right here. very similar. starting off in the 40s. ending up in the 60s and 70s. we'll be warmer here than there but a picture-perfect morning here under clear skies. temperatures on the cool side. kansas city will be good. first pitch, low 60s. that temp will trop in the 50s -- will drop in the 50s. but no rain. we to have clear skies. not much of a breeze. it looks pretty good. a few high clouds for you folks in mendocino county north. one system plowing into the north. our system for friday is now in the picture. that's a lot of cold air. has to work its way in. could be a good snow producer for the sierra. that won't be until friday or saturday. 46 redwood city, half moon bay. plenty up to the north and also from san ramon, alamo to la fayette. pittsburg, brentwood running warmer. but still low to mid-50s. temperatures will rebound. we'll see a lot of mid 70s for some. more on that in ten minutes.

booferning, everybody in the bay area. i love the sang. we're excited for the game between our giants and the kansas city royals. want to show you kauffman stadium, where the sun is sniping brightly on it. kind of a brisk morning. highs in the mid-60s. game time is will be much colder but both teams are set, ready to play this all important game six. some fans rolled into town. some giants' fans. some are arriving this morning on nights as we speak. but the players are here. giants held a light workout last night. royals took on the field before our guys. but now here in kansas city, they are excited about the royals calling them a team of destiny. they haven't made it to the big dance since 1985. while destiny is being talked about here, we could talk about dynasty in san francisco. here's bruce bochy talking about how special this year's team is. >> when i came up here, brian

it happened saturday night around 9:30. right. police got a call about shots fired and a woman screaming. when the police got there, they found a man lighting a rocket type fire firework. that man was cited. the remaining fireworks he had were confiscated. vallejo police are warning about an increase in purse snatchings and stolen jewelry. take a look at this photo. this is one suspect right before a theft on sunday at an office max store. police say the suspects approached their victim, then grab jewelries and bags before they run away. police are telling everyone to stay alert, be vigilant as we get closer to the holiday season. make sure you keep your valuables out of sight. 7:08. today, grief counselors will be on the campus of a cupertino high school to help students cope with the loss of their fellow student. he was killed after a big rig

hit while riding his pike to school. >> reporter: it's going to be a tough day for students from monta vista high school. we've already seen some of them walking here on mclelen road. they will have to pass this memorial on their way to school. there is a pile of candles and flowers for the teen who lost his hif here. a group of 70 parents and students, including the family of the 15-year-old monta vista high school sophomore that died last night, were at the vigil. questions remain as to how the.was hit. deputies say yesterday morning a big rig truck was stopped at

a red light. the boy was next to him when somehow he got entangled in the rear trailer. the accident has shaken up full low students. some parents plan to change their morning routine in light of this accident. >> for the next few days we'll drop off our son and pick up while we think about more longer hef plans for it -- more longer plans for it. >> reporter: the rule says trailers need special permits and can only operate between 9:30 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon. this accident happened at 8:00 a.m. investigators are looking to see if the driver was at fault. the school district tells us it's prepared to deal with grieving students and will have support staff on hand for them. they will be making a statement when the teen's name is officially released. coming up, you will hear from one of the students here at

he areappeared earlier this month. he was limping and had a cane. people in napa and solano counties directly affected by the august earthquake can now aplay for earthquake recovery money from the government. it's been two months since the 6.0 quake shook the area. until last night, only government agencies were eligible for quake repair grants. now the state office of emergency services says individuals and families can apply for help through the federal emergency management agency, or fema. this morning, a bay area man is relieved to have what he says is his life savings after he lost had on a bay area road. lucky for him an off-duty sergeant with the california highway patrol found the $120,000 in cash right in the middle of the road in concord. the 20-year chp veteran asked us not to show her face because she says the story is not about her. she was driving along concord

and her colleagues will stop the program known as quantitative easing. the fed has been buying billions of dollars a month in u.s. bonds to help boost the economy but it started to reduce that amount earlier this year. analysts say that's the first step towards boosting a de -- a key interest rates. rates are not expected to change until next year. home prices inch up in the 20 largest u.s. cities in august. prices were up/10 but they fell 4/10 in san francisco. in the annual growth, it slowed with home prices up 5.6% compared to the same time last year. that's the weakest annual growth since late 2012. 7:21. a mother of four, shot and killed in a terrifying road rage incident in oakland. we brought you the story yesterday. coming up in 30 minutes, why police are asking for help. also some uc berkeley

