cardinals that's saturday at 5:00. and we're following breaking news from san francisco not far from at&t park. police are at the scene of an officer involved shooting. these are live pictures right now at the scene. at this point police are not saying anything about the incident. but a witness told our photographer that two people were down and one of them was dead. police are sending a spokesman to the scene now and we're working to get more information so we can bring it to you later in this newscast. now to the crash late today of a calfire battling a wildfire in yosemite. the fire fighting agency says it happened outside the west entrance of the park apparently into a cliff side and sending debris on to a freeway below. we get this dropping news from ken pritchett -- developing news from ken pritchett. you learned new information. >> reporter: just a few moments

ago we received new information. emergency crews were able to make at this time that crash scene and were able to determine that the pilot of that cal air tanker has died. we do know from witnesses so this is not a huge surprise given what witnesses are saying that they saw a violent impact as that plane went down. it is unclear if the plane was making or attempting an air drop on that fire at the time of the crash. now this an f215 tanker. same type that crash while fighting the dog fire. the plane cart wheeled and crashed near highway 140. a short distance from the town of mariposa county. there were several park employees that saw the plane go down. a tourist from illinois says he saw the plane go into a plume

of smoke followed by a loud boom. he says it appeared the plane's wing wobbled or turned up. their emergency personnel were able to reach the debris feel. it was on very steep terrain. and the twin engine plane carries 1,200-gallons of retardant. these type of planes are used to quickly attack fires. it was two tankers that collided while fighting a fire in mendocino county killing both of those pilots. >> the dog rock fire has forced the evacuation of dozens of homes. this evening el portal road is closed. fire has burned 130 acres

since it started. the two men arrested sunday in connection with a shooting at a wal-mart in san leandro appeared in court. oscar cruz is charged with attempted murder, robbery using a firearm and being an exfelon in position of a firearm. edward levado was arrested. the two are due back in court tomorrow morning to possibly enter pleas. the coroner identified the carjacking suspect that was shot by police. giovanni contr era s sandoval died after a carjacking that led to a police chase that led through the golden gate bridges and ended in a crash involving that white suv. police chief greg suhr said sandoval shot at a bystander and threatened police with a handgun. people in santa clara had a

chance to make their feelings heard about problems with levi's stadium. parking and traffic are biggest issues with noise from aircraft and banners flying low to people's homes. >> allow a car going by for a little bit. two or three hours of just hovering above our house. our quality of life is being impacted. >> reporter: representatives from the 49ers, police and the transportation facilities were on hand and promised to look into those complaints. it's the stuff of nightmares and horror movies. waking up to find people that aren't supposed to be there. >> my daughter was terrified and waking up to her blood curdling screams was scary.

ventilator and receiving kidney dialysis. the u.s. is ramping up procedures to stop the virus. >> reporter: now that a patient has been diagnosed with ebolan dallas. americans are becoming more concerned that the virus will spread. the u.s. has spent $150 million and is spending as many as 4,000 u.s. military to west africa to treatment centers and trained health care workers. only a small number of highly trained troops will be testing people for ebola abroad. and most of those forces are unlikely to come in contact with sick patients. >> as we deploy america's sons and daughters to support this comprehensive effort we will do everything in our power to mitigate the potential risk to our service members, civilian employees, con contractors and their families. >> reporter: they will step up

west africa. i have fog right now at ocean beach. out by the ballpark. we have nothing in the sunset district and out in colma as well. the fog is working its way across the bay into oakland and berkeley. it's a little deeper than it has the last couple of months. i suspect you will see fog in the east bay hills and it'll just be creeping over the lafayette area tomorrow morning. overnight lows tonight are going to be mainly in the upper 40s and low 50s. the winds are blowing. they're in the right direction. they're blowing at 17 miles per hour. we have sustained winds coming from the west. at fairfield that's just an indication that the winds are going the right way to cool us down. remember last weekend it was heating up the arrows were all coming this way. a cooler weather pattern. a cooling trend. overnight forecast 58 in concord. 58 in fairfield. 59 in antioch. pretty cool in the north bay with upper 40s.

