world's police force but that they could offer help to syria. two young men say they were driving this bmw when two men in another car started shooting at them. the driver of the bmw then took off and he says the masked men followed them on the northbound 880. one bullet went through the windshield. the car went off the road at the 56th avenue exit. the shooters then drove away. a medivac plane had to make an emergency landing tonight. this picture shows the plane on the east field. the planes nose landing gear won't deploy so it was forced to land without it. no one on that plane was hurt but an ambulance was called to the patient on board. at this point we don't have information on that person or

where that person was taken. workers could be on the verge of a strike. ferry workers could walk off of the job at the end of the week. this is video from last week when a group of machinists staged a one day walk out. the district says there has been no movement in negotiations, we tried to contact the union but they did not return our call for comment before this newscast. the future of the new transbay transit center under construction in san francisco could be in serious trouble because of how it's going to be paid for. today san francisco board of supervisors approved a deal to fund the transit center. under that deal downtown developers would fund construction and extend caltrans but since it was first agreed on. several developers have backed out. the san francisco chronicle is reporting that those developers

are now threatening to sue the city putting both projects in jeopardy. police arrested two men today accused of stealing cars from two san mateo car dealersships. they may be linked to similar cars in other bay area cities. now authorities in belmont, san jose and santa clara are working with san mateo police to see if the burglaries are connected. we get new information from amber lee from san mateo with how the men were caught. >> reporter: we're at tracks and dealership here in san m ateo police tell us it was surveillance video from this lot that helped them break this case. the general manager of tracks auto showed us this video of thieves broking into these cars. >> we received some information from the alameda county district attorney's office. who they believe they were able to possibly identify one of the

people. >> reporter: that's what led them to open this morning where they arrested 19-year-old marquis lakes. and moufassa haulcy: he says half the cars on his lot cannot be sold since thieves stole keys. and that rekeying dozen of cars is expensive and a hard process. old vahn motors was also targeted by thieving early sunday. eight vehicles that were in the shop for repairs were stolen. >> how they chose the vehicle we can only speculate. probably using the key box to see which cars unlocked. >> reporter: in addition a

mercedes dealership was also targeted. law enforcement officials are working together. as for tracks, the keys are no longer left on the premise after closing. the cars are parked in way to make them difficult to remove from the lot. >> it's destroyed the way we do business here. it's probably going to take a few months for us to recooperate. >> two were recovered in oakland near where the suspects were arrested. police say they plan to make more arrests. amber lee, ktvu news. two thousand more firefighters are battling the king fire despite progress

tonight dozens of oakland school teachers wearing bright green shirts brought a message to the oakland school board meeting. the teachers were holding signs calling for fair contracts. the teachers union says the district has received $38 million in new funding over the last four years. the teachers did receive a 2% raise in their current contracts but they said they

have no raise in their previous contract. there is a creative new incentive for students to attend a new school in san francisco. it's the first new campus in the city in years. but that's not enough to fill the classrooms. new at 10:00, heather holmes is in san francisco with the incentive plan being considered tonight, healther. >> reporter: julie, bad reputations are hard to come back from that's right for schools too. that's why for the very first time the school board is inside discussing whether to offer parents a perk for sending their children to this school. it's still under construction but already has a bad wrap. the willie l. brown middle school is going up. >> i think it's going to be a showcase school. >> reporter: once work is complete on the sprawling state of the art facility, students will come. but amidst their worried they

debating to approve. the debate just began so no vote yet. reporting live tonight, i'm heather holmes, ktvu channel 2 news. walnut creek police are putting out a call for surveillance video that might show a crime in progress just before noon today police say a man with a gun approached a woman in front of her home on muller road. they say he then forced her to drive him in her car to the bank of america on main street. once there, he demanded that she withdraw money. investigators say the two then drove back to her neighborhood where the suspect got out of her car and drove off. >> we're asking residents that live in that area the area of muller road. if anyone has any video is that points to the street that would have seen this suspect or anybody that was potentially one of his accomplices. >> reporter: the victim spoke with a teller. invest

investigators say that's probably because the suspect -- in just minutes the section of the interstate 80 is set to close and the detour is 56 miles long. happening now reporting mallory hoff is live with word that the project is already under way. >> reporter: this is a very complicated projects. crews certainly have their work cut out for them this evening. as you see roads remain open but will be closed in a matter of minutes. that's where caltrans workers will take a series of hydraulic jacks. they will very slowly or evenly raise them up. every quarter inch they will put steel plates beneath them to make sure they're secure. that process will happen over and over again. how fast, well, 2.3-inches an hour. this road was built in the

