it's been very exciting baseball but television nice to take a huge lead and relax a little bit. >> and we will ask you tell you about the superstitions to make the giants win. >> yeah we want to hear from you. it's wednesday, october 22nd i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. it is starting off chilly for us. >> yes a lot of 40s showing up. first pitch 70 degrees looks very nice. a lot of cloud cover. the rain is really going to stack up. the seven-day outlook between eureka and seattle is almost in feet. about a foot of rain. some of this will get down to our area. not all of it though. we do have the clouds continue to race across. partly cloudy and mostly sunny today.

walnut creek at 58. 49 san jose. mid 50s up in los altos hills. just a surge of moisture taking aim. mostly sunny and more clouds to the north. mendocino county and lake county. a chilly morning. 60s and also 70s. so slightly warmer. a mild pattern in the afternoon but cool in the morning. here is sal. any updates? we have a pretty good traffic. some people have said that wednesday's are the busiest days of the -- is is the busiest day of the week for the commute. it is already backed up to the mccarthur maze. this is a 20-25 minute drive into san francisco. not too bad. there are no major problems on the span itself getting into the city. also we are looking at 880 right in front of the coliseum. 880 and 580 that traffic is moving along very nicely as you

drive in both directions. i do want to tell you there is a palette fire in gilroy. it's not near highway 101. it's closer to highway 152. you may see the smoke. again 101 is not really effected all though it is a little slow. this is at ferguson at cruise road. maybe about a mile away from the city. and we will let you know more about it as we arrive. let's go back to the desk. look at that. that was a nice pitch. the giants got off to a great start in game one of the world series thanks to hunter pence two run home run. that gave the giants a 3-0 lead over the kansas city royals and they went on to win 7-1. bumgarner pitched seven innings allowing just one run on three hits. cash registers have been

ringing since the start of the playoffs. tara moriarty is right near at & t park with the giant boost to local businesses. tara. >> reporter: yeah it's orange october but it might as well be green october here. we are here at the iron captive. it's a mexican restaurant. and business has been great. and it's about to get even better thanks in part to the giants. for buying drinks and dinner and picking up new giants gear, fans are spending. and san francisco is raking in the profits of big league baseball. don't forget we have also other big moneymakers like oracle open door and dream force as well as fleet week. >> nobody takes that for granted. we know millions of dollars are pumped into our neighborhoods. >> open world alone was projected to generate $120 million in economic activity. and all of this extra revenue is going toward a good cause. education, housing, transportation, and parks in

whole thing of it. >> saturday will be her first time going to a world series game and she says that she hopes to see the giants clench the title that night. all of the world series games right here on ktvu channel 2. our coverage starts at 3:30 this afternoon. first pitch again just after 5:00. but stay tuned for our live post game show and the 10:00 news. games three and four are in san francisco. friday and saturday. be the alameda county religion star of voters scrambling. they want to fix a mistake on the vote by male envelopes. you are in berkeley to show us the error and also tell us what voters are saying about this mix up. good morning, alex. >> reporter:day, good morning to you. it's a small mistake. it could cause some confusion here. take a close look at this mail in ballot envelope. you can see here in the window it says election day is

november 5th, 2014. the problem is election day is actually the day before. on november 4th. 2,000 of these vote by mail envelopes were sent out to voters in berkeley. in an effort to correct this problem, the county religion star will be sending letters and e-mails to all of those people making sure they have the correct date for the election. and elected officials are glad this error was caught early on. in order for them to count, the mail in ballots have to be received by 8:00 p.m. on election day. one man we talked to this morning said he didn't notice this mistake until he got a letter from the religion star of voters. >> if you were putting it off, if people are busy. people have jobs and kids and you know oh, you are look at the front and you have an extra day. yeah it might not, that ballot might not count. or won't count. >> reporter: and election officials are blaming this

mistake on a print tear is used by large counties across the state. and by the way, all the other materials that were mailed out to voters including the ballots themselves do have the correct election date. obviously this one little misprint is causing big problems. it is a good idea if you are a voter to get your ballot before you fill it out and mail it in. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >> very interesting. poll of likely voters was released two weeks before the november election found that 55% of likely voters now expect republicans to win control of the u.s. senate. that is even after 7-10 say they are not happy with the republican leaders in congress. the economy is the top issue for voters along with health care and terrorism. a richmond police officer is reportedly under investigation for having marijuana in his home. today's contra costa times

identifies the officer as joe avila. a veteran member of the department's canine unit. tot evers found marijuana in his home last month after getting a tip. the paper reports that he was placed on administrative leave immediately after that discovery. a 107-year-old water main that burst near san francisco general hospital has been patched up and the road has been temporarily fixed. yesterday morning's early morning rupture caused minor flooding and traffic delays but no property damage reported. a more permanent solution won't be done until the spring of 2015. that is when a new pipeline designed to bend under stress will be installed in that area. time is 6:09. e. coli found in the water in one part of zap jose. coming up in san jose the hundreds of people effected and what they are being told to do. but first talk of a new toll on the golden gate bridge.

