vallejo side of 37. there's a few cones going up, those would be the last lights. the shut down is beginning. after a busy night working at boca tavern in nevado. emily smiley always appreciates her straight shot home to vallejo. a half hour drive most nights. >> i have already asked to leave early tonight so i can make the cut off. >> reporter: the cut off was 10:00. and neither direction will reopen until 5:00 a.m. monday. highway37 carries about 40,000 cars every day between solano and sonoma county and already backed up at peak times. now all those cars must divert. >> we're doing what we're calling dig outs. >> reporter: digging out damaged pavement and filling holes will occupy this weekend and then next weekend closed

mr. goodell doesn't seem to understand is that he should be aiming to make fundamental changes in the organization. a lot of ravens fans traded in their ray rice jerseys. the team allowed them to bring their jerseys to the stadium and then trade them in for another player's jerseys. you can see the line there stretches all the way along one side of the stadium. thousands of people took part in the event and the team expects the crowds to be just as large tomorrow. now to el dorado county where for the first time officials have confirmed homes have been lost in the massive king fire. there is no initial numbers but people who snuck in se they -- snuck in say they saw at least a dozen homes in flames.

amber lee has been speaking to people who say their homes are gone. >> reporter: people had a lot of questions, they wanted to know when they could go home or even if they have a home to go back to. >> reporter: the smoldering remnants of what was once a home, devastation left in the path of the king fire. >> it's sickening. it's horrifying and sickening. and it's just awful. >> sorry. >> reporter: with loss comes emotion. neighbors tried to comfort each other at a supermarket parking lot. a frequent gathering spot. >> i am sure they know that. >> reporter: we first met this couple last night. they told us their home was likely damaged or destroyed. tonight their capping off highway 50 in pollock pines as they wait for word. >> if it turns out so, we'll be pleasantly surprised but we're preparing for the worse. >> reporter: they say they haven't been able to get into the burn zone to check, but told them that several homes

had been destroyed. >> six were burned, four were saved. one that was burned took a house right between a couple of barns. >> reporter: they say they don't have an exact count yet. the assessment team is still at work. >> they could not even allow the assessment team until it was safe. i as a field person could not go in there until today. >> there was no stopping the fire. they dropped retardant, they dropped water. the air crews were -- >> reporter: this couple says they're confident they will weather the storm. >> the worse part is how hard it is physically. >> reporter: containment is still at 10%. reporting live in el el dorado county, amber lee. the man suspected of

starting the king fire made his first court appearance today. hunter made a plea of not guilty in a placerville court. the district attorney said it may depend on the number of homes lost. >> there are enhancements when there are more than five inhabited structures at this point we have not definitively confirmed that there, that that's actually occurred. >> huntsman is being held on $10 million bail. he's scheduled to return to court next month. so far investigators have not detailed what evidence led to his arrest. new at 10:00. san jose police are asking for the public's help to track down two kidnapping and sexual assault suspects. these are police sketches of the two men. police say they grabbed a girl from a bus stop, forced her into a van and then sexually assaulted her. all of this happened on tuesday at about 4:00 in the afternoon near saratoga avenue and campbell avenue.

the victim was dropped off near saratoga later. the men are described as latino in their 20s. police say they found the woman around 4:30 this afternoon at the intersection of otis and russell street that is just about a block away from a b.a.r.t. station. a man was detained running away tr the area. he has not been arrested at this point but he does match witness descriptions of the person who did it. police say the attack may have happened inside a car and they're asking anyone with information about the case to come forward. the san jose police department is paying tribute to its former chief joe mcnamara. mcnamara died this morning at his home he was 79 years old. san jose first became known as the safest large city in the u.s. during his 15 year tenure. after his retirement in 1991,

reelection campaign received illegal contributions if an undercover fbi agent. the brother of raymond shrimp boy chow's criminal defense attorney curtis briggs filed the suit. >> according to the lawsuit that cory filed, under cover agent 4773 is the one that allegedly bribed senator yee. >> reporter: after repeated requests, they learned ed lee's campaign received $500 from a michael a. king. the attorneys believe ed lee may be the unnamed elected official who allegedly received up to $20,000 from an undercover agent. the lawsuit does not site any hard evidence. the mayor's office today sent us a statement from ed lee's campaign team saying quote this is a baseless and frivolous lawsuit with absurd allegations. if and when the mayor's campaign receives any specific

