on the bridge, so then they had to meter the traffic on the bridge and suddenly we had a good commute at the bay bridge, turning into a terrible one. it is backed up for a 30 to 40 minute delay or drive time from this side over to san francisco. today is a great day to think about taking b.a.r.t. as an alternative or perhaps using the san mateo bridge. on 880 to the san mateo bridge, doesn't look too bad just yet. south bay, an earlier crash on northbound 101. the southbound commute has been been bad. it continues to look good. highway 50 is open right now through the pollock pines area. and they have reopened it after they closed it overnight for fire activity. if you're going up there, you can use highway 50. 7:03. back to the desk. a south san francisco plumber is in jail after he beat a man to death at a gym. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us

live from bally total fitness where gym members are respond to go this brutal attack. good morning tara. >> reporter: the gym manager tells us they are taking extra security precautions in the wake of this killing, but what exactly those safety measures are, they have not said. now, behind me, you can see that this gym is rather wide open inside so it would be really difficult to attack someone without everyone seeing. the killing happened around 9:30 wednesday night at the bally total fitness. by thursday morning, police had arrested 46-year-old kenneth osako on homicide charges. he had attacked another member with a solid steel bar normally used to lift weight. >> are you surprised? >> yes, i have been coming here for a few years. everybody is very very friendly. i'm the early crowd i felt get

working apple employees inside this store ready to sell those new iphone 6's, and the iphone 6 pluses and there are hundreds of people waiting in the line, waiting to get their hands on the new device. the group began forming a line out here tuesday afternoon. that's how long some people have been waiting. let me show you what this line looks like. as we walk down the line this morning, it stretches all the way to the opposite side of this block. people have been out here with their lawn chairs set up. some people had tents out here. they had blankets because they were sleeping out here for several nightings. everyone want -- nights. everyone wants to get ahold of the iphone 6 and 6 plus, and boasting the new screen that everyone is excited about. the people near the end of the line are concerned. they're trying to stay optimistic that they'll be leaving here today with a phone. >> it's a difficult thing to come out here on a bet. the bet is are we going to get it or we're not going to get

around with it. live in palo alto, alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we'll see you soon, thank you for that report and for the nonapple fans, samsung is starting to take orders for the newest smart phone. the galaxy note 4 will be available, and preorders are available today with a larger screen, 5.7 inches, slightly bigger than the iphone 6 plus. and they're making the galaxy note edge with a side screen to display whether updates, clocks and other information. they have not said when that will be released. new information about the wildfires in northern california. a short time ago, cal fire announced it is making progress and putting the fires out. we'll have the latest damage totals in just a moment. first, a man accused of intentionally setting the massive wildfire near pollock pines will be in court at 1:00 this afternoon. 37-year-old wayne allen huntsman faces one felony count

of arson with aggravating factors since two firefighters were injured battling the fire. huntsman is right now in the eldorado county jail in placerville this morning on ten million dollars bond. the prosecutor says huntsman deliberately set the fire last saturday in very steep terrain. just minutes after the fire started a cal fire investigator was on the scene. he found the spot where the fire started and developed information leading to huntsman's arrest. in the past half hour, we learned that this fire has grown to 76,000 acres. that's 3000 more than last night. the fire is still only 10% contained. nearly 3000 people have been forced to evacuate with 12,000 homes being threatened at this hour. >> the frustration is such a mild word. there's nothing you can really, you know, say, you know. most people are speechless

about it. it's just harsh. >> it costs $5 million a day to fight the fire right now. the federal government has agreed to pay 75% of california's fire fighting costs. huntsman has prior convictions for assault, vehicle theft and receiving stolen property but not arson. coming up at 7:35, a live report from eldorado county on the fire and the fire investigation. ktvu had a chance to talk to the center of arson suspect wayne huntsman. tammy criswell told us on the phone the arrest stunned her, and she believes the charges will not stick. she did not want her face shown during an interview with the station in salinas. >> he has worked with his step dad doing tree work. we have always been out in the wilderness. we went camping regularly. a bonfire at the beach, he was the one watching making sure everything was okay. >> she told us her brother is a good person, and they were extremely close when they grew up together. we asked about her criminal

