48. we have a lot of fog out there. it's working its way in parts of the san pablo bay for some areas that haven't seen in a while. low clouds. it will be cooler inland with 80s. 60s, 70s by the water. here's sal. we have a lot of slow traffic now approaching san francisco from the east bay. starting off at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 35 to 40- minute drive time from this point across the bridge to the other side and once you are on the bridge, it actually looks okay getting into san francisco as you can see, traffic is moving along nicely but just below here on embarcadero and bryant, san francisco fire department is dealing with an injury crash at that intersection. you may want to avoid that area. it could be slow there on embarcadero at bryant. also, looking at some of the

other commutes, the 580 commute here as you drive out of the livermore valley is the slowest. you are gonna she traffic slow in hayward and fremont. it's moderate on the san mateo bridge over to san mateo. 7:02. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. gunfire erupted outside at&t park last night near the end of the giants' playoff game. police shot and killed one car burglary suspect and wounded another at jack london alley and bryant street. that's where many fans parked their cars before heading to the game. ktvu's tara moriarty is on the scene with the moments leading up to the shooting. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. officers were patrolling this area specifically looking for car burglars or any other type of criminal that might strike while fans were inside the ballpark watching the giants' game. they did notice a suspicious car patrolling this area around here casing the area, and they noticed that three suspects got out of the car, went and broke into a car parked in that

alley. police say the thieves returned to their car after burglarizing the mercedes. as officers approached the suspect's car, they noticed the that the driver had a handgun. police say the driver refused to drop his weapon, forcing the officer to shoot in self- defense. >> the officer fearing for his safety fired upon the driver, striking the driver and another -- we don't know -- if it was a round from the driver or another round struck the passenger. >> reporter: the driver died at the hospital. the passenger shot in the upper body is expected to survive. a third suspect was caught of a running from the scene during the shooting. police recovered the suspect's gun and all of the stolen items from the suv. the officer who opened fire has been paid on ten-day leave which is standard protocol. officers are trying to get surveillance video as well as cell phone video. they ask if anyone was in the

video when the shooting happened and happened to be shooting the scene, that would be helpful in the investigation. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. san francisco police were involved in another deadly shooting two weeks ago. yesterday, the medical examiner confirmed the man who was killed was 34-year-old giovanni sandoval. he's accused of carjacking an suv in the east bay. then leading police on a chase across the richmond/san rafael and golden gate bridges. police say they shot him after he fired shots at a bystander and then threatened police. 7:05. new this morning, a bay area professor woke up to good news this morning. he just won the nobel prize for chemistry. the stan fard educator is in brazil. but we talked to him a little while ago on skype. janine de la vega was also able to talk to his wife as well. you are live in los altos. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning,

dave. yes. we're here at the william of william merner. he and his wife are thrilled. now, she's been awake since 3:00 a.m., she was the one who got a phone call at 3:00 a.m. informing her her husband had just won the nobel prize. she immediately called her husband overseas and broke the news. the national -- the the royal swedish academy of sciences awarded merner the nobel prize for his work in developing new methods to allow microscopes to define details into the nano dimension. for a long time, optical microscopes were limited into how small they were able to see things. but they were able to surpass the limit. scientists can now see how molecules can track protein involved in parkinson's app and huntington's disease and are able to track cell divisions.

here's what merner told us on skype. >> the study of science is incredibly exciting. i'm concerned not enough people are studying science these days. i encourage everyone to ask the question, how does this worker? >> pretty excited i'm incredibly proud. we've sent him an e-mail blast from my family. >> reporter: his we sharon there -- wife sharon there. she says her husband will be flying back to the u.s. tomorrow. i asked her how they were going to celebrate. she said they were definitely going to go out to dinner. they are just honored. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you. 7:07. police in palo alto now investigating the second case of indecent exposure against a young girl. this happened just after 6:30 yesterday evening at byron

street and seal avenue. police say a 10-year-old girl was out walking her dog when a man stopped his car beside her and exposed himself to her. now, that man described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s. he had brown hair. he was driving an older model, white volvo four-door sedan. over 24 hours before that, a man exposed himself to a 14- year-old girl a couple of blocks away at the intersection of embarcadero road and bryant street. now, in that case, the man had a similar description but he was driving a nay i have blue full -- navy blue full-sized pickup truck. a police sketch is expected to come out later today. police in palo alto also increasing patrols in the downtown area after several break-ins targeting rental cars. police say eight cars were burglarized within two hours monday evening. this happened at two parking garages. one on had i street. the other on webster street. police say most of the cars

