police step up patrols looking for a predator late today for the third time this week we've learned of a man exposing himself. >> someone who's intentionally approaching young girls and young women. >> good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm ken wayne. frank somerville is off tonight. police call it their top priority right now catching the man or men exposing themselves in palo alto. it's happened three times this week. monday and tuesday in a neighborhood with several schools and again today in another side of town in palo

alto. cara liu is live with the story. >> reporter: this latest incident just happened around 3:30. the victim was a woman in her 20s. police are still investigating whether it was related to two other incidents. whether they're dealing with one predator or two this is being given high priority. >> police say they're on high alert. >> our hope is to stop this now so no one needs to be injured. >> reporter: they've increased patrols substantially looking for a predator or predators. >> we've brought in four additional officers every day this week since it's occurred. we've dropped all of our investigative cases and put the

detectives on the field. >> reporter: the first case happened thursday afternoon as a girl, 14 was walking home from school. the same man approached a 10- year-old girl early tuesday evening. the girl was walking her dog about half a mile from monday's incident. this time the victim told detectives the man was driving an older while volvo and asked if she wanted to touch him. >> we are concerned because there's a lot of children that walk to school along these sidewalks. >> i hope they catch the man and bring some peace back to the neighborhood. >> reporter: particularly close attention to full compute rout. >> people are going to come and go. they're going to get their child and go home. we're looking for the person that's different. the person that's sitting there in their car and watching. >> reporter: around 3:30 this afternoon it happened again this time in south palo alto near monroe park. the person was driving by and pulled up in a bmw and asked

for directions as he exposed himself. the victim in this case is said to be in his 40s or 50s. >> kids are around here all the time. we don't want this kind of thing, this is a nice place. >> reporter: police are hoping to release the latest sketch of this suspect by tomorrow. cara liu. a judge today sentenced a former livermore golf instructor to 27 years in prison in a sexual abuse and murder for hire case. 32-year-old andrew nizbit appeared this morning behind glass in a hayward courtroom. he reached a plea deal with a prosecutor that had him pleading guilty for abusing three boys. he also assaulted three other boys. he is also facing charges for a

murder for hire in an attempt to kill two of the other boys. we're concerned to question the police that they want us to believe. we're definitely going to look into this. because this being very specific. >> reporter: at a town hall meeting tonight, chief suhr said officers saw evans and two other men break a car window and steal a laptop near bryan street. when an officer approached the suspect's vehicle to arrest them, evans was in the drivers seat with a gun. that's when officers say evans pointed a gun at officers. a third suspect ran off and was arrested a short time later. police later discovered evans gun was not loaded.

regulator. a city councilman is being sued for alleged sexual harassment. that councilman is pierre luigi avalero. he ran in june but did not advance. alaverio's top aid fedore accused him of calling her vulgar names which caused her emotional distress. a sheriff sergeant has tested negative for ebola. yesterday michael monnig went to the hospital after feeling ill. he had been in the apartment of the liberian man who died of ebola although she had no contact with duncan. dallas mayor mike rawlings saying there were mistakes in duncan's case. >> there were mistakes along the case there's no question about that. we had to move quickly. >> so far no one has shown signs of ebola.

here in the bay area ebola alert signs are now posted outside some hospital emergency rooms. >> amist the scare, how real is the threat? debora villalon. >> reporter: staff members here are training. but right now it's alarm about ebola spreading much larger than the disease itself. >> this is more similar to what people have seen on tv. this is a full body jump suit. >> reporter: it's rare that medical staff needs to suit up so completely. but in hospitals now there's a lot of thought even rehearsal on what to wear so if an ebola patient arrives, protection fills automatically. >> have a very high confidence that when they're caring for a patient that they're protected. that we don't want to set them up for a opportunity to fumble

or contaminate themselves. >> reporter: a patient would enter from the outside not through the hospital. and care can be given but highly contagious disease confined. >> i think everyone knows the nation is frightened and people are frightened of this disease. >> reporter: a secretary of health responding to rising fears. janitors at laguardia airport walked off the job because the body fluids they routinely clean in bathrooms put them at risk. they are demanding training and protection. on a flight to the dominican republic, officers came on to escort a passenger. he had shouted i have ebola. he didn't but nobody on the plane knew that at the time. >> they're frightened because we need to learn what that means. >> in health care there's fear

42-year-old yuseff was arrested for manslaughter and contributing to the delinquency of minors. as patti lee reports, prosecutors say she let teenagers drink at her house. >> reporter: jason park was a fun loving 15-year-old. killed instantly after his best friend crashed into a tree. >> kids will do what they do. but if you're going to contribute to this, it's just wrong. >> reporter: jason park's mother admits her under aged son and his friend should have known better than to drink alcohol. but she can't believe a grown up, a mother of two had provided it. >> i feel sorry for her. because this is going to change her life. and her family's life just like my family and my life has changed. >> reporter: 42-year-old yuseff posted $40,000 bail after she was arrested for manslaughter and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors.

