"mornings on 2" begins right now. you are looking live at the larkspur ferry terminal where there's no service because ferry captains are staging a strike. this means thousands of commuters are having to find another way to get to work. tara moriarty is there and coming up in two minutes, she will tell us why people who were planning to use the bus as a backup plan are facing a new unexpected problem. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." it's friday, september 26th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve is coming bag. do you see any rain in our forecast? >> i do. it's not -- rain was yesterday. this is more scattered showers. but there will be some, yes, and the sierra nevada could get in on wild weather over the

weekend. more likely on saturday than sudden. for us, the system is swinging in. so far there's not opinion too much. there's been a couple of sprinkles, light showers. the higher clouds are racing overhead, marin county, napa, sonoma county in add vance of that. mostly cloudy. 50s on a lot of these temperatures. there's pockets of fog out there. walnut creek down to 52. a little cooler air mass beginning to spill. the coolest air will spin in. it's almost impossible to pinpoint it. i'm covering myself. sun and clouds. maybe showers this afternoon. 70s. warm ocean temperatures from pacifica to antioch. here's sal. >> good morning. we're looking at traffic that's getting busier now. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see it's backed up for about a 25-minute delay. but the 880 approach is good. people often ask me which is the best way to approach. right now, that interstate

would be 880 ramp, especially if you have fastrack. also the commute on 880 itself in oakland and so far we're having a pretty good day here in both directions. marin county southbound 101 near north san pedro, there was a four-car non-injury accident. it's being moved off the freeway. but southbound 101 from novato to san rafael is getting slower and happening now, thousands of north bay commuters are scrambling to find another way to get to work. that could include driving getting into san francisco. boat captains are on strike. tara moriarty is in larkspur with more. >> reporter: there are no more buses running from the larkspur ferry terminal. we've received word that actually bus routes have been affected because a lot of drivers called in sick. of 915 routes, 13 have been canceled. santa rosa has been hit hard. you will be looking at longer wait times and more crowded buses. you can see there's picketers

here. there have been quite a few of honks of support from passing traffic. there are 9,000 people from the north bay who will have to find another way to work this morning. the reason the golden gate bridge district is offering raises of 9%. captains want 12% ba they will have to way -- because they will have to pay more for healthcare. commuters here seem to be taking it in stride. one man we spoke to decided to bike to work this morning. >> i think it's a good way for the engineers and pilots to voice their opinion and get it across. i mean, certainly it disrupts the commute and makes a point. >> reporter: you will be able to burn calories. >> that's right. i thank them for that. >> reporter: the district says fridays are typically. but that's backfired with all of those unexpected sick calls. now, friday's ballpark ferry

has canceled. giants' fans will have to make other plans. contract negotiations are set to resume on monday. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:04. now to the developing news we've been following about a fire at an faa control tower in illinois that's stopped most flights at chicago's o'hare and midway airports and that is having a ripple effect on flights all across the country. brian flores has found out about some canceled flights at sfo. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yeah, this is having a ripple affect, not just in -- effect, not just in chicago but across the country and in the bay area. there are cancellations and more delays since we saw you 30 minutes ago. i just checked with the website flight aware.com. according to the website, flee flights scheduled to leave from sfo to chicago have been canceled. they are a southwest flight scheduled to leave at 6:25.

an american airlines flight scheduled to leave at 6:00 and now another american airlines flight scheduled to leave at 10:10 this morning have been canceled. also at least three delays from sfo, two from united, one m virgin america. this is sp in response to -- in response to the suspicious fire that broke out in chicago. along with the fire police in aurora, there was a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the basement of the center. unclear whether that's connected to the fire. as we take it back out here live, at least for the flyers that are heading to chicago, this is having a ripple affect not just here so check with the airline. there are flights from san jose to chicago being impacted. san jose airport just getted that out -- tweeted that out moments ago. if you are headed to chicago or expecting family from that area as well, check with your

airline this morning. we're live here in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. there are new fears this morning about corrosion on the new span of the bay bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports several of the steel rods that anchor the span may have corroded due to water leaks on the bridge. caltrans found the water last week and believes the leaks may date back to 2010 before the tower was lowered into position. officials say the water has been drained but it is still unclear whether any rods were damaged. demolition of the original eastern span of the bay bridge is moving along. crews are taking apart the 78- year-old bridge in roughly the reverse order of how it was built. demolition started back in april. so far about 800 feet of the bridge has been taken down. the gap just keeps getting larger by the day. the entire demolition project is expected to be complete in about four years.