history, and she insisted he had put those troubles behind him and the crimes do not reflect who he is today. fire crews are close to fully containing that other destructive fire in northern california. the wildfire in the city of weed is 85% contained. there was a flare up yesterday which raised the burn area to 479 acres. this morning, it is 90% contained. however, 150 homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed with another thousand still in harm's way. we have created this map showing the 10 major wildfires burning in california. as you can see most are in the northern and central part of the state. 6600 firefighters are working on these fires. it's 7:11. a fairfield man has been arrested accused of molesting a child at a day care center. 50-year-old randall edwards was arrested yesterday. police say the incident happened about two years ago. the child was attending an inhome child care have located on sheer water way in

fairfield. edwards is the husband of the licensed child care provider. the investigation is ongoing. anyone with information is asked to call fairfield police. a san francisco resident is asking for the public's help in finding the person who stole a gift right from the front of a home. watch carefully. this is video taken from different camera angles by home surveillance system. the thief goes up the front steps of a home and takes off with a gift bag that was left at the door. neighbors had dropped off a bottle of wine to thank the homeowner for watching their child after school. now, the homeowner is looking to catch the thief. this happened just before 5:00 p.m. last sunday in the city's outer richmond district. okay. a dreaded virus outbreak. in 25 minutes, a severe respiratory illness in children spreading across the country is now in california. what every parent needs to know. i'm thinking is looks like a bibi gun. >> a bay area fire station

random. >> did not find any other damage within the station here. there were no threats, no letters, no phone calls or anything like that. and crews were safe. >> san jose fire stations do not have surveillance cameras but video from nearby businesses could help in the investigation. scottish voters have rejected inspection deciding that scotland will remain a part of the united kingdom. supporters of independence gathered in glasgow awaiting the outcome of the vote. preliminary results show 55% voted for scotland to remain a part of the united kingdom, along with england, wales and northern ireland. david cameron says he welcomes the vote. >> like millions of other people, i am delighted. as i said during the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see our united kingdom come to an end. >> the prime minister paid tribute to the large number who voted for independence and said

workers that the declining sales of cheerios and betty crocker cake mixes could cost them their jobs. the company says sales are down 25% in the last few years. community leaders say shutting the plant would also put an end to general mills generous contributions to local nonprofit groups. governor jerry brown wants to keep the cameras rolling in california. he signed new legislation yesterday in hollywood that's a new program that more than triples the state's annual tax credit for production companies to $330 million a year. the governor says the program will keep hollywood in hollywood. recently a lot of productions have been leaving the state. the uc board of regents has awarded pay increases of as much as 20% to the leaders of four campuses including uc santa cruz issue. the new increase comes after uc chancellors had no had increased in 7 years until july when they got a 3% hike. george blumenthal is set to

the low responsible for our clouds ran very high humidity is now on its way to southern california for a day or day and a half, and it will move out. a good 10, 12, 15 degrees cooler. yesterday near the 70s. today 50s and 60s. still have pockets of fog. very mild ocean temps,s coast and san francisco are not that cool. they stay pretty mild. fog, sun, warm, warm along the coast. 80s to the interior, 70s at the bay to near 80. here's sal. we are looking at a commute that's busy on the bay bridge. i want to show you the san mateo bridge, and that could be a decent alternate for you if you're trying to get across the bay. it is crowded but not as bad as it normally is. when you get to 101 it's not that bad. the bay bridge, a crash just off of it in san francisco westbound earlier this morning. that crash is gone. but traffic was affected on the bridge itself and also here at the toll plaza. we have a 35 to 40 minute drive time. westbound 580 still slow coming through the livermore area

because of earlier problems and because of the normal commute but it does look okay in dublin and pleasanton. let's go back to the desk. a new health threat in california. the state is seeing its first cases of a highly contagious respiratory illness. katie utehs is live in walnut creek with what parents need to know about a virus harmful to children. >> reporter: there is no vaccine or specific treatment for enterovirus. it's important to follow the grade school recommendations, washing your hands, coughing in your elbow, all the things to prevent the spread. enterovirus d68 has sickened more than 150 people nationwide and there are four confirmed cases in california. it spreads like the common cold and causes similar symptoms, but in children, it can cause serious respiratory issues, incoming wheezing as they struggle to breathe. there's not a vaccine or specific treatment so it's important that word of the virus spreads so it can be prevented. >> i'm not concerned about it. i was sad to see that it's

