getting on to the freeway. the driver did stop and authorities say neither drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor. police announced an arrest in a brutal assault on a 75- year-old woman. it happened friday near russell street. the victim is still in critical condition. she is a 72-year-old woman from oakland. police say they caught an 18- year-old running from the scene. he will be arraigned tomorrow on charges including attempted homicide and carjacking. new information on a security breach that white house. a review is underway after a man jumped the fence to walk inside the white house itself carrying a knife. ktvu's justin gray learned more about the suspect and the changes. >> we learned authorities found 800 rounds of ammunition in omar gonzalez's car. and that during a previous arrest earlier they found a

boarder. authorities say a 22-year- old was hiking with four friends yesterday when they came face to face with a bear. all of them ran off in different directions and when they met up later he was missing. police later found his body two hours after that and they found a bear nearby the body and killed it. they are doing tests to be sure it was the same bear. authorities say this is the first deadly bear attack in new jersey in 150 years. workers with the golden gate bridge labor coalition are poised to stage a strike that could hit home for some commuters. they are fighting the proposal to increase healthcare premiums. last week a group of machinists picketed but service was not

a woman from san jose whose burned body was discovered last month. the sheriff's office released this photo of the suspect. 21-year-old edgardo gutierrez of san jose. they say evidence at the crime scene and witness statements led to his arrest. the victim in the case is 35- year-old julie teresa calocci. her body was set on fire and discovered near morgan hill. we have an update on developing news we told you about on the peninsula, the fire department says that a fire on a 25-foot cabin cruiser is under control. it started near the bear island center after 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. investigators are trying to figure out the cause. the coast card and fish and wildlife have a also been notified as a precaution. we are told there were no injuries. a demolition project in the east bay today brought out

at least three bay area law enforcement agencies are using controversial technology that could track cell phones and collect data in real time. it is called stingray. we discovered police in the east bay are in the process of trying to upgrade their system to make it even more powerful. ktvu's christien kafton tells us what we know about how it works. >> reporter: the stingray, a device that acts like cell phone tower forcing mobile founs to route through it and allowing police to pinpoint a location. three agencies are using the technology and now two are

applying for a upgrade. but no one in law enforcement is talking about it on camera. what the device is capable of and what happens to data collected is still unknown. >> with devices like this you are not going to see phony tower and think there it is, i spotted it. >> reporter: a stingray helped authorities catch a man in 2008 for filing fraudulent tax returns. >> there is a document that mentioned it. there was one sentence that alluded to it. >> reporter: the stingray is mounted inside a police vehicle, and fooling mobile phones into connecting with it. it can then triangulate a familiar phone to within 9 feet. they are trying to purchase an