7:23. some uc berkeley students are calling on the university to cancel plans for bill maher to speak. a petition on change.org has gathered more than 2,000 signatures as of this morning. the protest was started by a student government leader and is backed by the middle eastern muslim and south asian coalition on campus. the online petition calls maher a blatant bigot and racist. the author says allowing him to speak would give legitimacy to comments he made earlier this month on his hbo show in which he described islam as the only religion that acts like the mafia. over the past year, there have been a number of similar

protests at universities across the nation which have led to cancellations. 7:24. turning now to election 2014 coverage. voters are gonna cast ballots next tuesday. the latest field poll shows jerry brown with a 16-point lead over neel kashkari. the governor has not campaigned a lot for him. instead, he is spending his campaign cash on ads for proposition 1 and 2. the 7.5 billion water bond and the state's rainy day fund. >> proposition 1 is a very well- thought-out, well-inty greated plan to such a -- it's a plan to encourage recycling, conservation, water supply above ground, underground. >> now, neel kashkari reportedly has a million dollars left in his campaign

chest. his spokesperson tells ktvu he plans to roll out a new 60- second ad before next week's election. now, prop 47 on next tuesday's ballot, it has generated strong opinions on both sides. it would reduce certain felonies to misdemeanors as a way to help reduce california's prison population. last night in san francisco, there was a prop 47 debate. on one side, jeff adachi, he supports it. and san mateo county district attorney steve wagstaffe argued against it. >> we're talking about crimes that should not be treated as felonies, potential of drugs. there are -- possession of drugs. there are 18 other states that treat possession of drugs as a misdemeanor and california needs to follow that lead. >> the problem with prop 47 somebody can have a long criminal record of robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, domestic violence, even human trafficking and if they commit one of these felonies, now

felonies, they will only be able to to be charged as a misdemeanor. >> prop 47 would make certain property crimes like drug possession, shoplifting and check forgery misdemeanors. today is the last date voters can request vote by mail ballots force the november 4th general election. officials must receive those ballots by the time polls close at 8:00 p.m. on election day. you can also turn your mail ballot in at your polling place or your local elections office. no more tipping. the reason some local restaurants are doing away with this long-standing custom. >> reporter: and the giants are on the verge of clinching another world series title later on tonight and thousands of fans will be packing civic center plaza to watch game 6 on the big screen. we'll tell you how early one die-hard giants' fan showed up

>> too much fun. >> reporter: the city says this viewing party is meant for families. you are not allowed to bring alcohol out here. with that in mind, san francisco police officers, lots of them, will be on happened to make sure that that rule is enforced and to make sure that fans don't go overboard if there is a big celebration, if the team can pull off a win and take the title tonight. they want to avoid problems like we saw back in 2012 after the giants knocked off the tigers in the world series. the police chief said he's urging fans to celebrate in a respectful way. as we bring you back here live, this will be one giant party later on tonight. things will get crazy. you can imagine if the giants are able to pull off a win tonight, and if you want a good view of the action, you need to get here earlier. we have people already out here on the plaza getting set for the big game tonight. we're live in san francisco,

alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> you took us right there. thank as lot. 7:36. well, it also looks like some kansas city fans have their own superstitions and it might not be working. according to our fox sister station in kansas city, rachel rail started posting these hunter pence signs in her front yard last week. now there are about 20 of them. some of them reading hunter pence didn't call his mom on mother's day or he drinks banana daiquiris with a straw. since then, these signs have been embraced by most fans. but now rail may be changing her swing. yesterday, a local paper tweeted this picture of her latest sign. it says "perhaps after the outcome of the last two games, i should be rethinking these

signs." now she says her new strategy may be to focus her attention on madison bumgarner or pablo sandoval. the san francisco police chief has his own superstition with the giants one win away from another championship. tentative plans are underway for another victory parade like the last one in 2012. look for a parade down market street on thursday if the giants win tonight. that world series parade would likely happen friday, yes, hall hoe wean, a lot of -- halloween, a lot of orange and black if the giants win tomorrow night. but the police chief is one person who will not utter the "p" word at least for now. >> i'm a baseball guy. you don't talk no hitters during the game and you don't start talking about celebrations until you squeeze the last out of the fourth win. so i don't want to say the word. we're ready. we're ready. >> chief suhr is a native san