affecting children more than adults. i saw the poor little kids in southern california have had it. >> reporter: the department of public health says parents should take their children to the doctor if they have difficulty breathing. kids with asthma are especially at risk. the confirmed cases in california are from southern california, san diego area and ventura county. public health is testing more samples and they expect enterovirus to spread in the coming weeks. so again, the advice here, wash your hands and do all that you can to prevent the spread of germs. live in walnut creek, katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. with flu season on the horizon, the centers for disease control is urging people to get vaccinated. 30,000 people die from the flu each year, only 45% of americans actually get a flu shot. everyone over the age of six months should get vaccinated. research shows the nasal flu vaccine works better for

children ages 2 to 8. doctors want to remind the elderly they should get vaccinated against pneumonia as well as the flu. it's 7:34. we're learning new details about 49er ray mcdonald's domestic violence case. san jose police have revealed they were called to his home back in may three months before his arrest. officers responded to a 911 call from a man saying his fiance had grabbed his gun during a heated argument. >> on bentley ridge at kenny hills. fired a gun, possibly at a male. >> no shots were fired but the police report states the woman held a gun at her side until the man told her he was calling police. >> mr. mcdonald felt strongly enough that he needed to call 911 as a result of his fiance

possessing and holding a handgun. that in and of itself is very significant. he obviously called 911 for a reason. >> legal experts say this earlier incident could help mcdonald if he plans to say he was acting in self-defense when he was arrested on charges he attacked his pregnant fiance. the 49er defensive tackle has not been charged nearly three weeks after that arrest. the 49ers still have decided to play mcdonald while he's under investigation for felony domestic violence, and you can now add the name of 49er legend jerry rice to the growing list of people who strongly disagree with that decision. >> it's very important to let people know that, you know, we're just not going to tolerate that. and the players, they need to recognize that, hey, look, if i do something like that, i'm going to get suspended or, you know, i could be banned from the league. >> jerry rice has joined former 49er great steve young in publicly stating mcdonald

should be benched while the legal process plays out. house minority leader nancy pelosi and lieutenant governor also share the view. an oakland father remains in jail in connection with the accidental shooting of his own son, 23-year-old, matua is being charged with child endangerment and gun charges in connection with the shooting last week. police say he was pushing his 20-month-old son in a stroller when a pistol fell out of his pants and went off. the baby was shot in the shoulder but he's expected to be okay. he pled not to the charges. fairfield police arrested the mother of a special needs girl who was found with a handgun this her backpack at a public library in cordelia. it happened monday. the 11-year-old showed the unloaded weapon to another girl who then told her mother. she told them she took it without permission from a relative. officers say they found a 92- year-old grandmother living in deplorable conditions at the

family's home. they arrested 55-year-old cordetta ruta for elder abuse and child endangerment. 7:37. new information about the wildfire near pollock pines. the king fire has now burned more than 76,000 acres. that's up 3000 acres from last night. there are also 4400 firefighters on the front lines. reporter adam houseley has seen firsthand the destruction caused by the fire. he joins us live from pollock pines. how much progress are firefighters making? >> reporter: they are making some progress, when you take into account the two nights previous, the fire doubled in size. last night, only 3000 acres. that's positive news. there is some concern, though, that potentially some wind could come and stoke this fire in a different direction. they are cautiously optimistic. they have 10% containment. they say the fire is very dangerous and still obviously very large. the issue also now besides the

fact that the fire is burning, some very steep and rugged terrain is that the smoke is just sitting in a lot of areas in the foothills and in fact is affecting areas as far as 50 miles away, in reno, 50 miles over the hills and mountains, we're told the high school football games will be canceled this evening because the air quality is so poor. firefighters are not only dealing with not a lot of sleep and tough terrain, but difficult conditions when it comes to the air quality up here. the other good news going along with this is talking about the difficulty of the air quality is the fact that the temperatures have dropped significantly. the humidity has come up, different than what we saw a few days ago up here which allows for at least mother nature wise a little better fire fighting conditions over all. as for the suspect, wayne allen huntsman is charged with a number of felonies including setting this fire on purpose. he will actually be arraigned today we're told around 1:00 this afternoon. he'll be arraigned. he's currently being held on

