that gave the giants a 6-3 victory over the st. louis cardinals. it was vindication who had misjudged a fly ball earlier in the game, that gave the cardinals a run. and vindication for earlier in the season, before the giants called him up in late july. >> best division i ever played for, throwing me in the outfield, and i just have such a great feeling right now. i can't even describe it. he is normally a first baseman, he was only in the outfield because of an injury to michael morris, he hit a pinch-hit home run that tied the game at 3. the giants going into last night's game by in all 6 of the runs, came from the long ball. >> it was fascinating. >> there is no doubt lots of giants fans will be wearing

something orange showing their pride at work today. ktvu is live in san francisco talking about the excitement felt around the bay area after the game. >> what an incredible game. we are seeing a lot of giants fans still smiling after that helped the teach capture the pennat. and you can probably still tell here the ferry building glowing orange, as other buildings, after that giant's win. what a win it was, a walk-off home run, the third trip to the world series in 5 years for this team and fans, they love it. . that was the scene last night, giants fans flooded the streets of san francisco

drivers honked their horns, for the most part, that was the case police tell us post game celebrations were peaceful, there were no major issues. earlier this morning we caught up with one dedicated giants fans who was up early working he said he missed out on some sleep so he could watch the game last night but it was well worth it. >> it is amazing to see them go throughout the year and make it to the world series again, pretty incredible. while fans were out celebrating, this place was printed, printed 25,000 national championship shirts. they started the printing yesterday so there would be some ready for the players to wear, and it was at the park after the game, after the home run the operation kicked into high gear, all of those shirts

are being boxed off and shipped out to all the giants dugout stores. you can bet fans will be scooping those up later today. the crew tells me they are on stand by in case more shirts need to be made. that very well could be the case. we're live this morning in san francisco. channel 2 news. boy the day is just starting we'll talk more about the giants a little bit later on. the next game will be in kansas city on tuesday. all right. 7:08. the bay area is looking back at the disaster that brought the world series to a halt. it happened 25 years ago today. >> parker at second base, it hit 1989, happened just before the scheduled start of game 3 of the bay bridge world series

between the a's and the giants at candlestick park. the 6.9 quake caused 63 deaths, 3,000 injuries, and billions of dollars in damage. one of the last images of the quake, terrifying scene, the upper deck of the bridge collapsed on to the lower deck killing one person. it led to the construction of the $6.3 billion bay bridge. there have also been $30 million worth of safety upgrades to other bay area roadways and water systems. we have much more on the earthquake, all under hot topics today on ktvu.com. under fire, a fraternity on a campus. we're joined us live in berkeley to tell us about some

really serious allegations being made against one particular fraternity. good morning . >> reporter: good morning dave. police say it was a third party who came forward to report what they say happened to 5 people at this fraternity house located here at the corner of piedmont avenue and bancroft way. 5 individuals were reportedly drugged and sexually assaulted at the fraternity house on piedmont avenue. the drugs that were allegedly given were what's known as roofies. university police handed it over to the berkeley police department because the fraternity house is in the city's jurisdiction and not recognized by the school. this news comes after a student was arrested earlier this month for sexual assault that allegedly occurred at the house>> we're going to be

one bit of good news, they have declared the end of the ebola outbreak in the town of senical. a 12-year-old boy, he was shot in the back as he walked home at bay point. it happened near an apartment complex on well don street. he was with his uncle when those shots were fired. there is a strong possibility the shooting was deliberate, they are not saying why or if adrian or his uncle may have been the intended target. police want more witnesses to come forward if they saw that recent fight in a bathroom at levi stadium. one of the persons who was punched is partially paralyzed. at least 50 people were in the bathroom at the fight. the brothers, they are facing charges of felony assault in connection with that case. they are due back in court next

week for a bail hearing. it is 7:17. one giants fan is especially excited about the return to the world series, brian says, he has no clear memories of the giant's earlier world championships and 2010 and 2012. he was the victim of a vicious beating a parking lot on opening day in 2011. doctors say he is on the road to recovery after suffering critical brain injuries that initially left him in a coma. he is obviously doing much better. >> all right. time is 7:18. i know you're focused on a lot happening in our commute. 280, how is it doing? >> the san jose commute is not

