walk by the camera. both sal castanedo and tara will join us live from the park with how the city is preparing for the first 2014 world series game here in san francisco. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> loving the orange. >> looking sharp. i'm dave clark. steve is off today, rosemary is right there and i'm loving the forecast for today. >> yeah. take a look at this beautiful shot. >> that's stunning. >> that's a glow with orange this morning as we await the official sunrise. 20 ta 25 minutes or so to go. a little bit of patchy fog reported at times this morning in and over parts of the north bay as well as along the coastline. please be careful as you get outdoors. not everybody enjoying the very clear sky. 49 degrees right now in fairfield. 46 in napa. so it is a chilly start for some. 52 in antioch. a lot of 50s around the bay area. 56 in oakland. 59 redwood city. we're reading that san francisco is checking in the

upper 50s. 50 degrees in santa rosa. 51 in san jose. the second half of the day, mostly sunny skies. temperatures will be slightly warm for some over parts of the north bay. partly cloudy skies yesterday. 74 in napa as well as santa rosa. mid- to upper 70s for the inner east bay. nearing 80 degrees for some. a beautiful day in store. meanwhile, at at&t park, for the afternoon, it's gonna be a gorgeous day for a ballgame. 72 degrees. partly cloudy skies. we do have a southerly breeze that will be picking up in the afternoon. it could be breezy later today at at&t park. these winds are ahead of a system that will bring us rain in time for the first part of your weekend. i will track that for you coming up. first let's go to sal. that place will be rocking later. how are you? >> reporter: doing well, rosemary. did thank you very much. it's mild.

it's breezy and chilly but it's not san francisco cold. let's put it that way. we're still hook -- looking pretty good. some of the national media has shown up of this place is beginning to wake up as we get ready for game 3. 5:07 first pitch in san francisco. let's go out to the south bay and look at your silicon valley commute. northbound 280 looks pretty slow as you come up to highway 17. it's getting slow on 101 and 85 as well. you don't have to worry about it so much. it will be a little bit slow until you past highway 17. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. we have kind of a big backup there getting into san francisco. today, the bay bridge will be in play, a lot of people coming to at&t park. we'll have the backup this afternoon trying to get into the game. of course, the people coming to the city for other reasons. keep that in mind. i want to mention that in contra costa county. 680 southbound and 24 westbound are a little bit slow. we had a crash in central la

cleaning furiously actually got sprayed with water as i was walking through the tunnel. they are just hosing everything down. the dugout has been scrubbed clean. in ten hours, we'll see the first pitch. giants landed at sfo yesterday and headed to at&t park for batting practice and fielding drills. a starting game three this evening will be tim hudson. the 39-year-old is the oldest player on the roster. he leads with 214 career wins. he's been on teams that made the playoffs seven different times in his 16-year career. but he's never been to the world series. >> here i am. things are -- it's funny how things fall into place. this is -- this is exactly how i envisioned it. it's kind of crazy to see it happen throughout the season. i feel very, very lucky. >> reporter: giants' fans will be pulling for hudson. if you are hoping to go to the

game and don't have tickets it will cost you. stubhub has tickets for standing-room only for $500. saturday it shoots up. two seats on the field level are selling for $25,000. so be ready to shell out the dough if you haven't gotten your ticket just yet. we're live at at&t park, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news, go giants! >> i know. i like that towel. looking forward to hear what larry bear has to say. 7:07. game 3 of the world series still ten hours away. but a lot, as you know, is happening around at&t park. security very tight. in fact, every truck delivering supplies to the ballpark has to go through special security screenings. everything is x-rayed. you saw the bomb-sniffing dogs. they will be checking for explosives. >> there's been increased scanning and security precautions during the course of the year. when we get into the

postseason, it does get ratcheted up like everything else. >> that's for sure. the company that handles concessions at at&t park says they are not harmerred by all of the tough security. the end vendor has shifted enough food, beverages and souvenirs for 44,000 people to last for three straight days. that's the entire population of dublin. they are ready. well, our live coverage from at&t park starts at 2:00 this afternoon. first pitch just after 5:00. and then after the game, our live postgame show on ktvu and, of course, the 10:00 news. all right here on channel 2. 7:08. new this morning, a woman was rushed to the hospital a few hours ago after being burned during a large house fire in milpitas. alex savidge is live with more on how her family manage to escape the flames. >> reporter: good morning. this family is luck yesthy made it out alive according to fire crews.