$10 million bail. authorities told us yesterday that right away, within literally minutes, they had an investigator on the scene when this fire started and they had keys earlier on, very early on that they felt this fire was intentionally set. they really would not go into details about the investigation other than they feel they have a very strong case, and of course the investigation is still moving forward but they obviously feel confident enough to arraign this suspect today on charges and they believe we have been told that he acted alone, that he started this fire on purpose, and they may have some witnesses from people that were nearby in pollock pines where the fire started just a few days ago. >> and adam, you have been up there since wednesday. you mentioned the air quality is terrible. how are residents holding up dealing with all this? >> reporter: yeah, you know, we talked to a lot of residents and you see more residents around here than you realize. we're not in a mandatory evacuation. it's just behind me. that's where it starts along highway 50 in pollock pines. down the hill, we were down the

carrying out attacks here in the u.s. experts are testifying about the threat from what are called foreign fighters. those are people with u.s. passports who have trained with islamic extremist groups in the middle east. president obama got what he wanted from congress, authorization to arm and train syrian rebels in the fight against islamic state terrorists. the u.s. senate approved the bill yesterday, a day after it passed in the house. and the islamic state terror group has release add new propaganda video feature ago british hostage. a journalist reading from a script saying the islamic state has been misrepresented by western media and that he will reveal the truth about the group in future messages. kentley was taken hostage in november 2012. and a group supporting isis tweeted the hostage video to a university in ohio. it happened in the middle of an ethics workshop at kent state university. the workshop featured a video

screen in the classroom showing online comments from students. then, suddenly, a tweet with the word isis popped up. it included a web address to the hostage video. >> kind of a scary feeling knowing that a group that is miles away in a completely different country knew exactly what we were doing. that was just, it was crazy. >> terror experts say the tweet did not target kent state but was aimed at drawing attention to isis through social media. happening today, the biggest ipo in u.s. history, alibaba starts trading today, and pam cook is watching wall street and joins us in the studio with the excitement over the company and the man who started it. pam. >> the excitement on wall street is evident. i have been keeping an eye on it at my desk. alibaba priced at $68 a share at the high end of expectations. it has not started trading yet but indications are it will open up between 82 and $85 a

share. the 68-dollar price tag makes it the biggest ipo in history. there's excitement as the opening bell rang, the company raising $22 billion. alibaba is china's largest e commerce company and china is the world's largest ecommerce market. online business will generate $540 billion in sales next year. the man behind the company is just as impressive. we heard from a former executive who joined alibaba right after it moved its headquarters out of a small apartment. >> one of the things he did at these company meetings is he along with the other senior managers would get and you happen sort of in a self- deprecating way try to make fun of themselves. you see him dressed as a rock star kind of making fun of himself. for me, working with him was just a great experience. i learned a lot about business, but i learned a lot about life. jack is somewhat of a philosopher, and when you and him if he considers himself a business person, he'd be more likely to say he considers

himself an artist. >> he's talking about jack maw, the cofounder of alibaba who is a rock star on wall street this morning . he's down there surrounded by people on the new york stock exchange. there's talk on wall street that alibaba chose the new york stock exchange over the nasdaq which was a blow for the exchange known for launching big tech companies partly because of how the nasdaq handled facebook's ipo. it has not started trading yet. the indications, 82 to $85 a share, and i'm listening in and the traders are talking about the reason why it hasn't opened. it's typical an ipo will take a while. they need to find sellers, people willing to sell the stock. sounds like people want to hang onto it. >> appreciate it pam. we just checked and or chemical is down a little over -- oracle is down a little over $2. larry ellison is stepping aside

as chief executive officer. he is 70 years old, announced both mark her and software cats will serve as the chief executives, currently coexecutives of the president. he will stay as board chairman and chief technology officer. ellison is the 5th richest man in the world and was one of the last tech company founders to still be a ceo. a southern california lawyer is facing a six month suspension after being accused of photo shopping herself into celebrity photos. according to the recorder, the pictures appeared showing her image with the likes of president obama, george clooney, and dozens of other high ranking officials and celebrities. the state bar accused sangari of false advertising and asked her to take the pictures down. at first she refused and had a 16 page response in which she