stop and look at this. we have more on this breaking news sal first told you about at the top of the hour. these are live pictures. news chopper 2 flying over this wood palette fire. it's going pretty good. this started about 4:30 this morning. it's burning at ferguson and cruise road. both of those roads are shut down right now. gilroy fire has asked for mutual aid. we already know san jose is sending ladder trucks and water tenders. this is what is burning. a wood palette fire in gilroy near highway 101. we will keep an eye on this. again these are live pictures. we'll bring you more information on what is happening out there in gilroy as it comes into our newsroom. meantime a san francisco supervisor is calling for the city's domestic violence committee to reconvene. supervisor jane kim introduced

a resolution yesterday. this is after the deadly shooting of a woman in her south of market home earlier this month. it was the city's fourth domestic violence related homicide this year. supervisor kim says the domestic violence panel they need to meet again to talk about ways to prevent future violence. that panel by the way has not met for the past four years. now a to low up to a story we brought you yesterday about a woman who claims her uber driver dragged her out of the car in san francisco and smashed her phone. the driver told the san francisco chronicle he never touched the woman or her phone. the woman was upset before she got into the car and he asked her to get out after she refused to give her an address or cross streets to her destination. he was cited for three misdemeanors and uber deactivated him as a driver. three bank robbery suspects

are in jail in the south bay. they are facing charges in four holdups across santa claire real county in the past year. they arrested the three men yesterday saying they all have ties to a salinas gang. with halloween right around the corner, fish and wildlife officials are trying to ease mountain lion fears after an increase in sightings in the south bay. a meeting was held in san jose to address concerns. one surveillance camera caught a mountain lion pouncing on a car. another woman says her daughter saw a lion outside of their home. >> we have a big window and the window was open. so she was afraid for her life. she weighs like 95 pounds. so she hid until it passed and ran upstairs. >> a wildlife official says they want to educate people about what to do if they see a

mountain lion. they say to make yourself look as big as you can and make a lot of noise and yell at the lion. the golden gate bridge committee will meet. drivers pay up to $7 to dry across the golden gate bridge but the many people who walk or bike across the bridge every day they do it for free. but all of that may change because of the budget problems for the bridge district. >> the district has a $33 million five-year deficit they are trying to address. >> charging to walk or bike across causes a distance. >> there is no word on how much it will cost. but that is a talker. people will be talking about the possibility. >> yes i've already started that conversation on twitter. i know sal, we will hear from a lot of people on that. you know i have to confess, i was looking at this gilroy

thing. i have no idea what you're talking about. >> we're talking about paying to walk across the golden gate bridge. >> oh yeah i've already heard about that. let's take a look at the commute now. i do want to start with the gilroy fire breaking news here. highway 101. it is visible from highway 101 in gilroy. this large palette fire. news chopper 2 is on the scene here of the fire. and i want to mention that some of the roads are closed. i'm just reading what the fire department put up on the list. please give yourself extra time if this is your commute in the area. and again news chopper 2 was there. i was asking our photographer if he could see the fire from far away. he said he could see it from

miles away. let's see if we can get traffic in here. the traffic is going to be moderate in the bay area. going to see traffic on 880 north and southbound. it looks okay. once you get to the toll plaza, it's a moderate delay. fortunately we don't have a lot going on. let's go to steve in the weather center. >> thank you, sir. we do have mostly clear skies or partly cloudy to the north. game two forecast looks fabulous. and same as game one. it will be mostly sunny. 70-degrees. remains of anna. tropical storm anna now moving away from the hawaiian islands. but there are signs that it could take aim at the pacific northwest. the train of moisture continues to be really impressive. it's staying north though and it will continue to stay north. although some of the clouds will dip, dip. it will drape over us. the next few days already beginning to happen to parts to

the north. and the rain is going to keep going on and on. there could be some very heavy totals over the next 5-7 days. san francisco low 56. high of 68 today. the record low 47 in 1949. the record high 90 back in 1929. so we won't see anything like that today. 40s on the temps. napa is 44. half-moon bay at 46. walnut creek says 47. morgan hill upper 40s. gilroy in at the 40s. sunnyvale and fremont. it is a little cool but the water temps remain warm. 61-64. 48 up in ukiah. 28 in truckee. 51 in monterey. look at all the moisture. by the next 5-7 degrees easily 8-10 inches of rain could fall. some of this will start

