spoke to friends of stephen petersen. one of the suspects. he has an alibi and he was at work when the fires happened. we will have that story at 6:00 p.m., live, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. new details in the carjacking chase and deadly police shooting that shut down the financial district last week. today we learned six officers fired 30 shots that suspect. this new information came out while the police chief was holding a public meeting. ktvu's noelle walker is in san francisco with what else the chief had to say. >> reporter: 32 shots to be specific. that is one of the details we learned today. they are standard procedure for san francisco police after any officer involved shooting. the chief says that they are being done in order to give the community as much information as they can, as soon as they

ktvu's tara moriarty has the video. >> two thieves shattering the window and snatching two bikes. a minute later a third person sees a crime of opportunity and steal as bike too. >> i got a call at 4:30 a.m. this morning saying an alarm at my store. >> he headed down to his shop. he says three bikes were stolen. a cost of $9,300. the first thief is white, under 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, the second is also white, a black hat, trench coat and white wing tipped shoes. the third guy with a black baseball hit and a black backpack. >> you have to use this and wand it over and it turns the bikes on. one bike is useless without the key.

inside their apartment on california street. they found chemicals that when mixed together form a toxic gas. at this point police haven't said which death was by suicide and which was by accident. the older was the manager of the milk market. a niece wrote he poured his heart into the business and did everything with honesty and integrity. the missing university of virginia student turned up another lead. police found a link between jesse matthew and the disappearance of morgan harrington. jesse matthew is under arrest in connection with the abduction of hannah elizabeth graham who disappeared earlier this month. police at this point are not saying how she connected to either women. morgan harrington's remains were found after she disappeared. police in hong kong are using harsh tactics to push back against protests. the protests started a week ago

iuds but all other are supposed to and at no cost. reporting live in san francisco, john fowler, ktvu channel 2 news. investigators are not doing all the research they are supposed to do. that is what a new report says about the work being done to track down people with unpaid tax bills. according to a report in 57% of 250 cases studied there was no evidence the workers did all the required research before declaring the tax is uncollectible. it doesn't estimate how much that cost the government but it says in 2012 the irs declared $6.7 billion in unpaid taxes to be uncollectible because it couldn't find the taxpayers. the irs says it does not agree with the findings. now at 6:00 p.m. a car at a side show runs into a large crowd of people. the call from city hall to stop