referred to herself in the third person. she has taken the pictures down. her suspension needs approval from the state supreme court. i want to bring in sal right now. we're getting word that the metering lights are running very slow at the bay bridge toll plaza this friday morning. >> that's correct mike and tori because of an earlier crash caused traffic on the bridge. they wanted to get that bridge traffic cleared off, and they have done that, but now the metering lights are going to be sped up a little bit. there's a big back up at the toll plaza. when they slow the metering lights down, that's what happens. we have a 35 to 40 minute drive time into san francisco, so it's more than we would like to see on a friday or any day for that matter. it's unexpected somewhat on a friday. let's move along and take a look at your alternate which is getting busy. san mateo getting slow. b.a.r.t. is a decent alternate. they haven't reported any problems on the b.a.r.t. system. 580 slow through the livermore valley. a couple earlier crashes there, and 880 traffic is just moderate from hayward to

a federal appeals court is sending strong signals the government's case against barry bonds may be on shaky ground.

the panel took up the case yesterday hinting it may over turn bond's felony conviction. one judge called the prosecution's definition of obstruction alarming because bonds ultimately answered all the questions during his testimony more than ten years ago. bonds often gave rambling answers before the grand jury investigating the steroid scandal. it is coming up on 7:56. for nine months, the justice department has been looking into the bridge gate scandal and what role new jersey governor chris christie may have played in it. so far officials have not found any links to the potential presidential candidate. now christie says it's time to close the book on the investigation. he insists he did not know about or order traffic lanes on the george washington bridge to be closed last september. that caused massive traffic jams in fort lee new jersey. it was apparently meant to punish the fort lee mayor who did not endorse christie in

short time ago, and people beginning to stream in to get their new phones, and of course the man right there in the dark colored t-shirt, apple ceo tim cook. we saw him arrive a short time ago, and he came out to mingle with the fans who have been camped out here for several days, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new iphone 6. take a look at tim cook as he walked the line of people just a short time ago. >> good to see you. how are you. >> reporter: there's the apple ceo. he just strolled up to the store this morning and started walking up to people and shaking their hands. he thanked everybody of course for coming down, and thanked them for their support, and for coming down to buy the iphone 6 or 6 plus which of course boasts that much larger screen, and i'll tell you what, tim cook walked all the way to the end of the line, and we're talking hundreds of people in this line. they have been camped out since

tuesday afternoon. this line stretched all the way clear to the other side of the block, and many people have been sleeping on the ground. they have been here camped out with their chairs, and their blankets, people even brought tents as well. everyone anxious to get their hands on the new device, and it's the same scene at the water store as well. there are hundreds of people lined up over there for quite some time. they say the wait is well worth it. >> apple makes a great product, and i've had all the phones and it's just a great way to show my support for apple. >> and the presale orders for the new iphone 6's have shattered records, more than 4 million people have preordered the phone, and those folks, however they're not going to get their hands on the phone for another month or so at the very least, but as we bring you back out here live, the people that are going to be coming inside the apple store this morning or who have just begun

battling that fire. huntsman is in the eldorado county jail in placerville on $10 million bond. the prosecutor says huntsman deliberately set the fire last saturday in very steep terrain. minutes after the fire started a cal fire investigator was on the scene and found the spot where the fire started and developed information leading to huntsman's arrest. and the king fire grew from 73,000 acres last night to 76,000 acres this morning. the fire is still just 10% contained with 12,000 homes threatened. >> he doesn't rank with child molesters but not far behind in my mind. >> we will continue to remain relentless in our pursuit of individuals who pursue and engage in these heinous act. >> it costs $5 million a day to fight this fire. the federal government has agreed to pay 75% of california's fire fighting costs. huntsman has prior convictions for assault, vehicle theft and

