now at noon, hundreds of court workers are on strike in san francisco. why they are picketing today and how it's impacting business in the city. a daring rescue operation in the south bay after a woman crashes her car down a ravine. what led crews to the crash site nearly 16 hours after she went missing. plus the san francisco giants are back home and ready for game 3 of the national league championship series. we're live at at&t park as fans gear up to root on the home team.

good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. if you need to go to traffic court in san francisco today, you are out of luck. half of the city's courtrooms are shut down due to a strike. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from superior court near city hall to tell us who is walking the picket lines and why. good afternoon, tara. >> reporter: good afternoon. there are 250 workers on strike. most of them are court clerks. but court interpreters as well as court reporters have joined in solidarity. you can see them on the corper of polk. they say their employer is not negotiating fairly and has refused to give them the information they need to reach an agreement. they've been out here since about 6:00 this morning. just before 10:00, things got heated. [chanting] >> reporter: court workers yelling at the court executive office. seiu local 1021 has filed

charges with the employment relations labor. >> we are asking for a cost of living raise. we're just trying to keep up with the times now, the economic times. the city workers across the city got 3%. we're just asking for 3% across the table. not just for us but all court workers. >> reporter: but they say that court workers received a 3% sal ray last summer and a $3500 bonus. he says their contract contains a no strike provision. >> we deserve better than a group of rogue unionized employees that break a promise to serve the public. we're not at impasse. there is a lot more talking to yet they want to reduce to theater and games. this matter can only be resolved at the table. >> reporter: the court says san francisco court clerks are the highest paid in the state

raking in more than $88,000 a year. compare that to santa clara at about 66,000 or marin county at 59,000. now, because so many courtrooms are closed, people are being asked to drop off paperwork in boxes in the lobby. now, the court says it was able to save about $16 million this year. so clerks argue that they want their fair share but he says one-third of that many did go to the cost of future healthcare, the rest to make courthouse improvements and balance a budget in the red. the workers say this is a one- day strike only and plan to be out here until 5:30 this evening. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, tara. san francisco police are investigating a shooting at fisherman's wharf. it happened at 3:00 this morning on jefferson street right across from pier 45. police say the shooting victim is a man. he was taken to san francisco general hospital but does not appear to have life-threatening injuries. so far, no arrests have been

made. police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a woman in east san jose. it thanked last -- it happened last night before 8:00 near mckee road and north 33rd street. when officers arrived, they found the woman lying in the road. she was taken to the hospital where she died. the speed limit where she was hit is 25 miles per hour but neighbors say drivers often speed in that area. investigators say a light- colored suv was seen leaving the scene traveling westbound on mckee road. concord police are investigating the suspicious death of a man who was found dead inside his home. the man's caretaker found his body in the house on the 3400 block of stanford street. that's in north concord. investigators are not saying how he was killed or why they believe the death is suspicious. the man's identity has not yet been released. police say it's being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. a campbell woman is in the hospital after being rescued off mount hamilton this

morning. she had been struck overnight in a ravine after her car went down an embankment. janine de la vega was there for the dramatic rescue operation and explains how crews were able to find the woman. >> reporter: all eyes were on this coast guard helicopter this morning as it hovered over mount hamilton in the hills above san jose. their focus a woman from campbell who spent the night in this ravine. >> so right now we're calling it moderately critical, injuries to the lower extremities and abdomen and obviously she's been down there since 2:00 yesterday afternoon. so, you know, probably in quite a bit of shock zblfnth the chp says yesterday afternoon the woman was driving on mount hamilton road when her car fell 500 feet down an embankment. she was thrown out of her chevy which landed upside down. officers say the system in her car alerted them about the accident but they were directed to go to campbell and found nothing. the woman's mother filed a missing person's report with

campbell police. authorities were able to track the woman's cell phone to this area of mount hamilton road and authorities searching overnight ended up spotting her car overturned down this ravine. that was at 5:30 this morning. san jose fire department's urban search-and-rescue team along with the chp and sheriff's deputy sprang into action and climbed counsel to the 28-year-old victim and a helicopter was brought in. a medic rappelled down. it was getting windy for the helicopter so the firefighters started to clear a path through the brush in case they needed to carry her up the hill. in the end, it was safe for crews to hoist the woman up in the aircraft. >> highly trained group of individuals that can perform this type of rescue right here in san jose, i want to say the crews did an excellent job. >> reporter: she was rushed to regional medical center. authorities say she was conscious and talking,

