goes into effect right now. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we are following breaking news. firefighters just reduced two window watchers. they have been stuck for about an hour. about 30 minutes ago we saw the first rescue as the window washer was pulled up to the roof of the 24 story high-rise on broadway and 11th street. the second man was pulled to safety about seven minutes later. firefighters were called just before 11:00 this morning. apparently a motor to cables on the window washing equipment failed leaving the window washers trapped outside the building. broadway was shut down between 11th and 12th street as a firefighters repelled down to those workers. take a look at this picture from inside the 24th floor on broadway. you can see the first window washer being brought up.

neil said the man appeared pretty happy. we'll bring you more details of this dramatic rescue tonight at 5:00. it is a respiratory illness that effects mostly children and now we are learning there are two confirmed cases of the enterovirus in alameda county. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: good afternoon. you're absolutely right, two cases, two children in alameda county. they have been telling hospitals, schools and clinics to watch out for this virus which may be linked to severe respiratory distress. it started appearing this year. there are now 500 confirmed cases in 42 states according to the centers for decide control. alameda health control said there are two cases here in

alameda county. >> we have two confirmed cases of d-68. this particular virus seems to present similar to the common cold, cough, runny nose, things like that. the things that arose in the midwest there were more children that were hospitalized. >> reporter: doctors say there's no vaccine for this virus. symptoms include coughing or wheezing, fever and runny nose which mirrors orudi -- other diseases. children with asthma seem to be more at risk. it has been correlated with children who have had paralyzed arms or legs. doctors are still trying to establish if this virus was the cause for the acute limb weakness. testing for the virus is only

done when they can't attribute the sickness to another virus. >> it has lead us to in california i think there were hospitals that noted increased hospitalizations from respiratory illness that weren't testing positive for other viruses. we as a health care community started thinking about it and testing for it. >> reporter: so schools and clinics have been made aware this virus is now in alameda county. new numbers should be released by the state later. it is very possible there are more cases that have not been diagnosed. health care providers say the best way to avoid disease is to keep your children home when sick and wash hands with water. sal castaneda, channel 2 news. a texas quarantined and as in as 100 others are being

closely monitored to prevent the spread. four of thomas duncan's relatives were notified that they are not allowed to leave their dallas home or have any visitors without approval from health officials. they also have to provide blood samples and other testing doctors deem necessary. duncan is the first person to be diagnosed with ebola in the u.s.. he has been up grated from critical to serious condition and remains in isolation at the hospital. as far his family members officials are keeping them isolated until at least october 19th. >> they are at home and doing well. >> reporter: and the children as well? >> the children are fine. again, all she asks is for prayers. >> medical worker and others who have had contact with duncan are being monitored. duncan is from liberia. he probably became infected last month when he came in contact with a pregnant woman

who had ebola. a heat advisory is now underway for parts of the bay area. this is a live look out. you can see how dry it looks out there. that's why fire danger is expected to be a big concern over the next few days. our chief meteorologist put his suit on a little early and joins us with the current temperatures. >> yeah. the deal is it is warm out there but not crazy hot. we don't have any fire weather warnings yet. we will see increased fire danger tonight and tomorrow. heat advisory went into effect and it stays in effect for all of the area counties through tomorrow evening. so places like oakland, san francisco, you're not use to temperatures in the 80s and 90s. without air-conditioning there's the concern. the offshore flow is through but it's pretty weak. the strongest have been about 25, 28 miles per hour. they are kind of sketchy, not a sustained wind. with that said that's good news

in terms of strong winds and fire dangers. this is unprecedented drought we are dealing with. the combination of this heat, low humidity, i think the fire danger it's not a red flag warning but it's very dangerous. when i come back we'll talk about the heat continuing to build outside. we'll talk about when things are supposed to stay pretty warm and when the fog is supposed to get here. we'll see you back in just a few. san francisco city leaders are discussing the importance of the city's 311 nonemergency system particularly with the arrival of october. this month the city will see a number of well attended events including fleet week, giant play off games and sell braces. officials want the public to keep 911 clear for real emergencies. they are urging the public to use 311 when seeking assistance for nonemergency situations. we have new information on

a burglary that turned violent when the homeowner was stabbed in santa clara. she now learned the suspect's name and police believe he may have committed other crimes. >> suspects armed with a knife. >> it is what they found when they pulled up to the house at 3:00 this morning. >> they have saying there is blood all over the inside of the house. detectives say he confronted a burglar who they believe is issmaldanado. he was stabbed by a suspect with a knife several times. >> when they arrived on scene they found the homeowner inside bleeding profusely. >> at gunpoint.

