpy ride for my many

half-moon bay 55. 59 santa rosa. menlo park is in there along with foster city, los altos hills. the breeze picking up yet. it's in that category. we'll see if it goes below 10 or continues to ramp up. there is a lot of fog there. and after that burns off we will have temperatures that will be a little above average. so fog near the coast but hot inland with 90s. 60s and 70s and 80s closer to the water. we've had a decent commute on a friday sometimes fridays we do get better commutes. this morning it's shaping up that way as we look at 80. it has remained steady and constant. drive time of only 19 minutes average speed of 61 miles an hour.

look at south bay map. road seps ors showing mostly green which means speeds are up in san jose. 6:31 public transportation on time. the victim is a woman who police found lying on the street in an industrial area of the city. ktvu janine de la vega is talking to investigators at the crime scene. j phone, what have you learned so far. >> reporter: police have taken those two people back to the police station. they are talking to them. they think they have information in relation to this homicide. they broke off 15th street here close to 101 and oakland road. this is where the woman's body was found and crime scene technicians and detectives are trying to piece together what

happened. what police do know this woman was assaulted. they received a 911 call at around 2:30 a.m.. there was an unresponsive person lying on 15th street. they found a woman face down suffering from blunt force trauma. police searched the area for evidence. we on receiverred them talking to two people who were eventually handcuffed an taken away by officers. police are not calling them suspects. they have been called persons of interest. >> we are actively con vassing and still trying to gather evidence. >> but you believe you have two of the people involved. >> we have people of interest that have been taken downtown. >> reporter: homicide detectives are on the scene. they will be trying to come up with a motive and what led up to this woman's murder. the area where this occurred is industrial with a mix of businesses. the victim appears to be

homeless and in her 40s. reporting live janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. a man is fighting for his life this morning after being found with several gunshot wounds near san francisco general hospital. police say the man is in his 20s and was found at about 8:30 last night on 23rd and utah. before the man was located police received reports of shots being fired on ellsworth street and bernal heights. but police could not confirm if the two were incidents were related. police in richmond are investigating a shooting that left a man in critical condition. it happened shortly after 10:00 last night. shot spotter technology led officers to the scene. when they arrived they found a man that had been shot several times. he was air lifted to the hospital. no arrests have been made. there is a surprising new concern related to the napa earthquake. tara moriarty just spoke with the head of napa county corrections department about

the problem infecting inmates at the county jail. tara. >> reporter: he says 60 inmates are being transferred out of this jail. they are heading to solano. if you've take a look behind me, one of the sign says the inmate canteen kiosk is in the portable unit. pieces off. and create an issue for staff and other inmates. >> reporter: president obama has declared the quake zone a federal disaster. it is estimated that it caused more than $400 million. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. pg&e is also replacing some aging gasolines in napa due to the earthquake. the napa valley register reports pg&e has already begun work to replace gas lines on lost carnaros avenue. and they will replace gas lines in west napa's badly damaged meadow brook area. gas lines were not ruptured in the quake. time is 6:36. some people who park at meters in downtown walnut creek say they have been wrongly ticketed because of a technical glitch. alex savidge is live there to explain the problem and what

the city is doing to fix it. >> reporter: brian, good morning to you. the issue is with these inground sensors. some of the sensors are arbiter tool sensitive and sometimes the meters have been reset with paid cars still sitting in the spot. that means the red light goes off and shows no time left. that leads to the drivers being wrongfully ticketed. a large truck driving by and a car could trip the sensors. about 100 drivers have been tickets they didn't deserve because of malfunctioning meters. >> these things. you end upcoming up with a

ticket and you have no idea how it happened. yeah it's frustrating. >> reporter: while a fair number of people unfairly received tickets over the last few months, the city says the problem is not wide spread. it's only 1% of all the metered transactions that were a result of the malfunctioning meters. right now the city is working with the manufacture to adjust the sensitivity on some of those sensors. and any drivers that paid tickets they didn't deserve are having those tickets cleared. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >> alex, does it sound like the sensors they zero out when someone leaves too so there is no leaving money on the meeter? >> reporter: that is my understanding. that sour understanding it zeros out. when someone pulls out of that spot, that is it. it goes back to zero,s next person pulls in and pays full

price. >> that will make a lot of people angry as well. thank you. 49% of bay area roads are in poor condition costing drivers thousands of dollars a year. that is according to a report from the transportation research group trip. rough roads cost drivers in san francisco, in the east bay more than $2200 a year in repairs, maintenance, and extra gas. in san jose drivers are paying more than $1700. many drivers say they are not surprised by the findings. >> new tires, gas, by just sitting in traffic. i can understand why the number is high. >> the report also found drivers in san francisco and oakland waste an average of 61 hours a year in traffic and that poor roads contribute to a third of serious and deadly crashes. a new crime fighting tool. coming up at 7:00 the high-tech addition to the antioch police department and why officers are depending on people that live in the officer for it to work.