fortunate to have survived a treacherous fall. on mount hamilton, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. happening now -- giants' fans making their way to at&t park ahead of this afternoon's national league championship series game three starts in just about one hour. you can see conditions here at the bay bridge toll plaza. not too bad in the middle there. that's the fastrack lanes but a bit of a backup for the cash lanes on either side. a little bit more than you would expect to see in this noon hour. as you can imagine, on the other side of the bridge, fans are already pouring into the ballpark. ktvu's sal castanedo is near at&t and joins us live. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: tori, good afternoon. you can see for yourself here the fans have started arriving at at&t park. the cloudy weather doesn't really seam to be a deterrent to most people here as they arrive for the first game. first pitch sh at 1:07. tess spite the cloudy weather people seem to be charged up for the game.

the giants began the series by winning the first game. game two was excited. they tied up but came up short after a walkoff home run by the cardinals. fans say the atmosphere here will help the team win. >> i got my rally towel with me. that whole stadium will be bright orange. it's one of the loudest stadiums i've been in. i've been going to baseball games my entire life. >> reporter: today will be pitcher tim hudson who has never pitched in any nlcs gamener any game in his 16-year career. john lackey will pitch for st. louis. a lot of tickets are available on the secondary market as the tuesday middle of the day start may have caused a conflict with some people's work schedules. as for predictions, we have plenty. >> we're gonna beat the keadz. we beat them before. i was raining. i was soaked.

fever. after being put in an isolation room, it was determined that patient was not an ebola risk. the hospital has enough protective gear to comply with cdc recommendations but many nurses across the bay area are still not prepared, they say. >> each and every day we put our lives on the line. >> part of the fear i think amongst the nurses and other healthcare workers is the lack of protocol, a lack of equipment, and a lot of training and education. >> nurses say their biggest concern is being trained on how to properly put on their complicated protective gear and take it off. this morning, we learned facebook's ceo mark zucker burk and his wife are donating $25 million for the u.s. centers for disease control to help fight the ebola epidemic. the dhart foundation says the -- charity foundation says the money will be used for the relief efforts in africa and elsewhere in the world where ebola is a threat. we've learned this afternoon faa will be

investigating the midair emergency on board a flight out of sfo yesterday. alex savidge has more on what passengers saw as the cabin walls began to split shortly after takeoff. >> reporter: it was an almost unbelievable site for joan denny sitting in aisle 14 of this packed american airlines flight that had just taken off from sfo headed for dallas. she heard loud pops, then denny watched the wall next to her seat begin to open up. >> the next thing i knew, the wall kind of next to me had -- looked like it had separated from the wall. it was scary. >> reporter: den nip and most fn else on board -- denny and most everyone else on board began to panic. it felt like the plane was splitting apart. >> people were upset and screaming and saying come back and look at this. everybody came down to look. >> reporter: it turned out to be a busted air duct.

the damage was cosmetic. still, the captain opted to make an emergency landing back at sfo. but that was about a half-hour into the flight and passenger james wilson says at first he and others had to convince the crew to turn around. >> they said we're gonna continue onto dallas. we were not in agreement with that. >> reporter: despite the crack, american airlines says the flight never lost cabin pressure. still, the whole experience was nerve-racking for those on board. >> you think -- i don't think we'll make it. very scary. >> reporter: after the emergency landing, that boeing 757 was taken out of service to be inspected. passengers were put up at hotels for the night and then put on a plane first thing this morning headed for dallas after an unforgettable flight yesterday. at sfo, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. belmont police have just released a new sketch of a man suspected of exposing himself in front of a pete's coffee.

