about. today mostly sunny and partly cloudy. here is sal. we are looking at a commute where traffic will be slow. eastbound highway 4 right here where it splits off to 160. it's one of the locations chp is on the way. traffic is going to be busy. it looks like one of the cars flipped over and may be off the road. and we are also getting information that one of the people inside the car was able to get out. but still rears bare medics -- requires paramedics. let's move along to a live picture. the traffic here looks okay as you cross into the valley. bay bridge toll plaza that looks o.k.. at 6:02 let's go back to the desk. crews are digging up the street to reach a broken water

line. it burst just after midnight at key street and key avenue in the bay area neighborhood. water gushed out of the broken line for four hours flooding homes and streets. tara moriarty has been out there this morning and tara, you have new information that might explain why this main burst. >> reporter: that would be due to an old pipe. a cast iron pipe from 1953. crews right now are continuing to clean up the mess. they opened up jamestown. we do know officials isolated the break, they pinched it off after four hours. so a massive amount of water was lost. the force of the water coming down key street was sol great it ripped the bumper of a car right off. the break happened around midnight sending water gushing. officials tell us half a dozen homes have been flooded here off key avenue.

so not too far from candle stick park. many residents can be seen sweeping water from their garages. and cars have been water logged. >> we'll be out here until the job is done. we don't know how long the repair will take. a normal water main takes off 4- 6 hours. it could take longer. in the mean tame there will be three blocks without water. we will do everything we can. >> reporter: now officials will wait until it's light out to see if the damage is more widespread than they first thought. they say it is possible that more homes were impacted. it is still quite messy out here. police have quarantined off a couple of blocks. the water is still flowing down here and pumping the water out. again the break has been isolated. live from san francisco's bay view district i'm tara moriarty

five young people are in the hospital after a crash. police say three women and two men were inside a lexus sedan when it crashed into a utility pole. we have just learned they were all in their late teens or early 20s. all five victims are expected to survive. police say the driver was speeding but they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. a high-tech company known for showering its employees with benefits they are now doing the same for some of its security guards. those jobs have always been out sourced but not anymore. janine de la vega is joining us live from mountain view to tell us what this means. good morning janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. employees here at google enjoy free meals, transportation, among other perks. but the security guards who protect the campus here didn't even get house insurance or benefits from google. the mountain view voice is

reporting that google is dropping its contracts from a security company that provided guards. the tech company will create 200 or part time full time security guards. the company says it values the service security guards provide because it wants to insure its companies are safe and employees are well taken care of. for security guards this should mean better living wages and hushes. there has been numerous protests held by the union that represents security guards and other in the service industry. they are upset that tech companies are not taking the initiative to hire them directly and offer them the same benefits offered by tech workers. google appears to be the only one following suit. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time is 6:06. there will be a news conference by the state department of public health on the efforts to

-- it has three confirmed cases. two in alameda county, one in solano county. the alameda county health department says d-68 can in the beginning look like a common cold. this strain of the virus is linked to polio. it may cause pole low like -- polio like symptoms like paralysis. it can be spread by coughing, sneezing, or even by touch. >> some of the deaths are really compounded by other illnesses. and a particular one that had a child. >> doctors are cig only a small number of children get severely ill. mostly children with asthma considered at high risk. you're advised disinfect doorknobs and countertops and make sure children thoroughly wash their hands. berkeley police are investigating three separate

assaults at three separate attorneys. the third assault happened earlier in the same day. this comes on the heels of a federal investigation into the handling of sexual assaults on college campuses including uc berkeley. earlier this week governor brown signed a bill requiring come police it consent. mcdonnell was arrested over the labor day weekend for allegedly causing visible injuries to his pregnant fiance. the case is now in the hands of the santa clara county da's office. the da will review the case and decide if they will file criminal charges or if the case needs more investigation. a spokesman would make no comment on when that might happen. in just about six hours, the giants will play the washington nationals to open the national league division series. that is after the giants

transport something else like hong kong's leader. they are trying to keep him from entering that building. president obama's former defense secretary criticizing how the president is handling the crisis in iraq. leon panetta in a new book says the white house had listened to his advice on u.s. troop levels, iraq's security situation may not have unraveled. back in 2011, president obama announced all the 39,000 u.s. troops in iraq would leave iraq by the end of that year. panetta says he argued behind the scenes and publicly to have a small amount of troops left behind. he says the administration's decision may have contributed to the rise of isis. high school student in oakland was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school. it happened last friday. district officials say a campus security guard spotted to

oh my gosh. whoa. whoa. >> incredible video. this is how a tense high speed four-county police chase in southern california ended. the driver was arrested. police think he is the notorious hills bandit responsible for half a dozen bank robberies in the area. he was accused of stealing $12,000 worth of steel from a company in the bay area. a san jose woman is facing charges in connection to the hit and run near the mall earlier this week that killed a bicyclist. it happened on the movant guy express way around 6:00 monday evening. 19-year-old gallon is accused of hitting the cyclist and driving off. the car she was driving was

an ounce on sugar sweetened drinks. the equipment was reported missing in march after months of investigation, 39-year-old jose was arrested. campus police say between $700,000 to $800,000 was stolen. he worked as a network analyst in the it department. he's been placed on paid administrative leave during this investigation. santa rosa police are asking for your help identifying a woman that is accused of stealing the purses. police released this photo of a woman that accused of stealing purses at six different schools. the first theft was on september 10th. it was the latest -- the latest was yesterday at olivet elementary school. the thief has used some of the stolen credit cards at local stores. it's not clear if the woman is associated with the schools.

