good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. new details now about the wildfire burning near yosemite and the veteran pilot of an air tanker who was killed while trying to help fight it. this is video of the fire near yosemite which broke out yesterday. around 4:30 yesterday afternoon, calfire lost contact with tanker 81 and its pilot. that's when crews began searching for the plane. they eventually found the wreckage and the veteran pilot dead at the scene. >> the pilot was located shortly after nightfall. recovery efforts for the pilot from this remote location where he was found is continuing this morning. out of respect for his family, we are withholding the release of the pilot's name until all of the immediate family members can be identified. calfire has ordered the standdown for all similar aircraft until they can figure out exactly what happened yesterday and why the plane went down. the ntsb has taken over the crash investigation and as for

the fire, crews hope to contain it as early as tonight. so far, though, that fire has burned approximately 210 acres and is 0% contained. mark tamayo is here with a look at the conditions the firefighters are facing today. >> the conditions are not extreme. we don't have any red flag warnings in place. but we have the drought to talk about and the fire danger concern across the state. just for reference so you get an idea where the fire is burning. here's groveland, 120. we had a fire this summer. here's the fire. the winds around 3 miles an hour. temperature right now in the upper 70s. could be approaching 80 degrees, the lower 80s for an afternoon high. this is a key concern. we have a very dry weather pattern in place. relative humidity only 20% but at least the weather conditions are not extreme in the area. we have a warmup in the bay area forecast to talk about that coming up. an uber passenger allegedly

injured in a hammer attack by the driver spoke out today with his attorney. 35-year-old roberto talked about his injuries saying he was getting an uber ride with two friends and the next thing he knew doctors at sf general were telling him he had multiple fractures to his face and will need surgery. they don't know yet if he will lose his eye. >> just the thought of losing my eye and not being able to see, get my vision back is a bit of a scary thought. doctors have said that i a very long road of recovery. >> the incident happened september 22nd near ellsworth and alemany driver. the driver allegedly hit the man with a hammer during a dispute over the route. the man's attorney said he's reviewing the legal ramifications but the important question is whether the man will lose his eye. an investigation is underway into a deadly boat crash near at&t park this

morning. around 6:15, a witness reported the man slumped over the steering wheel of a boat going full throttle at the end of pier 52. when rescue crews arrived, the poet slammed into a pier. the rescuers took the body to another pier along the waterfront. they believe he was unconscious before the crash. at this point, they don't know. he was a san francisco resident in his 50s. an rerld man has died -- elderly man has died after collapsing during a carbon monoxide scare. the 95-year-old man suffered a heart attack while evacuating, although paramedics don't think his death is related to the gas leak. carbon monoxide detecters went off around 5:00 this morning inside this building at taraville at 23rd avenue. firefighters cleared every apartment and in the process of evacuating that elderly man suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed. paramedics were unable to revive him. crews spent the morning trying to figure out what caused the

buildup of carbon monoxide. >> pg&e has been through the building, checked every pilot light, furnace, water heater. everything is fine. we have no known reason for these elevated levels of the carbon monoxide. >> people were allowed back into their apartments. the coroner will investigate to find out what factors led to the man's death. the medical examiner has now identified a man killed by police as 26-year-old 0shane evans of loekd. he was shot and -- of oakland. he was shot last night just outside of at&t park. officers were in the area looking for car burglars targeting cars of people at the giants' game. investigators say the officers witnessed several suspects break into a mercedes suv and then return to their own car when officers approached. that's when the officers noticed the driver had a gun. police say when he refused to

drop it, they were forced to shoot in self-defense. >> the officer fearing for his safety fired upon the driver, striking the driver and another -- we don't know how -- whether it was a round from the driver or another round, struck the passenger. >> the driver died at the hospital. a wounded passenger is expected to survive. a third suspect in the car was caught after trying to run during the shooting. another student is coming forward saying she was molested by a fifth grade teacher in morgan hill. john lloyd is already facing charges after a 10-year-old student at paradise valley elementary claimed he touched her inappropriately. now new court documents presented yesterday show that a 12-year-old former student is reporting similar claims. >> it's very disturbing. any time there is a violation of trust like this involving a teacher and a student. >> talked to his colleagues.

he's an outstanding teachers. he's been active in his union. >> lloyd is being held without bail. he's expected to enter a plea in the next week. palo alto police are now investigating a second case of a man exposing himself to a young girl. the most recent incident happened just after 6:30 yesterday evening. at the intersection of byron and seal avenue. police say a 10-year-old girl was walking her dog when a man stopped his car beside her and exposed himself. he's described as a white man in his late 20s or 30s with brown hair driving an older white volvo four-door sedan. this incident comes 24 hours after a man exposed himself to a 14-year-old girl a few blocks away at embarcadero road and bryant street. in that case, the man had a similar description but was driving a navy blue full-sized pickup. we're following developing news on the deadly ebola virus outbreak. thomas duncan, the first person