were rental cars and the thieves stole laptops and tablets left out in plain view. thieves robbed a hayward food bank leaving volunteers there scrambling to serve the needy. sometime between sunday night and monday morning, someone stole this van. the south hayward parish uses it to pick up food from area businesses and stock its pantry. the group says someone also stole cash and bus passes from its office on patrick avenue. without the van operations of the food pantry are at a near standstill. >> i want to get through this week, maybe next week with volunteers. of a that, i'm not sure what we'll do. >> the food pantry serves 100 pantries a day, four days a week. 15 cars ended up with flat tires after a car crashed on the freeway in danville. around 9:30 last night, a car rammed into the center divide on northbound interstate 680 near the sycamore valley road offramp. wreckage was scattered all over

the roadway. that caused flat tires on over a dozen cars driving by. while no one was injured, the northbound road was closed. for 90 minutes as cleanup crews cleared up the mess. 7:09. a haunted house attraction in sacramento based on a serial killer, it's upsetting some people whose loved ones were the victims of that serial killer back in the 1970s. >> the ultimate halloween event. >> now, the haunted house website used to advertise this attraction. it was based on the serial killer named richard tren on chase. he was convicted of six violent murders in the span of one month. he was known as the vampire of sacramento. two of his victims were david rolens and his pregnant wife and unborn child. >> it was horrifying that everybody else somehow is making some kind of situation, money, whatever you want to call it off of other people's

grief. >> now, he says that even after 36 years that murder is still haunting him. he says it doesn't need to haunt anyone else. this morning, the haunted house website no longer makes any reference to chase. it now says the attraction is based on fictional serial killers. we're following developing news from san francisco. firefighters are responding to reports of a carbon monoxide alarm going off at an apartment building. the alarm went off a short time ago at a building on taraville street near 22nd avenue in the city's sunset district. carbon monoxide is a gas that can be toxic but at this point, there are no reports of any injuries ktvu's alex savidge is heading to the scene and will have a live report later this hour. 7:11. parked cars, getting flooded in mill valley. coming up in 20 minutes, what caused that mess out there and how drivers say this could have been prevented. the rumors are swirling

american. >> the flames of war are only beginning to intensify. >> the fbi is using facial recognition technology and voice analysis to try to identify the man. in the video, he first speaks in arabic, then in english. the fbi has posted portions of the isis video on its website asking people to submit tips about the man's identity or any other americans who have traveled or are planning to travel overseas to fight with terrorist groups. rumors continue to swirl around the health and political future of nowk yan leader kim jung un. there's now speculation from south korea that he might be sick or was toppled from power. he's not been seen in public for more than a month and his absence at a major event two weeks ago is fueling even more speculation that he may have been overthrown in a coup. newspapers in south korea have reported the 31-year-old suffers from gout and had broken both ankles because he had gained so much weight.

7:15. more this morning about the crash of a calfire air tanker that killed the pilot. it happened yesterday afternoon near highway 140 near the town of forrester in mariposa county. several witnesses say they saw that plane go down. they heard a loud boom followed by a large plume of smoke. christien kafton, live in the newsroom now where we're waiting for some new information from calfire. >> yes, we've learned that calfire will be holding a briefing at 8:00 this morning. we expect to learn more about the progress on the fire. that crash and hopefully more about the pilot. investigators say they now know the identity of the pilot who died in the crash. that pilot family has requested the name not be released until they can notify all members of their family. we have new video this morning from near the fire. you can see there's flames visible in the area. state 140 is closed at the park entrance. although calfire is not confirming the i tid of the

public -- identity of the public, there are reports that he was from the bay area. we have video of battling a different fire last month. this tanker was used to battle wildfires. we know the pilot worked for dyncorp, the contractor, which provides pilots for fixed wing firefighting efforts for calfire and that plane had been brought in to provide air support against the dog rock fire which began yesterday afternoon. several witnesses said they saw that plane making a low pass before going down. those witnesses said they heard a loud boom and a large plume of smoke. >> i didn't know what kind of aircraft did crash but it was obvious to me it was an aircraft because of the change in the smoke color. it was black smoke. >> we've learned that ntsb investigators are due on the scene later on this morning to begin their on-scene investigation. again, that press briefing set

for 8:00. we'll monitor that and bring you the latest details as we learn them from that briefing. christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. let's check in with sal right now. you are saying drive times are increasing on the eastshore freeway. >> it sure is. on the eastshore freeway, the drive time has doubled on 80 westbound driving from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. started off at about 16 or 17 minutes. now we're more than double as you drive down to the toll plaza. a lot of people getting on the road a little bit late. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 30-minute plus delay getting into san francisco. we promised you a look at the south bay and 280 northbound, you will see so traffic from 101 into cupertino. northbound 85 is slow as you approach saratoga and 101 is slow approaching sunnyvale. they are all slow but we don't have any crashes along the stretch. 7:18. let's go to steve. all right, sal. thank you. there's a lot more fog this morning. some of you saw the eclipse.

