please help us she said. they are desperate for justice after the mother was killed sunday afternoon. they were driving back from the store. police won't explain what happened but some sort of confrontation occurred. someone in another car pulled up along side and fired multiple rounds into the car. perla avina was struck and killed. >> this was such a senseless act. you know? this is a beautiful young woman that had four young children and there was no reason for it. >> reporter: perla avina's work family was in mourning too. she started working in administration at this clinic 8 years ago. >> shining spirit. shy was always positive. -- shining spirit. always positive. always had a smile. >> while she loved her work her favorite job was being a mom to her four kids. the oldicist 14.

francisco general hospital. today we learned a dispatcher with the sheriff's department has been fired. she disappeared after entering the hospital a year ago. her body was found 17 days later in a stair well. her death led to several investigations focusing on the failure of communication between the hospital and sheriff's deputy whose provide security there. the sheriff's department says it made significant reforms over the past year. >> we have developed a six week training program specifically for all staff assigned to the hospital. >> in addition to the staffer who was fired two more have been suspended. five other are facing disciplinary action. high school students in cupertino are mourning the loss of a classmate after the boy was struck and killed by big rig on his way to school. it happened at 8:00 a.m. this mornings the sophomore --

as the sophomore was riding his bicycle. ktvu's azenith smith spoke with student and joins us live where the accident happened. >> reporter: within the half hour the boy's family arrived putting families where the boy was killed adding to the growing memorial of flowers. the younger brother was in tears. a family friend said the victim lives down the street and the reason they came here was to understand what happened this morning. >> this is very sad for our community. i don't recall ever having a child killed while going to school. >> reporter: she called the site of where the boy died heart breaking. his bike and backpack lying on the ground. >> school is supposed to be a safe place and lately it doesn't seem that way. >> reporter: police connected evidence and piecing together what happened. around 8:00 a.m.

this morning witnesses reported a big rig hit the boy. >> the truck struck the boy not knowing he struck the child. witnesses flagged down the big rig truck. >> reporter: the driver is in shock. also in disbelief students. >> i also bike and i feel sad for the parents because they are probably really shocked and sad. >> more scared that something random could just happen. >> reporter: he says this area is not safe. heavy traffic from businesses and schools sharing a narrow stretch of roads. he proposed a school bus and they are considering allowing bike riders to use a sidewalk. >> demanded the counsel to deal

with this issue right away because another student may get killed again and this is not necessary. >> the truck is linked to moon light stres company out of trace -- express company out of tracy. the person that company did not want to comment. azenith smith, ktvu channel 2 news. guests at a hotel who experienced food poisoning did not get sick from food at the hotel. a dozen people attending a convention was sick yesterday and were treated for dehydration. 16 teenagers were treated. health inspectors found no violations. the investigation will now continue to find the source of the problem. live with the preparations underway and what san francisco's police chief is saying about staffing and lessons learned. >> reporter: they just announced today. they will be back tomorrow -- announced it today. they will be back tomorrow to put up the big screen. the chief of police says the city learned from the past and is ready for game six and the possible clinch. >> reporter: from the gear to the viewing to the excitement, there is something very familiar about all of this. >> this is a been there, done that time. >> reporter: while we don't know what will happen, we know what has happened. >> after 2012 i don't think that is the way anybody would have had it. let's not do that. >> reporter: fans hope fans don't do that but they expect a lot of excitement. >> the city will erupt. >> lets party. >> reporter: with plans there are challenges. >> we were full staffed in 2010. down 150 officers in 2012.

today doctors removed a san jose state university student from life support after he was hit by a hit-and-run driver. san jose police say he was hit at 1:00 a.m. yesterday morning across from his front house. he was a senior and set to graduate this spring. members of his fraternity are raising money for his family in mempry of afriend -- memory of a friend who embraced life. >> he was a great guy. always smiling. always there for us. for his friends. for his family. >> san jose police say the driver was taken into custody after a second accident a few blocks away. he is facing felony dwi and hit

and run charges. big task of providing driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants. 1.4million people will apply for the new licenses. they will be available in january but the application process is beginning now. they have to prove they live here and take written tests and driving tests and they will have restrictions. >> the license will be -- will have in the front a sentence saying it is -- federal limits apply. it means it cannot be used to board a plane. >> the dmv published a video in spanish on youtube to answer questions about the application process. it is known as mr. know it all. they expect to hire a thousand extra employees to handle the work load. san jose police are asking for the public to help them

find a missing woman. investigators say the 39-year- old was last seen friday night at the mobile pcs store on jackson avenue at 7:00 p.m. her car was found in the parking lot. she is 5'5", run hundred 75 -- 175 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes. new at 6:00 p.m. a man's life savings lost on a bay area road but luckily for him it was found and returned. the chp who found money who says she didn't do anything special, just doing her job. >> reporter: this chp sergeant -- >> i thought what in the world, this can't be happening. >> reporter: she was driving last month when she saw something on the road. >> two bags that said bank of america. and i thought, i wonder if this
