they are known for their fountains. check out this fountain in the plau day area here -- plaza area. the giants are flying out of san francisco today. but they will be staying at this hotel here in kansas city, the intercontinental where they will be arriving sometime later today. talk about the pitching performance by madison bumgarner. other than a no-hitter, you couldn't have asked for a better performance. complete game shutout. eight strikeouts, only giving up four runs. if you watched the game, you can tell he wanted the ball. he wanted to pitch. the series turns to kansas city for game 2. folks here in kansas city even say they were hoping for the team to do better, though, in san francisco. >> of cows, we would have loved so see them win. but they are up coming back here for game 6 and hopefully game 7. i think last night's loss was a little more

disappointing because madison bumgarner is pretty amazing. >> reporter: in terms of what's happening today, it will be a travel day and practice from the giants. from what we understand, the royals will take their field around 4:00 p.m. local time at kauffman stadium. the giants will take the field for practice around 6:00 p.m. local time again at kauffman stadium. take it back out here line -- live, there are some ticketing available. i checked stubhub. they run anywhere from $315 for standing-room only. up to $9,000 for the diamond level level. finally, i know that we're here in kansas city. it's known for barbecue. i keep on getting requests for barbecue sauce. don't worry, i will be bring plenty back home. the other story is the weather. i can't believe how nice the weather is. steve talked about it. a little bit windy this morning. but temperatures right now, in the 70s right now. it's really nice out here

oakland where she's joined by officer white with new information. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. police would really like anyone in near the shooting when it happened to please contact them. they are looking for surveillance video. if you happen to have surveillance cameras that caught some images perhaps of the cars at the scene, they are very interested in talking to you. joining me is officer from the police department. what are you hoping to get from the surveillance? >> we're reaching out to the community the we're asking anyone who may have been in the area of 98th avenue between the 400 and 600 block, a little after 12:30, if they witnessed the incident that occurred. we believe this is a road rage. we have a husband and rife who just returned from the store. they bought groceries for their children, the youngest being a year and a half. something happened, something transpired between the suspect

vehicle and she was shot and killed. >> and her husband tried to resuscitate her? >> yes. the home was only a couple of blocks away. administered cpr. we also did cpr but unfortunately, that was not -- we were not able to save her life. we're asking anyone who may have information. we're looking for what the suspect vehicle looks like, what the suspect looks like. we would like to share with you the victim vehicle. typically we don't do issue a picture -- the victim vehicle is described as a 1998 black toyota camry. now, the reason we're putting this out is we're hoping that somebody will remember seeing the car, seeing the victim and saying i remember this. i remember seeing a suspect

welcome back. a different story. a man who robbed a gas station in eureka, he's in jail now after he went back to the scene of the crime to give the money back and apologize. police say kyle warren abbott junior stole money and a couple of beers early yesterday morning but a couple of hours later, employees called the police. they say the man came back to give the money back. he apologized saying he wanted to try to turn his life around and do the right thing. well, the police were impressed

but he was still booked on charges of armed robbery and violating probation. 7:14. new this morning, 130 recycling workers with waste management have walked off the job in the east bay. [chanting] >> this is a look at the strike line early this morning outside waste management's facility on davis street in san leandro. workers are also picketing outside the company's headquarters in oakland. union official says the pickets is in response to an incident last week where they claim a manager retaliated against union members. >> we filed charges with -- on the national labor relations board, and we're hoping the company will sit down and finish negotiations and that they will put everybody back to work. >> waste management says service is not affected and recycling will be processed at other facilities later today.