others, i couldn't see across the street there was so much fog. this is supertyphoon bong fong. it's heading towards typhoon. wind is 155 to 180 miles an hour. however, it's expected to take the turn and go north towards southern japan. for those of you with a barometer at home, the central pressure is 900-millibars or 26 .58. this is a monster of a typhoon. we'll have to see what happens and not only after it starts to move north but when it turns extra tropical. this is a lot of energy a has can up to across the pacific -- has to come across the pacific. we'll keep an eye on that. it looks like it will take it over southern japan in the next 24, 46 hours. there's a lot of fog. it's been out there. it's making a little bit of a push here. that is the sign that it will be cooler inland. it's not so much a front or anything coming in. it's just the high-pressure system is weakening. we're starting to see this fog

bank lift a little bit. it's been held in check by very warm air aloft. tropical storm, simon is falling apart. but it's sending out a lot of moisture towards arizona. it looks like another round of very heavy rain for phoenix. whos and 50s on -- 40s and 50s on the temperatures. very cool for some. upper 50s for a few. 60s and 70s, higher elevations. sebastopol 46. calistoga, 60. west at sfo, east at hayward. so there's still a slight offshore breeze. that's really -- and the fog is like come on, man. low 60s on the temperatures from bodega bay. san francisco buoy to monterey, they've been holding steady all week long. they are well above average. it's because we haven't had any northwest wind or upswelling. 33 in tahoe. monterey, 54. l.a. 64. we had 20s up in north dakota this morning. now 30s there. bismarck and minneapolis.

here's sal. we're starting with breaking news in san francisco, where there -- or apparently, there's been a boat accident near pier 52 just after 6:00 this morning, san francisco fire department received word that there was a crash of a boat just outside that pier. when firefighters arrived, they found a large debris field, unfortunately, they did find a person in the water who was declared dead at the scene. we do have a crew on the way. the fire department is still investigating this incident. you will see some activity near pier 52, which is south of at&t park. it's not causing a major distraction to some of the city streets nearby. let's go back to some of the commutes here, the bay bridge toll plaza, backed up for a 25, 30-minute delay. traffic is okay once you make it onto the bridge and into san francisco. san jose has been slow. 280 right after 101. stop-and-go traffic. most of that traffic is going to be slow until past the

lawrence expressway. 101 is slow approaching 880 interchange. 7:32. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you, sal. we want to update the developing news from san francisco. we first reported 20 minutes ago, firefighters are responding to reports of a carbon monoxide alarm going off at an apartment building in the sunset district. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live now from the scene on taraville street good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we just found out in speaking with the battalion chief that an elderly man who lives here in the apartment died here while trying to evacuate this building. here's the building behind us here. the fire department is trying to figure out if, in fact, the man's death was related to the carbon monoxide leak inside the building. at this point, they don't think it necessarily was but they will be investigating. this was a 95-year-old man who was one of many people inside this building who evacuated early this morning around 5:00 this morning, when some carbon

monoxide detecters went off inside the building. this man came out of his unit apparently and that's when he collapsed. he was treated by paramedics here at the scene but he has suffered cardiac and died. again, the coroner will try to figure out exactly the cause or the nature of this man's death, if it was, in fact, connected with the carbon monoxide leak inside this building. the place has been evacuated. they are now checking all of the units to make sure it's safe to go back inside. we'll work it get more information from the fire department and have another report. for now we're live in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. another high tide expected early this afternoon . and a mill valley parking lot may be flooded. this video is from last november. this is at park in ride, flood -- flooded out there. yesterday it happened again and caught some people by surprise and some cars were damaged.