drifting south. the rainfall patrol jury excuseds show really heavy up toward eureka north. look at where the line ends. this could be a pattern where there is light rain there and sunny and really warm. the cloud deck will start drifting south but then it will put on the breaks. that is the line of rain which will come in on thursday. but then it really doesn't move that far south. a sam will -- a system will be developing offshore. hence the game three forecast looks very warm to me. i think a breezy to windy and 70s. the rain will hold off until late friday into early saturday. today mostly sunny and more clouds to the north. a chilly morning. a lot of 40s. even with some of that cloud cover to the north. 60s and 70s normal highs around 69-74. although it will warm up in the next couple of days. windy and warm on friday. much cooler with rain early saturday. and maybe early saturday

afternoon. and cooler into sunday. >> okay. so pretty good for the commute all week. >> yes, i would agree. 6:20 is the time right now. the number of americans taking out mortgages is expected to grow next year. the mortgage bankers association says interest rates on 30 year loans is expected to remain at or below 4% next year. the nba forecasting a 7% increase in mortgages. banker says the strong job growth will make home buying more attractive to more people. millions of customers had their credit or debt card information stolen at the peak of last years shopping season. target is offering free shipping for all online orders from now until december 20th. which is the last day for receiving orders by christmas. target also plans to expand the price matching program. starting november 1st flew christmas eve, target will

partly cloudy. more clouds to the north. even though the days are getting shorter, if you are in the sun it will be in the mid 70s. most of it is taking aim to the north where they will be stacking up pretty good rain totals. 40s for many or 50s. petaluma all in the 40s. look at that. this is really going to be beneficial rain but extreme northern california not for us until maybe late friday and then into early saturday. most city sunny and clouds to the north. 60s and also 70s. sal has been busy with a fire down in gilroy. any update on that? yeah it seems to be getting a little bit bigger unfortunately. this palette fire. also a nearby structure is up here in gilroy. this is crews road at ferguson but they have closed ferguson

at cruise. they have closed a lot of the roads in the area. a lot of people use that on a normal basis. you can use highway 152 as an alternate because this fire is bringing in a lot of equipment. so because of this fire, ferguson road is closed between 152 and dunlap avenue here. watch for some slow traffic in the area as fire crews arrive. this can be seen from a long way away. not only the glow but starting to get a little lighter. bay bridge about a 20-25 minute delay. no problems on the tollbridge itself. and if you are driving on interstate 880 or 580 in oakland, so far so good. no problems by the way on highway 24 from walnut creek to oakland westbound 24 looks good. 6:32 let's go back to the desk.

kansas city. again most likely for those giant fans. for royal fans they are waking up to this. it's the front page of the kansas city star. you can see bummer in reference to madison bumgarner and the seven innings he tossed last night. a few folks on my right. your first world series guys if i could lean in. what was the experience like for you despite the loss? >> it was a great night at royals stadium. the crowd was excited and anxious and supporting the team. we were very glad to be there. and glad to have a series in kansas city. >> did you see a lot of orange in there? >> a little bit. one of the interesting things i saw last night was a giants fan who went down behind the dugout and caught a ball at the end of the inning when they tossed it up. he had his glove. he obviously went down there to get it. he tossed it to a young royals fan. and so congratulations to great fans from san francisco. >> reporter: yeah very cool. and as a gift i brought my own

downtown area. the owner of city diner is sitting here with me right now. his name is is don bush. big time royals fan. what is the difference between the atmosphere from '85 and this year? >> we haven't been here for 29 years. we were in the '85 world series. it seemed like we were in the series or play offs almost every year so it was kind of common hat for us to have play off games. but after 29 years, the town is really excited about just super, super excited about having world series here in kansas city and in san francisco. >> reporter: you have to be a little bummed playing off the kansas city start about game one. >> bumgarner he is a heck of a pitcher. he can really throw that ball. i have to tip my hat off to him. he pitched an excellent gail. san francisco did an excellent

job on defense. the royals it just seemed like they were able to get to him in the first or second inning because they were making him work and they were hitting the ball even though they were grounder outs and fly balls. i kept hoping and thinking they would come back. but unfortunately they didn't. >> reporter: you have a good spot. i want to go in the kitchen and cook and have a bet with a one of the chefs. we also talk barbecue. last night we went around. you have to see a couple of the stories we put together. we are going to have a fun morning here at city diner in kansas city. a lot of people are talking about the cinderella team. it looks like cinderella had a bad night last night. >> what gracious classy fans. >> they have some good people. >> yes. thank you, mike for that. they are just excited to be

francisco saturday and sunday. happening now people in one san jose neighborhood they are being told don't drink or cook with the water at your houses because of e. coli contamination. janine de la vega is joining us life from san jose to tell us how many people are effected by this and what is being done. good morning janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. people who live in this neighborhood near piedmont road can use the water to shower but until san jose water gets the all clear from the state, they shouldn't be drinking the water. crews will be out here at 8:00 a.m. to try to flush the water main out. here's the area effected. it is in north san jose. close to the milpitas border. the water company handed out notices to 300 homes telling them the water may have been contaminated with the e. coli bacteria. they have been advised they

