that breaking news involves late word tonight that the oakland raiders have fired head coach dennis allen. good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. that news broke in the past 90 minutes the oakland raiders off to a horrible start and now they have fired head coach dennis allen. the first word came in this tweet from jake glazer of fox sports. this was dennis allen third season, and the tweet says breaking news, raiders have just informed dennis allen he

allen never resembled passion and the team's passive play reflected his penalty. the team will hold a press conference tomorrow at which time they will likely name sporano as interim coach until the end of the season. i can tell you everyone felt this firing was only a matter of time considering that during allen's tenure the team is eight wins and 28 losses including 10 in a row was almost past due. when you say that was not a surprise it would be an extreme change. and the beat goes on. it's year after year. game after game. and there's got to be some

justice. >> reporter: reporting live in novato, debora villalon, ktvu news. new video of a hit-and-run in milpitas that left aist injured. police have not released many details about what happened but we do know the bicyclist was injured in front of a heald college. police found the car at a near by great mall. the driver however was gone. a man hunt is under way in palo alto tonight to find a fraud suspect who police say is also wanted for a sex crime in oklahoma. police say they have three canine teams going yard to yard in an area bordered with everett and net avenue. the search started around 11:00 tonight. the suspect is described as a

36 36-year-old black man. about 6'7" tall. there's word that the court workers have voted overwhelmingly to start a strike. a spokesperson said more than 91% of the members voted yes. a strike date has not been is set but it could happen at any time. members of seiu1021 says that the courts have enough money to give them a raise but that they won't bargain in good faith. they say managers are not offering no raise at all. new information on a series of fires set in the east bay over the weekend and the two men now under arrest for arson. authorities say all the fires were deliberately set in a seven block raid courthouse. police arrested 22-year-old andrew gutierrez and stephen peterson almost immediately after the fires were put out

sunday afternoon. both men are due back in court for the first time tomorrow. amber lee is in alameda where she spoke to friends of one of the suspect who say they think police have the wrong men. >> reporter: you can see the damage to three businesses. they are among the seven cars believed to be arson. tonight we spoke to a woman who lost her home. >> it's complete sadness. anger will come through maybe in a while. >> reporter: memories from building a life here in the past eight years. >> losing all my photos, losing all my data. >> reporter: is all that's left. >> losing the life that we built together here. >> reporter: charred debris of valuable belongings. >> i just felt very connected to this house. >> reporter: maureen phillips says someone started a trash in her garbage can and spread to her house. >> he walks in here, walks up the sides. >> reporter: police say he is seen on this surveillance video wearing a hat and a white

shirt. the man walks across the parking lot to a dumpster. minutes later, he is seen running away. >> this clearly helps. i mean there's nothing like actually seeing somebody in the act. >> reporter: police also arrested 27-year-old stephen peterson of alameda. >> there was a fight fighter and a couple of police officers who had recognized this person as being at each scene. >> reporter: but people say they can vouch for peterson. friends say peterson was in the area of the fires because he lives near by and was walking home from work. >> he has always talked about nonviolence as a solution. it just doesn't seem absolutely out of character. >> reporter: friends say peterson is the head guitarist.

actually ran past the staircase that leads to the private family quarters and all the way into the east room where the president holds news conferences. but despite the breach, the press secretary says the president is still confident in the secret service. >> the president does retain confidence in the secret service. >> the head of the secret service pierson is scheduled to appear before a house committee tomorrow. that hearing was arranged last week to discuss security breaches. despite weeks of air strikes there's now reports suggesting isis extremists are now within a few miles of baghdad. >> this has isis gaining ground in syria with president obama saying u.s. intelligence under estimated the power of isis. ken pritchett now with new video of the fighting. >> reporter: there's at least one report that isis fighting were within two miles of

baghdad. but u.s. air strikes stopped the advance on iraq's capital city for now. but in northern syria, isis appears to be on the verge of capturing a keyboarder town. this is an up close look of isis artillery firing on the city of komal. and residents watch. the fear if i sis takes the city a massacre will follow. isis is advancing here despite the bombings. >> the terrorists are coming and killing the women. stealing this child here. >> reporter: as the air campaign against isis and syria enters its second week. the president said that they

under estimated isis. but the intelligence committee has been warning of isis for more than a year. >> the level of killing they're doing inside that country is terrible. >> reporter: today, it's thought they have carried out 2/3 of the 300 air strikes. the air force said strikes are making a difference. >> the bottom line is air power is targeting actions are disrupting isis command and control. their logistics and infrastructure and freedom of movement. >> reporter: but isis claims they were ready for air strikes and had moved. >> they hit us in areas and advanced in others. if we are pushed back in iraq we advance in northern syria. these strikes cannot stop us,

happening now one of the world's biggest technology companies is taking over san francisco's masconi center and the city is waged to rake in millions. the company welcomes new co ceos. the change has caused a buzz among attendees who are flooding hotels and restaurants.