>> a lot of cloud cover moving in. the system is still going to give some rain to the north, it may take awhile to get here for us. some breaks in those clouds, partly cloudy here in the morning, 40s, 50s and 60s on the lows. north coast okay, for us it is going to take awhile. this system is splitting, that makes me nervous. back here is where we have to wait. if it splits offshore, all bets are off, but the rain might be until tonight or saturday. low 60s for some, a couple of 40s, there is some mid-40s waiting for that south breeze to kick in, that's front direction, it is for mountain view, also san jose. still a little bit too far off the coast, but some of the locations showing that as well. mostly cloudy here, a south breeze, mild, there will be some rain later in the north coast, a lot of 70s here. i here there are some issues on the bay bridge? >> westbound side, just as you get into san francisco, either

a plate or a bump that they've been doing a little bit of work on the bridge, right in this area right therebehind that building, it is a speed bump of sorts or loose plate, it's been there for a few days now. joe, if you will move to the left and show us the span, i think that westbound traffic is going to be slow here, he is you know, we're looking at this coming west of treasure island headed slow all the way through as you can see. this is causing a big problem on the bridge. you can see it for yourself. if you're driving into the city, please give yourself extra time as we fade into the other side you can see the bridge traffic is slow getting up to treasure island and as a result of this they've had to turn the lights on extra slow, let's go to the toll plaza. there is a big backup here. taking about 45 minutes to make this drive and that's almost double habit normally should

take even on a busy commute morning. 7:32. as we mentioned, this is the 25th anniversary of the loma prieta earthquake. the deadliest single incident happened on a double-decker freeway in oakland. we're joined live talking to one of the first responders to the collapse of the structure. good morning brian. >> so many memories for so many people here in the bay area. 15 seconds it lasted but it created so much damage. affected so many people. i'm here with rick oliver, who at the time was a paramedic first responder, good morning to you. >> talk about that scene 25 years ago can you describe what it looked like for us? >> it looked like the entire west end of the city had collapsed all the way from the 580 connector down to 880. when the earthquake first happened, i was on a call and i

heard the fire engine on the scene get a report from oakland fire engine 3 that when they pull out of that station, they saw nothing but collapse, concrete, smoke, fire, all the way down as far as they could see requested additional units from wherever they could. >> can you describe to us, you know, thvictims there? describe that scene for us, how were they pulled out? >> some people had actually walked out on their own and the neighborhood was great. they through ladders at people from the surrounding companies had gotten forklifts, and brought everybody down that could walk. and people had actually climbed down from the top structure all the way down from the exposed

rebarb and metal and concrete so people were assisted down. >> i can't imagine what you saw. it must is looked like a scene from a movie. how has this affected you as a person? >> it has made me a little less nervous of earthquakes. it's made me care a lot more about people who are involved in it. i've lived with the thoughts and the memories of this for the last 25 years. it has affected me a little bit. actually it's affected me a lot and it has really changed the way that i think about earthquakes and people and what can happen. all right. thank you for your time. i appreciate that. many memories as we mentioned for so many people here in the bay area. there is going to be a memorial ceremony talking about the loma prieta earthquake. for many people, again, just

another somber anniversary, 25 years after this 15-second earthquake that changed so many lives. we're live here in oakland, ktvu. i remember watching the coverage of the efforts there, it was almost reassuring how people were responding to the aftermath of an emergency, is it was really interesting hearing the story. live for us in oakland. 42 people were killed when that double-decker driver came down. and hours after the structure collapsed. >> my brother sat down on a bed with me and held my hands and said, you've been in an earthquake, and i said, oh, that's what it was. i had no idea. i just didn't know what had happened to me at all. >> the death toll would have been much higher had it not been for the 1989 bay bridge world series going on that