1950s. >> right now a lot of these trucks cannot get under this stricture because they are just too short. >> reporter: it does not meet federal standard for high profile vehicles and national defense. it's the first structure that will be lift as part of the caltrans raise 80 project. >> for emergency response, a lot of command centers such as fema and emergency services cannot get under these structures. they have to detour which you do not want during an emergency. >> reporter: i80 traffic in both directions will be detoured. a 56-mile detour, some call it a potential headache. >> extremely difficult when you're passing those quick little sines you -- signs, you will see one part of the message then the other and you don't know what's going on. >> reporter: six will be the bridge raised about 3 feet, three will have the roadway

portland and seattle. it's going to dump up to 3- inches of rain in northern california. maybe an inch of rain in redding. for us, showers will come into the bay area just in time for your morning commute on thursday. we've got fog offshore right now actually on shore. we have the big deep marine layer. it's pushed all the way inland. it's up into antioch. it'll easily get up to the vacaville area. everybody has fog tonight right now. we wake up tomorrow morning. it's cloudy, clouds burn off and temperatures warm off a touch. it's kind of interesting how with all the cloud cover it's warm outside. 66 in napa, it's kind of sticky and muggy out there. we're blowing. we have gusts to 30 miles per hour. it's transporting all that cool air inland. tomorrow setting up much like today. and then late in the day the clouds start to increase. and then we get a chance for showers by 10:00 tomorrow night at this time i'll probably have

warnings are going out in santa rosa after a half dozen suspicious meat balls were found in a dog park. some people believe the meat balls were tainted. cara liu talked to the dog owner who made the discovery and tells us what's being done now. >> reporter: i think it's just cruel. >> reporter: sepulveda and his dog were at a place for parks to play when he and another man discovered suspicious looking meat balls. >> raw meat with little green flakes, like pine nuts or something in them. clearly tainted. >> reporter: he stayed for hours after ward to caution others. >> i was very upset. i was concerned because he had

found one also. he was nosing around and i was just concerned. i didn't want him to be injured. i didn't want anyone elses dog to be injured. >> reporter: they found eight suspect meat balls on the trail and on a back trail in the park. they confirmed they are an inch in diameter and look very similar to those in the pines creek neighborhood that were credited for claims several dogs. >> could this be that somebody doesn't want dogs in the area or has problems with dogs roaming in the park. >> reporter: so far there's no reports that any dogs were poisoned but signs have gone up alerting owners that suspected food has been found. if you see anything suspicious,

of them were dead. ktvu's azenith smith in east san jose with what she has been able to learn so far. >> reporter: i just talked to police and they plan to be here for several hours investigating the shooting. this is a look at the crime scene here. police are looking for evidence and they are looking for suspects. here's what we know. just before 9:00 tonight, san jose police got a call from a resident inside the house saying several people had been shot at 36 rancho drive. when police got here they found two adult men inside the home shot at least once. both victims were found dead inside the home. here's what authorities can tell us about this crime. >> it's crime, we're going to do the best we can to apprehend this suspect. >> reporter: a third person was

shot. a woman. she was taken to a local hospital and is she is expected to survive. the motive for this shooting is unclear. we're told this is the 27th and 28th homicide of the year. reporting live in san jose, azenith smith, ktvu news. concord police say the victim of a stabbing over the weekend died today. investigators say 23-year-old avivo was stabbed. it happened outside a hell's party. police arrested twoen cocord men in connection with that attack. carlos brasher and dominique masoni. >> the santa clara city council tonight approved a resolution reaffirming the city's commission in the wake of 49er defensive lineman ray mcdonald. the resolution was proposed by the group next door.

