now at noon, developing news out of canada, where two people are dead after a shooting in ottawa near the country's parliament. what we're learning about this dynamic unfolding situation. a large fire still smoldering in gilroy after massive flames damaged part of a barn and thousands of wooden pallets. outrage in a south bay neighbor over contaminated drinking water. what may have caused the problem and what the city is doing about it.

good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we begin with developing news in the canadian capital of ottawa. authorities say a soldier and a suspected gunman are dead after gunfire erupted this morning at a war memorial and the nearby parliament building. [ sound of gunfire ] >> pretty dramatic cell phone video there taken inside the parliament building just before 10:00 a.m. their time. ottawa hospital says it's received three patients. two were in stable condition. the third was the soldier who died. the gunshot sent lawmakers inside the parliament building and people outside scrambling for cover. >> i thought it was just fire crackers going off. so i look across the street, and there was a man with a

rifle shooting at a bunch of people. >> shots were also fired at a nearby shopping center. again, one suspected gunman is dead. they were searching for two others. no one is in custody. the prime minister is safe and had left parliament hill. also cnn is reporting within the last 20 minutes, the shooting has prompted u.s. officials to beef up security at arlington national cemetery, specifically at the tomb of the unknowns. we also learned the canadian embassy in washington, d.c. is in lockdown. both measures were taken out of an abundance of caution. an investigation is underway in milpitas after a body was found at a landfill. newschopper2 flew poeferrer the newbie landfill overnight. police are not saying much about the case except a body was found just before 4:30 yesterday afternoon. investigators are waiting for

the santa clara county coroner's report before releasing new information. happening now -- fire crews are still on the scene of a large fire at a ranch in gilroy to mop up hot spots. you can see the remnants of the fire from this live picture from newschopper2. quite a bit of smoke there. white smoke coming from that scene. this happened at ferguson road, damaging part of a barn and thousands of pallets. at one point, the fire got so high, it could be seen from highway 101 a mile to the west. brian flores explains the struggles firefighters faced in putting this out. >> reporter: this bright orange glow could be seen for miles early in the morning as several pallets, old cars, equipment and part of a barn went up in flames. >> when we arrived at scene, there were several thousand pallets on fire and the barn was -- the large barn behind mean was immediately threatened. >> reporter: the fire started just before 5:00 this morning on what is described as a pallet yard and ranch.

on the 2700 block of ferguson road in gill roye. several fire crews were called in from san jose, south santa clara, gilroy, morgan hill and even as far as hollister to battle the blaze. >> the cause is under investigation. we've got our fire personnel at scene right now. we've got a mix of agriculture and residential uses at this property so just because of the size of the fire, the investigation is will take quite some time. >> reporter: the flames reached 200 feet high according to firefighters. about 10,000 square feet burned. about 10 to 20 people who lived at a residential unit were vacketted. but all are doing okay. martha mcneil ones a nonprofit horse facility nearby and rushed over here concerned about her animals. >> everybody looks out for everybody. people heard there was a fire at cruz and ferguson, i got 25 phone calms saying i needed a trailer -- calls saying i needed to get the horses.

i didn't. no animals involved. >> reporter: several water tenders just like this one were called in from all over. they had to fill up in the town of gilroy and then go back to fight the fire. >> the biggest concern, we have no water. we had a tremendous amount of fire, the fire was 200, 300 feet in the air and one tank of water can't do it. our fire engines and our water trucks had to roll into gilroy, fill off their fire hydrants and return here to try to slow the fire spread. >> reporter: firefighters say it's part of battling fires in rural areas. initial estimates on the amount of damage caused is about $200,000. in gilroy, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. the centers for disease control and prepare vengs is enacting -- prevention is enacting stricter monitoring from ebola-stricken west african countries. the cdc announced everyone coming into the u.s. from

liberia, sierra leone and guinea must enter the u.s. through one of the five airports using extra screening through ebola. they will also be monitored for 21 days. they will be given a care kit that includes a thermometer and the description of the symptoms and what to do if any of them develop. ♪ >> in the air to center. it's gone. >> giants' fans are hoping for a repeat over the royalsance the teams get ready -- royals as the teams get ready for game 2. we have team coverage with alex savidge in san francisco where the orange is the color of the day. but we begin in kansas city where mike mibach is. he talked to royals' fans. i bet they are hoping for a different outcome tonight. mike? >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. you could not ask for a better start to this trip.

giants up 1-0 in the fall classic. a lot of giant fans made the trip. behind mean, you can see the royal pride in this city, the water fountain there flushed with blue and a lot of royal fans were out this morning. i gotta say they weren't too talkative as they got a lot of thinking to do as they now prepare for game 2 of the world series. the morning after, a time to reflect for royal fans flipping through headlines, telling part of the story. >> depressing for us. i think the whole city felt it. >> reporter: for royal fans it was the chatter this morning. how do you feel? >> not too bad they lost but we still got tonight and -- >> very young team but they are awesome. i love to come down and watch them and support them. it's just sad about last night. >> it's a little slow today because of the loss last night.

