police investigate a triple stabbing tonight inside a house in san jose. officers tell us this type of living situation can lead to a lot of calls. good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. a bloody crime scene at a boarding home. three people were stabbed before police could respond. and azenith smith is live and tells us one of the victims is a caretaker. >> reporter: this is a home

that takes care of folks who are mentally disturbed or challenged. and investigators are piecing together why one of those clients went on a killing spree. a caretaker living inside a border care home on winey place way called nine # -- called 911 saying he had been stabbed. >> i ran out to the bloody scene. that's when i saw everybody wounded. one person was stabbed in the neck. another persons face was busted. and just a lot of blood. >> reporter: while police were on rout, two clients living at the house were also stabbed in the neck. police say they found the three victims in multiple locations around the home. they had been stabbed with a large kitchen knife. all three were rushed to the hospital and are expected to survive. >> care homes do represent a large volume of calls to the police. >> reporter: it's unclear who if anyone regulates these

homes. >> i don't believe it's regulated by the state, the city or anyone. it's a board and care home. i think they call them independent living home. >> reporter: police have responded to this home for parties, fights and now this crime. >> we're crying for help because we're trying to get some guidance on what to do with this house really. just it's gone too far. >> reporter: police say the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs, he will be booked at the santa clara county jail and faces three counts of assault with deadly weapon. reporting live in san jose, azenith smith, ktvu channel 2 news. police in richmond say a plain clothed officer shot a burglar today as the suspect drove off dragging the officers partner. it happened this afternoon in the parking lot of the east shopping mall alongside interstate 80. the two homicide detectives were going to lunch when they saw a man breaking into a car.

as they approached the 19-year- old man got into his own car. one officer tried to pull him out of driver's side door but the car took off dragging that officer about 30 feet. his partner said he thought he was in trouble and opened fire hitting the suspect at least once. >> as soon as they get him out of the car they cuffed him. we figured they were probably chasing him. >> reporter: police say the parking lot is well known for car burglaries. the suspect was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. a giant celebration is set for tomorrow in san francisco rain or shine. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to show up for a parade in honor of the world series champion san francisco giants. we have team coverage tonight. chief meteorologist bill martin has the time line for friday's rain. there are some changes to talk about but we begin at civic center plaza where the parade will wrap up. and jana katsuyama is there with last minute flurry of activity. >> reporter: it certainly is.

these crews have been working nonstop and let me move out of the way so you can see what they have done. they have transformed the civic center. there's a stage where the giants will be honored tomorrow. and let me tell you it is just gorgeous over here and it will be quite an amazing event when they finish the parade tomorrow. crews hustled in front of city hall. the grand parade and celebration with fans tomorrow through the heart of the city. >> i'm exstatic. i'm happy for the city, the fans and the team. >> people are just walking taller today because of what the giants did last night. >> people are going see a lot of public safety here tomorrow. additional transportation, we're encouraging people to take public transportation. walk if they can. >> reporter: emergency management team held a meeting at noon to finalize plans and they're asking people to be

patient tomorrow. >> when you start cramming 1 million plus people who want to come celebrate with the giants it's going to take a little while for people to move around. >> reporter: we got a preview of the parade. workers finishing the float that will carry the giants team on their final lap. >> since they've done this before. they asked for a little more pizza. we have to pick up the ante. same amount of time more sparkle. >> reporter: some fans in orange and fan are prepared to take tomorrow off from work. >> i will crash here tonight. and i'll meet up with buddies who are also planning on not going to work tomorrow. >> reporter: other people plan to leave home earlier, stay home. and some worry about the weather with rain in the forecast. but people's pride in the steam is what most likely will shine through. >> i hope it doesn't rain on our parade. i'm worried about that a little bit but it won't dampen the spirit of the fans.