need to boil water. the problem was discovered when crews were replacing a pipeline last week and took samples in the area and found the contamination. after further testing, they determined the water is contaminated at only 50 homes on sydney drive and sydney court. >> they put the notice on the door early in the morning and i had already made coffee and things like that with the water. so i had no idea. >> e. coli is essentially a bacteria that is found in fecal matter. fit gets in the water supply and injectioned, it can cause diarrhea and vomiting. customers that exhibit this should seek medical attention. that is the recommendation we are making. >> reporter: san jose water says the ban to drink water is still in effect for all 300 homes and school only because

the for -- san jose water says the contamination like this is a rare occurrence and they will continue flushing the water main and taking samples. they said is they people were definitely taking advantage of that and picking up free water bottles. reporting live from san jose cd justice ktvu channel 2 news -- janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. in san rafael there is a similar contaminated water problem. students and teachers there first noticed the water just didn't look right during classes monday afternoon. now warning signs are posted across the campus telling students avoid drinking out of the fountains or washing their hands in the bathroom sinks. the school is hoping to have

welcome back. in election news this morning the alameda county registrar of voters is scrambling to fix vote by mail envelopes. alex savidge is in berkeley to show us the error and tell us what voters are saying about this mixup. >> reporter: social security

safe to say a -- it's safe to say a lot of voters didn't know about this problem. take a close look at this mail in ballot envelope. it says election day november 5th, 2014. the only problem is election day is the day before on november 4th. it's a small mistake but it's certainly one that could confuse a lot of voters. 27,000 vote by mail envelopes with the wrong date were sent to voters in berkeley in an effort to correct a problem the county registrar of voters is sending e-mails to all of those people to make sure they know the correct date for the election. election officials say they are are glad this error was caught early on it does give them time to straighten things out. this mistake of course could be problematic because in order for your ballot to count, it must be received by 8:00 p.m. on election day. and one berkeley voter we caught up with this morning that has a misprinted ballot at home told me election officials really need to pay close attention. >> just double check all of us are really interested in voting

>> yes, we do. good morning, everyone. let's go out. let's go out and take a look at a problem in gilroy. it's a palette fire burning ferguson and cruise road. this is visible from highway 101. more likely on 152 nearby as people are being diverted to that as an alternate route. it will be busier for you if you use 152. bay bridge toll plaza 20-25 minute delay getting into san francisco. and westbound 580 in livermore is getting filled up on the way to dublin. 680 is slow. out of pleasanton already. now let's go to steve. sal, if the cloud cover does not obscure it, there will be a partial solar eclipse tomorrow. yes partial. we do have a lot of cloud cover streaming in here. i mean it's high thin clouds but the clouds are thickening up. that is a plume of moisture that will leave some heavy rain up on the north coast.

source. talk about river of air. that is taking aim right at the pacific northwest. the rainfall will be really good up there. the line will dip to ukiah and santa rosa and i think put on the brakes and lift out of here. here's the timeline. watch how the clouds drape themselves over us. there will be a partly cloudy sky for us. and there it goes starting to lift up as we head toward friday. the low is developing off the coast. and finally swing in. that means it will be a windy and warm forecast i believe for game three. i would not be surprised to see mid 70s at 5:00. southeast wind at 20-25 miles an hour. partly cloudy. warm and breezy. mostly sunny. more clouds to the north. a chilly morning. 60s and 70s on your temps. the lows are pretty close to seasonal averages and so are the highs. it will be nice weather for game two. a lot of clouds and some rain to the north. windy and warm for us. cooler with rain early

welcome back. today is the first day on the job for president obama's new ebola czar ron klain. he will meet with the president today and leading the teams both here and in west africa. klain will lead the different government agencies dealing with this global crisis. also new this morning one of three americans who had been held by north korea arrived back home in ohio earlier this morning. 56-year-old jeffrey foul was greeted by his family after arriving on a u.s. military plane. he was arrested in may for leaving a bible in a nightclub. now it's not clear why the north korean government decided to release him at this point. two other americans are still being held in north korea. kenneth bay a christian missionary and matthew miller. he shredded his american passport when he arrived in the country and asked for asylum.

a big investor is showing interest in financing the $2 billion coliseum city project in oakland. floyd appeared with oakland mayor jean quan yesterday. the oakland city council voted to allow his san diego company the renaissance companies to give them three months to come to terms with the raiders on a deal for a new stadium and possibly with the oakland a's for a new ballpark on that coliseum site. coming up next on mornings on 2. the giants score a decisive victory game one of the world seize. we'll have a live report from kansas city. >> plus an e. coli scare that is effecting hundreds of homes in the bay area.
