area right now. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. the countdown is on. the first pitch of game 1 is just five hours away in kansas city. sal castanedo is live in san francisco right now where people are already getting ready for the games here in san francisco. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: tori, good afternoon. there is a couple of giants' fans and a couple of dogs out here. game three and game four are here in san francisco at at&t park. even though you can't see it, a lot of beer, a lot of soft drinks, a lot of food being delivered. beverage deliveries are being made to get raidy for that -- ready for that. it's easy to see people out and about wearing giants' colors. a giants' fan said she's been with the team since it moved west in 1958 and has made sure that tradition continues. >> we're all giants' fans. you better be. if you want dinner, you better

be. >> reporter: you started them off young? >> absolutely. >> reporter: the city, of course, has recent experience with world series appearances by the giants in 2010 and 2012 but the excitement is still there for this third appearance in the last five seasons. if you have not been following along, this team went through a major slump in the middle of the season which had some of the most arcan't fans having --ardent fan fans having doubts. what turned it around? >> the magic was on. that was it. >> reporter: in 2010, the torture theme was there and, of course, the giants have kind of tried to follow that up with pretty dramatic wins. what comes to mind is ishikawa's walkoff win. today the game is on channel 2. a lot of the bars and restaurants have said they will

shooting of lopez by a deputy who mistakenly believed the toy rifle the teen was holding was on ak-47. that deputy was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing and was allowed to return to duty. >> we're not against police because we need them. but there's bad elements that need to be removed like gelhaus. a calfire pilot who was killed while battling a fire in yosemite was remembered this morning in san jose. 62-year-old jeffrey craig hunt was fighting the dog rock fire in yosemite earlier this month when the air tanker he was flying clipped a tree and crashed. he was a veteran pilot who flew in the navy and served in the army. when he was not fighting fire, he taught chemistry at uc santa cruz. he leaves behind a wife and two daughters. this morning, governor jerry brown and leaders with

the nurses association united at the capitol in california. the group discussed ways to better protect furses against ebola. the proposed procedures hazmat suits and training programs. at 1:30, nurses plan to rally in oakland to demand that the state formally adopt the safety procedures. nurses in santa clara county are raising concerns about whether they are ready to handle ebola. that issue was addressed this morning by the board of supervisors. janine de la vega shows us the changes one hospital is making to protect the public and their staff. >> reporter: people stricken witheen are thousands of miles away but the possibility the person with the disease may travel here is something those in the healthcare industry are taking very seriously. the president of the nurses association in santa clara county has been hearing a lot from fellow nurses. >> they have that concern about what will happen if they do get

the disease and if they are exposed to it and separated from their families. >> reporter: dave cortese brought his concerns to county officials. he wants to no whether the healthcare workers here are trained to handle ebola, medical waste left behind from it and if staff has the specialized equipment to treat the disease. there are questions about transporting exposed people or managing hubs like airports and train stations. >> the clock is ticking. we think this is preparedness that needs to happen in hours and days, not in weeks and months. >> reporter: at the board of supervisors' meeting, the head of valley medical center said they are meeting daily. they have implemented screening for the disease at the emergency room and clinic and they've designated areas for infected patients. they are also putting together an ebola care team and providing training. >> today i know that we can assure the public and reap

assure the public -- reassure the public that this county has never been caught flat fooded. >> reporter: county officials say they will sproe vid equipment or gear to valley medical if needed. in regards to private hospitals, the county doesn't have jurisdictions over what guidelines they follow but they are in communications with them with what's recommended. reporting from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a top official with the world health organization says tens of thousands of experimental vaccine doses could be in west africa as soon as january. clinical trials are taking place in europe, africa and the u.s. to determine the safety of two different vaccines. the mother of one of the nurses sickened with ebola said her daughter is doing well. amber vinson is being treated at emory university in atlanta. she was sickened while caring for thomas duncan.

