now at noon -- fears of the spread of ebola within the u.s. are growing as dozens of passengers on a commercial u.s. flight now -- now being warned. we're monsterring the stock market after the dow plunges 400 points. what happens behind the drop? and parents being warned about possible spoiled served to the students at the school. what the district is doing about the problem.

good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. president obama today canceled a fund-raising trip to new jersey and connecticut. instead he's called for a cabinet meeting at the white house to discuss the ebola outbreak. this comes after another texas nurse who cared for ebola patient thomas duncan was diagnosed with the virus. alex savidge has more. >> second healthcare worker at this dallas hospital has tested positive for ebola. she's been identified fi as amber vinson. it's been revealed she was on a front tear airline flight -- frontier airline flight. even though she was not to fly because she was part of the team to treat the first patient who died in the u.s. from ebola. from now on, the cdc will make

sure other health workers who have may been exposed don't get on commercial flights and a hazardous materials team was out cleaning the apartment where this latest patient lives as neighbors there try to stay calm. >> not gonna get too caught up in the panic. >> reporter: the mayor of dallas weighed in on this unprecedented crisis warning that there's the real possibility of more ebola cases soon. >> it may get worse before it gets better. but it will get better. and with this news this morning, the anxiety level goes up a level, we are not fearful. >> reporter: a total of 75 nurses and doctors at texas health presbyterian hospital are now being monitored for potential exposure after helping to treat thomas duncan. he was the first ebola patient diagnosed in the u.s. nurse

knee nan pham contracted ebola while treating duncan and is now in good condition. the second healthcare worker is showing incredible courage after getting the news. >> a person who is dealing with this diagnosis with the grit and grace and the determination that nina has dealt with the diagnosis. >> reporter: we also learned the second healthcare worker with ebola will be transferred to emory university in atlanta where doctors specialize in treating the virus. meantime, the cdc is working to interview all of the 132 other passengers who were on board that flight with the woman earlier this week. in the newsroom, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. the ebola outbreak is one of the reasons u.s. markets plunged at the opening bell and have been sharply lower all day. along with peebl, investors are worried about slow global growth and the glut of oil. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is currently

down 272. it was down over 450 at one point. the nasdaq is down 53. the s&p is down 31. all three indexes now negative for the year and the s&p is close to a 10% drop that market watchers refer to as a corrections. san leandro police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who groped two girls inside a target and a walmart. this is a surveillance still shot of the suspect. police say the first incident occurred monday night around 7:45 at the walmart on hesperian boulevard. police the say the suspect inappropriately touched the young girl. the girl screamed and the man ran away and then he drove to the target store at the bayfair shopping center and did the same thing to another young girl. parents are being warned

after several elementary school kids were fed what is believed to be spoiled mack cony and cheese for -- mack coney and cheese for -- macaroni and cheese for lunch. brian flores has more. >> reporter: hi, tori. good afternoon. we're live in front of martin luther king elementary school here in oakland. this is just one of about 37 elementary schools in the district where possible spoiled mac and cheese were given to kids on monday. at this point, the district has not received any reports of adverse effects. parents are being let know through either a letter or a voice mail. it was prepared at the school district's kitchen located the prescott elementary school. some of the cafeteria workers at those schools noticed a foul smell coming from the mac and cheese. it was then determined that the food was spoiled and the district made an all-out call

for schools to stop serving it. some were able to but for about 4 girls, the mac and cheese may have been served to kids. >> unfortunately, at that time, some students at some sites had already consumed the mac and cheese. fortunately we haven't heard any reports of ill effects or adverse reactions. >> there is a no sign of any disease. but any time we serve that's not fresh or below par we want to get an alert out to students, staff, and let them know what happened. >> reporter: ktvu was given access to the kitchen where thousands of meals are made. we spoke to the director of nutrition services who said two employees were in charge of making the mac and cheese. she said they've worked in the kitchen for a couple of years and they know how to make it but for some reason missed a crucial step from when the meal was prepared to when it could have been served. >> we have the blast chiller,

which is essentially a super refring rater that cools things down to the appropriate temperature very quickly. and unfortunately, that part of the protocol was not followed. when they did not store it properly, then they mixed it with the cheese sauce which was not expired. and we believe that combination of the hot pasta and the cold sauce caused this. >> reporter: the district says more than 4 -- 4,000 poes of the -- 4,000 portions of the mac and cheese were served. parents are urged to notify their doctors if there is any sickness. we're live here in oakland, brian flores, ktvu channel 2

news. >> thank you. new details now on a home- invasion robbery in the assault of a couple in their 90s last month. police say they arrested 30- year-old john lee and 24-year- old donna demitro in oakland. the suspects befriended the elderly couple talked their way into the home before beating them and taking a safe. both victims were injured but recovered from the attacks. the suspects face a series of charges. we learned what may have caused a deadly crash at the cal tanker causing a fire. the ntsb has said briefly there were no structural problems with the plane. the crash killed veteran firefighting pilot 62-year-old craig hunt of san jose. he was dropping fire retardant on on the dog rock fire. it was a wet start to the