san francisco for game 3 next friday. san francisco police are asking anyone with information about an assault near at&t park to call police. happened when a group was fighting and a gunshot was fired. police don't believe anyone was hit by the bullet, but one victim remain at the scene, that person suffered a fractured nose. it is unclear if this had anything to do with the game. police are asking the public to take a close look at a video which shows 2 men running away if the scene of a deadly stabbing in the city's mission district. this was on december 9th late at night on 24th and cap street right near the 24th street bart station. the stabbing victim was taken to san francisco general hospital where he died of his injuries. anyone with information on this case is asked to contact police

right away. time now, 7:39. police have arrested a man accused of groping 2 girls at a target store and a wal-mart. earlier this week police released this video hoping to catch him. someone who saw the video spotted the man and called the police. the 20-year-old suspect was arrested and a peninsula parking garage where he worked. he was wearing the same distinctive black shirt and red tie that you see on that video. transit buses are rolling this morning. bus workers planned to walk picket lined today but late yesterday the bridge district announced a tentative deal with union workers. a strike that would have affected more than 20,000 bus riders. a prank involving the hooters restaurant changed caused quite an uproar.

someone posted this notice on an empty bar, it was supposedly letting neighbors know that a hooters would soon be opening up at that location. looks pretty real. but the restaurant blog did some digging and found out, that sign was a fake. it says, no application has been filed for a hooters with the department of alcoholic beverage control. a mountain lion has many parents on edge. it was spotted tuesday night on the soccer fields at williams elementary school in the valley. a parent saw the big cat and called police. another neighbor spotted one just a few miles away. the school issued an e-mail telling people to be cautious. i'm really surprised and worried for the kid's safety. >> this has never happened before. i've lived here and we've never had mountain sitings. this was just blocked from

sportsmanships. >> would you jump into the bay for someone else's tickets? a cardinals actually did to help a giant's fan. >> in the water he went and came out with the ticket. >> john took this video, after the wind blew that woman's ticket right out of her hand and into the water, this is at the oakland ferry terminal. that's when a cardinals fan took off his shoes got into the water to get her ticket. >> a cardinals fan came down off the rocks took his shoes off, went in and got her ticket. dove in the water, and now he is swimming back so she has the ticket to the game. it was an unbelievable story with a giant's theme. i'm actually getting chilly just watching him in that water. the woman thanked the man for getting her ticket back. they both got on the ferry and headed to at&t park for the game. we tried to find him or her at

further, as we go passed this building here, traffic gets easier passed this bump. it is slow until you get here. let's go to the toll plaza. we have a 35 to a 45 minute delay. and people have been caught off guard, giving some colorful comments on social media. and let's go and see some slow traffic, 280 and 85 are decent alternates into the valley at this time. i get those same comments. i do know. we have a few sun breaks out there, mostly cloudy skies. there is some rain up north in shelter cove, also somebody up ferndale said, hey, it's raining up here. they'll get the rain first, it is going to take awhile to get

here, there is actually 2 part ins this system, one moving north, another low forming here, this is going to slow it down. we have a long way to go before it reaches us here. it might split when they split, boy, i'll tell you, that's a bear of a forecast. you can see some of that rain in crescent city to eureka. and looks like it is getting near fort brag, still waiting to the north, hillsburg, nothing yet. a lot of cloud cover, for us it is still well, well offshore. it may swing in, but again but not until late this afternoon. there is plenty going on here with this system, when they split they can take the energy of of it. 50s or 60s with that south wind beginning to crank up a little bit. we are looking that to develop here in advance of that front so far on its way. 37 up in tahoe. that will not be a big event for this year, when they split,

loma prieta earthquake forever changed the bay area. it shows you a then and now look at one block in the marina district. that area was badly damaged during that quake. and then the fires that followed. much the area, look atthe aftermath. the anniversary of the loma prieta earthquake, they are close to finishing a seismic upgrade of the system. this was built in 1951, it is the third largest in the city. the last to be upgraded. a 2-year, $30 million sizement upgrade is almost completed, the improvements include large new square posts made out of concrete and rebar to keep it from collapsing. those crews out there shut down one chamber at the time keeping

about the serious allegations being made about one particular frat house. >> we're talking about alleged sexual assaults that supposedly took place at this fraternity house, now we knocked on the door here, nobody answered. police say it was a third party who came forward to report that numerous people were sexually assaulted. 5 individuals were reportedly drugged and sexually assaulted at the fraternity house on piedmont avenue near bancroft. they were known as roofies. the incidents were taking place between friday and sunday. the fraternity house is in the city's jurisdiction, and not recognized by the school. 1 student said she received an e-mail about the incidents. >> i was kind of freaked out.