healther holmes is live at the center. >> reporter: pretty much all day and all night the streets here have been clogged with lots of beige wearing conventiongoers. everywhere you look you can see these big bright banners from restaurants to hotels to other businesses all of this oracle red means lots and lots of green. all around the masconi center in san francisco signs of mega convention of the year are everywhere. 60,000 information technology and human resource execs from 145 countries are flooding oracle open world. bruno santo is from brazil. bruno is new to the conference. this is the first year his employer decided to get involved. >> much more energy than before. >> reporter: and says there is something different about this year. >> people are wondering what's going to happen next. >> reporter: it was just last week when company founder ellis

stepped down and became executive chairman. but it was ellison who kicked off the conference yesterday. >> 2014 is a very important year for us. >> reporter: the changing of the guard and five day conference that features thousands of workshops that brings big bucks. >> getting ready to get on the bus. >> reporter: hotels are at capacity. with 80% of the hotels booked. >> it's really again a huge economic impact. >> reporter: elisandro is member of the travel association, he told me that last year the city reaped big rewards to the tune of $100 million. >> restaurants are full. hotels are full. venues are full. but also continues to showcase san francisco as the world's sinner of high tech invasion. and so it does many many very positive things for san francisco. >> reporter: including bringing in some extra revenue to jillian's billiards and sports bar right here on fourth street. it hosted a private party

tonight for 700 people. and frank and julie, the manager there told me that's just one of four private events it'll be hosting this week. reporting live here in san francisco. i'm heather holmes, ktvu channel 2 news. today apple released a fix for a bug. apple has said most mac users are protected by default unless settings were reconfigured. windows users are not affected. uc plans to let students use their preferred name even if it's not their official name. and uc plans to let them use preferred restroom. nopalitano says uc should be the gold standard.

a respected physicians group today urged doctors to prescribe iud or hormonal implants for sexually active girls. they also recommend the use of condoms. iuds and hormone implants cost more up front but they're less expensive in the long run than birth control pills. fog returning to the coast tonight. a few high clouds. we'll watch this system slide through. temperatures are on the mild side. temperatures a lot like today but changes are coming as this low pressure moves out. higher pressure is going to move in. as we head into the end of the week, the middle of the week and it's going to bring fog in here. i've got fog at ocean beach. fog shooting across the berkeley and oakland area.

we'll come in close and i know there'll be fog in the avenues. not picking up very well. it'll be there in the morning when you wake up. overnight tonight lows will be in the 50s. mid-60s. currently at 62 in antioch. santa rosa down to 58. nights are getting longer as we head into october the nights are getting longer. here's how it goes down. tomorrow is a lot like today slightly warmer. as we head into your bay area wednesday, thursday and friday. temperatures are going to increase. fire danger is going to come up as well. so tomorrow like today there's the fog footprint for the morning hours. you see it there at 7:00 a.m. fog goes away. you may not see the fog for a while after this. we'll see more offshore winds. lots more 80s we have a lot more upper 70s tomorrow. then it starts to heat up. when i come back after the break we dial in the heat up and increased fire danger as we head into the middle of the week.

central. now that protest is being monitored all over the world. and there's already concerns that it could cause a crack down. >> meantime, images from hong kong are resinating here in the bay area. and jana katsuyama joins us now from the cal campus, jana. >> reporter: here at berkeley where the free speech movement was launched we found student who is were keeping a close eye on their phones and their computers watching what's happening to those young activists in hong kong. the images of massive clouds paralyzing hong kong central business district. stirring emotions of people throughout the world. scenes of police releasing tear gas in clashes with students sunday seems to be ignited more anger at the government in advance of china's national day of celebration. some students are following the

systems. >> right now in hong kong, we're coming up on 1:30 in the afternoon on tuesday. and hong kong officials are reporting that at least 56 people have been injured. 89 have been arrested and protesters are continuing to block the major streets in the city. reporting live in berkeley, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. wall street closed with modest losses today as the unrest in hong kong weighed on investors. the dow dropped 49 points nasdaq dropped six. both had been lower. the law prohibits companies from using the personal data of students for profit. and it makes those companies responsible for protecting the information. the law requires that the data only be used for educational

purposes. student information remains the property of the school district. the governor also signed the bill known as yes means yes. it applies to sexual assault cases on college campuses. the new law states that silence and a lack of resistance do not signify consent to sexual active -- activity. he signed a bill to allow certain community colleges to offer bachelor degrees for the first time under a pilot program. it may not be on your radar just yet but elections are now just weeks away and one race in particular is heating up. >> five weeks until the nation's largest city gets a new mayor. more on a live forum coming up

his target to keep the city from being riddled with crime. >> they want to keep cops with a badge and a gun showing up at their door. >> reporter: chief community leaders at tonight's forum agree public safety will dominate this campaign. >> for the first time i'm hearing from people who live here in san jose that they're very concerned about their personal safety and the safety of their family so i think that's number one. >> reporter: other key issues brought up how to keep start ups in silican valley and land use. live in san jose, azenith smith, ktvu news. in mountain view police have announced an unusual situation in the death of a father and son inside an apartment filled with gas. police say that one of them died of suicide and the other death was an accident. it happened last wednesday at an apartment on california

