now at noon, the parade of ships making its way under the golden gate bridge in the san francisco bay as fleet week festivities get underway. we'll have your forecast. calfire is reactivating its air tankers after a deadly crash earlier this week that claimed the life of a san jose pilot. what we're learning about the crash investigation so far. plus -- one man is dead and a won fighting for her life after a shooting in san francisco. why police say the public is not at risk.

they are loud. the official airshow does not get underway until tomorrow but people around the bay area have already seen or at least heard the blue angels. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. fleet week is ramping up. ktvu's rosemary orozco has the all-important forecast which can determine whether the blue angels fly but we begin with alex savidge where action is already underway in the water. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. fans are hoping that the fog lifts here in the city soon because the ever popular blue angels are scheduled to fly in a few hours. those pilots need good visibility before they can go up. let me show you the scene. you see big crowds are gathered here. they've been watching the parade of ships. a powerful scene this morning as navy warships cruised under the golden gate bridge as thousands took in the show on store. >> best view in the house right

here. >> reporter: russ mathers and his crew were among the many people who showed up earlier to stake out spots ready for a full day of fleet week festivities made possible by the men and women of the armed forces. what is it that you admire about the men and women? >> their sacrifice. >> get emotional thinking about it. theve given a rot. >> reporter: -- they have given a lot. >> reporter: this 88-year-old has worked on many ships in the past but seeing them up close he's still in awe. >> all of them. every ship. i'm amazed to look at them. >> actually, i saw that in new york a couple of years ago. >> reporter: along the marina green, it's clear that fleet week has made a triumphant return to san francisco after being canceled last year due to sequestration cuts. service members out here showing off america's military might, a marine operates this

assault vehicle says it's a one- of-a-kind experience. >> it's fun. it's an experiencing that nobody else gets to do. i personally enjoy it. i love what i do. >> how does it handle? >> i guess you just gotta drive it like you tow it. >> reporter: and there are no firm numbers but you could get close get a lot of people out there. they will be doing practice guns and all of the -- runs and all of the fleet week continues. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. and for a look at your fleet week forecast, let's turn now to rosemary orozco. does it look like the blue angels will be able to fly today? >> to does look very cloudy out there. i was looking at that live camera at the golden gate bridge. you can see how the fog was covererring portions of the --

covering portions of the tower. as we get into the heakd second part of the day, improving weather as we get into the weekend. today will be the worst of it. as we get into the afternoon, it does clear back a little bit. but if i can circle rear height around the golden gate bridge, it's going to be a tough call. it looks like the fog is going to linger throughout the afternoon. again, we to have improving weather as we get into the weekend, starting with today. partly to mostly cloudy skies with patchy fog. saturday, partly cloudy and warmer and sunday looks like it's going to be a spectacular day for viewing into the afternoon with mostly sunny skies and temperatures will be in the upper 70s in that area. temperatures will continue to climb for all areas as we get into the bay area weekend. i will be lining up your numbers for your neighborhood and address the possibility of fire concerns coming our way as well. tori? >> thank you. we've posted the complete fleet week schedule on

ktvu.com. just look under the hot topics section. don't forget you can always use your mobile ktvu app to get you in and out of san francisco. calfire is lifting its safety standdown on the tankers like the one that crashed. it found no structural problems in the crash that killed craig hunt. federal investigators arrived at the site yesterday. they said witness reports and photos helped them greatly as they ruled out mechanical problems. they also said there was no may day call from the pilot. >> you know, you are on a final drop, afine a -- a final approach to the drop. it's not rare for a pilot not to be calling out stuff. >> calfire said it's been a difficult week for the department. officials are supporting any pilots who do not feel ready to

return to duty. funeral arrangements for hunt are still pending. police in san francisco say an early-morning shooting in the south of market neighborhood was an attempted murder-suicide. brian flores has been at the scene all morning and joins us with more information. good afternoon. >> reporter: hi, good afternoon. police opened up this block of the -- the 500 block of natomaa and 7th a few hours as they completed the initial part of this investigation. one person is dead. another person is cinging to her life -- clinging to her life. this all happened after 5:00 in the apartment unit off natoma police responded after several residents heard gunshots coming from the apartment. san francisco police say the adult man and his female companion got into a confrontation. the man pulled out a gun, shot the woman in the upper body and turned the gun on himself. when police arrived, the man who has yet to be identified was dead and the woman was clinging to her life. she was taken to the hospital.