in detroit, a truck driver was killed after his truck hit a pedestrian bridge causing it to collapse onto the freeway. the incident caused traffic to back up for miles stranding drivers, including detroit lions' quarterback matthew stafford. no one was on the bridge at the time of the crash. investigators are investigating what caused the truck driver to hit the bridge. a campuswide safety alert at st. mary's has been issued. a student was sexually assaulted last week. administrators are giving few details but say the victim was touched inappropriately. of pleasonton will impose militaries on those who don't conserve water. the community as a whole slashed their water use by a third, well, the city will ease the fines. according to the contra costa times, pleasanton's water

conservation rate is among the top ten in the state. by the end of the year, thecy of santa rosa could decide to implement new and tougher anti-smoking laws. they will hold meetings about possible changes. the proposals include extending the ban to apartment buildings and condominiums where the units are separated by a single wall. cilticks a historic building in redwood city is going up for sale for $1 but there is a catch. here's a picture of the small queen anne victorian from google's street view. it sits on wilson street where a developer wants to build a new apartment building. because of the building's historic status, the developer will have to put the house up for sale for $1. only condition is that the buyer has to mosque the building off the property.

if no one buys it within 90 days, it can be torn down. east bay politicians are joining forces to try to remove thousands of eucalyptus trees from the oakland hills. 12 officials sent a letter to the federal government asking for $5 million in funding to cut down the trees. the concern is that their oily wood and dry leaves pose a huge fire risk. in fact, they were cited as one of the big reasons the 1991 oakland hills fire spread so quickly. the trees are not native to the bay area. they were planted here at the end of the 19th century by two oakland businessmen who unsuccessfully tried to use them for lumber. 7:10. this week's rain, it's really helping those firefighters on the king fire east of sacramento. that fire is now 55% contained after burning more than 95,000 acres in the sierra nevada foothills.

289 homes and plgs still threatened -- buildings still threatened but that's a big improvement from yesterday morning. six people have been hurt. a dozen homes have burned since this fire started almost two weeks ago. some san francisco firefighters up there fighting the king fire, they are now back home. and we were there as they unpacked their gear last night after spending almost a week on the fire lines. we can tell you that no firefighters from san francisco were hurt in the fire. they are just heroes. >> yes. >> all of the work they do. >> yeah, tori. growing concerns about a potential terror plot targeting u.s. transit systems. coming up at 7:30, the steps b.a.r.t. is taking even though there are questions about whether this plot is real. how some tiny insects causing big traffic problems and why the solution calls for, well, an unappetizing plastic. right now, we're looking at the south bay commute.

out who purchased several winning lottery tickets in northern california. a superlotto ticket worth $11 million was sold in stockton. the winner has not yet come forward. but surveillance video from the store where the ticket was sold appears to show the woman who bought the lucky ticket. >> i would be dancing. $11million. can't complain about that. >> if the winner decides on a lump sum, the take-home is $6.5 million. that's before federal tickses. the owner of the gas station will get a $55,000 prize for selling the winning ticket. we're also waiting for the winner of the big $228 million powerball ticket that was sold in san mateo to come forward. the winning ticket was sold at the keys market on nordocument street. it would be about $100 million after taxes. owner of the store gets $1

million. if you haven't checked your ticket yet, the winning numbers are 7, 14, 24, 41, and 21. and the powerball number is 26. >> i did not win. >> i didn't either. this morning, little insects causing big traffic problems in central california. now, ants have been chewing through electrical wires. knocked out the traffic lights at a busy intersection in vie visalia. they are attracted to the insulated coating on the old wires. people who live in the area say they are not surprised. >> that makes sense. we have a real bad ant problem. >> i hope the city gets it fixed soon. we do have children in the area. >> the city's public works director says the wiring will have to be pulled out and replaced by thicker, bundled wires. he says the new wires will be coded code -- coated kind of plastic that ants don't like and won't eat. we want to check in with sal. apparently there is a new crash in martinez. >> yeah, it sounds pretty bad.