7:15. happening today bawrd riders who use the concord station, you will have to start paying to park in the garage. the new fee for parking at the station, $1 a day. that's the lowest b.a.r.t. parking fee in the system. a lot of riders don't like that fee but others say they knew that free parking, it wouldn't last forever. >> i can understand that it might be a struggle for some people that typically park their cars at the garage. but in return, i believe that b.a.r.t.'s responsible for kind of showing us how the money is being used. >> now, b.a.r.t. says some of the money will help pay for improvements that include adding more bike parking. concord is one of the last four stations to start charging for parking. next month, the north concord, hayward and oakland coliseum stations will start to charge $1 a day to park. 7:16. san mateo county could soon join other bay area counties in using color-coded signs to display information about

restaurants food safety inspections green placards mean a restaurant passed. a yellow sign will mean a restaurant patted with conditions. a red means a restaurant has been closed for health code violations. several bay area counties, including marin, alameda, contra costa and santa clara also use color-coded placards. and ex-booblle engineer is teaming up with an ex-stanford professor to clear up traffic jams. the two men say they are gonna tackle the problem with lessons learned keeping the internet running. the idea is to watch realtime traffic so changes can be made on the fly when traffic problems come in. they say the internet and street traffic share a common problem. too many people trying to go to the same place all at once. as i mentioned earlier, great

shores hotel. janine de la vega joining us live now to tell us what the employees and guests at the sofitel hotel are saying about what happened out there. >> reporter: goorl, dave -- good morning, dave. we're here at the sofitel, part of a luxury chain. guests say they've always had a good experience. mackment is working close with officials to understand the cause of this. more than a dozen people were reportedly sick after seating something at the hotel. 12 people, including six takers had document taken to the hospital. the manager confirmed all of them were guests who were attending a convention. most of the patients were treated for dehydration and have been released from the hospital. >> i wouldn't expect this. i wouldn't expect this. it's obviously an upscale

7:43. new this morning, reports that a nurse who had been under mandatory quarantine in new jersey after she returned from working with ebola patients in west africa is now being allowed to leave. nurse kac i hikox was the first nurse forced into a mandatory quarantine in new jersey. on friday, new jersey and new york announced mandatory 21-day hospital quarantines for healthcare workers returning from west africa. she flew into newark airport

after working with especially patients in sierra leone. andrew cuomo later loosened restrictions in the state saying healthcare workers can be monitored from home instead of a hospital if they have no symptoms. but initially, chris christie said he was sticking with the quarantine. she was placed in isolation in a tent next to the hospital. she called this inhuman and threatened to sue. she did not have a did and twice tested negative for ebola. we're hearing because she's symptom free, she's now being allowed to return to her home in maine. there are reports this morning that a 5-year-old boy is under observation at a new york city hospital after coming down with 03-degree fever -- 103-degree fever. he returned from west africa with his family on saturday. happening today, a trial that could determine the future of city college of san francisco. ktvu's pam cook is in the studio with more on what's at take and the fight to save the

college. >> good morning. what's at stake is possibly losing a community college and the san francisco city attorney says this has basically been a vendetta against city college. now, san francisco city attorney dennis herrera filed a lawsuit against the crediting commission for the college. that's the commission that's threatened to revoke the commission. herrera's lawsuit accuses the commission of treating city college unfairly in the review process. he says the commission unfairly targeted city college in a discrepancy over the role of community colleges. the commission argued that community koergs should foe -- colleges should focus on getting people into a four-year university. but students, half and her re da argues it serves as an important role getting people certificates within two years and getting a job. the trial starts at 10:00 a.m. at the superior court house on

an investigation into a massive fire in southern california that injured eight firefighters. this happened saturday night at a storage building in venice. officials call the building a death trap pause it was full of combustibles and had poor ventilation. it took hundred of firefighters nearly 14 hours to put out the flames. authorities say none of the injuries are life-threatening. the lava flow from hawaii's volcano is now threatening holes-- homes. it continues to ooz across the main road. people could be forced to evacuate before the end of the week and most say they are ready to go.

negotiations and that they will put everybody back to work. >> waste management says service is not affected and recycling will be processed at other facilities later today. happening today, a federal judge in sacramento is scheduled to hear a challenge to u.s. policy on marijuana. the san francisco chronicle reports the case involves seven men accused of growing marijuana on national forest land in trinity and tehama counties. legal experts say the case could be one of the first to challenge the dea classifications of marijuana as a schedule 1 drug. that classification means the drug is considered dangerous, even when prescribed by a doctor and has no accepted medical use. medical marijuana is legal in california and 20 other states. recreational marijuana use is legal in colorado and washington state. also happening today, b.a.r.t. riders who use the concord station will have to start paying to park in the garage.