receiving stolen property but not arson. ktvu had a chance to talk to the sister of the arson suspect, wayne huntsman. tammy criswell said the arrest stunned her, and the charges will not stick. she did not want her face shown during an interview she did with a news station in salinas. >> he worked with his step dad doing tree work. we have always been in the wilderness, went camping regularly. even if we had a campfire at the beach, he would watch, make sure everything was okay. >> reporter: she told us her brother was a good person and they were extremely close when they grew up together in santa cruz. we asked about his criminal history. she insists he had put all the troubles behind him and that the crimes do not reflect who he is today. it is 8:09. fire crews are close to fully containing the other destructive fire in northern california. cal fire announced the bowls

fire is 90% contained. there was a flare up yesterday which raised the burn area to 479 acres. 150 homes and businesses, most in the city of weed have been damaged or destroyed, but another thousand still in harms way. we have created this map showing the ten major wildfires currently in california. as you can see most of them are in the northern and central part of the state. 6600 firefighters are working on these fires. a plumber from the peninsula is in jail this morning. police say he beat a man to death at a gym ktvu's tara moriarty join us from south san francisco with new information about the suspect. >> reporter: yes, and new information about the victim as well. we spoke to a friend of the victim who identifies him as diego o ringo. he did not see this coming. he was attacked out of nowhere. he was blind sided while he was working out. we had a chance to go to the suspect's house.

we spoke to his mother. she said her son never came home on wednesday night. she had no idea about the charges that have been levied against him. she says that he has not called her at all or given her any sort of indication as to what's happening with him. she did express her sorrow for the victim who was bludgeoned inside the gym. it happened at 9:30 at bally fitness center. by thursday morning, police are arrested 46-year-old kenneth osako on homicide charges. osako hit another gym member in the head several times with a solid steel bar normally used to lift weights. gym goers were stunned. >> we do have a few characters here. but never ever any trouble, not once. so this is very surprising. >> reporter: the victim was rushed to san francisco general hospital where he later died. osako is being held without bail at the san mateo county

it is 8:15. scottish voters have rejected independence deciding that scotland will remain a part of the united kingdom. supporters of independence gathered in glasgow through the night awaiting the outcome of the vote. preliminary results showed 55% voted for scotland to remain a part of the united kingdom along with england, wales and

northern ireland. british prime minister david cameron said he welcomed the results. >> like millions of other people, i am delighted. as i said during the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see our united kingdom come to an end. the prime minister paid tribute to the large number of scottish people who voted for independence and would deliver on promises made during the campaign to give more power to scotland's government. scots here in the bay area have been closely following the independence vote back home at mcgraw scottish pub in belmont, the referendum has been a hot topic with opinions on both sides of the issue. the husband and wife who own the hub don't agree. his family voted for independence while her family voted no. >> scotland is a very small country and i feel we need to be part of britain. >> i think scotland can stand up for themselves. they don't need anyone else to

lean on. >> they received text updates from home as the voting was underway. they could not vote. you had to be in scotland to cast a ballot, and looks like joan mcgraw will be celebrating a win for her side. she may be rubbing it in just a little bit, and we have an news update, the scottish independence leader, alex salmon pushing hard for independence has announced his resignation as first minister from scotland. so that is breaking news just coming in from scotland once again, some more information as a result of the independence vote that was voted down in scotland overnight. a san jose fire station is making repairs after someone shattered a couple windows while fire were either asleep or out on calls. it happened sometime between midnight and 6:00 a.m. yesterday morning. two windows were shattered. the vandals may have used a pellet gone or a small caliber

gun. police took a report but it appears it is random. >> we did not find any other damage within the station here. there were no threats, no letters, no phone calls or anything like that. and crews were safe. >> san jose fire stations do not have surveillance camera but video from nearby businesses could help in the investigation. 8:17. three bay area lawmakers are now calling on california's attorney general to investigate the latest controversy tied to the san bruno pipeline explosion. on monday, three top pg&e executives were fired after private e-mails went public. they reportedly show pg&e's cozy relationship with the state puc in a critical rate setting case. that case was directly tied to the disaster in san bruno four years ago. two state lawmakers from the peninsula and the mayor of san bruno now want attorney general to step in to investigate. a new mashable survey shows