brian flores is at the parking lot right now. in a couple of hours, brian, water is expected to rise again. >> reporter: good morning, dave. when we talked to several drivers, they are surprised they weren't warranted about. we're live at the parking right here in mill valley. this area is subject to flooding. typically when it rains or there's high tide or the kings tide rolls through. and that's what happened here. some drivers were warranted as they normally -- weren't warned as they normally would be. >> reporter: this is video of drivers taking their chances about the high tide expected to roll through here later today just before noontime. that could potentially damage several cars here at the park in ride in mill valley. what happened yesterday, there was a high tide of 6.2 feet. several cars parked here were damaged in the lot as the water reached the floorboards. the marin independent journal also reported that one car

stalled and had to be towed because it had a lot of water damage. there are permanent warning signs saying that the lot is subject to flooding but there's also an electronic sign that gives more up to date information. people tell the paper it wasn't on. some drivers we spoke with know how bad the parking lot can get. one man had his suv damaged in this lot because of this. >> the storm came in during very high tide and the water level was way over my door level in my suv. >> reporter: wow. >> so i lost it and i think 30 some other cars lost it, they were destroyed. >> this is a routine. it happens when the high tides come. you kind of know to expect it. >> reporter: many commuters say they are surprised because usually it will typically flood much later in the year, especially when it rains. they are also surprised that caltrans has not come out to block the spaces because they

know the high tide is coming through. this is the sign that typically turns on when there could be potential flooding. it's not on right now as some people wait for their bus to coupe through. this is a park in ride lot. even a higher tide of 6.4 feet is expected to come through here. that's expected to come through here at 11:58 this morning. we're live in mill valley, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. 7:37. boy, there was a remarkable rare, very unusual site in the bay area skies this morning. a lunar eclipse. it started about 2:30 this morning. now, the angle of the earth -- look at that, passing between the sun and the moon caused this reddish glow. they call a blood moon. 7:37. the giants heading to the national league championship series for the third time in

five years. >> on the ground at 2nd. here. game 2 is sunday on fox sports 1. the teams come to san francisco for three and four next tuesday and wednesday. keep that in mind for traffic. if necessary, game will be in san francisco. and if necessary, games 6 and 7 will be back in st. louis. we have complete coverage at ktvu.com including video and fan photos. happening today, a team of scientists will be at a meeting about the recent concerns about corrosion on the new bay bridge. now, ktvu news has learned the scientists will focus on the small amounts of water at the base of the signature tower on the eastern span. now, first reports indicate it's rain water. it's a common problem with most big outdoor construction projects. we're told it should not cause excessive corrosion of the new bridge. starting tonight, caltrans will close down some of the lanes on highways near bridges that were damaged by the quake in napa county last august. none of the bridges failed but several need some spot repairs.

new gravel was going in around the napa river bridge and support of cables on other bridges will need to be replaced. they were stretched when the quake hit. all of that work is due to wrap up by the middle of november. 7:40. police are closely studying surveillance video as they search for the people responsible for a million- dollar heist of electronic equipment. investigators say the same thieves are likely behind the break-ins inned a three different free montstores all early saturday morning. one video shows several men in hoodies crawling perhaps to avoid motion detecters. they made off with video cameras, production equipment an computers at this store and two others. investigators say these thieves seem to know exactly what they wanted and exactly how to steal it. >> the thinking is that they are related based upon the loss being unique, in that it's vices and video production equipment with very high value.

we had a car fire for the traffic coming in on 580 near regatta. there was a car fire coming eastbound. someone just tweeted me about that said she drove by and could feel the heat from the car on fire. the fire department is on the scene. all of this slow traffic is adding up to a big delay coming this way. also at the been toll plaza, you will see traffic backed up to the macarthur maze. that's about a 25 to 30-minute drive time coming into san francisco with no major problems on the actual bridge. we've been looking at highway 4. it's still slow out of bay point and in concord, southbound of 80, it's backed up before 242 heading to walnut creek. let's go to steve. all right. thank you, sal. sunshine over the big city. if you are just waking up, you missed a pretty good show. full moon, had the ekliss, the blood moon and fog is on the move. a little bit of fog on the move. we also have a typhoon, a supertyphoon, same think as a hurricane, just different

designator, different parts of the globe. wind is 155 to 180 miles an hour. i mean, already very impressive eye moving north of the philippines. looks like it's moving towards typhoon. central pressure is 900 millibars or 26.58 inches of mercury. wow. that's a big, big boy. what will be interesting is after all of this starts to move north and recurve, that's a lot of energy that has to come across the pacific, so something to watch over the next ten days. the fog is kind of making a little bit of a push here. more so than we've seen in a while. it just -- if we had a front coming by, that would little ramp it up. as it is, it's creeping in. inland temperatures have been coming down. only a couple of degrees for a few. the trend is to continue this. the high is weakening. the remains of simon are really producing a lot of rain in the four corners and they will continue to do so.