it's one of the patterns where fairfield, on the yock can't hold a candle. here is sal. steve, we have a couple of problems now to talk about. we are talking about highway 4 first. a couple of different crashes on highway 4 near laurel road. near the bypass there. eastbound but traffic westbound. as we move to 680 southbound. they are clearing up an accident. traffic is backed up on highway 242 heading down to concord. and then we have a crash on the peninsula northbound 101 near peninsula avenue right before broadway burlingame. we had a crash that was blocking lanes. traffic was backed up to 238. traffic is backed up for a 20 minute drive into san

francisco. this is san jose northbound 280 and 101 still looking good into the west valley. it's 6:30, let's go back to the desk. at least a half dozen san francisco homes flooded this morning by a water main break. a water main that is more than 60 years old. happening right now. repair crews are digging up the ground. we are quite aways from where the break happened. at least the length of two football fields. it happened way down the street there. the water flowed all the way down this sidewalk and into this house you see right here. just to give you an idea how wide spread the damage is. the water crept into the garage of this home and crews are still cleaning it up. the force of the water coming down key street was so great it ripped the bumper of a car

street. we will head up to where the water break happened. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. investigators in oakland are looking for the cause of a huge fire that damaged three homes. it started last night on redding street. right near interstate 580. neighbors say the fast moving fire quickly raced from one home to to others. firefighters had to avoid a downed power line right outside the burning building. they also had to take a narrow staircase up four flights just to get to the home that had the most damage. >> this was a very tough fire fight going up a steep hill into a structure fire. this was unusual for a firefighter to have to face that. >> reporter: no one was hurt but investigators say one home damaged in the fire is a complete loss. investigators are trying to identify the body that was

teenager is still alive. three doctors declared the 13- year-old oakland girl brain dead ten months ago but attorney christopher dolan says he plans to show a video of jahi moving his limbs and other signs of life. dolan is hoping to convince the courts to revoke her death sentence. camera man has tested positive for the ebola virus. he was covering the ebola epidemic with dr. nancy snyderman when he started to have a slight fever on wednesday. he is now being transported here to the u.s. to get treated. dr. snyder man and the rest of her crew are said to be fine. they will come back to the u.s. and be quarantined for 21 days as a precaution. meantime the nephew of the liberia man diagnosissed with

ebola in dallas, texas says his uncle is now too weak to talk on the phone. the woman he was visiting in dallas along with her family, they are quarantined at their apartment. cleaning crew that was hired to sanitize and clean the apartment didn't have the right credentials and they were turned way. duncan's friend told cnn anderson cooper she hasn't been able to get rid of the bed sheets and towels that duncan used. >> so you took them off the bed and put them into a plastic bag? >> now the government of liberia may file charges against duncan if they find out he lied to get out of the country. he filled out a form stating he had not taken care of anyone infected with ebola. several teem said he had been

helping ebola patients in liberia. the dallas hospital that is now treating him, they are trying to explane why he was allowed to go home with antibiotics after his first trip to the quite. administrators are blaming a security flaw. the airline says it's in the process of contacting several hundred passengers that also flew on that plane. doctors say duncan was not showing symptoms at the time of his travel so it's not likely he transmitted that virus. jp morgan chase now says 83 million customer accounts were exposed when the bank was hacked last july. originally the largest bank in the country said about a million accounts were victims of the cyber attack. jp morgan says information from consumers and small businesses

welcome back. it's 6:42. the search is on this morning for the people that carried out a care of violent robberies last night near the bart station. one of the victims was shot. alex savidge is in elusory roadway doe to explain what happened. alex. >> reporter: pam, good morning to you. these are back to back robberies along the greenway. close if the bart station which

is right over there. in one case, a man was badly beaten and in another case a man was shot in the leg. police believe the two robbers were responsible for both of these violent crimes. crimes he had been shot along key boulevard close to the bart station. he told police he had been robbed and shot nearby. that is when they found a second man that had been beaten. those two victims do not know each other but both say they were robbed while walking along the greenway. both of the men are expected to survive their injuries. el cerrito police stepped patrols in response to allosteries of armed robberies including -- response to a series of armed robberies including one where a man was pistol whipped. police are looking for at least

the oldest are juveniles. they used a golf club or similar item to kill the chickens. the teens were arrested after several tips. some oakland firefighters are real heros. they rescued two window washers stranded 200 feet in the air for more than two hours. their washing platform stuck on the outside of a building at 1111 broadway. the winch on the platform failed so they were stuck. stranded up there. the rescue operation attracted a big crowd of nervous onlookers. >> my heart was beating for that guy. just imagine what it felt like and praying to god that all went well. >> firefighter actually repelled down the side of that tall building and hooked each man up a to a rope which pulled them to safety. the firefighter was the last to

come over the edge. people cheered and applauded. the rescue went off without a hitch and no one was hurt. 30 people were stuck on a ferris wheel at disney's california adventure. they were on mick key's fun wheel when it stopped rotating about 4:00 in the afternoon. some of the guests were stuck 150 feet in the air. the workers were able to manually operate the ride but it took two hours to get everybody back on the ground. still not clear what caused the problem or if the ride will be operating today. a school district near denver, colorado is going ahead with a controversial lesson plan to promote patriotism. last nights school board meeting was packed. the board refused to -- >> i want ap history to be available for my children.