pantry leaving volunteers scrambling to serve the needy. the van at the south hayward parish is used to deliver food and it was stolen. the group says sometime between 4:00 p.m. sunday and 8:00 a.m. monday someone broke into the facility on patrick avenue and made out with the van, cash and bus passes. without the van, operations at the parish are at a near standstill. >> but it gets through this week, maybe next week with volunteers after that. i'm not sure what we're going to do. we haven't been able to -- >> reporter: the parish serves about 100 families a day, 1,000 a week. more than a million dollars worth of electronics were stolen over the weekend. the electronics were stolen at four businesses. investigators believe the same three -- the same suspects are

behind the thefts. >> it takes them about 10 minutes to breakthrough that wall. >> reporter: surveillance video shows pieces of dry wall flying as thieves cut through it. it happened early saturday morning. two men are seen crawling perhaps to avoid motion detectors. it appears four men in hoodies were inside. they cut wires disconnecting the alarm system. you can see them taking video cameras, production equipment and a computer. the total loss is estimated at $175,000. >> i feel very, very violated for someone that actually came in here. >> reporter: the same weekend thieves stole more than $1 million worth of video equipment from black magic design. >> they probably just took that off and pried it so it was lose and took a crow bar to this. >> reporter: more than $100,000 in losses at mac house productions. >> based upon the law being unique, and that it's video cameras and video production equipment. with very high value. >> reporter: surveillance video at mac house shows two men

stealing boxes of equipment hours before the thefts at core microsystems, leaving then returning later that morning to take more merchandise. mac house productions recently shot productions in san francisco for the tv show american idol. >> we're all terrified of being here like late at night now. it's just not a comfortable feeling to have someone in your space. >> reporter: police say the stolen equipment can end up almost any where. sometimes on craigslist and even overseas. in fremont, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. people across the diablo valley said they heard a strange noise late into the night last night. a weird rumbling. it turns out tesoro refinery was starting two weeks of cleaning work. something went wrong and one unit started flairing. the noise could be heard for miles. >> it was really weird. a sound i never heard before. >> i thought it might have been

tonight a ktvu camera went inside to see just what a landlord found inside today. the conditions inside the home prompted a hazmat situation. amber lee is now in vallejo after getting access to that home and seeing the damage done inside, amber. >> reporter: julie the owner told me after he opened the door to his house he was so shocked he called police. outward appearance can be deceptive. an upscale suburban neighborhood that one homeowner says became the perfect cover for suspicious activity. >> they're taking advantage of a quiet community. because it's a good disguise. >> outside the single family home, nothing looks amiss. inside a different story. the four bedroom and three bathhouse is now a horror show. the person who rented it says the landlord used it for what he describes as farming. >> we opened one of the doors

and then we saw plants. >> hundreds of marijuana plants in various stages of growth. >> reporter: leonardo asked us not to show his face. in august he received a phone call from the neighbor reporting that pg & e had removed the electric meeting because of excessive use of power for suspected illegal activity. but leonardo says he could not open the home because of his tenants rights. until he stopped paying the rent. >> now it smells bad. there were mildew all over the wall. >> reporter: the landlord tells me today was the first time he was able to get inside to look at the conditions for himself. he says it's heartbreaking because this home also belonged to his son who is serving in the u.s. military. >> reporter: leonardo's son is a single father stationed in japan raising three children. >> he felt that if something

happened to him, he would at least, his family and children would have a house to live. we feel very bad. very bad. very sad. >> reporter: fire crews were called to the scene to examine the home. but leonardo says he will have to hire a clean up crew. visibly shaken, leonardo questions how this could happen to his son's home while he's serving in the army. >> i don't know how to tell him what had happened to his house. i don't know what to tell him. i don't now how to tell him. >> reporter: leonardo says he's devastated that police told him the tenant may not face criminal charges. that growing marijuana is not always illegal. when i asked police is there a criminal investigation, a police lieutenant says there may not be one. reporting live here in vallejo, amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news.