northbound 680 as you come up to pacheco, there is a crash and now, unfortunately, getting word that one person has died as a result of their injuries following this accident. northbound 680 before pacheco. this crash is backing traffic up. northbound from highway 4. the commute direction is southbound and the lanes there are not blocked but people are slowing to take a look just after the benicia bridge heading south to concord. give yourself extra time. we have a crew on the way to this serious crash. let's take a look now at the toll plaza of the bay bridge on a friday. things are just a little bit lighter than usual. still means you are waiting about 20 minutes to get across the bridge to the san francisco side. and in the valley, 280 northbound out of downtown san jose looks good. there will be a little bit of slow traffic approaching highway 17. but that's about all. 85 and 101 are better than they normally are. we're looking at marin county traffic and so far it's just moderate on 101. we'll have more on the ferry

boat strike. that's coming up very soon. but now the weather. here's steve. >> thank you, sir. some sunbreaks here. there's going to be an increase in clouds later on, especially this afternoon. it will be a much bigger event for the sierra. we could get a few scattered showers. some of the higher cloud streaming in towards the north bay, mainly marin county. it's back here. there's a couple of showers still off the mendocino coast. they haven't moved much. as this moves in. it will destabilize the atmosphere a little bit. but the sierra -- things are already popping up in the sierra. there will be rain up there. and maybe as this low -- as this forms, it closes off over nevada might give them know up around 8,000 feet. some of the clouds increasing over the north bay. there comes the system as it slopes in. we'll mention thunderstorm activity. 50s on the temps to 60s. there is a big spread, some as

much as 10 degrees and 134 and pockets of fog as well. up upper 50s for pittsburg and brentwood. walnut creek has dipped to 54. la fayette and orinda, 56. and 57. monterey this morning, 4:00 a.m., 66 degrees. san francisco buoy, 64. this system did not give us the northwest breeze yet. has not given us the upwells. a lot of people heading to reno, i would probably drive to be honest with you. this system will close off into a low and then just send in a lot of bands or a series of systems as it goes into the sierra. for us, partly sunny, partly cloudy. scattered showers are possible. any thundershower activity would be north and east later on. saturday we're on the dry side. there will be showers popping up. the forecast model is kind of missing on this. by 5:00 could be thundershowers but watch what happens on

they lost to the texas rangers 2-1 last night while the wild card hopefuls won their games. oakland has dropped into the second wild card spot one game behind the royals. the as magic spot is at 2 with three games to play in texas. giants' legend willie mccovey will miss an awards ceremony that's close to his heart. the 76-year-old baseball legend is still? the hospital recovering from complications from an infection. he will not be able to make it to tonight's presentation of the willie mack award at at&t park. the annual award honors the giants' most inspirational player on and off the field. this will be the first time mccovey has missed the award ceremony since it was first handed out in 1980. and a massive police search in san jose after reports of a burglary. the actions of an alert neighbor that led to three

and ended up back on its wheels. the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for 15, 20 minutes into san francisco. if you are trying to get in the valley today, 237, traffic here on 237 is moderately heavy. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you, sal. new this morning -- an early-morning fire has an oakland family looking for a temporary home. the fire broke out at 420 on east -- 4:20. five adults and four children were able to escape without injury. the red cross is helping the family with a place to live. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. 7:32. well, b.a.r.t. and other transit systems around the bay area, they have tighter security. it's all in response to a possible terror threat from the islamic state. the b.a.r.t. police told ktvu just this morning there are extra b.a.r.t. officers on patrol in certain parents of the system. b.a.r.t. wants you to be on the lookout

