p.m. >> good evening. i am ken pritchett. >> hello, i am heather holmes. new develops surrounding a officer involved shooting. a man took police on a high- speed chase through san leandro according to investigators. the investigators came to a stop in a quit neighborhood and the officer fired shots but the suspect took off. ktvu's cristina rendon joins us live with details on the search that is underway for the suspect. >> reporter: police have been searching and tracking down leads all day. some leads took them to other parts of the bay area but police are not saying much. at this hour no word of an arrest yet but a neighborhood that has been left a little shaken. >> high-speed chase made a stop in this peaceful neighborhood around 4:30 a.m.

this morning. the sound of sirens, a crashing car and gun shots were wake up calls for residents. >> i heard pop, pop, pop, pop. four shots. the sirens kept going and it stopped. >> it was unnerving to have something so close. >> reporter: what they heard was an officer involved shooting. police say it started on east 14 14th street when a man failed to pull over for driving recklessly. and the driver turned his car around and rammed the officer's car. the officer fired in shelf defense but the suspect got -- self-defense but the suspect got away. >> this is a nice area. people do a lot of walking here. >> typically nothing is happening. especially in this neighborhood. >> reporter: detectives went door to door and are searching for the driver. >> important to find him because he assaulted a police officer and we need to find out whether or not that person was

injured. >> we hope it doesn't happen again, you know, because it is frightening. >> reporter: no one got hurt. >> i was grateful it happened when it happened but it is not a pleasant way to wake up. >> reporter: the officer involved in a veteran police officer. he has been placed on paid administrative leave. cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. another round of heat is hitting the bay area but it didn't stop people from enjoying the outside. this may be our last day before we feel relief. meteorologist mark tamayo is here with a look at the temperatures. >> you can see that shot with the dense fog that is making a come back. that was a key change today. dense fog returning.

that was a look. away from that temperatures soared again. another round of hot temperatures again today. look at the numbers. these are the numbers. santa rosa and concord 95 degrees. livermore checking in 98 -- san jose 89 degrees. san francisco back up into the lower 80s again. yesterday afternoon was 90 degrees. this afternoon 80. here is the change, the fog regrouping off shore. here is a closer look. this is the dense fog that will impact visibility. highway 101. right now the fog settles in near the coast line. away from the fog temperatures are up there. 90s towards livermore. walnut creek. 97 degrees. san jose 88. all the 90s for napa, novato and santa rosa. we have cooler temperature coming up in your monday forecast, how much cooler you

block of harbor road at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. his identity hasn't bip released and no one has been -- been released and no one has been arrested. man in oakland was shot outside a nightclub. this stemmed from a fight near 14th 14th and franklin streets at 1:30 a.m. this morning. the fight escalated and gunfire erupted. three people were hit. one person was taken to the hospital where he died. two others suffered injuries. police yet have not made any arrests. new information on the fight against isis. and what could be the first american military casualty. the u.s. navy says a corporal is presumed dead after efforts to locate him at sea were

unsuccessful. the u.s. military is stepping up its attacks against isis with u.s. forces conducting three air strikes in syria. and in iraq another six air strikes bringing the total to 250 since the campaign began. more from washington. >> reporter: isis is over matched from above but will air strikes be enough? so far this weekend american aircraft destroyed tanks, vehicles, mortar positions and humvees with 3 strikes in syria, bringing the total to 92 since september 23 and six in iraq, bringing the total to 258 since august 8. but lindsey graham said he does not think isis will start hurting till ground troops are deployed. he is warning the white house not to abandon the campaign

in shock after they threatened to behead him. he is an american army veterans from indiana who served in iraq and converted to islam. he was shown on the ground at the end of a video showing the killing of a british aid worker. he was kidnapped delivering aid to syrians in october of last year. following a stint in college he found a group that delivered medical aid in the middle east. >> he was so devoted so he went back. >> his parents released a video appealing to them oo spare their son's life. during the video she speaks directly to her son telling her how proud the family is of his work and how they wish to hug him again. . new at 5:00 p.m. veterans are ping for better

a u.s. airman was killed and two are missing after a typhoon hit okinawa. they were washed out to sea and officials say rough seas are making it difficult to find the two who are missing. it is moving towards the main island with winds of 100 miles per hour. mean time another typhoon is churning nearby. many flights -- many flights are canceled and people are taking shelter in schools. now to the hot weather. people trying to beat the heat. heading out to the coast. san francisco, temperatures there, low 70s. that is one of the coolest places in the bay area. as you see in this picture a shallow fog bank helped to keep things nice and pleasant there. >> my family and i live in personal heights and -- bernal heights and it was hundred hundred 1 degrees yesterday.