>> reporter: officers found him hiding in shrubbery and took him into custody. they are seeing if he is connected to another robbery and stabbing which was 45 minutes earlier. >> are you surprised something like this happened in your own neighborhood? >> yeah. i lived here a long time. it's a quiet neighborhood. things are becoming since the downturn in the economy there has been more crime around. it is the first time that i know of. >> reporter: they say both victims are expected to survive. ktvu news. there is relief near the busy 280 and 880 interchange. two new ramps opened. that's considered a big milestone in the construction project that started two years ago. we explain what the changes mean for drivers. >> reporter: you can see these clover leafs at the 880

interchange, a popular area in san jose known for congestion. >> it's always a mess right there. >> reporter: the valley fair mall and shops at restaurants are here. during the commute hours and during the holiday shopping season the back up can be a nightmare. motorists have had to navigate through orange cobs and yell -- cones and yellow to slow down. >> i'm not sure how it will twist and turn. >> drivers found relief at 5:00a . crews opened up two new ramps that are wider. one takes it to 880 and 280. the other is from off ramp 880. each has a signal light to control the traffic. >> it will be controlled by signals so people won't have more free flowing movements and

old, two 17-year-olds and an 18- year-old suspected of the crime. they were booked on charges of burglary and felony cruelty to animals. police are looking for two people who pretended to help a stranded graduate student and grabbed her instead. it happened when the student's car broke down and a couple pulled up to give her a ride. when they reached the gas station the victim jumped out to pay for gas and the couple took off with all of her belongings in her car. >> it's frustrating. i thought these people were helping me but instead they robbed me, stole all of my belongings. >> the 22-year-old victim is an opera singer. she attends santa clara university. they identified one of the suspects but he is still on the loose. warning people to be alert after a man was randomly

attacked at a mall right in front of his family. it happened sunday off of el camino royal. he was in the parking lot with his wife and two young daughters when the man snuck up behind him and punched him in the face. the assault sent him to the emergency room with a black eye. >> it was like a truck slamming. he had a good shot. he did a nice job as far as his hit. i have never had a big hit like that. >> police say it appears the attack was completely random and similar to another assault where a man was punched in the face bay stranger last week. they both happened near grant road and phillis avenue. police asking anyone with information to give them a call. the autopsy report on robin williams is being delayed several weeks. he died of an apparent suicide

at his home. the autopsy report was scheduled to be released by last tuesday. the marine county coroner's office says more testing and analysis are needed. ed lee was on hand to celebrate a new affordable housing project and to welcome tenants to their new home. >> we're a team. >> thank you. >> come on in. digit heat it's just oakland and san francisco will get into the 90s today and tomorrow. how many air conditioners are there in san francisco? no many, same as oakland. this is an unprecedented drought. we have a fire weather pattern. it's not crazy but fire weather pattern and you have this unprecedented drought. it warrants a great deal of attention. high pressure center. certainly tomorrow should be the warmest day. the temperatures, it's not upper 90s. it might be but numbers # 0s and -- 80s and low 90s. humidities will be down and in the teens. winds will be coming out of the east. air equally will be bad. another thing to think about too is 750,000 people live in

oil prices continue to fall. stocks are reversed course. afternoon trading on wall street and airline stocks making a modest recovery after sliding yesterday due to concern the ebola crisis would cause a decrease in travel plans. taking a look the dow is up five and nasdaq up 8 and s&p is up a fraction. new concerns about the security of apple's icloud. hackers gained access to apple's account recovery system and were able to download and leak nude photos of celebrities

like jennifer lawrence and kate upton. following that apple unveiled a new security system designed to protect users. now hackers have apparently found a way around that system which mostly consists of notifying users when someone tries to change an account password or download icloud back ups. a study released today shows the worst markets for making money on homes you rent out. northern california has five of the top ten worst counties. san francisco, santa clara eight and santa cruz is. best are in north carolina and georgia. the san francisco giants are in washington,d.c. today to prepare for the next round of the national league play offs after winning last night in pittsburgh.