it looks like more heavy rain for phoenix. 40s, 50s temperatures. a little bit cooler. 51 menlo park. 53 foster city and also san mateo. mid-50s los altos hills and into belmont. any breeze? not really. still an offshore for hayward. sfo is trying. it has 6. low 60s on the water temps, they are holding steady. they are still warm for this time of year. 33 in tahoe. 51 ukiah. 56, 54 sacramento and monterey. really cool 20s and 30s up north and the system continues to plow through, one in the great lakes, one in the northeast. one coming out of canada and the desert southwest, those. we have a lot of rain south of us. that's down towards phoenix and heading toward albuquerque. we have a big fog bank. some of that fog has been really thick. so 60s, 70s, 8 o 90s.

on 2." time now 7:54. happening today, san francisco cabdrivers, they will be joining an international day of protest against uber. this is the latest demonstration by cabdrivers against the ride sharing service. the protest will start at noontime outside of uber headquarters on market street. cabdrivers want to draw attention to what they call uber's deceptive business practices and alleged disregard for the regulations cab companies have to follow. similar demonstrations in paris, manila and washington, d.c. back here at home, it will be legal for people living in san francisco to turn their homes into short-term hotels beginning in february. but there are some tough, new regulations. san francisco supervisors approved what they call the air bnb law. it lets people rent out their homes for less than 30 days at a home. but the hosts have to register and pay city hotel taxes and

carry $500,000 in liability insurance. some property owners say the extra income it's changed their lives. but opponents say it's adding to san francisco's housing problems because some of the owners are evicting long-term tenants in order to make more money on vacation rentals. >> our fear is that we'll lose thousands of units to this use. these are units we need for san franciscans who live and work here. >> it's allowed me after five years of putting off dental work have to it done and have it done well. >> critics say it may not be impossible to enforce some of the new rules. a landlord in vallejo allowed ktvu inside a house where the tenant is accused of growing marijuana and leaving a huge mess. the walls are covered in mold and there are also hundreds of marijuana plants in different stages of growth. a couple of months ago, pg&e removed the electric meter for

but without a front or low to come in and lift it. cool down some of the higher elevations. it's confined to the coast. 40s, 50s to 60 at sfo. the delta breeze is the key. kind of watch. it is on the cuss p. if it goes below that, if it gets up to 20, 25, that's a sure sign. not holding steady. a lot of gray. it's mainly confined to the coast and a little bit over the bay. low clouds, more of a low cloud deck than fog. that's one positive sign if you are looking for cooler inland temperatures. more 80s to near 90. coast and bay. 60s 70s. here's sal. we have a lot of slow traffic out there to be sure. we're gonna start off and take a look at these live pictures that show all of the slow traffic getting into the south bay. caltrain ride by. they are a good option. 280, 101 and 85 have re slow into the valley. we haven't had a lot of accidents. another slow commute, 580 through livermore as you drive up to the valley there. southbound 680, we've had a

couple problems heading south out of pleasanton. southbound 680 out of castlewood. we also had a car fire tweeted by a viewer and traffic tote going to the richmond bridge is very slow. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 30, 35-minute drive into san francisco. the time 8:02. back to the desk. thank you, sal. we continue with the breaking news we've been reporting as sal mentioned, rescue crews have found a body in an apparent boat crash off pier 52. the body has been taken to another pier along the waterfront. tara moriarty arrived a short time ago. what have you learned? >> reporter: we know that fire crews pulled the body out of the water about two hours ago. you can see that this location is actually very close to the bay bridge here. the body was found at pier 52 south of the ballpark at 6:15

this morning and sources within the fire department tell us that someone called reporting a boat circling in the bay and then when crews arrived, they discovered pieces of smashed boat, a blanket and a floatation cushion and the body. sources say it appears that the victim was most likely down and unconscious before the boat crashed into the pier. we know that the man is in his 50s. he's from san francisco. and the coroner should be here any minute. and then, of course, we'll be waiting for them to notify family to try to figure out the identity on this victim. we're live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are busy investigating last night's deadly police shooting connected to the giants' game. it happened about 9:00 p.m. at jack london alley and bryant street outside of at&t park. now, the police were on the lookout for people breaking into the parked cars of giants' fans. the police tracked a car that appeared to be casing the area.