prepaid debit card scams are increasing across the bay area. the scams are from people pretending to work for pg&e. customers get a phone call saying their power will be cut off due to unpaid bills unless they rush to play with a debit card. they are told to use a money packard. of course, the scammer takes the money. according to the federal trade commission, last year consumers reported losing $43 million in fraud involving prepaid cards. the u.s. postal service is reporting a wider monitoring of people's mail. according to an audit by the post master general, the usps approved nearly 50,000 requests last year from law enforcement to monitor mail for use in criminal and national security investigations. the audit found that in some cases, the postal service approved requests without requiring the proper thorl i

amazing person. deputy danny oliver was killed on friday while investigating a suspicious vehicle in sacramento. the gunman and his wife then led officers on a chase to placer county. that's where another deputy was killed. oliver's widow says her husband was dedicated to his job. >> he saw a lot of -- a lot of not okay things happening in the community, and i think he always wanted to get out of that environment and make those environments better. >> a memorial service will be held for deputy oliver next monday in roseville. the second deputy killed was placer county sheriff's detective michael davis, junior. his funeral is set for next tuesday, also in roseville. memorial funds have been established for both men. we are afinding out more about the gunman. authorities say he was arrested ten years ago in utah for a misdemeanor hit and run. he was also deported twice to

mexico. marin county's district toifn is calling for -- district attorney is calling for tougher laws when it comes to toy guns. it's currently illegal in california to remove the orange tip that gunmakers are required to place on toy guns. but the marin county d.a. wants to make it against the law to even own a toy gun that has been altered. he's also concerned about criminals who paint real guns to look like toys. last year, a sheriff's deputy shot and killed andy lopez for mistaking his toy gun for a real one. day two of a trial that will probably determine the fate of san francisco city college. now, yesterday supporters of ccsf rallied outside of the san francisco superior courthouse as the trial started. the lawsuit was filed by city attorney dennis herrera against the accrediting commission,

investigation. each count carries a maximum sentence of eight years. he will remain on house arrest until his sentencing scheduled for january 29th. new this morning, south korea's spy agency says they can explain why north korean leader kim jung un was out of sight for six weeks. the spy agency says a foreign doctor operated on his right ankle to remove a cyst. the north korean leader's long absence from public view, it triggered a lot of speculation about his health. he reappeared earlier this month. he was limping and had a cane. the federal reserve has started a two-day policy meeting in washington, d.c. that could wind down an investment plan. economists expect janet yellen and her colleagues to stop a program known as quantitative easing. the fed has been buying billions of dollars a month in u.s. bonds to help boost the economy. but it started cutting back on that earlier this year.

looking sharp with his lucky tie there. new this morning, a tense situation that shut down streets near two south bay schools has come to an end. around 7:15 this morning a call came into police that a man was threatening to harm himself and his family at a home on mccoy avenue and kito road in san jose. police say they were told the man had a shot gun. so they closed multiple sheets near forestville elementary school. about an hour later, police took the man into custody. a ban was recovered at the scene. no one was hurt and all of the streets are back open. police say the schools were not put on lockdown. some bay area restaurants are taking tips off the table. literally. tara moriarty joins us live from berkeley where one restaurant will start a new policy soon. what kind of reaction are you hearing about this idea? >> reporter: well, they kind of run the gamut. we've been receiving comments

on twitter. one person wroting is not mandatory. you tip because of service. so they don't see the reason for this. another person, i haven't noticed a change in service. here here along shaddock avenue. kamal restaurant is gonna implement this no tipping policy and add a 20% service surcharge. with minimum wage on the rise, the idea is to close the gap between servers and people who work in the kitchen. rather than relying on tips, the restaurants will pay based on revenue sharing. >> if they want to tip each person individually, they should to that rather than distributing it like that. i believe the waiters are the ones who wait on tables and deserve the actual tip. it should be up to the individual customer. >> i wouldn't like that at all. >> reporter: how come? >> because if the service was poor, then, you know, you don't feel like you have to pay that