information we will take appropriate actions. the mayor's spokeswoman said the fbi has never interviewed ed lee. and said lee sent this letter asking whether undercover fbi agents ever made donations to lee's campaign. and they urge answers. the civil lawsuit is one way chow's criminal team can dig up information. >> the defendants are reaching out to see if they can find exculpatory evidence to help them in the defense of the case. >> reporter: legal experts note that there is no proof of any wrong doing on lee's part in this lawsuit. instead it could just actually help to shed more light on this investigation. jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2

the number one problem addressed by the program came to a surprise to officers. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. police face problems on trains, stations and parking lots. so much so that the chief decided something had to be done. >> there was a high number of incidents happening with our coworkers and the passengers. so he wanted to find a way to curtail that. >> reporter: a pilot program that allows b.a.r.t. police officers to ban violent passengers and repeat offenders from the city. as the numbers started coming in police started seeing something else. among all the crimes that range from kidnapping to battery to assaults, it was domestic violence that actually topped the list. >> about 25% of the orders that we issued are reported domestic violence cases. >> reporter: about half of those cases involved participants. >> one of the court orders for the custody exchanges is b.a.r.t. is a neutral site. usually they will use b.a.r.t.

as a drop off for exchanges. >> reporter: in 2013 from may until december, out of 146 arrests and prohibition orders, 37 or 25% were for domestic violence. so far in 2014, 193 have been issued. about 37. almost 20% have been for domestic violence. the numbers didn't surprise one rider we talked to. >> no because people that have domestic violence they don't seem to give a crap where it is or who's around. >> it was a surprise because it was something we didn't start out trying to address. >> reporter: so b.a.r.t. is trying to address it now with a program that gives the officers the power to call a judge to get an order of arrest. it will declare that b.a.r.t. officers have the right to issue emergency protective orders. he has until the end of the

month to sign it. claudine wong, ktvu news. an intruder jumped the fence and made it to the front door. the intruders was caught just inside the portico doors. later agents could be seen searching the lawn. the incident happened after president obama and his daughters left for camp david. a man left and killed his daughter and six small children before turning the gun on himself. don spirit shot and killed his daughter and grandchildren before killing himself. spirit killed his 8-year-old son in what was determined to be a hunting accident. because spirit had an earlier

felony conviction he was not allowed to have a fun. -- allowed to have a gun. he was sentenced to three years in prison. his family says he deteriorated after his son's death. the second grove was destroyed yesterday in a corn field. a sheriff's spokesperson said no suspects were found at either site and so far there have been no arrests. more than half a million dollars to make the commute smoother and more reliable. when the first of these new light rail tracks will hit the tracks in san francisco. for animal lovers especially dog owners the video is hard to look at. dogs pulled from a home, missing fur and in some cases showing the rib cages. how an eviction may have been life saving for these animals.

the video is very hard to look at. sick, malnourished dogs rescued from a home in san francisco. the dogs were found abandoned following an eviction. cara liu is live with the story. >> reporter: the dogs are doing much better here tonight than they were when they were found and rescued two days ago. >> the chihuahuas are in really good shape. the terrier mixes are a different story. >> reporter: several terrier mixes are missing large amounts of their fur and you can easily see the outlines of their rib cages. officers say eight dogs in all, six terrier mixes and two chihuahuas were found living in squaller showing obvious signs

for dozens of american tourists their mexican vacation ended here in the belly of a u.s. military transport jet. the u.s. army sent this plane to cabo san lucas overnight to evacuate 70 americans. they've evacuated 20,000 tourists since the wake of odile. as americans escape from cabo we found an american couple facing a dilemma. they had planned to get married in cabo next month, and right now they have no idea what they're going to do. >> a moment frozen in time last year an engagement on the beach

and santa rosa checking in 62 degrees. right now here's our oakland camera looking toward the estuary. forecast is areas of fog, and skies becoming sunny. here we go tomorrow morning. low clouds and fog for your saturday. near the coast right around the bay. clouds clear back to near the coastline into the afternoon hours. still some patchy fog for the beaches. tomorrow night a big change in the overnight temperature pattern out there across the bay area. here's what's happening. this area of low pressure is over southern california right now. the circulation around this is drawing in that smoke and the haze from the king fire that happened today. really not too much change for tomorrow. we could have some haze approaching the region that once again is coming from the sierra to the king fire.