investigators say witnesses reported seeing a man expose himself in front of the pete's on el camino last friday. he's described as a man in his 30s, clean shaven with short dark hair. witnesses tell police he was dressed professionally and was seen driving off in a white four-door bmw sedan. investigators say they are looking into whether the same man is also behind two recent indecent exposure cases in palo alto. this comes as police in campbell are looking for this man who exposed himself to a woman inside a greasery store. you -- grocery store. you can see this sketch is much different from the other cases. police say the man with shaggy hair and a beard flashed a woman inside the safeway on west hamilton avenue near marathon drive. fire crews in marin county are working to contain a wildfire in one of the county's largest groves of redwoods. it's burning in an area known as roy's. county fire officials say it started sometime before dawn and was likely caused by human

activity. crews could not find the fire until first light. there are about 85 people at the fire lines including a large contingent from calfire. they say it burned four acres so far and is about 50% contained. they hope to have it completely contained by the end of the day. the fire marshal will be investigating the cause. fall weather has returned to the bay area. now that it has, i think it's going to stick around for the next several days. giving you a live look at all of the cloudy skies over san francisco. tori mentioned it a little while ago, sal has mentioned it at well. even a -- as well. even a little bit of spotty drizzle. no surprise. take a look at the clouds. very widespread. i can show you on stormtracker2, we have the radar on the move. not picking up any green just yet but i think eventually we will. so in the forecast for the afternoon, we may see just a hit or miss light sprinkle. nothing to impact the game.

i will have a look at that forecast in just a moment. this is the line of rain right in here creeping into the northwest corner of california that's eventually gonna slide over the bay area. it will sort of fizzle out. as it does, i don't think we'll see a whole lot. but it will be enough to get the roads wet, maybe dirty up the car a little bit. notice picking up a few spots here. didn't see it on the radar but the future cast model is picking up on the spotty drizzle there for parts of the north bay and the coast line. as i roll us into the evening hours, we're already into 10:00 tonight. not a lot going on but the rain is moving over parts of the north bay, as we get into the overnight hours, while most of us are sleeping, the light rain moves into the central bay and south bay. by tomorrow morning, we could wake up to slick roads and we may have a few zowrs. by wednesday afternoon, it's moving out and we're drying out. we have cool conditions today. a little bit of rain on the way. amounts, not much up to about

.10. that will be over parts of the north bay. meanwhile, we'll see high sierra snow as well. 66 in oakland. 66 in novato. for most of us, a cooler day. the cooling trend started yesterday and will continue for today. for today's gail, 65 degrees. it will be breezy. the breeze to 20 miles an hour and the spotty drizzle. temperaturewise low 60s at the coast. low to mid 70s around the bay. our temperatures won't be changing a whole lot. as we get into the second half of your weekend, we will get another shot at some rain. it looks like friday, second half of the afternoon into saturday morning and then we're dry for the weekend. but the extended models want to bring us another possibility perhaps monday. >> i'm just seeing 60s and 70s across the board there. much cooler. thank you. >> you got it. if you watch movies and tv shows using netflix, listen up.

get ready for a new fee to use google's online shopping delivery service known as google express. the tech giant is now issuing a fee for the service. that means members will pay $95 a year or $10 a month to get priority delivery times. after a three trial period, nonmembers pay $5 for each delivery. google express is available in san francisco, san jose, and on the peninsula. netflix customers who watch movies and tv shows in ultrahigh definition will start to paying a little more. the los gatos based video streaming service has moved its 4-k content to its most expensive plan. that costs $12 a month which is $3 more than the old price but it also allows for access to netflix on four screens at once. after decades of being considered a community watchdog, the presses are about to stop running at a san francisco newspaper.

tomorrow's edition of the bay guardian will be its last publication, the paper is owned by the san francisco media company which also runs the examiner and sf weekly. it reportedly sent an e-mail today to employees announcing it is full pulling fund for the 48-year-old pay guard yub. it says the paper has failed to make a profit for years. and a san francisco supervisor says he's worried about the number of businesses that are closing in the city. a study commissioned by david campos projects that more than 4300 businesses will have to move or close alone. he's proposing an ordinance to help protect so-called legacy businesses that have become cultural institutions. >> we're seeing these businesses are struggling to pay rents. because many have short-term leases, it is very challenging to stay in this market. campos is proposing to give property owners a tax rebate if