she may have been sick a lot longer than first thought. before she went to get treatment, she took a frontier airlines flight from cleveland to dallas on monday. frontier airlines is now getting in contact with as many as 800 passengers who may some how be linked to her. some of them flew on her first flight to cleveland last friday. other people were not on the same flights with her, but they flew on the same plane, days later. also a dallas health care worker who handled a lab specimen, she is on a cruise in the caribbean. she has quarantined herself on the ship. she is being closely watched for signs of infection. so far, no symptoms after 17 days. the u.s. is now planning to bring her and her husband back to the u.s. before her ship finishes the cruise. so, news still coming in about ebola, we'll have a lot

collapse of the structure. i remember watching it on tv, brian. >> i do too. dave. just hearing, seeing that video just brings back so many memories. talking to the first responders brings back so many memories for them. we are live here this morning in oakland, station 3, where later on there is going to be a small ceremony for 25 years since the loma prieta earthquake. we're actually half a block away from where the freeway collapsed. if you go along here in oakland, you see a statue that represents twisted columns. there is a line that says 15 seconds,signifying how long that earthquake hit. double-decker freeway that collapsed killing 42 people here, and this morning we spoke with some of the first responders that got to the scene that day as well as oakland residents who remember it like it was yesterday. the worst thing i've had to

deal with up until that point were you know, car accidents, shooting, stabbings, after that, i mean, nothing could be described as to what all this was. i mean, it was like i said, completepandemonium. if you think about it, i feel sad when the people try to jump over the bridge and all that mess. you know, i just feel kind of, just kind of sad a little bit. you know. >> yeah. and happy that i wasn't in it. that you know, it wasn't on the bridge at that time, you know, that i wasn't one of them. disaster experts say the death toll would have been much higher had it not been for the world series. many were at home watching the game between the a's and giants on tv. 60,000 others were at the candlestick park. the lasting image of the damage

been kind of an interesting morning. i think the bridge thing has really thrown people off tori and gave, coming in to san francisco. we're looking at slow traffic; going to start there with a lot of slow traffic on 101, you have a good alternate on 85. let's look at 880 northbound, continues to slow to about the bring wall. bay bridge plaza. still 30 to 45 minutes because of slow traffic on that upper deck. we have a lot of clouds, some sun breaks here there are some areas of rain to the north, and especially on the north coast. this system is trying unfortunately it might be splitting, if that's the case, it is going to take a lot of that rain away from us. it will be 2 parts to this system, one to the north, our area will spin in a lot of clouds, the system we're waiting for is still back here, has a ways to go. on the north coast half inch of rain maybe some more for some, we'll take any kind of rain we

new box coming out november 4th. i loved him in father of the bride, very funny. 8:54. a mountain lion siting has many parents on edge. it was spotted at 7:45 tuesday night on the soccer fields at william's elementary school. a parent saw the big cat and called police. another neighbor spotted one just a few miles away. the school sent out an e-mail telling people to be cautious, this siting was just blocks from where another mountain lion was spotted on the roof of someone's car. a prank involving the hooters restaurant chain caused quite a stir. take a look this notice was posted outside of an empty bar, letting the neighbors know a hooters would open soon. the restaurant blog now reports that was a fake sign. and no application has been filed for a hooters.

well it was a tense rivalry at at&t park between the cardinals and the giants, one cardinals fans came to a rescue when a giants fan needed him the most. take off the jersey! hurry up! yeah! >> there he goes! he took this video after a woman blew her game 5 ticket out of her hand into the water that's when a cardinals fan jumped into the water to get the ticket. >> a cardinals fan came down from the rocks took his shoes off, went on and get her, ticket, it was a great story with a giant's theme. the woman thanked the man, both continued their journey on the ferry and attended the game. >> we really have to find him.