it's a domestic violence nonprofit that called for mcdonald to be benched. the resolution calls for the city of santa clara, the 49ers and nfl to do all they can to eradicate domestic violence. cal state university is taking steps to provide more health to victims of sexual assault on campus. csu is hiring victims advocates at all 23 campuses. a csu spokesperson says six schools already had those advocates. the rest will be in place by next june. it will provide contributions. ktvu's claudine wong tells us it's all part of a project to make buildings smarter. >> reporter: it takes just

august 17. carlos and his 20-year-old cousin valensia were headed back home stopped at a light when a speeding black mercedes lost control, rolled over causing eight other cars to crash. the two rushed to one of the passengers. >> and i go and i look inside and you know there's some guy with his belt on. and he's on fire. his legs are on fire, his arms are on fire and he's screaming and moving. >> he just started saying, i'm on fire. take me out of here. take me out of here. >> reporter: within seconds they pulled him out and helped douse the flames. >> i had a shirt like this one but a white one. i took it off and started hitting him with it until the flames went out. >> i am just going to ask you to give them a big round of applause. >> reporter: the city council commending them for their quick thinks and action for saving that passengers life. for these two, they don't believe what they did was anything out of ordinary hoping others would do the same. >> i see someone in pain asking

one long-standing issue is the delays and ambulance response times fueled by a shortage of staff and ambulances. the chief says that's changing. >> the people that we hired in july. we hired 22 emts we're already seeing huge progress. >> reporter: mayor ed lee said right now he does not think her job is in jeopardy. san francisco supervisor campos introduced a legislation to help make an hiv drug accessible to people. the retail price for a month's supply can range as high as $2,000. supervisor campos wants the city to release about $800,000 to help make the drug affordable to more people.

major beverage makers are calling for the reduction of calories in drinks by 2025. the company says they plan to introduce more lower calorie drinks and smaller sizes. beverage companies have seen soda sales fall. and the president spoke in a general assembly on a global warming treaty. >> we cannot condemn our children and their children to a situation that they have no way to retrieve. >> there was little evidence of

that today. they would not sign a pledge to halt the destruction of forestland. and the united states decided not to join 73 countries in supporting a price on carbon emissions. today was a busy day for bears in bakers field. a full grown male black bear was found at one home while a female bear turned up at another residents chased into a tree by a family dog. a fish and wildlife spokeswoman says the drought is driving hungry thirsty bears into residential areas where they can find food and water. rangers were able to use tranquilizers on the bear and they were then taken back into the wild to be released. a nice looking day out there today. the clouds have moved in and they'll be there in the morning before you wake up. it might be a little warmer tomorrow or about the same as what we had today. these are the numbers from

today. highs tomorrow we stay a little warm -- warmer but not much. here's the system we're tracking. as you slide south as you know you get out of the stronger dynamics in producing the most rain. as this system moves on shore from cape mendecino north they could see a couple of inches of rain in some places. this line south you're going to be in the inch, from here to the bay area we're going to be down .1 to .25 of an inch. .5 if we're lucky. it's not a ton of rain but what we will see is a -- low clouds are all over the area and they're going to be there when you wake up and burn off slow. mild out there. kind of sticky, muggy. 67 in antioch. you already saw this one. it pushes inland tomorrow morning. that's not just fog that's low clouds being pushed in advance of this next weather system.

it then ends up a lot tomorrow like it did today. everyone a little cooler. along the coast you're going to see lots of 60s. the forecast then for the fire zones will be for this system to move in on thursday. that's going to drop temperatures increase humidities and it's going to help with the fire. and here is what the model does. this model has been changing hour by hour and it will change again tomorrow morning. here we are tomorrow night. let's say we're getting a little bit of sprinkles. maybe some showers, 4:00 a.m. it starts to move. there's not much behind it and then there you go. here is what i noted. this is in the most recent model. it sagged this tail toward the sag. that's some rainfall that could help a bunch. that's more than you anticipated.