when crews first got here, the place was on fire. the first floor was filling up with flames. two family members were children and firefighters moved and helped two people jumped down and used a ladder to get the other two people down. a grandmother suffered burns to her arms during the fire and had to be taken to the hospital. she's in stable opinion, we were told. you can see the extensive damage done to the inside of this home on farm crest street. the fire broke out about 3:00 this morning. it was concentrated near the kitchen, although firefighters say they are not sure how it may have started. >> you know, we don't know for sure the cause of the origin. but when we enter the structure, it's adjacent to the foyer and kitchen, there was significant fire. that's what we saw. >> reporter: the fire had grown so large, that crews called in additional help from the san jose fire department. extra crews came in from that

neighboring city. at the same time, thatr were about 20 people who live in the neighboring homes. they all had to be evacuated this morning because there was concern about the fire spreading to those neighboring structures. after the fire was knocked down, crews went through and that's when they found the family dog dead inside, killed in this fire. it's unclear if there were working smoke detectors in the house. but a battalion chief told me given the size of the fire, it's a good thing the family woke up when they did because someone could have been seriously hurt out here. >> the woman burned in this early-morning fire now in stable condition. the fire does not appear to be suspicious, although investigators will take a closer look. we're live in milpitas. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, alex. 7:10. detectives in fremont are asking for the public's help in finding a robber who snatched a cold chain from an elderly woman. here is a picture of the suspected robber. police identify him as 20 years old. investigators say he and

another person robbed the woman in the ardenwood neighborhood on october 5th. when the victim's husband tried to chase them found, the man fired three warning shots in the air. police say the man may be staying in oakland or hayward and should be considered armed and dangerous. the union representing clerks for san francisco's superior court, they are accused of breaking state law by staging a one-day strike last week. take a look at the video of the picket line outside of the courthouse at san francisco's civic center plaza on october 14th. now, these court clerks walked off the job after the courts refused their demand for a pay raise. a state labor board is now investigating whether that walk out which disrupted court operations violated a no-strike provision in the union's contract. orkin has released a list of the cities with the most rats in america. the san francisco/san jose area holds the number five spot. the pest control company says

people in pennsylvania are trying to help a man who has the misfortune of looking like an accused cop killer. on the right side of your screen is suspect eric frein. on the left is james tully. now, tully walks two hours to work every day and because of his resemblance he's been stopped by police many times. one time, in fact, officers drew their guns and pinned tully to the ground. there's now an online drive to raise money to buy tully a car so he won't get accosted

flight at oakland, it's been okay. contra costa county has been slow traffic. 24 had an earlier crash, central la fayette. 680 is going to be moderate as you drive from conrecord to walnut creek. highway 4 is slow. it looks like a normal friday morning commute as you drive around the bay area. you will see a lot of activity in and around at&t park. public transportation is what i suggest for you getting down here if you are coming to the game or b.a.r.t. it's a perfect way to get here. now today's forecast for the game and other things, let's go to rosemary. >> we have great weather in store for game 3 of the world series this afternoon. maybe a little breezy. it has to do with the system i've been tracking for this morning. as we get into the second half of the day, the winds will be increasing. i will show you why. giving you a live look there at -- we've got the golden gate bridge. we've got mostly clear skies. a little bit of patchy fog along the coastline just inside

together." the series is tied at one game apiece. the giants host the kansis city royals in game 3 this evening. let's talk about weather and traffic. rosemary is here. how did you get the orange sky? that's spectacular. >> that is spectacular. the sun is up. take a look at this beautiful ball knowing with orange. we have plenty of sunshine in store foretoday. enjoy it because we have changes coming as early as tomorrow. let's take a look at the satellite. we're waking up with patchy fog along the coast this morning. half moon bay reporting visibility down to about a quarter mile. so take it a little easy. you may find some of this especially in and around santa rosa as well. along the valley floor. when it's very patchy in

by live -- actually, we're going back to tori. >> thanks, rosemary. sal is at at&t park for tonight's world series game. we'll go back to him in a few minutes. a viewer sent us a photo of a truck that caught on fire. it was towing a horse trailer. this was on westbound highway 24 in la fayette. the vehicle is on the shoulder waiting to be moved. there are no reports of injuries to the animals. that's good news. but traffic is a little slow. again this is westbound 24, the commute direction which is usually slow. here is a map. we want to show you now of -- this is of walnut creek. looks like there is an accident on 680 heading south towards walnut creek. again, a pretty heavy commute direction. now over to the bay bridge toll plaza, a live look of driving into san francisco. quite a backup, especially in the cash lanes but even fastrack lanes in the middle pretty sloesm the carpool lanes on the far right side moving well. 7:32.