for anything suspicious. there are no threats being made against b.a.r.t. or other american transit systems. iraq's prime minister told reporters at the u.n., his country uncovered alleged plots on subways in new york and france. >> we have received information, which in the eyes of the united states government and the nypd is not verified. what we're doing is taking precautions until we have more information. >> now, new york city leaders are urging the new yorkers to go about your daily lives as usual. don't live in fear. they say the city always operates at a higher state of security since it is always considered a terror target. the fbi director says about a dozen americans are believed to be fighting alongside extremist groups in syria right now. james comey says earlier reports said 100 reports of

americans fighting in syria. he said that's not correct. he said that number includes those who tried to go to syria and were arrested or went there and fought and came back. he also says all of the americans who did come back after fighting with extremist groups, they are being investigated, they are under surveillance or they've been arrested. he also says the fbi thinks they know the name of this man, the masked isis militant who speaks in the recent beheading videos. the videos show the executions of two american journalists in the british aide worker. that man dressed in black speaks with a british accent. the fbi is not revealing his name or nationality. back here at home, mineta airport has tougher new security measures after two high-profile security breaches earlier this year. the airport is testing thermal imaging cameras along the perimeter. administrators will try to improve internal communications and also how i.d.

others burglaries. officers arrivedded a found one man serving as a lookout and two others in the home breaking into a safe. police say this was a good example of how the community can partner with them. the police officers association released new statistics regarding property crime. now in 2010, 47 million was reported stolen property in the city of san jose and the latest numbers show it's now up to 76 million. >> i hope it doesn't go higher. but we know that our police staffing is continuing to go down. our staffing trend is down, burglaries interest trending up -- are trending up. we worry while this is an all- time high it may not be the highest it gets. >> reporter: the police officers association is concerned because the burglary investigation unit was cut, more retirements are happening in the police department and officers have left to go to other cities, better pay and

benefits. we're told the officers who arrested the burglars yesterday were working overtime. police say while they are working hard to try to do more with less, residents can help combat crime. any time you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood, people who you don't think belong there, alarm your house, report it, and they also recommend forming a neighborhood watch group. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. mountain view police still looking for answers in the mystery surrounding two bodies found inside an apartment. police and firefighters were called to the building on california street wednesday night after receiving reports of a strong gas-like odor. tests show that gas contains two levels of high -- high levels of two potentially toxic chemicals. investigators are still not sure if chemicals caused the death but they did cause fumes strong enough to force

evacuations. they could have, you know, exploded or at least caught on fire or something like that. that's why it was important to air everything out and have everyone evacuated as well. >> police now say a note found at the scene was not a suicide note as first reported. but they are still not revealing what was written on the note. they also have not identified the two people found dead inside the apartments. a man in san rafael is fighting for his life after a shooting that started with an argument. it happened yesterday afternoon on novato street. police say two groups of people got into a fight and someone pulled out a gun and shot the victim. the injured man drove off in a jeep cherokee and was found a few blocks away on winward way. at this point, police have no information on the gunman. thieves already targeting the new iphone 6. ktvu's alex savidge took this photo just minutes after iphone 6s were stolen yesterday from the

berkeley apple store. now, berkeley police rushed over there around 5:00 p.m. but so far, there's still no record of any arrests. this is the same apple store robbed back in may and here's video of a car. it smashed right through the front window. in that case, police say burglars stole 40,000 worth of iphones, ipads and laptops. a viewer sent us a tip yesterday, someone stole iphones from a store in san francisco yesterday. well, apple and google, they are getting praise for making new smartphones better than ever at protecting private information. but the fbi's director said that's a big problem for criminal investigators. james comey criticize sized a decision by -- criticized a decision by apple and google to encrypt smartphone information making it inaccessible to law enforcement even with a court order. he cited child kidnapping and terrorism is information that