>> it helps. but for me and my husband it doesn't bring my son back. >> reporter: police tell me they took their time with this investigation because parents are supposed to know better and adults who enable under aged drinking have to be held accountable. patti lee,. the chp identified the big rig driver today involved in a deadly collision with a motorcyclist in fremont. surveillance photo shows a semi truck with a white and red cab and two chrome tanks on mission boulevard around 1:15 yesterday afternoon. that's when the motorcycle came into contact with the truck's rear axel. the motorcyclist who was 16 years old died in the hospital. officers want to know if the driver struck the motorcycle. we now know the details of the next strike with the transportation district. it is set for next friday one week from tomorrow and this time it involves buses. >> the dispatchers and bus

servicers will be on strike and that will cause the entire system to be shut down. >> the ferry service will continue to run and the bridge will not be impacted. >> the bus driver's union is not going on strike. the drivers are expected to honor the picket line. 13 unions are now trying to reach a contract. the district says the state mediator can resolve the differences. president obama has started his three day visit to california. tomorrow he's set to arrive to the bay area for another fund raising trip. ken wayne is now in san francisco with his agenda. >> reporter: president obama will be here in san francisco city hall on saturday for a closed event. it's one of two fund raising events that are all about raising money for other democrats currently out on the campaign trail. president obama left washington, d.c. this morning for a three day trip to california. first stop, the cross campus in

under way in placer county. the applegate fire has destroyed five homes and several other outbuildings and is threatening five more. the fire merged into one large fire. now calfire is concerned it may reach the american river canyons. >> there's definitely homes in there. the resources and the state that's a huge watershed area right there. >> the fire has burned 420 acres containers is up to 25% tonight. investigators are looking into the possibility some human action started it. officials in yosemite said today a spark from a vehicle likely started a wildfire burning near the park. so far about 250 acres have burned in the dog rock fire near highway 140 in yosemite. it started on tuesday and it's only about 10% contained tonight. veteran pilot craig hunt was

flying an airplane over the fire when his plane crashed. he was a contract pilot for calfire and was based in holster. craig hunt was 52 years old. quite a bit of fog out there right now. you can see a few high clouds. there's the low fog. it's in san francisco. shooting into the san francisco airport over montclaire. fog and more of it for tomorrow morning. maybe slightly cooler. we're headed for a warm up but not tomorrow. these are the current numbers, 53 in concord, 54 in napa and 54 in novato. this looks like last night. the story tomorrow will be very similar to today. slightly cooler. the real story comes as we get into the weekend when fire danger increases there's a fire weather watch which most likely will turn into a red flag

warning as we move into part of the weekend. this is your tomorrow forecast for the fog. there is, that's a lot. that's the most fog we've seen intruding into the bay in the last week and a half. we don't have any really. it's been hot. the air quality has been bad but you're going to get this big fog foot fingerprint tomorrow morning. it starts us off cooling and it makes us cooler. when i come back we'll talk about this a little bit more specifically i. -- but we're also going to specifically talk about the weather warning that is coming up over the weekend. b.a.r.t. and ac transit has added extra bus service friday and saturday night. it will expand existing lines and will add a new bus line to the pittsburg bus station.

rescued and now looking for a home. they were nursed back to health after facing destruction. ktvu's amber lee spoke to the bay area rescue crew working to give the birds a new lease on life, amber. >> reporter: julie the hens are here in vacaville. they're being kept in a sanctuary where they're waiting for a permanent home. clucks of contentment. >> they're affectionate and friendly and curious. and happy. >> reporter: free to roam in recent weeks as they never have been at another farm at an egg farm in central california. >> they've never spread their wings, they've never walked, they've never flown. >> reporter: at about 2 years old these hens are considered spent. meaning they can no longer produce a high amount of eggs. >> they're thrown into come postheaps just like garbage. >> reporter: so rescuers made a

last may was killed on interstate 280. it was hit by a car last week near the edgewood exit. the big cat spent nine hours wandering around the area. but a gps tracker shows the big cat managed to make its back toward populated areas. students shocked by a noose found on the campus of a bay area high school. and there was a message sent home to those families today. what they will tell students and parents about the noose and what they plan to do about it. loved ones marked 10 years since a man was shot to death the new effort tonight to find his killer. two investigating exposes a case of mistaken identity on the bay bridge. at 10:45, the mix up that could be a sign of a bigger problem. ♪