mccovey cove. >> reporter: you just heard from a giants' superfan who is known as mccovey dave. he's one of the kayakers who hangs outside of at&t park. just to give you an idea of what it will look like tonight, here's video of the past where tons of giants' fans are packed together. it's a lot of fun. all of these guys are keenly listening to the radio and trying to figure out where the ball already hit so they know where to paddle. dave has caught 17 giants' home run balls and is hoping to catch one tonight if it happens. >> i may get hit by a few paddles. i've broken a rib. i knocked out a -- i want to get that ball. to me, a home run ball like these, these are priceless moments of baseball. >> reporter: he says there's only been one world series giants' ball hit into mccovey

afternoon. the first pitch, just after 5:00. and then after the game, don't forget our live postgame show. and of course, the 10:00 news, all here on ktvu channel 2. police in the east bay seven people were hurt when a car crashed into a popular mexican restaurant in dublin. it happened yesterday evening at the restaurant on village parkway. the 56-year-old driver told police she accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. you can her black convertible inside the damaged restaurant. the driver along with six customers were taken to the hospital. two customers suffered serious injuries. as nurses and healthcare leaders testify at a hearing on ebola, others are working to develop a vaccine. this as a new york doctor tests positive for the virus yesterday. katie utehs is live with details of the case and when we

could see a vaccine which could make a huge difference. >> the world health organization announced it's speeding up development of the experimental vac seeps. according to reuters, the vaccines could be ready as early as 2015. the vaccine cannot come soon enough for ebola-stricken wek -- west africa, which is where the 33-year-old doctor likely contracted the virus. cak spencer returned to the u.s. a week ago. since then he took his temperature twice a day, yesterday when doctor spencer registered a fever of more than 100 degrees, he called for help. >> it was handled exactly right. a team went out with protective gear. he was picked up and brought to a pre-prepared isolation unit. it couldn't have went better. >> before developing symptoms, spencer traveled across new york city, even taking the

subway. but health officials are urging people not to panic. the virus is not easily transpitted only through direct contract through bodily fluids once the person becomes sympathetic. in my next report, the notice sent out here in the bay area about ebola preparedness. katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. microsoft co-founder paul allen will donate $100 million to fight against ebola making him one of the largest individual donors so far. allen says he feels called to help tackle the ebola crisis and just had a feeling when news broke of the disease this summer, it was gonna become a serious problem. part of his donation will go to the university of massachusetts's medical school to pay for training, medical records and lab equipment in liberia where many district hospitals are closed. the goal is to reopen them. we're still hours away from game 3 in the world series.

on 2." 7:41. new york police are investigating whether an attack on four police officers was terrorism. police say a man with a hatchet -- look at this. he came behind a bus stop while officers were posing for a picture and hit one of the officers in the arm and another one on the head. now, police say as he was raising the hatchet to hit them again, two other officers fired several shots and killed the man both of the injured officers were rushed to hospital. >> we'll be standing with the parents and praying with them. >> authorities believe the suspect may have been stalking the police officers before he attacked. officers are now on very heightened alert. 7:42. the supreme court in utah has lifted a stay on gay adoption cases. that means same-sex couples have can now legally adopt children. it was just a few weeks ago

other workers we understand are pickets in san leandro as well. now, we spoke to a representative from the teamsters a couple of hours ago as well. he says his union did not know about this ahead of time but got a phone message alerting them of the strike by the sorters. the teamsters which represents the drivers, the garbage truck drivers says workers have the right to strike but that drivers and customers have rights as well. >> we feel there is an obligation to the citizens of oakland to pick up the garbage and that there's a responsibility to meet with all of the appropriate officials in oakland to let them know what's going on. >> now, he says he's out there to make sure that the garbage truck driver can get in and out of work safely. i just got 0 off the phone with a spokesperson for waste management. he says in fact all of the trucks were able to get in and out at the regular pickup times, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 and that none of the routes are

ground floor was filling with flames. they found four people trapped off the garage and firefighters had to help two of those people jump town off the roof. the other two people were brought down pie a ladder -- by a ladder. you see the damage done to the inside of the home after this fire broke out around 3:00 this morning. it is unclear, according to firefighters, whether the smoke detectors were all working properly but battalion chief told me given how large this fire had grown it was a good thing that everyone woke up when they did. >> they are very, very lucky. they are very lucky. they are probably in the one last occupiable space the home had. >> this fire was so large, extra crews had to be called in from the san jose fire department to help out here. there were also about 20 people

sears is struggling and they have plans of stepping up store closures. earlier, they closed 96 of its stores within a six-month period. sears says next month when the quarterly earnings come out, they will have a better idea how many stores will close. a breast cancer survivor from san jose will be fulfilling a lifelong dream by anding iter had first world series game and watching the giants play tonight. eileen lowe was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer eight months ago. since then, she's underdone a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. her last radiation session was on wednesday. as a reward for staying strong during her fight, her niece bought her a hair of tickets to tonight's game and now lowe's focus is on her team. >> come through in the end. i have no doubt they are gonna win this one. it will be all-around