at last check, she was life- threatening injuries. >> it appears that we have two shooting victims. we have a female victim that was shot in the upper body. transported to san francisco general hospital. she has life-threatening injuries. the male is the suspect. after he shot the female victim, he imposed a self- inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead here at the scene. >> reporter: we're learning new information from san francisco police. they say they've been at that same apartment before for domestic violence calls. at 10:00 p.m., this want was arrested for republic lick drunkenness. when he was released he returned to the apartment at 4:00. he forcefully tried to open the door. the cops were called. all he wanted to do was get clothes and leave but 45 minutes after that, he returned and shot the woman. it remains unclear how he

obtained the gun. other residents say they've heard gunshots around this neighborhood constantly. >> this seems like a pretty normal occurrence in this area. i would say daily am i hearing with shootings somewhere around soma whether it be like 6th street, 5th street, near folsom and howard. this was a -- it happens a lot around here. >> reporter: again, the names of the man and woman have not been released. police say the man was arrested back in 2012 for felony domestic violence but those charges were later dropped by the d.a.'s office because the victim no longer wanted to pursue any legal action. we're live here in san francisco brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. some teachers at an east bay school high school say the violence among students is so bad they are calling it quits. this cell phone video shows students brawling at a shopping setter after class let out. that's prompted some fast-food restaurants to close their doors for a few hours. now some teachers say the

violence is happening on campus at antioch schools and some have transtransferred out or retired early because of safety concerns. one parent said the school is too lax when it comes to discipline. >> this conflict resolution thing, i don't know where they got that from. do you that with students but the warrants don't know -- the parents half the time don't know they've taken two girls or two boys into an office and we're gonna try to talk and work it out. what is your issues what are your problems. let's talk about it. no. call their parents, let them know that they have problems going on. you know what i'm saying? we need you to come in. >> stoke says suspensions don't work since they often reoffend. she successes issuing tickets for community service. the school district has hired four security guards, additional counselors.

a man sought by palo alto police for indecent exposure may have struck again a few hours ago in belmont. two women inside a coffee shop say they saw a man touching himself inappropriately in a parked car. this is in addition to three indecent ecclosure -- exposure incidents in palo alto. the first two were on the north side of town, while the latest happened in south palo alto near monroe park. that's where police say a woman in her 20s was on her bike on miller avenue when a man in a white bmw asked for direction and exposed himself. on monday, a 14-year-old was flashed by a man in a navy pickup truck and then there was another incident at byron and seal. >> you take a picture, no, you are likely to get attacked. go straight home. you don't want to show somewhere where you live.

administrators at berkeley high school are investigating a disturbing discovery on campus. a noose hanging from a tree. a school safety officer found a rope tied in a loop dangling from a tree in the middle of the school last thursday. investigators are looking into it as a possible hate crime. the discovery has shocked and angered students. >> it should be taken way more serious. they should do a real investigation. that's something that -- that shouldn't be played with. >> i feel like angry but at the

same time sad. >> on wednesday, the school sent a notice home to students detailing the discovery. school assemblies and classroom discussions with in the works with a staff meeting addressing the issues set for monday. investigators are checking into whether the noose may have been a suicide attempt after a 21- year-old man who was not a berkeley high student hung himself at the school earlier this year. police in the city of merced in san joaquin county want to know who left a newborn baby in a dumpster. the baby is alive thanks to the quick action of a man searching for recyclables. he found the baby girl yesterday in the dumpster at the apartment complex where he lives. she was just a few hours old. the man said the baby was cold and wrapped in a towel. >> i reached in, grabbed her, gave her to my wife. took off my t-shirt and gave it to her. i said cover the baby up. my wife broughter inside,