i want to show you some video of the royals. there they are arriving earlier this morning in kansas city. the royals are scheduled to practice about 2:00 this afternoon hour time. now, ktvu's brian flores is also in kansas city this morning. brian talked to some of the royals' fans, they are disappointed after those last two games in san francisco. >> of course we would have loved to have seen them win but we are glad they are coming back here hopefully for game 6 and 7. i think saturday night 'loss was more disappointing than last night because bumgarner is pretty amazing. >> yeah, he is. by the way, the giants are scheduled to leave at&t park at 11:00 this morning. they are due to catch a noontime flight from sfo to kansas city. well, the giants and the royles are all competing -- royals are all competing for that piece of hardware, officially called the

the cause. redwood city firefighters were called to the scofffity which is -- sofitel, just before noon yesterday more than 12 people had to bic tannen hot after getting sick from eating at the hotel. all were guests attending a convention. most were treated for dehydration and have been he released from the hospital. the health department said they determined this was caused by a foodborne illness but the source has not been determined. guests are taking it with tried. >> i am not particularly concerned. it's very rare to eat in hotels. i do eat breakfast. i'm still going to do that when i'm done with my run. that's not going to change. >> reporter: this isn't the first scare, health care at the hotel the 62 people were sickened with norovirus after attending a dinner there in

2008. the environmental health division of the county health department is investigating so we're waiting to hear back what those results are going to be. reporting live from redwood city, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:39. about 70 vehicles damaged or destroyed in a big fire at a motorcycle kielership in san jose. it started about 5:00 yesterday afternoon at gp sports on camden avenue. the dealership sells motorcycle, all terrain vehicles and boats. firefighters were able to save almost a dozen vehicles. the cause of the fire still under investigation. contaminated water has forced some firefighters in eastern contra costa county to move to a temporary firehouse. health agencies fowp a high level of possibly dangerous bacteria in the water at their fire station near oakland. so the firefighters have moved

130 recycling workers for waste management walked off the job in the east bay. they are picketting outside of the saleandro office and its headquarters in oakland. waste management says service is not affected. a reward up to $20,000 offered in a road rage shooting in oakland that killed a mother of four. it happened yesterday afternoon on 9leth avenue. police say they don't yet have a precipitation description of the shooter or his vehicle. a sad development in a deadly school shooting in washington state. authorities say 14-year-old gia soriano died last night after being shot friday night at a high school in marysville. she was one of four teenagers who were critically injured in the shooting that also claimed the lives of another teenaged girl and the shooter. hospital officials read a statement from soriano's family. >> gia is our beautiful daughter and word cannot

rallying outside. this comes before a very important and emotional trial set to ged underway in the next hour. the trial did almost the status or accreditation of the school. we poke to some of the people at the rally who not only have the most to lose but are worried about how this could affect the hole community. >> this is a vital means for,'s future -- for everyone's future. >> they want to turn us into a stem school in order to dilute the workplace for those people with those degrees and deny the rest of the community the cans for an education -- chance for an education. >> the fight is over that accreditation. san francisco city attorney, dennis herrera filed a lawsuit for community and june yore colleges. that's the commission that has threat ped to revoke city

college's accreditation which they have been losing studenting there in enrollment. herrera's lawsuit accuse us the commission of treating city college unfairly in its review process. he says that the commission unfairly targeted city college in a discrepancy over the role of community colleges. the commission argues the community colleges should focus on getting people into a four- year university. but students staff and herrera argue that it serves and important po role of getting people who can't or don't want to go to a four inform year certificate deserts if two years that get them a job. in the trial that begins today, it's expected to go until friday. the judge will be deciding whether or not the actions of this accrediting commission was or was not fair. we'll stay on top of this and have more tonight on the news. back to the studio. >> all right. this is a big deal. thank you. another big deal is traffic, of course. a lot of people trying to get to work today.