street. a hazmat team found the bodies of 53-year-old lou and his 17- year-old son william inside the apartment along with chemicals that when mixed form a toxic gas. police haven't said which death was by suicide and which death was by accident. the older lou is the manager of the milk pail market. a niece wrote on facebook that he was a brilliant and respected businessman who poured his heart into his work. burglars smashed the front window of a san francisco bicycle shop overnight and took off with bikes worth thousands of dollars. take a look it shows two thieves entering electric bike superstore on philmore. both men are white. the second has shoulder length brown hair, a black bolero style hat. trench coat and white wing stiped shoes. after the two thieves clear out

a third thief appears apparently taking advantage of the stolen window. two electrical bikes and one bike was stolen that's a loss of $9,300. >> one of the bikes is useless without a key. without the electronic key. they can't even hot wire. there's nothing they can do with the bike other than sell it for parts. >> and the owner says that he has already received information about the longer haired thief and he's passed that information on to police. after complaints that cars go too fast and that people especially seniors are in danger, changes are being made to china town. amber lee spoke to the family of an elderly woman who died there last week and tell us of their push for change. >> reporter: she used to call their children every day reminding them to exercise and eat well. >> i miss her a lot. >> reporter: now five sons are mourning the loss of their

extraordinary mother. >> thank you for your support. michelle obama. >> reporter: 78-year-old lee was a music and chinese language teacher from the guan province. she moved to san francisco in 1988 and became active with china town civic groups organizing a civic chorus. nine days ago she was struck and killed by a car just steps away from her apartment. >> when i got that call i said not possible. my mom is so healthy. she's so active. she sings and dance. >> reporter: it's the intersection of stockton. transit officials says has been far too dangerous for far too long. four days before that incident, a neighbor was struck in that same intersection. >> we're looking at protected left turn lanes. making the road balls larger to decrease the speed of vehicles.

>> reporter: her children say her death must be the last time an elderly person is struck or killed here. >> they loved their grandma. this is just a nightmare. i'm having a long nightmare. i wake up and i wish i could get a call from her. but i wouldn't happen. >> reporter: the driver involved on the collision is booked with manslaughter. a memorial for yee and a rally is set for the tenth at this intersection. oakland, san leandro and alameda county will share in grants worth $6 million. oakland gets the biggest slice of the pie. the so called violence reduction network is aimed at suppressing gangs, fighting the sexual exploitation of children and domestic violence through

down this weekend after falling and suffering broken legs during races at the san joaquin county fairgrounds. at least two jockeys were hospitalized as a result of the accident. one horse fell at the finish line on saturday. two others fell in separate races on sunday. the driver of an ambulance for horses says track conditions were excellent and that the causes of the falls are mysterious. >> sometimes horses they can have things that are hidden that trainers and riders don't see even the vets. >> reporter: experts will look for possible causes for the falls including improper levels of medication. an update now to a story we brought you earlier in this newscast. just minutes ago, palo alto police reported they have captured the man they were looking for tonight with canine teams. the search took three hours between middleton road and

spectators other the weekend. another pardon -- another example of how dangerous these gathering can be. city leaders say the problem is out of control and they're vowing to stop it. >> reporter: this video was posted on a hip hop website and shows one car that loses control while spinning donuts and appears to slam into several spectators. it's not clear if there are injuries and the driver seems to disappear before the video comes to an end. >> it has come back to the magnitude of what it was 10 years ago. lee represents the area and says a large side show could be heard outside his house. he called police. >> you have 100 vehicles revving their engines and doing donuts in the parking lot. >> reporter: police would not comment on camera and say they don't even know if this video is from the same side show that took place saturday night. they also said they have no

we will be able to direct resources that can more effective respond to and deter side show activity. the department says it's reviewing video of this weekend's side show. we have developing news from foster city at this hour where police are trying to locate a missing boy and his grandmother. the 10-year-old boy and 70-year- old grandmother went missing earlier this evening. this is a picture of them. they are both indian. they were last seen at a safeway store on east hillsdale boulevard. the boy was wearing a black jacket and gray pants. his grandmother had on a long pink and purple dress similar to a sari. anyone with information is asked to call fremont police. american idol was in the bay area today hosting the final round of auditions for the upcoming season. >> ♪

just to the north, you can see it sliding through. dropping a little rain up in the cascades. a little bit of snow. we may see a little coastal drizzle. i haven't had reports yet. look for that when you get going early tomorrow morning. and then we start to warm up. highs tomorrow a few degrees warmer. right now it's 65 in antioch. 61 in livermore. temperatures as we head into the next couple of days we'll be on the increase. fairfield gusting to 18 miles per hour right now. tomorrow this weather system moves out of here. the one that's keeping it mild. high pressure builds in rapidly and temperatures warm up pretty quickly as you head into thursday and friday. this will be our highest fire danger time. we're going to have offshore wind, higher temperatures and higher humidity. the air pressure is going to sink thursday through saturday. that's what we're going to see