nearly 10% of all american workers have been high on marijuana while on the job. 9.7% of the people asked say they have reported to work after smoking pot. and the overwhelming majority say they were not using pot for medical reasons or they were not in colorado or washington where marijuana has become legal for recreational purposes. >> kind of an up and down commute on this friday. let's get back to sal to see if that's changing at all. you know, it has been a tough one out there, you know, on friday at the bay bridge. one of those things where people weren't expecting it to be so heavy and that's because there was an accident on the san francisco side of the bridge. let's go out and take a look at what we have with the commute. 880 oakland, southbound, a little bit slow here. we had some earlier problems heading south on 880 in oakland, and the traffic is a little bit slow heading down. there was a problem at marina boulevard as being cleared. it was a ladder in one of the

lanes, and traffic is a little bit slow as you can see. northbound on the right is moderate. bay bridge, that has backed up for a 25 to 30 minute wait at the toll plaza. ends up being a 40 to 45 minute drive from oakland to san francisco using the bay bridge, and that's because of all the slow traffic. highway 4 is still slow from pittsburg, but it's cleared out in antioch. from pittsburg to concord and slow in pleasant hill on 60. at 8:20. here's steve. thank you sal. good morning, some fog still around. pretty good humidity there but not like yesterday. yesterday was just crazy for us. but with the fog, we'll retreat. some of it's thick. reduced visibility. not only low clouds but also the fog. a few showers might pop up near reno. it looks like it's kind of fizzling out there. our system is moving right down the coast. it's not that strong but it is moving south and as it does, it will then take the turn and head back up towards central california on sunday. 50s and 60s instead of 70s for

lows that we had yesterday. i mean, yesterday with the south wind and the moisture in place, it was very warm. still pretty warm, though. 68 east san jose. 67 san jose state university and a couple 50s in the higher elevations. 64 in gilroy. so if you have that fog, petaluma around 60 as well. southwest 15. concord is seeing a south wind. there's a westerly breeze. san francisco buoy 64. monterey and half-moon bay, 65. monterey yesterday 66 warm degrees. i mean, these are just very very warm for this late in the season, and it's not el nino. low clouds down in southern california, tropical storm polo. remember, it was a category 4 and then category three hurricane which went in about a week ago. this is much different. all the steering currents are taking it away from baja.

once that burns off, it will be all right. the low on its way to southern california. only going to do this and come right back looks like on sunday keeping the low clouds and fog in place. so it's not disappearing. 50s and 60s on the temps. 10 to 15 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. we had 70s for lows. the humidity still high but the wind direction has turned. not southerly, more westerly. most locations are calm. it's a component of a west wind. low clouds and fog might be slow to burn off here, but we'll have mostly sunny conditions. still muggy. not as humid as yesterday. 80s on the temps. 70s for others. here's sal. steve; we have a look at the commute at the bay bridge. it has been one of the toughest ones this morning. we had an earlier crash on the san francisco side off the bridge on westbound side. that crash is long gone. traffic is finally beginning to recover at the bay bridge toll plaza as the metering lights have been sped up a little bit. this is a 25 minute drive into san francisco. that's a big improvement.

i think on friday, things tend to improve faster. san mateo bridge could be an alternate. that's improving as well heading to the high-rise. i want to remind you that highway 37 is going to be shut down this weekend from 10:00 tonight to 5:00 on monday between 121 and 29. so plan ahead. southbound 101 in marin is messy right now because of an accident southbound 101 at alameda del prado. a new health threat in california. the state is seeing its first cases of a highly contagious respiratory illness attacking children. one child infected is 2 years old. katie utehs is live in the city of walnut creek talking to people who are critical in stopping the spread of the virus. >> reporter: absolutely, i spoke with two teachers, educators helping to stop the spread by teaching young children to wash their hands and could have into their elbows. those are the steps it's going to take to stop enterovirus because there's no vaccine and no prescribed treatment for

curing the virus. it's crucial to prevent the spread. there are now 4 confirmed cases of enterovirus d68 in california. the highly contagious respiratory virus has sickened more than 150 people nationwide. symptoms are similar to the common cold but the virus is especially dangerous for children. the respiratory infection can make it difficult for them to breathe. teachers and parents are our first line of defense to keep this from spread. >> i think that it makes us more aware of doing the precautions and reminding children about how to wash your hands, and we have taught them this since they have been little, and i teach 4th 4th grade. >> reporter: the department of public health says parents should take their children to the doctor if they have any difficulties breathing. kids with asthma are especially at risk. they'll make a wheezing noise when they catch this. the confirmed cases in california are from southern california, four in san diego county, one in ventura county, but the public health

