this is ktvu channel 2. there are new allegations of sexual assault tonight at same bay area university already under investigation by the justice department. >> julie has tonight off. a uc berkeley student is behind bars facing felony charges for an alleged sexual assault on campus. police say he is linked to 3 that happened last week. kristina is in berkeley. >> well, we are learning that the student's name is [name redacted due to court finding of factual innocence] and he was arrested last night at the delta u house and it is a uc berkeley affiliateed house. >> a cloud of controversy is hanging over the greek system at uc berkeley.

police are investigating 2 separate reports of sexual assaults at fraternities and a third that possibly happened at another fraternity last weekend. says it happens frequently. >> students come to me all the time. >> warner is active in raising awareness about what she calls a systemic issue within the system. >> there are most definitely assaults. a lot of them are repeat offenders. >> berkeley police arrested last night in connection with one of the assaults. a university spokesperson says [name redacted due to court finding of factual innocence] is in his 4th semester. >> it is totally unacceptable. it's going against everything that we stand for and what we are trying to instill in new students as they come here. >> says the university is trying to change the culture by

as tomorrow and it looks like some parts of the bay area will begin a cool down. i'll talk about this new pattern coming in. and weather is making for a day in the city. with that part of our story, john. >> no matter where you have been you have likely noticed the heat. of course nowhere is it more noticeable than those places where the heat is most uncommon such as san francisco. and all day today we saw people out in the sun such as the blue grass festival. all were trying to stay good and hydrated. not everyone had the day off, though. one construction crew was replacing old sewer job below mcallister street. >> you have just got to stay hydrated. drink a lot of water. if you get too hot you have to take a break.

>> drinking lots of water. >> has it been a little tough already. >> yeah, walking over here was just -- because we couldn't find any shade. just getting here was the hardest part. >> if you start perspiring and sweating, you are turning real red, you want to make sure and your friends notice that, those are signs of let's get some water in you. >> near the construction site we found a group of children heading back to class from the music festival, each one of them with an ice cream in hand. that was a great way to beat the heat. san francisco firefighters rushed to stop this 40-foot tower of water gushing in the south market neighborhood today. the public utility commission tells us a large big rig backed into a fire hydrant. said the fire department responded immediately keeping

water loss to a minimum. the hydrant is expected to be replaced in a few days. a 4th case of entero virus has been confirmed in the bay area. there's also a confirmed case in santa cruz. all of this comes after one in al a mean a yesterday. there are a total of 14 children who have been dying diagnosed with the virus across california. it can cause paralysis in some children. experts say they haven't figured out why this strain of the virus seems to be so resilient. >> it's always alarming when we start to see new cases of a disease. >> doctors say hundreds of children have likely been infected but were able to fight off the virus. the family of -- mcmath is hoping a new video will help them prove the 13-year-old girl

was misdiagnosed as being brain dead and should be pronounced alive. >> i talk to gentleman high and she responds so i say she can't be brain dead if she is responding. >> said eeg and mri tests show she has undergone injury but -- she suffered complications from sleep apnea surgery last december. attorneys say the declaration of brain death prevented her from receiving medical care here. the court case is scheduled next thursday in oakland. today hundreds of people who came together to study how to help those affected by domestic violence. about 350 people, including police officers, attorneys and advocates all shared their experiences at an annual forum

on domestic violence. the experts say that despite the national attention that's recently been focused on it. a lot of victims are simply afraid to come forward. >> sometimes the victim doesn't feel safer by it being in the courtroom. the victim may not feel comfortable calling 911. >> santa clara county said its shelters serve more than -- women in the past year alone. now to the baseball playoffs. san francisco giants eked out a win today against the washington nationals. >> joins us with a look at that. >> hot like the weather right now for the san francisco giants. quite a different game than it was in pittsburgh the other night. you can make it 9 consecutive victories for the giants in post season dating back to

a 5th grade teacher at an elementary school in morgan hill was underarrest for molesting a student. arrested john arthur lloyd yesterday after receiving reports that he molested a female student during class in a classroom at paradise elementary school. police say the alleged molestation happened more than once. the young female victim apparently reported to the principal. >> these kids should be protected at all times and this kind of behavior that this teacher is going to subject his students to, he's in a better place right now and that's in jail. >> lloyd is being held on

$250,000 bail and faces 5 charges, including molesting a child, lewd acts with a child and dissuading a witness. the state isn't ready. this week governor brown sign add senate bill, 2011. helps get california's 911 system one step closer to modern sages. but for many the road ahead is a long one. >> if you have had to call 911 for help. >> what is the person's name. >> it can be a relief to hear that dispatcher's voice. >> our dispatchers are trained to calm the caller down. >> but these days phones are about more than just calls. we can text, take pictures, stream video but can 911 keep up. thanks to a federal law it's likely that your cell phone can already send a text to 911 but

none of california's centers can actually receive that text. if you text 911 right now you get a text back that says make a voice call to 911 right now. senate bill 1211 just signed by the governor is hoping to get 911 up to speed. it requires the governor office to develop a plan and time line for testing, implementing and operating a statewide next generation system. what the bill's author calls an immense challenge of funding and deploying and will agencies like -- are right now trying to get those necessary upgrades installed. no one in the state is ready yet. and people we talked to say it could be helpful. >> if you have terrible cell service in a lot of places it's hard to hear. >> i feel like you can't really physically call, like especially if there's a home invasion or something like that. you might as might as well

santa rosa checking in at 97 in afternoon. 92 in downtown san francisco. you can see a lot of 90s. and into the south bay, 91 san jose, 95 morgan hill. so these numbers up over yesterday. ridge of high pressure still in place and will remain in place for the weekend, but we do have a weak sea breeze that is making its way back to the coast. so today is expected to be the hottest day. for some saturday will be a repeat. but heat advisory lasting to 9:00 this evening. but notice the coast not included in this heat advisory. so away from the coast. but at the coast with that weak see breeze we are expecting a little bit better, cooler weather i should say. because some actually like this

between coaching high school football and playing in the nfl. >> well, you know, i think it all goes back to having the right kind of people and making sure that guys are buying into the program and just getting an all in mind set. for me it's been great. i have a great group of kids and a great coaching staff and i'm having a lot of fun. >> you have made it clear you are all about giving back to the community. has that worked out so far in your brief career as a coach. >> without question, for us it's knots just about winning football games, it's about building young men of character and we see that happening and we're excited about it. we're early in the season but we want to build something here so i'm excited about it. >> we're excited to see how you do. best of luck to you and make all those kids healthy tonight we'll show all the highlights