diagnosed with ebola in the united states, died this morning at the dallas hospital where he was being treated. duncan is from liberia. he may have contracted the virus while there taking care of a dying neighbor. as jonathan reports, duncan's death along with other cases outside of africa helping to spread ebola fears around the globe. >> reporter: angry burial workers going on strike in sierra leone, one of the country's hardest hit by the outbreak. highly contagious bodies are said to be left in the streets and homes in the streets of the capital. workers walking off the job claiming they have not been paid. but the government says the situation has been resolved. more than 600 people dying fromeen in that country alone -- dying from ebola in that country alone. in spain, a nurse and nursing assistant are now being monitored for infection at the madrid hospital where another

outdoor construction projects and we're told it should not cause excessive corrosion of the new bridge. for the third time in five years, the giants are heading to the national league championship series. >> on the ground at 2nd. all that means, somebody else steps up. >> the giants say celebrating in the clubhouse with champagne never gets old. and bryce harper had a terrific series hitting this home run. some people were critical the way he gave the pitcher a hard time, gaving him a staredown. but earlier he sent out a tweet saying to the fans and organization of the sf giants, congrats. well-deserved, classy and unbelievable group of people. the giants now face the cardinals which kicks off at 5:00 saturday night in st. louis. you can watch it right here on ktvu. the pitching matchup is anticipated to be madison bumgarner against adam wainwright. game two is on sunday before the teams come to san francisco for game three and four next tuesday and wednesday. if necessary, game five will also be in san francisco next thursday and if needed game six and seven would be back in st.

louis next weekend. another high tide could mean more flooding. this after reports of several cars damaged during high tide just before 11:30 yesterday morning. it happened at the parking lot of highway 101 and shoreline highway where the tide was 6.2 feet. the lot has seen several floods over the years but typically during the rainy wints, during the winter. despite permanent warning signs, an electrical sign that gives more up to date information was not on yesterday catching some drivers offguard. >> it just gets high in spots mostly down over that way. it's, you know, it hits the bottom of your car. >> weather experts say high tide hit before noon today. so far no word of any damage to cars and caltrans did not block off spaces today as commuters were arriving this morning. californians are getting better at conserving water. the water savings jumped 11.5% in august compared to the same time last year. that's a big increase to the start of summer when

californians were cutting down 4%. people in dublin, livermore and san ramon are making some of the biggest cuts in water use by more than 33% in the last year. and beautiful looking outside toward the golden gate bridge this wednesday afternoon. you can see the low clouds and fog, very shallow marine layer. beautiful though. never gets old, this maimge. here is the tower of the golden gate. that compressed marine layer. with that, big drop in visibility is near the immediate coastline but away from it, a lot of sunshine. here's the satellite perspective with the low clouds and fog hugging the coastline from half moon bay closer to pacifica and san francisco split in half. the eastern portion of san francisco in the clear but here's that fog bank basically targeting out toward golden gate park right around lincoln avenue as well. as far as current numbers out there, we'll take a look at those, we're show you 74 in san

jose. livermore, 83. still fairly warm inland. 80s towards walnut creek. san francisco 62 and santa rosa in the upper 70s. here's what's happening. we have a layer of warm air up above us. it's compressing that marine layer. as a result, that's why we showed you the golden gate bridge. once again, the wider perspective on the satellite but the fog up and down the coast here. high pressure has been in full command of our weather over the past few days. minor changes offshore. some of this energy moves in. that will increase the onshore breeze. a little bit of a cooling trend. a minor one for today through thursday and then we'll go the other direction with increasing offshore winds and warming temperatures by the weekend especially by sunday. here's our forecast model, the fog near the coastline. it resurfaces once again tomorrow morning, thursday morning at 5:00 and then clearing back to near the coast. no big changes in your thursday forecast but then we'll gradually warm up the numbers by the weekend. still fairly warm out towards fairfield and vacaville. upper 80s to the lower 90s.

raise interest rates. you can see the dow's up 223. in fact, the dow has recovered almost all of the points it lost yesterday when investors worried about a slowdown in global growth and the nasdaq is also up 78 and the s&p is up 28. facebook is planning to release a new chat app that lets users to remain anonymous. according to reports, the app lets users inact without revealing their new name. this is a big change since the social media giant recently came under fire requiring people to use real names on it site for what it says are security reasons. no word on when the app would be released or what it will be called. starting in february, san francisco residents will be allowed to turn their homes into short-term hotels. but there are some tough new regulations. san francisco supervisors approved what they called the air bnb law yesterday. it lets people rent their homes for less than 30 days at a

time. but hosts must register, pay city hotel taxes and carry $500,000 in liability insurance. opponents say it could take away some much-needed housing for locals. >> our fear is that we'll lose thousands of units to air bnb use and we need those units. >> it's allowed me after five years of putting off my dental work to have to done and done well. >> critics also say it may not be possible to enforce some of the rules. jetblue is adding nonstop service from san francisco international to las vegas. the new service is set to begin on january 5th. the airline is expected to offer two daily round-trip flights between sfo and las vegas which puts jetblue in direct competition with united, southwest, and virgin america on that route. jetblue already has nonstop service to long beach as well as boston and kennedy airport