that was a man saying oh my dog during a fire last friday night in san jose. you tube video shows that man opening a garage door and running into the burning townhome about 30 seconds later, he's back outside with that little dog in his arms. neither he or the dog were hurt. firefighters say it took crews almost two hours to get that fire under control. we now know the identity of a decomposed body found in a golden gate park late last night. a work crew made the discovery on the morning of september 9 as they pulled weeds from mallard lake. today the medical examiner identified the person as 60- year-old gabriel healy of san francisco. no word yet on authorities on how he died. san francisco supervisors passed tough regulations on air

bnb. ktvu's david stevenson tells us what today's decisions will mean for property owners and their guests. >> reporter: the pictures are calm and composed but the debate over air bnb style rentals has been anything but serene. for some property owners the extra income has changed their lives. >> it's allowed me after five years of putting up my dental work to have it done and done well. it's allowed us to offer some help to our son who has a huge college debt. >> our fear is that we'll lose thousands of units to air bnb use and those are units we need desperately for san franciscos who live and work here. >> reporter: the expanding industry is helping spur evictions by those who can make more money on vacation rentals than long term tenants. >> i have no problem with someone sharing their sofa. i think when it is your own private space, you are also not

ktvu has learned new information about the corrosion concerns on the eastern span of the bay bridge. a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow where a scientist will discuss the small amounts of water found at the base of the new signature tower. initial reports indicate the water is rainwater something commonly found in large scale construction. we're told it should not cause unexpected or excessive corrosion. u.s. air strikes failed to stop islamic state militants today from advancing into a syrian town on the border with turkey. huge explosions could be seen

on the town of kobani. turkey's presidents said air strikes may not be enough. turkey has troops and tanks across the border from kobani and so far they're staying out of the battle. it's left at least 14 people dead. kurdish forces are demanding turkey does more to stop isis. the ninth circuit court of appeals struck down bans in idaho and nevada. this follows the supreme court action that clears way for same- sex couples to marry right away. in the next week, same-sex marriage could be legal in 32 states. the giants are moving on. we'll have the celebration in the locker room as the team

new details tonight in the arrest of a marin county school head master on drug charges. 21-year-old britney hall was in court today. she and the head of the branson school, 54-year-old woody price was arrested friday at a hyatt hotel. new revelations in court today as another student has come forward alleging she was molested by a fifth grade teacher in morgan hill. john lloyd already faced charges after a 10-year-old

student at paradise valley elementary claimed he touched her inappropriately. now court documents reveal a 12- year-old former student came forward after lloyd's arrest last thursday with similar claims. >> it's very disturbing any time there's a violation of trust like this, involving a teacher and a student. >> talked to his colleagues. he's an outstanding teacher. he's been active in his union. >> reporter: lloyd is being held without bail. he is expected to enter a plea 10 days from now. mountain view police have arrested a man that assaulted several victims. the attacks happened two days apart on september 26 and 28. a santa clara police officer saw our report and noticed the similarities betweens the attacks and one of his cases.

that led officers to arrest kershaw on sunday. >> basically from the story that ktvu ran that friday right after the assaults, one of the santa clara police department officers had a similar incident happen. he contacted us and let us know about that incident and the assault that happened there. >> investigators are also talking to other police departments to see if kershaw may have assaulted anyone else. across the state californians are saving more water than ever. that's according to state water managers. the state water board reported water savings jumped to 11.5% compared to august 2013. east bay mud says that figure is everyone higher. >> our customers saved 13% which far exceeded the amount that we had initially requested of them earlier this year. >> the water board also revealed almost 20% of local water agencies have not imposed outdoor water use restrictions despite california's drought