can save lives. the fib director says the new -- fbi director says the new smartphones allow criminals to put themselves beyond the reach of the law. apple has released a fix to its operating system. apple yanked its first software update to ios 8 after getting complaints from customers about not being able to make phone calls or use the fingerprint scanner. ple said the new ios 8 version 2 fixes the version. apple's stock was dragged down yesterday. this morning stocks are higher on news the u.s. economy expanded at an annual rate of 4.6% in the spring. that's the gassest space in two years. the dow is up 73. the nasdaq is up 17 and the s&p 6. cybersecurity experts are scrambling to stop a dangerous new computer bug that could be worse than last spring's

heartbleed bug that infected 500,000 computers. it's called the shell shock bug or bash bug. some hackers have reportedly used to get into server by adding code to the bash software program used on many operating systems, including apple. >> it literally is hey, web surfer run this program that allows me to completely take over your computer. >> the bug was exposed wednesday night. since then, people worldwide have been rushing to install patches. windows computers are not affected because they don't run the bash software. however, apple is expected to come out with a patch in the coming days. 7:41. thousands of people in the bay area forced to find another way to work this morning. coming up in the next hour of "mornings on 2," the strike and sick calls affecting computers. ride-sharing companies could soon face legal actions. the accusations against them

six people and injured more than a dozen others. deputies and campus police are stepping up patrols in the wake of the shooting and several other incidents including riots and sexual assaults. >> had a young woman fall off the cliff and die. we had two sexual assaults involving multiple suspects. we had civil disobedience where deputies and civilians were injured. we had a mass murder. >> campus police have also hired more officers to improve response and uc santa barbara has brought in officers from other uc campuses to help with patrols in the new school year. 7:45. a new cancer drug developed by stanford researchers may one day replace chemotherapy as a cancer treatment. the san francisco chronicle reports this drug appears to interrupt the process that causes cancer cells to spread through the body. the experimental therapy has only been tested in mice. it may be years before it's approved for use in hue maps.

crash in martinez near the pacheco exit. we had a picture taken by a reporter who drove past the scene. northbound 680 is almost completely blocked. this is having a big effect on the freeways nearby. highway 4 is slow because people are slowing down approaching 680. this is very close to the highway 4/680 interchange. southbound interstate 680 is also slow after the benicia bridge because of rubberneckers. one person reported killed in the crash that happened about an hour ago, almost an hour and a half ago on northbound 680 before pacheco. one overturned vehicle. westbound bay bridge, this is backed up for a little bit. but not a huge delay coming into the city. we're looking at the commute here on 880 northbound. it's getting a little bit slow as you pass the coliseum. let's go back to the desk. happening right now, a one- day strike at the golden gate

ferry service. riders who normally take the ferry between marin county in san francisco are out of luck today. ktvu's tara moriarty is live at the larkspur ferry terminal where a growing number of terminals have joined the picket line. >> reporter: good morning. actually, the people who are technically on strike are the 16 ferry captains asking for a better contract. you can see that engineers and deck hands are standing in solidarity with him. 9,000 people from the north bay had to scramble to find another way to work this morning. the reason, the captains are angry that the golden gate bridge district is offering 9% raises over three years. captains want 12%. they say that they will have to pay more for healthcare anyway. the district argues that its captains make $83,000 a year and outearn those others by far. commuters are taking it in stride. one man biked it to work. >> i think a lot of my

coworkers will choose to work from home or take an alternate route. some people will take the bus. >> reporter: are -- >> reporter: are you frustrated at all? >> no. it's friday. it's an easy day. >> reporter: the district is not planning to have any extra buses because it says fridays are typically light. there are no more buses running from the larkspur ferry. we have received word of the 915 bus routes, 13 have been canceled because drivers called in sick. this means that santa rosa is being hit hard this morning with longer wait times and crowded buses. you should also know that the friday's ballpark ferry is canceled. giant fans need to make other plans. contract negotiations are set to resume monday. live from larkspur, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. there are new fears this morning about corrosion on the new eastern span of the bay

bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports several of the steel rods that anchor the new span may have corroded due to water leaks on the bridge. caltrans found the water last week and they believe the leaks may date back to 2010 before the tower was lowered into position. officials say the water has been drained but it's still unclear whether any rods were damaged. 8:5. now to developing news. we've been on this all morning about problems affecting flights around the country this morning. a fire at an faa control tower in illinois stopped most flights at o'hare and midway airports. that's having a ripple effect on flights around the country. brian flores found out about flights canceled at sfo. what's happening, brian? >> reporter: hi, dave. well, there are simply more flights canceled or delayed because of what's going on in chicago this morning. really the best advice i can give you, if you are headed to chicago from our bay area airports, perhaps expecting friend or family from there as

well, just check with your airline this morning and this afternoon as well. airport duty managers throughout the country, held a teleconference call about the situation in chicago. now at last check here at sfo, there were five departure cancellations and four arrival cancellations from either chicago open hair or midway airports. this is in response to the suspicious fire that broke out at the faa radar center in aurora, illinois, a western suburb of chicago earlier this morning. at the american airlines terminal back here at sfo, several passengers were left wondering what -- what to do the next. >> pretty frustrated because we -- i looked on my e-mails this morning and nobody let me know that this had happened. so we came in, you know, got up superearly, came to the airport and then find this out. >> reporter: along with the fire police in aurora, there

was a man with self-inflicted wounds, the ap is reporting that this man was a contract employee with the faa. police officials say this was not an act of terrorism. the man is being questioned about the fire this morning. as we take it back out here live. we understand there were a small amount of flights that were circling chicago's airports. they were allowed to land early. we understand there was a ground stop there. check with your airline. we're live here in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, brian. we want to show you a pretty good visual of the problems in chicago. it's a map tracking all flights in the eastern united states. the planes currently in the air are in white. in this map, we're zooming in on o'hare and midway. since there are two of the nation's busiest airports,

normally it would be covered with white planes. but it's fairly clear at this hour, kind of at the bottom of the lake there. without air traffic control monitoring the space, other flights are having to divert around that area and that's causing delays. san francisco's fire chief is now getting a strong show of support. earlier this week, groups representing rank and file firefighters called for joanne hayes-white to step down. they pointed to what they called a crisis in confidence in her ability to lead the department. but a number of chief supporters came to her defense during the commission meeting. they included the heads of other city departments. >> she's a role model to all, and to young girls like my own daughters in particular that have more confidence that anybody is possible. >> the fire commission heard several hours of testimony but it did not take any action regarding her future as san francisco's fire chief.

ktvu's cameras went inside an oakland apartment complex described by the city of oakland as a public nuisance. now, the hillside apartments in east oakland tenants complained the units are badly maintained and the area is controlled by gangs and drug dealers. one tenant showed us a window broken last june. he said the owners and property managers still will not fix. a woman showed us photos of her son covered in bug bites. she says the apartment complex is infected -- infested with insects. >> i got kid, teenagers with bite marks. they go to school. now they are fighting because somebody is picking on them because in class, they got a fleabite mark or -- it's not right. >> last weekend, there was a fatal shooting outside of the complex. the oakland city attorney's office is suing the building's owner, allegations of unsafe living conditions. an historic plg in redwood city -- building in redwood city is going up for sale for

commute. >> reporter: good morning. just a couple of minutes ago, all of the lanes of 680 northbound here south of pacheco just reopened. you can see traffic moving through this area. but the chp is continuing to investigate this deadly crash that happened about 7:00 this morning. it involved the van you just saw there alongside -- [audio difficulties] a man riding inside that car was thrown from the car. he was not wearing his seat belt and he died here at the scene. i want to bring in chp officer daniel hill to give us more information about this accident. >> we received calls about an erratic driver. we got reports of witnesses that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed making

