load tonight. >> gus: 172 yards, three touchdowns for perine. and they'll run again. looks like it may be a tad short. we've been calling oklahoma games for the last few years. different kind of team, different kind of offense, rather. >> charles: and we've seen the evolution. when we first started calling these games, they kept talking about, we want to evolve back into a big, physical team. they've been much more oriented throwing this ball. 25 runs and 30 passes on the night for oklahoma. >> gus: third down and one. perine. first down. >> charles: yes, it was a process, wasn't it, gus.
8:01 pm
>> gus: yes, it was. >> charles: when we first started, they were much more inclined on third and short to throw the football. now third and short, they're thinking much more, we're going to run it. the offensive line got bigger and stronger. there's josh hypeel, play caller in the white shirt. great player when he was at ou, wasn't he. >> gus: talk he could be going to smu. >> charles: he's a life long football guy. son of a coach. groomed in the game. runner-up to the heisman when they won the national championship in 2000. >> gus: bob stoops came into this game one win away from becoming the first coach to register 100 regular season big 12 victories. a tremendous coach. first down and ten.

the play clock. >> gus: perine. outside. another first down. he has now gone over 2,000 yards rushing, 209, and three scores. look at this cut. >> charles: i mean, the vision of the young man, too. we talked about how much he likes to run the contact. freezes them in the hole. gets outside. the cut back inside on jeremy tyler. before he finishes the run. and oklahoma not afraid to ride the hot hand of the freshman carrying the ball. look at that, almost seven yards per carry for ou this evening. >> gus: down at the west virginia 19. perine. >> charles: it didn't take much prodding. coach, when we heard about this
8:04 pm

>> gus: here we go, folks. >> charles: wish us luck. >> gus: they call him oboe. we talked about it before the game, the beauty is that he's only had one tackle of the season. he says, every time you say that, here he comes. >> gus: we were told we could call him oboe. to the far side. this time it's short. oklahoma has about be given a lot of credit.
8:11 pm
they've made some awesome adjustments for the second half. >> charles: yeah, i thought the second half were pretty good plays there. they went to more of a coverage scheme. and then he changed up who he brought pressure with. remember the big stack by quentin hayes? they still played coverage downfield where they had man coverage with the free safety in the middle. but they took the normal hayes and ran him upfield. he blitzed and made a huge play. the change-up by mike stoops. >> gus: picks up the first down. i love when you asked him the question, you said, so you're calmer, more gentle this year? what happened? who is this guy? he said, hey, when you have players like i have, you don't have to really say very much. >> charles: yeah. you're a lot calmer. last year they had to do a lot more teaching because they had moved fully to the 3-4.
8:12 pm
this second year in, it's an experienced team. nine starters returning. not as much teaching involved. >> gus: stops him. here's how much calmer he is right here. >> charles: wow. so mike stoops, that is the epitome of calmness. now, let this ball get up in the end zone, and let's see if we get the same look out of coach. >> gus: remember, this game was tied at 24 at halftime. kevin white gets out of bounds. nice run after the catch. >> charles: i want to be very fair to zack sanchez here. i think he is playing hurt.
8:13 pm
>> gus: that shoulder. >> charles: he is out there doing the best he can. that's why kevin white is able to run through a good number of his tackles. >> gus: not even using that right arm. touchdown? yes, it is. 45-33. >> charles: let's see if they go for two here to make it a ten-point game. i would imagine they would. >> gus: smallwood coming back into the game. smith scores the touchdown. >> charles: we saw smith last year with a 75-yard touchdown against oklahoma. first points of the game on the board. >> gus: didn't get a lot of touches tonight.
8:14 pm
>> referee: previous play is now under review. >> charles: good job with the straight arm. and a second one. almost a lost art. and that certainly appears to be a touchdown, as the ball is breaking the plane. his foot hasn't touched the white. that should be a touchdown. >> gus: and sanchez, we'd like to see him take it out of the game now. he can't even use his right arm. >> charles: he's playing hurt. and he's playing with fortitude. he stayed out there. >> referee: after further review the ruling on the field is confirmed, touchdown. >> charles: it's been a tough night out there for him on the corner. he's not making the normal plays he can make. look, you're going to get some catches there. they're some of the best receivers in the country.
8:15 pm
but he's not able to come up and finish the play. he runs around it. he can't grip. look at him holding his shoulder, carrying it delicately, but not wanting to come out of the football game. he's a competitor. >> gus: tough kid. white in motion. striker delivers the blow. 45-33 the score. 2:12 to play.
8:16 pm
>> gus: 45-33, oklahoma. west virginia continues to fight. they felt that this was their night, on their home field, with the quarterback and an offense that's been putting up big numbers. fifth ranked passing offense in the nation. game tied at 24 at halftime. but the second half, a totally different story. >> charles: oklahoma's been there so many times. bob stoops goes into halftime, guys, let's just get back to our game. and you know of the onside kick coming up. they've got two kickers on the field. so oklahoma has to guess at which side it's going to come from. molinari and lambert.
8:17 pm
>> gus: shepard. >> charles: dimitri flowers had the first shot at it. and it bounced off of him. and shepard, alertly jumps on the loose ball. flowers there. and shepard attacks the football and comes up and gets it. that's what you have to do with onside kicks. it won't come to you, you have to go get it. and he did exactly that. >> gus: wanted that onside kick. >> charles: gives his team another opportunity. >> gus: oklahoma back on the field. 498 yards in total offense, 289 yards rushing, 209 yards passing.
8:18 pm
samaje perine has gone over 200 yards. let's go to los angeles for a game break. >> gus, thanks. tallahassee, number one florida state struggling without their suspended heisman winner. watson, two-yard touchdown. the tigers lead 17-10 in the fourth. back to you. >> gu >> charles: personally, i thought florida state would come together today and play their best game of the year. and clemson came into this, their attitude was, it doesn't matter who plays. we've had guys not play because of injuries and that. florida state trailing. lsu lost at home to mississippi state. it's been a tough day. missouri, losing at home to indiana. the big ten would love that victory. >> referee: second charged time-out, oklahoma. 30-second time-out.

8:20 pm
staying inbounds. >> charles: oh, the football iq comes to the front there, doesn't it, gus. >> gus: and what also impresses me about samaje, is they're confident in him enough to let him play on passing downs, and his pass protection is very good. >> charles: i love the observation. how many times have you heard that in the course of your career. we can't put him on the field yet because he doesn't have the pass protection. and we're like, yeah, but he might run for 250. you might want to hand it to him. as you notice, he's able to do it all. >> gus: 239 yards rushing. adrian peterson had 240 as a freshman. picks up three there. 242 yards rushing for samaje perine. the tank they call him. and he gave us a perfect illustration as to why he was given that nickname. >> charles: mature, mature,