welcome back. the baltimore ravens return to the field since that graphic video surfaced. now the ravens hoed the pittsburgh steelers in a nationally broadcast game thursday night football game. many ravens fans actually showed their support for rice by wearing his jersey to last nights game. hay say rice has admitted to his mistake and has been punished for it. dozens of ravens fans in the bay area watch the game from a packed bar in san francisco. that is a group called raisins in the fog. they regularly meet at a bar in the mission district to cheer on baltimore. many of the fans are outraged over the ray rice incident but they are trying to turn a negative to into a positive and have set up a special facebook

page to raise money for domestic violence. >> you cannot look to an nfl to be a moral compass for society. i think we're all trying to focus on what this means to us and the camaraderie. >> the group just started the campaign and already raised more than $800. organizers of one of the most colorful september 11th tributes are planning another memorial this year. that was quite a display yesterday. passing drivers honked their horns in appreciation for a 9/11 display at an overpass. this commemoration started with one u.s. flag and now grown to more than 60. organizers say it's the largest over pass display in california. >> i come up here every year. this is my personal way of saying that i remember i will always remember. >> volunteers who hang up these flags say it's a labor of love. it's their way to demonstrate

the resilience of americans and remind everyone about how precious life is. the city of hayward is in the process of building its own memorial for the victims of the september 11th attacks. several dozen people pushed out last night for a candle light vigil. the 3,000 people killed that way will never be forgotten. he hopes the memorial on mission boulevard will carry on the legacy and spirit of 9/11 victims. a nevada woman who spent 30 years in prison for a killing she said she did not commit is out of jail this morning. this is a picture of 54-year- old kathy woods in court earlier this week. she was accused in the stabbing death of mitchell. she later admitted to the crime. earlier this week the fbi revealed the dna on a cigarette butt in the garage where mitchell's body was found matches that of rodney. now he's also linked to the murders of five women here in

the bay area known as the gypsy hill murders. wood has been granted a new trial which is set to get under way next year. time is 6:45. i think it's a good time to check in with tori campbell to see what is coming up. >> coming up on mornings on 2 mark benioff is opening up his wallet once again. last year he gave over $2 million to san francisco schools. today it's expected he will announce an even bigger donation. where the money will go though after lessons learned from the first big gift. and in the mid to late 90s, 100,000 monarch butterflies would flock to santa cruz. last year there was only 5,000. those are some of the stories we're working on for mornings on 2, now back to you on the morning news. >> thank you.

6:46 is the time. back over to sal far look at traffic. >> all right westbound 24 we all start there. if you are driving on 24 westbound coming up to the tunnels, it looks pretty good. this is a very nice drive from pleasant hill road to the caldecott tunnel. the bay bridge toll plaza that commute has been moderate. if you are approaching from 880 that is the way to go. 880 approaches are light this morning. and if you are in san jose the traffic here has been looking good. there was an accident northbound 101. it's not causing a lot of slow traffic. 6:47 let's go to steve. it will be hot, steve. >> for some inland. >> a little cooler coast and bay. a little bit of fog here. dense morning fog. it looked a little thicker yesterday. there might be pockets of it. there might be a little puff, a breeze. inland there i will have a little hint. gradual cooling. saturday will be that betweener

day. sunday looks cooler. next week looks significantly cooler. we have to deal with above normal temps. what is average this time of yore is 70. san jose 58. we will go 88 degrees. that is about five above as well. even though temperatures are coming down still. fog there is a lot out there. a few high clouds might move through the area. not from thrist damage. that might be here next week. it's from this system hermying up. higher clouds. i would think probably more toward the north bay than anywhere else. over all the breeze is not there. temperatures cool for some. low 50s for everyone else. 55 for half-moon bay. 55 for walnut creek. you need to budge that and get that cooler before a really cool offer pick up the breeze.

san rafael 87. napa 93. concord 95. down two from yesterday. 88 san jose. 87 on the peninsula. 66 pacifica. a little cooler as we go into the weekend and much cooler as we go into next week. a federal court has unsealed 1500 pages of documents from yahoo's fight over the federal government. the sunnyvale company refused to hand over data saying it was a violation of fourth amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure. yahoo eventually gave up the information after an unsuccessful legal challenge. hewlett pac card has been fined $50 million for bribing