personnel to help carry patients off? >> reporter: san francisco firefighters, the coast guard and national park service lifeguards all took part in this drill. they simulated a fire on the upper tech of the ferry using a smoke machine. 45 passengers were forced off the boat and into the water all with varying degrees of injury. three ended up playing patients who died. 15 people were in critical condition. one of them played by nicole. >> you get a sense of what the patient goes through. it's very different being a patient verses a responder in how you handle people. one of my colleagues was assisting me in the water and just with the current, you could feel the -- if someone was altered your face goes into thwater real fast. >> there is a chance of a major catastrophe that would require all different agencies. because of that we need to work with the other agencies, you know, that saves lives. >> reporter: all in all, the

two people are in critical condition after police say a pack of dogs attacked them in their home. it happened around 6:00 last night at a home on glen avenue and modesto. officers arrived to find an older man being mauled by three pit bulls while a fourth pit bull circled the group in the backyard. inside the home, they found a woman who had severe injuries from the dogs. >> we came outside and cops

were everywhere. neighbors were helping try to get the dogs away. >> stan list laws county sheriff's deputy -- stanislaus county sheriff's deputies shot and killed the dogs. they are checking to see if the dogs were microchipped. a new tunnel that travels under the bay has been completed. it was greatly need to deliver water because of earthquakes. janine de la vega is live to tell us why the project is significant. >> good afternoon, tori. we're a couple of miles away from crystal springs reservoir. it receives water n from hetch hetchy. some of the pipes were from the 1920s and '30s. here is some video of the new bay tunnel that's under the bay. construction began in 2010 on the five-mile long pipeline. tunnel will deliver drinking water from hetch hetchy, san

antonio to customers on the peninsula and san francisco. this morning, local officials celebrated the first waters to travel through the bay tunnel and into crystal springs reservoir. the need for seismic upgrades to the water system happened 25 years ago after the loma prieta earthquake. >> it's the first tunnel under the bay. it will take out of service two existing pipelines that go across the dumbarton bridge. it's really size mike resistant -- seismic resistant. >> reporter: today's ceremony was held at the water temple in san mateo county which was built 80 years ago to commemorate the first water to come from hetch hetchy to crystal springs reservoir.

janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. traffic is moving again after a six-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck involving porta-potty chemicals. it happened after 5:00 a.m. on 280. the tanker overturned all of the lanes in the southbound direction were blocked for more than an hour. there were some minor injuries. the deodorizer used spilled from the truck and had to be tested and cleaned up before the lanes could be reopened. well, still some lingering cloud out there. a lot of overcast. we cannot rule out the chance of a popup shower but the main activity from this morning has moved out to the south and the east. here's the satellite perspective for you all lined up and all of the clouds over the bay area. some showers over the sierra as well. possibly some snow for the higher terrain. our next system is lining

upshores. we're expecting another line to push back in the area. on the stormtracker, you can see not much in the way of coverage in terms of rainfall but quite a few scattered showers in place. if we look closely a few popup showers showing up in parts of solano county. this is all light. that will be the theme over the next few hours. also tracking another cell between san mateo and redwood city with a few popup sprinkles. as far as current numbers, most arias are in the 60s. warmest locations in the 70s. san francisco 68 and santa rosa 67 degrees. baseball game this afternoon. the wind was a factor yesterday at at&t park. probably not as strong but a bit of a breeze southwest at 15 miles an hour. partly cloudy skies. a few more clouds leading up to the game. here's our forecast for today. clouds, sun. there's still a chance of a popup shower. another live camera looking out toward oakland. still some of the lingering

fears of a global economy slowdown have triggered a massive selloff in the stock market. it's picking up as we are getting closer to the closing bell. the dow has been down as much as 400 points. it's now down 297. nasdaq down 48. s&p down 30 and the s&p, in fact, is town about 9% from the record high in mid-september. that's close to the 10% drop that market watchers refer to as a correction. notices are going out to toyota car owners about a massive set of recalls affecting 1.7 million vehicles. most of them were sold in japan and involve fuel leaks and a problem with the breaks. another recall includes more than 400,000 lexus models in the u.s. the japanese automaker says in those vehicles made

between 2005 and 010 there is an issue with fuel delivery pipes which could leak and cause a fire. toyota says it's not aware of any crashes or injuries following results from the defects. owners of the new iphone 6 and 6 plus could soon start using the apple pay feature. the service is expected to launch on saturday. it allows users to store credit or debit card information on their phones and then put the device's fingerprint scanner up to a device at the store's register to pay. some of the companies signed up to participate include walgreens, macy and mcdonald's. cable channel hbo says it plans to offer a standalone version of its video streaming service. that means you could watch hbo movies and shows without paying for an hbo cable subscription. pricing has not been announced yet. the move will put hbo is in direct competition with netflix. the new service is expected