they say several suspects went back to the car after they broke into a mercedes suv. well, as police officers approached those suspects, they saw the driver had a gun. police say the driver wouldn't put down the gun and a police officer said he was forced to shoot in self-defense. >> the officer fearing for his safety fired upon the driver, striking the driver and another -- we don't know how -- if it was a round from the driver or another round struck the passenger. >> that driver died at the hospital. the wounded passenger is expected to survive. now, a third suspect in the car was captured after trying to run away during the shooting. the police officer who opened fire, he's been placed on a ten- day administrative leave, who i standard policy. we first reported this breaking news one hour ago, firefighters have confirmed a

95-year-old man has died inside an apartment building in the sunset district. fire crews were called to the apartment building on taraville street near 22nd avenue about two hours argue after a carbon monoxide alarm went -- two hours ago after a carbon monoxide alarm went off. it's not clear if his death was caused by carbon monoxide, which is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly. we'll have more from alex savidge at the scene at 8:30. police in palo alto investigating the second case of indecent exposure against a young girl. it happened about 6:30 yesterday evening at byron street and seal avenue. police say a 10-year-old girl was walking her dog when a man stopped his car beside her and exposed himself to her. that man described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s with brown hair. he was driving an older model white volvo four-door sedan. now, about 24 hours before that, a man exposed himself to

a 14-year-old girl a couple of blocks away at the intersection of embarcadero road and bryant street. now, in that case, the man had a similar description but he was driving a navy blue full- sized pickup truck. a police sketch of that man is expected later today. 8:05. thieves robbed a hayward food bank leaving volunteers there scrambling to serve the needy. sometime between sunday night and monday morning, someone stole this van. the south hayward pay rish uses it pick up food from area -- parish uses it to pick up food from the area and stock food pantries. without the van, operations at the food pantry are at a near standstill. >> gonna get true this week, maybe next week with volunteers. after that, i'm not sure what we're gonna do. >> the pantry serves 100 families a day, four days a week. a haunted house attraction in. sacramento based on a

serial -- a haunted house attraction in sacramento based on a serial killer is upsetting the families of those victims. >> the ultimate halloween event. >> now, the haunted house website that was used to advertise this attraction, it was based on the serial killer named richard trenton chase. he was convicted of six violent murders within a month. he was known as the vampire of sacramento. two of his victims were david wallins's then pregnant wife and unborn child. >> it was horrifying that everyone else somehow is making some kind of situation on money, whatever you want to call it off of other people's grief. >> now, wallin says after 36 years, the murder still haunts hill. he says it does not need to haunt anyone else. he says the witness no longer makes a reference to chase.

the fbi is asking for the public's help to identify an isis militant featured in a propaganda video who may be american. the fbi is using facial

recognition technology and voice analysis to try to identify that man. in the video, he first speaks in arabic and then in english. rumors continue to swirl around the health and future of kim jung un. there's now speculation from south korea that he might be sick or was toppled from power. he's not been seen in public in more than a month. his absence at a major event two weeks ago is fueling even more speculation. he may have been overthrown in a coup. newspapers in south korea have also reported that the 31-year- old suffers from gout and had broken both ankles because he gained so mauch weight. a security change at the nation's airports and border crossings because of ebola. the department of homeland

security just announced agents at airports and other ports of entry, they've been ordered to monitor everyone coming into the u.s. for possible signs of ebola virus. travelers are gonna be given fact sheets on how to look for symptoms themselves. but the officials haven't said when the measures will begin. the centers for disease control says ebola infections could reach more than a million within fowrn month -- four months. the debate over when the chinese economy will be bigger than the u.s. economy is over. that's because it's already happened. the international monetary fund estimates the chinese economy topped $17.6 trillion this year and that's 200 billion more than the estimate for the u.s. most economists had said china would pass the u.s. by 2019. there is a new report that the government can use your identity to catch criminals if you have been arrested for a drug crime. according to buzz feed, a

>> i'm not gonna accept boys will be boys. boys have to grow up to be men. >> school officials say the tough anti-bullying laws were part of their decision. those laws were written after a rutgers university student committed suicide because of cyberbullying. brand-new information about same-sex marriages in idaho and nevada. now, yesterday, the 9th circuit court of appeals in san francisco struck down bans on same-sex marriage in idaho and nevada. gay couples in those states celebrated. some plan to get married today. but just this morning, u.s. supreme court justice anthony kennedy temporarily blocked the ruling of the 9th circuit court. that was after idaho filed and emergency request for an immediate stay. justice kennedy has asked supporters of same-sex marriage in idaho to file a response to this by thursday afternoon.