officials at berkeley high school are investigating a disturbing discovery on campus. a noose hanging from a tree. the district shared details with parents and students, jana katsuyama has the story. >> reporter: it all happened right in the middle of the campus in what they call the campus green space. outside of the buildings but it happened last week. they just informed the students and parents today. students at berkeley high school are upset. >> in my opinion i feel kind of angry but at the same time sad. >> reporter: school officials say they fount the noose hang pittsburgh a tree and reported it -- hanging from a tree and reported it to police. >> i think they said it a bit later. because it happened last week and they just told us right now. >> they should take it serious. they should do a real

investigation. because that shouldn't be played with. >> reporter: school staff sent a letter to state of the unions and parents explained what happening. >> we're investigating this incident. at this time have not been able to determine who is responsible for it or what the intention was behind it. >> reporter: berkeley police say the intent is important as they determine whether this is a hate crime or something else. >> we don't know if this is some type of prank, we don't know the intention. if this turns out to be a hate incident it's not something we tolerate. >> reporter: what many people might not realize is this is specifically addressed in california's penal code. it states in part any person who hangs a noose on the property of a primary school, junior high school, high school or college campus shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not to exceed one year. this is blatant disregard of terrorizing people. that's what police are going to be looking into as they

investigate this situation. jana katsuyama, ktvu news. >> is this the first time something like this has happened at berkeley high. >> reporter: i asked them about that. they said that it isn't exactly the first time that they've had an incident. there was a suicide by hanging that happened about a year ago. that's according to police and the school staff. they say it was someone who was unrelated to the school but obviously that is very much at the top of some of the student's mind. they do plan to have some assemblies of the entire school body as well as classroom discussions just to talk about the impact this may be having on the students. >> okay, jana, thank you. three men are now in custody for killing a father last week. watkins was shot in front of his home while he waited for a relative to park.

detectives believe the suspects were targeting the relative who wasn't hurt and it's not clear why. the men are being held at the santa clara county jail on murder charges. family and friends of a slain oakland man gathered tonight to mark the fifth anniversary of his death. the killing of 20-year-old lee remains unsolved. police announced today the reward being offered for information to help solve this case has now grown to $25,000. lee had just returned home from his job at foot locker on that day back in 2009 when he was shot and killed outside his house during an armed robbery. five years later, lee's friends say there's no sense of peace knowing the gunman is still out there. >> feels like it happened yesterday. he just, not a day goes by that we just don't remember it. it's fresh on our mind and it still hits us hard. we can't just get over it. >> reporter: police say there were witnesses to the killing who were too far away to identify the gunman but investigators think other witnesses who could identify

the assailants may be too scared to come forward. a regularly scheduled meeting in san francisco had one major topic on the agenda, the future of san francisco's embattled fire chief. ktvu's paul chambers spent hours on the job as her job was being discussed. >> reporter: today members of the union and all eight of the employees group met to discuss the chief. >> the result of that was a vote of no confidence and that a letter be sent to the mayor and the san francisco mayor commission. >> reporter: this as the department faces another issue of long delays for ambulance service. in this case an elderly man died everyone though first responders were already on scene and administering cpr. still the ambulance arrived 18 minutes after being dispatched.

this is a sting operation. >> this is under cover video shared with us of a contractor trying to work around the system. agents said he offered to make $8,000 in repairs to a man he thought was the homeowner. but to do any work worth more than $500 you have to have a state issued license. the under cover agent says he seesen contractors take off with checks all the time. >> the first thing he does is goes to the bank. cashes it. it's got $5,000 of your money and you never see him again. >> the state points to three major red flags that show you're dealing with an unlicensed contractor. first no license number. no estimate in writing and a large down payment. a significant cool down today. especially in santa rosa it dropped 8 degrees. the high temperature in santa rosa just 78. the cool down was very

elsewhere. fog and low clouds. more of it we saw this morning. there's the forecast. we already looked at that. you see it's everywhere. it burns off. it's back to the coast where it stays then instead of 90s inland, which we have seen for the last week or so we're going to see mid-80s. so cool. cool and mild as we head into your friday. tomorrow is a lot like today. as you get into the weekend. temperatures heat up and we get into that opportunity for high fire danger. saturday night into sunday because the winds start to go offshore. the air sinks, it dries. there's a good chance for red flag warning. in the north bay hills and east bay hills as the winds go northward. we'll be tracking that for you as we go into tomorrow. maybe a little cooler in some places. 83 in livermore. the air quality with this pattern is good. the fire danger lays down a little bit. the five day forecast with the bay area weekend in view there it is. you can see it's a good one.