p.m., temperatures will be in the 70s. 73 to 76 degrees. early portion of the afternoon. and then the extended forecast, a cooling trend that will continue into the mid-week forecast. tomorrow morning, clear skies, patchy coastal fog. and temperatures in the upper 40s. cooling off in the north bay for santa rosa and napa. 50s for san francisco, hayward and san jose. the onshore flow continues to increase. we will cool things off here. there is the fog bank and high clouds drift into the central portions of the state. there is cold -- there is a cold front that will bump up against us, a strong ridge. it will cool us off monday, tuesday and it will continue into wednesday. our forecast model, the fog regrouping tomorrow morning once again. locally dense. that will impact visibility

was killed is a homeless man who came in every night for a cup of coffee. investigators are looking into whether alcohol was factor in the crash. michael phelps says she putting swimming on hold after his dui arrest. in a statement today he said he will be taking time off to enter a rehab program. last tuesday he was arrested in baltimore for driving under influence, speeding and crossing double lines on a busy interstate. in 2004 he was sentenced to 18 months probation on dui charges. michael phelps tweeted it is necessary to learn and make better decisions. 49 ceo is denying all the rumors that jim harbaugh is on his way out. this after nfl insider of fox sports reported jim harbaugh would not be returning with the 49ers next season. even if the team wins the super

dallas. officials say the man diagnosed with ebola there has taken a turn for the worse. more on that case in texas and why the cdc says fear of the disease will prevent it from spreading. >> reporter: a homeless man wanted in connection with the ebola patient has been found in dallas. he road in the same balance that transported him. officials had announced they were looking for him at a news conference. >> we are doing this as precautionary measure. he is now in critical condition. the man developed the symptoms days after arriving in dallas on september 20. the dcd corrector -- cdc director says fear will help contain ebola. >> we want them to be scared. we want them to have a healthy

massachusetts hospital. doctors do not believe she suffering a reoccurrence but has been tested for it anyway. a man is under arrest for stabbing his mother to death. it happened at 7:00 p.m. last night in hayward. when officers arrived at the home they found the woman suffering from stab wounds. she was pronounced dead at the scene. officers arrested the victim's son. investigators haven't released the name of the victim or anything about a motive. there are reports that hewlett-packard may make a big announcement tomorrow about splitting in two. the company plans to divide itself in two separate operations. one operates the personal computer business and the other world run the software business.

current hewlett-packard ceo would become executive. police say a trailer stolen from a hotel parking lot was full of segway vehicles and it was stoleb between -- stolen between september and october. it was taken from a parking lot. that trailer contained 9 of the segways along with video and audio equipment. sheriff's deputies located the trailer but everything inside was gone. fair hike and schedule train for cal train. one way tickets are 25 cents more and day passes are 50 cents more. they apply to tickets purposed at stations and they are adjusting their time table to replace four rail bridges. the changes are part of a broader effort to keep up with an increase in ridership. president obama is set to visit the bay area again for a

fundraiser. he will speak at an event in san francisco on friday october 10. the reception was originally planned at city hall but was changed to the "w" hotel. this will be his 19th tripe the bay bay -- trip to the bay area. the oldest member of congress is hospitalized in stable condition after a car accident. the 91-year-old was a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle outside dallas yesterday. the paramedics say he was conscious and joking on his way to the hospital. doctors expect him to make a full recovery. he returned to texas for the weekend as he has done during his 32 years in congress. we are learning new details about a fiery crash in southern california that killed five teenagers. authorities say the survivor, a 16-year-old boy, was driving without a license. and that speed did play a role

in the crash. it happened about 2:00 a.m. yesterday morning. investigators say the group was in the sedan and veered off of the road, hit a guard rail and burst into flames. the bodies of five victims were found inside the car. the driver is recovering from serious head injuries tonight  and authorities are still investigating what happened and no charges have been filed. police are warning residents about mountain lion activity. a person who lives on crystal drive found a deer carcass on the walkway this morning. police believe the deer was killed by mountain lion in the morning hours. they are reminding people to take precautions. keeping a close watch on children and hiking or jogging during the day. thousands of people dawn shorts and short sleeves for a

some areas cooled off a little bit. san francisco yesterday 90. today 82. one record to report, san rafael 94, breaking the record of 92 degrees. very warm to hot except near the immediate coast line. the fog bank off shore. a live camera there. clear skies but patchy fog. and higher clouds approaching the central portions of the state and the fog bank, pillar point and the breeze, having an impact near the immediate coast line. with that we will see dense fog off the shoreline for later on tonight and tomorrow morning. as far as current numbers showing you this. we have cooled off one degree in livermore, 98 degrees. san jose upper 80s. oakland downtown 80. san francisco 69. you get the idea with the fog out there. half moon bay 59 degrees. right now in the bay area 59

degrees or 98 degrees towards livermore. a big temperature range. something we would expect in the summer time. warm to hot air is setting up. with that we have the marine layer making a come back. as a result very dense fog near the immediate coast line, that will impact visibility on highway 101 tomorrow morning and could have patches sneak back into the golden gate bridge tomorrow morning. here is the wider perspective. high clouds. high pressure has been controlling the weather. it will remain in place but there is energy moving in that will bump up against the ridge and weaken it. saw a drop off in temperatures for monday and tuesday. but still tomorrow the warmest locations inland will be in the 90s. the fog making a come back coast side and patches in the north bay as well and then into the afternoon hours. you can see the big temperature