calling police. >> mr. mcdonald felt strongly enough that he needed to call 911 as a result of his fiance possessing and holding a handgun. that in and of itself is very significant. he obviously called 911 for a reason. >> legal experts say this earlier incident could help mcdonald if he plans to say he was acting in self-defense when he was arrested on charges he attacked his pregnant fiance. the 49er defensive tackle has not been charged nearly three weeks after his arrest. the 49ers have decided to play mcdonald while he is under investigation for felony domestic violence, and you can now add the name of 49er legend jerry rice to the growing list of people who strongly disagree with that decision. >> it's very important to let people know that, you know, we're just not going to tolerate that. and the players need to recognize, that hey, look if i do something like that, i'm

less experienced company called california waste solutions last month. the new deal will have waste management pick up trash and green waste and drop the lawsuit against the city. california waste solutions will now handle the city's recycling, all of it. oakland city council is scheduled to vote on the deal on monday. and it's an important day for muni and its passengers today. at 11:00 this morning, san francisco mayor ed lee will sign a $648 million contract for new light rail cars. the first of these next generation vehicles are expected to roll out by the end of the year 2016. muni will buy 175 light rail vehicles with an option to buy 85 more. an audit found that the current fleet breaks down about every 600 miles. happening today, the largest public stock offering in u.s. history. alibaba's ipo hit wall street told, and pam cook has been watching the action action . she's in the studio with an

update on the extremely popular company. good morning pam. >> good morning. it's supposed to trade any moment now. this company so popular that the new york stock exchange has plenty of buyers for alibaba, still looking for people to sell the stock on the biggest ipo in u.s. history. alibaba rang the opening bell just a little more than two hours ago, but the well known founder, jack ma wasn't there. in fact no executives were there on the podium. the company asked customers instead including a cherry farmer from washington and a chinese olympian turned bracelet seller to ring the bell. that's because alibaba is china's largest ecommerce company. china is the largest ecommerce market. they estimate the online business will generate $540 billion in sales next year. the man behind the company is just as impressive. we heard from a former executive who worked with ma back in 2000 when alibaba had just moved its headquarters out

of a small apartment. >> he's someone who saw the future sort of predicted it and then built the company with a really long-term vision. more importantly than having the dream, he just could really see how he could grow ecommerce in china, and in a way build the economic institutions that the governments and the other institutions that failed to build, and so if you think of steve jobs created the operating system for the computer and the smart phone, jack ma created the operating system for commerce in china. >> alibaba stock priced at $68 a share, which is at the high end of expectations, but right now, still not trading yet on the new york stock exchange. indications are now that it will open somewhere between 92 and $93 a share, up almost $10 a share from the first hour of mornings on 2 when i was looking at the indications. there are about 30 million

software giant. larry ellison who is 70 years old announced mark hurd and safra will serve as chief executives. ellison will stay as board chairman and chief technology officer. ellison is the 5th richest man in the world, and was one of the last tech company founders to be a ceo. oracle stock is down right now nearly 5%. there's a big detour for drivers in the north bay this weekend. highway 37 which is the main road connecting solano, napa, and marin counties will be closed in both directions. caltrans will shut down the road at sonoma raceway and highway 29. crews need the road cleared of traffic while they do repaving work. the road is set to be closed yet again for more work the following weekend. speaking of traffic, we want to know what's going on right now on the roads, and sal's been kind of a another

down while officers searched for a shooting suspect who they believed drove to the airport and was hiding in the parking garage. he was taken into custody. two other people were arrested in connection with that shooting that took place not at the airport but in the nearby city of tempe. the situation left thousands of passengers delayed for hours, some missed their flight. >> they delayed our flight, which was fine. they they turned around and canceled it. >> by the time operations resumed there were 69 outbound flights delayed. passengers on a jet blue from long beach to texas got a scare after their a plane was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing. the pilot reported problems with one of the plane's two engines shortly after takeoff. passengers had to evacuate using emergency slides. they reported that the cabin filled with smoke. one person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. passengers were eventually placed onto another flight. and it's a day many apple