and the board talked about a new program in southern california which has paid out almost $83 million to people and businesses to rip out their lawns. we want to take you back now to breaking news. an officer involved shooting just blocks away from at&t park tonight. jana katsuyama is on the scene. jana you just talked to the police chief about what happened. >> reporter: i did. and here's the update. there's one suspect who is dead at this hour. a second suspect who is in sf general who had been shot and a third suspect who is in police custody. now this is all happening between third street and bryant. that's where we are all the way down the block to second street. we understand that police were here doing a crime suppression detail and they noticed a vehicle with three suspects inside. there were three men who kind of appeared to be casing the area. officers watched the vehicle and they say that they saw the suspects break into a mercedes suv on jack london alley on

bryant between second and third. they said they watched the man go back to their vehicle and then they tried to make an arrest. at that point the chief says the officer told the driver to stop, the driver then produced a handgun. >> the driver of the vehicle upon seeing the officers approaching produced a firearm. the officer at gunpoint ordered the person to drop the gun. the driver failed to comply, at some point in time the officer fearing for his safety fired upon the driver striking the driver. >> reporter: the chief says that in that process there was also a passenger in the rear of the suspect's vehicle who was also shot. both of them were taken to sf general and that's where the driver was pronounced dead. again the passenger in the front seat ran away and was later arrested. we do understand that they found stolen items from the mercedes inside the suspects vehicle. right now police are just trying to sort everything out.

but one other thing the chief said is that he believes that some people in the area possibly coming back from the giants game tonight might have seen something or have cell phone video of what happened so he's urging anyone who may have been coming through this area to contact them if they think they might have some evidence that could help. meantime the chief says that back here at the scene, they are anticipating this could take quite a while to clear this area. so certainly with all of the traffic from the game and it being you know an evening hour, there are a lot of people who are going to have to be detoured through this. they say the officer who's involved in this has been placed on administrative leave. right now they couldn't tell us any information about him. how long he had been with the department. but we are hoping to get that information in the morning once they sort all of this out. for now reporting live in san francisco, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. temperatures today were a little cooler than the day before. they continue in that slide.

it was 92 in antioch today. 87 in santa rosa. these highs tomorrow these inland valleys like fairfield and antioch, those will be upper 80s. even mid-80s in some areas. so vallejo may break 70 tomorrow. it's going to be cooler. more fog along the coast. this weather system to the north which is still not well organized is not going to bring us rain. as it drops close to us it will just take that fog and push it inland further. we have fog in san francisco right now. we'll take a shot of it and you will see it. it's tough to see in this nighttime shot. if you look really hard. over here by twin peaks you can kind of see the fog and haze coming over the hill. that's the fog coming over the peaks. there's the traffic on the bay bridge coming northbound. or not technically northbound toward sacramento. these are the current numbers. 73 in the antioch. 65 in fairfield. slightly cooler tomorrow. and fog will return to the coast as we head into tomorrow.

here's the forecast for the fog into tomorrow. we have fog as i mentioned already. it's coming across the city there it is now. it gets further out into oakland. doesn't look like it's going to get past the oakland hills. i suspect it will. i think it'll get into some of these nooks and crannies but it shouldn't get into the concord area. but it'll kind of creep into some more places tomorrow. that is why things will be slightly cooler. reds are 90s the forecast for those inland valleys. that's sacramento valley basically. for us our hot spots our east bay valleys. our northeast bay valleys and southeast bay valleys are going to be running in the upper 80s. cooling trend will continue into tomorrow and right into thursday. it's not huge but it's a slight cooling trend. so fire danger you're not hearing a lot about these bay area fires. you're not hearing about bay area quality issues. as we head into the end of the weekend as we get into saturday night and sunday. we're going to be talking about increased fire danger, decreasing the quality and the heat is heating up again. that on shore pattern wants to develop. in the meantime we have on