any major crashes. everyone is on the rad at the same time. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza, that's improving. there's some improvement here. if you are approaching from 880 that would be the way to go using your fastrack transponder. back to the desk. we first told you 90 minutes ago an elderly man has died forced out of his apartment because of high carbon monoxide levels. alex savidge is at 23rd avenue and taraville. you have more about the mystery surrounding this man's death. >> reporter: dave, good morning to you. this was a 95-year-old man who had a heart attack according to firefighters, although paramedics are not necessarily sure that the carbon monoxide had anything to do with his death. firefighters at this point, still can't say exactly why there were elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside this apartment building earlier this morning. thus far they've found no leaks in the building they've searched all other the place.

it was around 5:00 this morning. firefighters came in and they evacuated everyone who lives here and in the process of that evacuation and elderly man was leaving his apartment and that's when firefighters say he suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed inside the building. pair ed micks came in. they -- paramedics came in. they were unable to revive him. at this point, crews cannot figure out what caused that billup of carbon monoxide throughout the building. >> pg&e has been through the building, checked every pilot light, every furnace, water heaters and everything is fine. we have no reason for these elevated levels of carbon monoxide. >> reporter: everybody was evacuated. and then the carbon monoxide levels dissipated and people have been allowed to go back in.

the courtry another -- the coroner will alive and they will figure out if the carbon monoxide had anything to do with the man's death. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. another developing story we're following for you. the discovery of a body off pier 52 at the san francisco waterfront. now, about 6:15 this morning, fire crews got a call. there was a boat out there just circling aimlessly on the bay. when firefighters got there, they found the wreckage of that boat and a body out in the water. investigators think the man was already unconscious when his boat crashed into a pier. that man described as a san francisco man in his 50s. the investigation goes on. police in fremont closely studying surveillance video. they are searching for the people responsible for a million-dollar heist of electronic equipment. investigators say the same thieves are probably behind the break-ins at three different fremont stores early saturday

morning. one video shows several men, they they they had hoodies on, look at them, probably trying to avoid megs detecters -- motion detecters. investigators say these thieves seem to know exactly what they wanted and exactly how to steal it. >> the thinking is that they are related based upon the loss being unique, in that it's video cameras and video production equipment with very high value. >> and police say tracking down that stolen electronic equipment, it will be pretty hard. it can end up anywhere from the internet to overseas. 8:35. the giants heading to the national league championship series for the third time in five years. >> on the ground at 2nd. in san francisco next thursday and if needed games 6 and 7 will be back in st. louis next weekend. we have complete giants playoff coverage for you at ktvu.com including video and some great fan photos. breaking news coming in right now from dallas, texas. the first person diagnosed with ebola in the united states has died. a spokesman for presbyterian hospital in dallas says this man, thomas duncan, died early this morning. now, duncan arrived in dallas on september 20th from liberia. he became sick a couple of days later. he went to the hospital but was released a few hours later. he went back to the emergency room again september 28th. and he's been kept in isolation ever since. his health steady got worse. he was put on a ventilator late last week. health officials are now closely watching ten people who came in direct contact with duncan to make sure they are not infected with ebola. we'll follow this story and bring you more details as the

day goes on. 8:38. well, here at home, another high tide is expected early this afternoon and that could mean more flooding for a parking lot in mill valley. take a look at this video from the park and ride and highway 101 and shore line highway. this is when it was gladded last november. well, yesterday, it happened again. some people were caught by surprise as their cars were damaged. ktvu's brian flores is there at the parking lot now and, brian, that may happen again in a couple of hours. >> reporter: that's right, dave. good morning. that's because of the high tide. that's expected to hit sometime before noon today. we're live here at the park and ride. a lot of drivers, as you can see, commuters, taking their chances. there are signs out here that say subject to flooding but the high tide tide expected to hit at noon. the high tide and flooding is what happened yesterday and many commuters were simply caught offguard.