massaged her. she heard the baby cry. >> the baby was abandoned despite the safe haven law which says newborns can be surrendered with no questions asked at certain places usually a hospital or fire station. this baby is becared for at a hospital -- this baby is being cared for at a hospital. police say she's very healthy. a bay area rescue home is looking for new homes for 2,000 hence rescued from a farm that could have probably been killed soon because they stopped producing a high number of eggs. the animal police says they've nursed them back to place. >> prior to being pulled out of cames, they had never spread their wings, run, walk, flown. laid in the sun. >> these enhen -- these rens arrived the -- hens arrived at the animal place in september and are waiting for permanent homes.

adoption fees range from $5 to $10 a chicken. we've put a link at ktvu.com. look for the web links section. happening today, president obama will be in the bay area for a fair of fund-raising events. police say drivers should expect traffic delays in the areas where he will be. the president does not have any public eept vets on his schedule but he's been known to make unscheduled stop. air force one is set to arrive at sfo around 3:30. president obama will speak at a fund-raiser tonight in san francisco at the w hotel. he will stay overnight in the city and then will appear at a round table to raise money for the democratic national committee tomorrow morning. we're now learning that the first ebola patient to die in the u.s. was initially released from the efnlts rfnlts after registering 103-degree fever during his visit to the hospital. duncan's fever was so serious it was flagged with an exclamation point in the recordkeeping system but he was still sent home.

so far the texas health presbyterian hospital has not responded to the hospitals. meanwhile, new measures are getting ready to go into affect as one of the busiest airports to try to limit the spread of the virus. >> reporter: airports are taking the spret of ebola very -- threat of especially very seriously. passengers on a u.s. airways flight from philadelphia to the demin kin public broke out their cell phones as four people in hazmat suits removed a passenger. the joke about having ebola didn't go over so well. concerns about ebola prompted a response in alabama as well after an international passenger vomited in the restroom of a plane. the officials confirmed he had not been in west africa before letting the other passengers off the plane. security measures such as thermometers are being used to check travelers leaving liberia, sierra leone and

guinea. thisseveral airports in canada are screening but the process -- >> you don't catch everyone. you catch the people who are frankly ill but those who are infected but not ill can still get through the gate. >> reporter: thomas duncan died in a hospital in dallas, texas. health officials also note fever is a symptom of many illnesses, including malaria which is common in africa but is not transmitted from person to person. the cdc says of 74 feverish people stopped from boarding presence in wef africa, not -- west africa, not a single one is thought to have the virus. i'm andrew spencer reporting. outside our doors, a mild fall day. give you a live look over the oakland estuary.

we're still waiting on the clouds to break. the closer you are to the coastline for today giving you a look at the numbers. temperatures actually a little cooler today as well. 61 degrees right now in oakland. 58 in san francisco. 66 in novato. a cool 59 degrees half moon bay right now. for most of us, temperatures are down slightly. livermore, 67. that's anywhere from 5 to 7 cooler than where you were at lunchtime a day ago. for today, relatively mild. mostly sunny for inland communities. we still have the fog there just inside the bay. we showed you the live shot over portions of the east bay. along the coastline and i think it will be partly to mostly cloudy today when the blue angels practice this afternoon. gonna back it up and show you the responsible party. here is the system. it will move through. and continue it will -- and it will continue to bring you us the clouds and -- bring us the clouds and the onshore breeze.

well, stocks are down but not like the huge swings we've seen this week. some of the reasons for the roller coaster, the economy and october is usual lib the most volatile month of the year. the dow is still 4% below it's all-time high. the dow is down 45 and the s&p is also down 1. tesla stock which tends to be quite volatile is down over 7.5% right now. after the company's newest electric car was unveiled. it's called the model d, which stands for dual. it has two motors, one in the front, one in the back. it offers a new system that moves the car over a lane when the driver uses the turn signal and the car also reads speed limit signs and adjusts the car to the speed of the sign. the cars will have three