this is where i sit. i've seen a lot of good things over the years in this seat. i probably can't be too impartial about the giants because i see it in one prk way. if you are come out to at&t park, you can see everyone is getting ready, mlb, and fox getting ready to do their broadcast here. if you are up ing can to the said -- if you are coming out to the stadium, i would say take public transportation. i've done it myself. muni has the n judah running to at&t park. it's been an effortless way to get here without having to worry about expensive parking. let's go out to the pictures. bay bridge toll plaza, you can see it's backed up. it's about a 25-minute drive into san francisco. there are no major -- we're doing the eastshore freeway first. we'll get to the toll plaza in

a second. now we're at the toll plaza thank you and traffic is going to be doing okay here. remember, it's going to be a little bit crowded getting into san francisco using this very same bridge later on today. if you are driving into livermore valley, the traffic is going to be busy on 580 as you drive through. still busy coming up to the dublin interchange. 680 is also slow out of pleasanton. when you get to fremont there's been trouble on auto mall parkway. the signals are not working between 880 and 680. it's making traffic a mess in the area. in the south bay we've had slow traffic especially on northbound 101 as you come up to the sunnyvale area because of an earlier problem. 280 and 85 are not that bad. it's just a little bit better than it normally is. we'll go to ktvu's janine de la vega because janine is outside of at&t park and she's found some fans. janine. >> reporter: from where i'm at

at mccovey cove. beautiful weather. and a beautifulview of the park. it's kind of the calm before the storm. you know, later today, it's just gonna be pumping with excitement, not just in the park but out here in the water. and one of the people in the water is going to be a giants' superfan who is known as mccovey dave. he's one of the kayakers who hangs out in mccove scrib cove right outside at&t park. just to give you an idea of what it will loan like here is video of the past where tons of giants' fans are packed together out there. it's a lot of fun. all of these guys have been keenly listening to the radio. they are trying to figure out where the ball will be hit. mccovey dave has caught 17 giants' home run splash balls. he's hoping to catch one tonight if it happens. >> i 100% would jump out of my kayak. i want the ball so badly. i'm like a trained dog getting

festtiveties. we're following several new developments about eastern cases in the u.s -- ebola cases in the u.s. a new case is confirmed in new york city. the first dallas nurse who contracted ebola is now in the clear. katie utehs has more. >> finally some good news on the ebola front. several developments within the last hour. the national institutes of health just announced that nurse fee na pham is virus free -- nina familiar pham is virus free. there is a news briefing where we should learn more about her treatment. 33-year-old dr. craig spencer is being the treated in new york after he tested positive for the virus yesterday. spencer worked with doctors in west africa until returning to the u.s. last week. once he developed a fever, he called for help and was quickly

8:39. happening today, the golden gate bridge district meets to take up a controversial proposal to possibly charge people who walk or bike across the bay area's world famous span. drivers pay up to $7 for a trip to drive across the golden gate bridge but the many people who walk or bike across the bridge every day do it for free. but the bridge district's budget problems could change that. it's not clear, though, how much the toll would be for walkers or bikers if the board approve, the plan. not sure how they would enforce that. >> it sounds like it may be a done deal. >> we'll see. 8:40. there's new information about a scandal involving a chp officer from the east bay and some explicit cell phone photos of the big decision about this expected next week. a dramatic rescue in the south bay. how fire crews rescued four people from a burning roof.

welcome back. let's bring you up to date on some of the top stories -- four people in milpitas were rescued early this morning from a burning house. when firefighters got there, four people were up on the roof two of them actually jumped off to safety. the other two had to be rescued. a woman was taken to the hospital with burn injuries. we still have no word on how that fire started. police say seven people were hurt. a car smashed into a popular mexican restaurant in dublin. it happened last night at the restaurant on villas parkway. the 56-year-old driver told police she accidentally stepped on the gas, not the brakes.

who are on strike are recycling sorters and members of one union that's been in ongoing negotiations. all of the other unions have contract with waste management. we talked to a spokesperson for the teamsters union which represents the drivers. he says they are crossing the picture line because they don't agree with how it's being handled. >> if they are gonna strike there is a process to go through. they have not done that. they've not talked to us or anything. >> they gave you a phone call? >> gave us a phone call and they are here. we don't think that's fair to the citizens of oakland. >> waste management said oakland police out there this morning to make sure the business was all handled safely. you can see some of the patrol cars in the shots. he said the company has been in negotiation with the union on the picket line. but again, you see the trash uk