nina pham is being treated in maryland. just yaud her dog ent -- yesterday her dog entered a testing phase to ensure he does not have the virus. the alameda county fire department is bolstering the ranks with the new crop of recruits set to graduate later today. alex savidge is live to explain why this was the first group of firefighters to graduate in several years. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. alameda county fire has not graduated a new it set of recruits since 2011 because the money was not there. but today, 13 new firefighters will join this department thanks to a federal grant. and this morning those firefighter recruits showed off their skills during a simulation at this training center in pleasanton. in this scenario, an suv crashed into the building catching it on fire and the recruits had to rescue a firefighter as their friends

and family looked on. this class has spent the last four months in training and many more years than that preparing for this day and as as the first recruits to graduate in three years, they understand how badly needed they are. >> we're ready to get out there and we're ul-- excited. >> it was a lot of work. finally achieved my goal today. >> reporter: because of budget cuts, the alameda county fire department has been forced to do more with less over the past few years. the chief told me this morning, staffing levels had to be reduced at times which meant many firefighters were forced to stay on and work yore time but the department -- overtime but the department got a 4.1 million grant federal funding for new hires. the safer grant allowed us to

bring us up to the minimum staffing levels to fill the positions we have. we don't have vary can cities. it also reduces our overtime because we have a full body to fill. his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. but as amy kellogg reports, he likely won't spend even half of that sentence in prison. >> reporter: oscar pistorius is behind bars. the olympic runner convicted of culpable homicide and given a maximum five-year sentence for the shooting death of his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. the judge hoping to close the book on the trial, which started in march and was supposed to last just three weeks. >> hopefully this judgment and sentence shall proside some sort of closure for the family and for all concerned so that they can move on with their lives. >> reporter: the prosecution hoped for a harsher sentence. they have 14 days to appeal. the pistorius family said they won't appeal the ruling. >> oscar will embrace this opportunity to pay back to

when she pulled out phone to take a picture, martin reportedly grabnd the phone and threw it on the street. the woman flagged down a police officer and the driver was cited and released. she said she sent four messages to uber but the company did not respond until 20 hours later. and you may remember uber was criticized last month when another uber x driver allegedly hit a passenger in the head with a hammer over a route dispute. the passenger seen her may lose an eye. developers want to replace a two-story structure on williams road with a six-story apartment building. many who live in the area say the planned development is just too big. >> you talk loud. i talk loud. you answer my questions. >> more than 200 people packed a meeting with a developer last night.

that hero. cell phone video shows a man in a blue hat calmly walking into a burning home and walking out with another man on his back. according to a tv station in fres know, that hero, thomas, finally met the man he rescued. the pair hopes their story their inspire others to help someone in need. the biggest news from this morning was how cool it was. we also have a breezy pattern out there. it's mostly sunny. temperatures rebounded from yesterday's weak front. everybody good to go for game one in kansas city. 72. it's friday night at home we're concerned about. a lot of cloud cover streaming toward southern oregon, northern california, also the remains of what was hurricane, now tropical storm ana drifting away from the heavyian islands. there's hints some of this may get caught in this jet stream coming across the gulf of alaska and the pacific and maybe take some of that

taking aim. there will be heavy duty totals and also extreme northern california. not hutch here as we head towards thursday, i buy into this. there could be steady rains in santa rosa. ukiah .50 over an inch to maybe 2.50 to 3 between now and friday up on the north coast. what will happen, we'll see clouds continuing to roll in between wednesday and thursday. then hang up in the north bay and then eventually this system coming in on friday will develop right off the coast. that will send a lot of this moisture northward. we'll have a breezy to windy day. it looks like everyone is coming in after 10:00 on friday. there will be a lot of clouds, maybe breezy to windy at times and very mild with a wind to 70 degrees. we have a couple of days to iron things out. that's the way it looks right now. mostly sunny, breezy for some. again, first pitch looks like in the 60s, upper 60s, low 70s and temperatures today, 60s and 70s for us as well. it doesn't look like they will

china's economic growth as well as strong quarterly results from apple and several other big companies. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is up 206. the nasdaq is up 100. that's over 2 1/3. the s&p is up 36, nearly 2%. one of the biggest office supply companies in the u.s. may be the latest victim of a cyber attack. staples said today it's investigating a possible credit card breach and customers will not be responsible for fraudulent use of their credit cards if there's evidence their data was stolen. the retailer is already speaking with law enforcement about the possible breach. and entrance fees at yosemite will be going up starting january 1st. the fee to drive into the park is set to go from $20 to $30 per vehicle. and an annual pass will go from 40 to 60. this is the first price hike at yosemite since 1997. the national park service says the additional revenue will offset rising maintenance costs