orange is the color of the day as fans get ready to cheer on their team. alex savidge is live at a bar with more. >> reporter: something tells me folks will want to get here early. this place will be packed with people. we're at the double play bar. you can see giants' fans. they are already here enjoying orange sodas. i would assume that's what they are. the bartender said he will bearablely be able to move once the game gets started. a giants' third trip to the world series in five seasons means big business for bars and restaurants across the bay area. any place where the game was on last night was filled with fans. tonight, it will be the same story. a lot of ork and black. people showing their giants' pride confident this team will bring home another title. >> i think those guys just got

darren vann stood stone-faced during the hearing and refused to answer questions from the judge. she warned him that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars unless he cooperates. vann's public defender even encouraged him to speak but he couldn't. >> the judge asked him to identify himself. he refused. three times he asked him and then he was held in contempt. >> vann was arrested over the weekend for the killing of a 19- year-old woman. he then allegedly confessed to other killings and led police to the bodies of six women inside abandoned homes in gary, indiana. right now, a memorial ceremony is being held at sonoma state university to remember 13-year-old andy lopez. he was shot and killed one year ago. demonstrations are planned in santa rosa, san francisco, oakland, and berkeley. last year, sonoma county sheriff's deputy erick gelhaus shot and killed the teenager after mistaking the boy's pellet gun for a real assault

rifle. on monday, a county-appointed task force criticized the sheriff's department decision to return deputy gel haas to street duty. some people who live in one san jose neighborhood are outraged because the water is contaminated with e. coli in their neighborhood and there was a delay in notifying residents. ktvu's janine de la vega spoke with them and the water company about the problem. >> we have to boil the water and then put a few drops of clorox in the water to make sure all of the contaminants are out of the water. >> reporter: jerry has been living with contaminated water for the past five days, possibly more. his home on sidney court near the milpitas border is one of 300 homes that received a notice on the door from the san jose water company saying there was possible e. coli bacteria in the water. he received it at 11:00 last friday. >> i woke people up and let them know they were hanging them on the door.

people don't check their doors when they get up in the morning. people were gonna drink contaminated water. >> reporter: san jose water says this all stems from a pipeline being replaced last week. >> an animal may have gotten into the pipe and maybe didn't get out or did something in there that resulted in the positive bacteria results. >> reporter: before the water was released from that pipeline into the system, it was tested and came back negative for contaminants. but on wednesday, the water was tested again, this time samples from sidney drive and court tested positive. a third test was conducted and again came back positive on the same street last thursday. >> for a period of 48 to 72 hours, people were delivered the bacteria-impacted water. >> reporter: as a precaution, milpitas christian school shut off the water. the utility says there's been three reports of people getting sick with diarrhea and vomiting. >> my wife had headaches.

we've been to the hospital. i was sick that friday. didn't know why. i left work. my daughter was sick. she had to leave church on sunday with headache, nausea. >> reporter: crews are working to flush out the water main and will keep to test the water. they are apologizing and say they will re-evaluate their policy and will need two more positive test results. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. there's a investigation investigation involving sergio romo. according to reports, police received a report that two men were trying to push a woman into an suv at taylor and post streets. the woman was identified as romo's girlfriend. when police started to sort out what happened, romo reportedly exchanged heat the words with the officers. the officers concluded no crime has been committed. the case has been sent to special investigations out of an abundance of caution.

the alameda county registrar of voters it is scrambling to fix a mistake printed on thousands of ballots sent to voters in berkeley. the ballots say election day is november 5th instead of november 4th. election officials are sending letters and e-mails to all of those people making sure they have the correct date for the election. >> should be computerized. i'm surprised there is that kind of an error. in other counties there's issues where they've gotten things incorrect in the ballot itself. that's even more serious. >> 27,000 ballots were sent out with the wrong date. the registrar of voters says the printing company they used has taken responsibility for the error. the golden gate bridge district is scheduled to meet friday to take up a controversial preppal to charge -- proposal to charge people who walk or bike across the world-famous span. right now, drivers pay up to $7 for a trip across the golden gate and people who walk or bike across it do it for free. but there is a new proposal to

change that in light of the district's budget problem. >> the district has a $33 million, five-year deficit they are trying to address. >> charging to walk or bicycle across the bridge creates a distance center for walking and biking. >> still not clear how much the toll would be if the board approves the plan. a very chilly morning. a lot of people riding in saying oh, my gosh, it's cold out there. that's for us. if are visiting -- if you are visiting, it may not feel that cold. there is a lot of upper 60s to near spent. cloud cover continues to scream in. it will be picking up in intensity over the next 24 hours. partly cloudy skies to the north about santa rosa north. south of that it's mostly sunny. some areas are sunny. that will be the dividing line. a lot of moisture streaming across the specific. there are hints and possibilities of some very good rainfall from about cape

santa rosa and it's sunny in san jose. that will be starting tomorrow. i know we're gearing up for game 3 at at&t park on friday at 5:07. the source of moisture that lum down. that's -- that's the rain line. it stays there, stays there. then it starts to lift out. late thursday into friday. why? because the system will be developing offshore and it will take that moisture and take it right out of the picture which in turn means we'll have a breeze and very warm friday. even mid 70s. i'm going for game 3. warm and breezy. partly cloudy, southeast breeze 20 miles an hour. a couple of days to iron out the forecast. more clouds to the north. 60s and 70s. kind of a mild day even though the angle of the sun is low. the days are getting shorter. another beautiful night in kansas city. in fact, first pitch 70 degrees. it looks good. no issues with weather there. we will have increasing clouds so main rain to the north on thursday. then friday, windy and warm, it

u.s. stocks turned lower in afternoon trading with major indexes erasing earlier gains as the shooting at the canadian parliament unnerved investors. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is currently down 104. the nasdaq is down 21. and the s&p which had its biggest gain of the year yesterday is down 7. there's a new warning for users of apple's icloud online storage service. apple has posted a notice telling users not to enter their personal information if they have received what's called a certificate warning. the alert comes after users in china reported being diverted to other websites when they tried to log onto the icloud. those sites asked for users names and passwords. an. says there have been organized -- apple said there have been organized attacks but they've been unsuccessful. we're still believing as the giants head towards game 2. the first pitch happens after