now, this is video of several drivers taking their chances today, if you will, about the high tide that's expected to roll through here today. high tide 6.4 feet, exerktsed to hit around 11:58 this morning. that could potentially damage several cars in the park and ride lot in mill valley. what happened yesterday, there was a high tide of 6.2 feet and several cars were damaged in this lot as water reached the floorboards. the paper also reported that one car stalled and had to be towed because there was a lot of water damage. there are permanent warning signs saying this lot is subject to flooding but there's also an electronic sign as you pull in here, it gives more up to date information. people tell the paper it wasn't on yesterday. it's not on today as well. some drivers we spoke with know how bad the parking lot can get when it floods. one man says he had his suv damaged because of that severe flooding. >> the storm came in in the

afternoon during the very high tide. the water level was way over my door level in my suv. >> wow. so i lost it. i think 30 something cars also lost it, also were destroyed in the flood. >> this is a routine. it happened when the high tides come and you know to expect it. >> reporter: now, commuters say they are surprised because usually this lot typically floods as we saw the video from what dave mentioned during the winter months, much later on in the year, especially when it rains, but they are also surprised that caltrans has not come out to block some of the parking spaces. as we take it back out here live, a lot of commuters taking their chances. that high tide expected to be 6.4 feet. expected to hit around 11:58. one commuter says if you are headed to this parking lot try to find higher ground. we're live in mill valley, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you.

>> that calfire briefing just wrapped you in the last 15 minutes. firefighters are offering new details on the fire and the crash that killed the pilot of an air fire tanker. we have new video. you can see there's still flames visible. fire officials say that fire broke out yesterday. now, among the equipment called to put that fire out was tanker 81 and its pilot. in the last 45 minutes, calfire says they lost contact with that tanker and pilot shortly before 4:30 yesterday afternoon. crews again searching for the plane and found the pilot and wreckage. they are not offering a lot of details only saying he was a veteran. and that he had a family and that family members are still learning about that crash. >> the pilot was locate shortly after nightfall. recovery efforts from this remote location where he was

found is continuing this morning. out of respect for his family, we are withholding the release of his name until all of the immediate family members can be identified. >> now, calfire has ordered a standdown for all similar aircrafts until te can figure out exactly what happened yesterday an why that plane went down. they say the conditions at the time were clear and warm but they say there was heavy smoke in the area at the time of the crash. crews are hoping to contain the fire as early as tonight. calfire confirmed that the ntsb will be taking over the investigation about that crash. we are hearing that the ntsb could hold a press briefing as early as today to offer more details about that crash. christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. the fight for her life and death. ktvu's pam cook is in the studio with the story of a young woman from san francisco in her last month to live. good morning. >> good morning.

brittany maynard's story is heartbroking and heartwarming. she's a 29 and a newlywed diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year. >> my parents spent a couple of month, they just wanted to search for a miracle. >> but a miracle has not come. instead, she learned her death would most likely be slow and painful. that's when she made the decision to move from san francisco to oregon where there is a death with dignity act. she now has a lethal medication prescribed by a doctor to make the decision when it's right for her. brittany has chosen the day after her husband's birthday, november 1st. >> i will die upstairs in my bedroom that i share with my husband. with my mother and my husband by my side and pass peacefully. >> she's also using her final days to help others to support physician assisted suicide across the country. oregon was the first state to pass a death with dignity law

there's a lot down towards monterey as well. the higher tropical clouds are almost out of california. they are taking aim at the four corners. had a lot of 40s. 50s, the higher elevations there's a few 70s which is really warm. they are coming down about a degree or two each day. if we could get a push, we could cool things down. more 80s than 90s. more rain from the remains of simon moving in towards phoenix, albuquerque, that will give them a lot of clouds and rain. the fog bank is rarin' to go. low clouds, fog, sunny. it will be warm but cooler inland. i mean, the nights are getting longer. the locals are cooler. a couple of 90s holding on. you need a cold front for lake county and other areas to cool down. a lot of 80s in areas that were warmer than this two, three days ago. 70s around the bay. a lot of 80s here. santa cruz at 79. 60s on the coast. 70s, 80s peninsula. upper 70s. mainly low 80s. fog, sun, warm.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." 8:54. it will be legal for people living in san francisco to turn their homes into short-term hotels beginning in february, but there's some tough, new rules. san francisco supervisors approved what they call the air bnb law. it lets people rent out their homes for less than 30 days at a time. but the hosts have to register, they have to pay city hotel taxes, and they have to have $500,000 in liability insurance. some property owners say the extra income has changed their lives. but critics say it's making san francisco's housing problems worse. some owners are kicking out their long-term tenants just so they can make more money on vacation rentals. trading a house for an iphone 6. that's what one detroit homeowner wants in exchangege for his -- exchange for his dilapidated home. the home listed for $5,000.