erratic lane changes. he eventually made an erratic lane change to the left and struck the van. that van overturned. the sedan driving erratically slammed in the center divide and veered off the lanes -- struck a roadway sign and fence, overturned and was ultimately ejected. >> reporter: this gentleman was not wearing a seat belt. what's the take away from a crash like this. >> the majority of rollover crashes that the highway patrol responds to are noninjury crashes provided the person wears their seat belt. that's often the situation in life-or-death situations. had he been wearing his seat belt, he may have escaped with scratches. >> reporter: daniel hill with the chp. traffic had been crawling. but again, automatic of the

who helped battle the king fire are now back home and we were there as they unpacked their gear last night after nearly a week on the fire lines. no firefighters from san francisco were hurt in the fire. the city of pleasanton will reduce penalties on people who use too much water. earlier, the city imposed tough tynes for people who didn't reduce water use by 25%. but after the community came together and slashed water use by more than a third over the summer, well, the city will now ease those fines. according to the contra costa times, pleasanton's water conservation rate is among the top ten in the state. want to check in with sal. good news. alex was just telling us all lanes open on northbound 680 in martinez. are there any other slow spots? >> the crash, even though it's on the shoulder, people still slowing past the scene and the damage is done. highway 4 is very slow because highway 4 gets out to 680. a lot of people try to get on

the benicia bridge or go the other way. that ramp has been slow. this crash had a chain reaction on all of that traffic. you should give yourself plenty of time. highway 4 usually by this point a friday is better than this. unfortunately, it's not. bay bridge is better. that's improved quite a bit. it has a small delay at the toll plaza. then off you go into san francisco with no major delays. 580 looks good if you are driving through. as i pulled back and i look at the traffic maps we've been taking a look at marin county. there's slow traffic. it's not as bad as you might think. there's slow traffic through marinwood and san rafaelful on southbound 101. no doubt some people are driving because they cannot take the ferry today as you've heard. let's go to steve. partly sunny. mostly sunny to partly cloudy. there's a piece of energy coming in here that will give us mostly cloudy skies. maybe a few showers. it looks like a much bigger

arriving. janine de la vega has more. >> reporter: we're here on white road in the area in thier green area of -- in the evergreen area of san jose. police say a neighbor called police after watching a break- in and it led to three arrests. in another neighbor, officers captured three more burglars. they are investigating whether they are responsible for other thefts. here's video when san jose police took down burglary suspects accused of victimizing a neighborhood in the evergreen district. it was an alert neighbor who called police after observing suspicious activity. when officers arrived, they found one man serving as a lackout and two others -- lookout and two others in a home breaking into a safe. police are encouraging residents to form watch groups. the police officers association says in 2010, $47 million was reported stolen property. the latest number show it's up

this year. they are testing thermal imaging cameras along the perimeter. they also plan to improve internal communications and also how i.d. badges are given out to employees. all of this after a teenaged boy climbed a wall, hid inside the wheel well of a plane and flew to hawaii. and a woman nicknamed the serial stowaway got around checkpoints and got on a flight too l.a.x. without having a -- to l.a.x. bought having a ticket. cyber experts are scrambling to stop a dangerous new computer bug that could be worse than last spring's heartbleed bug that infected 500,000 computers. it's called the shell-shock bug or bash bug. some hackers have reportedly used to get into users by adding code to the bash software program used on many operating systems, including apple. >> it literally is hey, web surfer, run this program that allows me to completely take

larkspur ferry terminal. some have been out there for four years. they want a pay raids be a they want no -- pay raise and no increase in their healthcare premiums. tara moriarty joining us live now. ferry riders are struggling to find a different way to get around because of this. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. instead of taking the ferry we've noticed some people have taken their bikes into work. these are the strikers out here. they are getting a lot of honks of support. there are 16 ferry captains. you can see that engineers and deck hands are standing in solidarity with them. 9,000 people from the north bay had to scramble to find another way to work this morning. the reason, ferry captains are angry that the golden gate transit district is offering 9% raises over three years. captains want 12% because they say they are gonna have to pay more for healthcare. the district argues that its captains at 83,000 a year outearn those in other fleets