>> that was jana katsuyama reporting outside an orange city hall. if you're one of the thousands of fans going to the parade tomorrow. you will want to get there early and stake out a spot. the parade starts at noon at stewart and market. goes up market and makes the turn to city hall. ktvu cameras will be positioned all along the parade rout and once everybody arrives there will be speeching and ceremony to honor the 2014 world series champions. two fans spent almost $30,000 to spend some time in the parade. 80 bids were placed and two people took home the prize. the winning bids brought in at $14,900 each. the money benefits the giants fund. for a complete list of the

changes go to our website ktvu.com. about that rain, chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking some wet weather. >> he sure is. bill you and i were talking about you said the system is slowing down. not good news for the parade. >> that's right. it looked as throe the rain line was going to move through the bay area kind of after the parade. or before the parade had started. now the system has slowed down about two hours and in the latest model runs it wants it to rain. certainly around 11:00 or 12:00. that's like bona fide rain like showers and enough rain that you're going to need umbrellas. by 1:00 or 2:00 it starts to break up a little bit. but you get the idea, it is bring an umbrella. i'm going to pull it into motion, you're going to see a few showers showing up at 7:00 a.m. let me walk it through here. we're going to step it up one more time. this is 11:00 a.m., parade starts at noon. so that's some significant rain. so that's the latest model run.

a fundraiser tonight for a college senior who was killed by a hit-and-run driver. early sunday morning an alleged drunk driver hit him right in front of the fraternity house then took off. doctors took him off of life support. he was hopeing to graduate this fall and start working to help his parents so they could retire. >> to him his family was everything. everybody who knew him knew that pretty well. we're just trying to do whatever we can to sort of respect him in that way. and sort of help him achieve that. >> reporter: 10% of all sales tonight went to the family. police say they have arrested the driver of the car that hit

apple's ceo tom cook is sout of the closet the revealing for the first time he's gay. and that makes him the most famous gay person in the world. >> reporter: for many who closely follow business and technology news, tim cook's announcement today was hardly news. some say it could have a significant impact on others in particular gays and lesbians in the work force. apple ceo tim cook decided to reveal to the world that he is gay in a letter posted today in the website of bloomburg business week. cook wrote while i have never denied my sexuality i have never public acknowledged it either. so let me now, i am proud to be tkpwaáeud and consider being

family moved from the bay area to oregon because that state allows her to choose to end her life. she also wrote a note along with the video thanking everyone for the outpouring of love and support. oakland police say tips from the public and video surveillance evidence led investigators to a 20-year-old man. that man is now under arrest for a shooting last weekend that killed a mother of four. as ktvu's noelle walker reports, word of an arrest is little solice for the family. >> reporter: late this afternoon, the detective arrived at the home to announce

tomorrow. noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. police in vacaville also announced the arrest of a homicide suspect today. the victim was a high school football player. 18-year-old demetrius ward was shot in the head on october 6 in an apartment complex. police say they interviewed several people and found out that 20-year-old alejandro jones had tried to rob jones of a small amount of marijuana while he was sitting in his truck. jones was on probation for another offense. he was arrested today when he met with his probation officer. showers moving into the area. here's the weather system i'm tracking. you can see the heavy showers now moving in around eureka and up the coast. it's a slow moving system. it slowed down enough that it looks like it's going to bring some rain to our parade as we head into your bay area morning hours. 11:00 in the morning for the giants parade. the current radar shows showers showing up north.

falling from a steep cliff along the lands end trail above the golden gate in san francisco. but another person who was with her was rescued. ktvu's debora villalon is at lands end now where fire crews had to come back just a few hours later for yet a second call, debora. >> reporter: the national park offers trailing and tours that officer both tourists and locals alike. but the path has proven fatal once again. >> reporter: just north of the cliff house, lands end offers a peaceful get away. trails to stroll, bike or get a work out. and breathtaking views to the ocean and golden gate bridge keep the cameras out. but some visitors want more what's beyond the fences and the signs. warning them of danger if they venture into steep areas. >> people have walked into those routs and fallen to their

death it's happened again today. a man in his mid-20s is seen after his rescue. he had a few scrapes but was very lucky. >> we had one person that was in distress seriously. 150, 200 feet down. there was also a woman who was down further at the water line. >> reporter: that woman, 300 feet down was unresponsive when rescue swimmers got to her. curious, adventurous, fire crews have heard all the reasons people stray out of bounds. >> they basically enter into these potentially hazardous domains to gain that better view. all your risking is your life and possible lives of other people. >> reporter: only a few hours later, another 911 call and a return trip for san francisco fire. >> he was holding his clothes, you know he was holding his clothes and he dropped them. >> reporter: this time a man in

driver raymond lucas was arrested he works for a classic cable car charters. the city says it had already begun plans for safety improvements at that crosswalk prior to this week's deadly accident. a crash, a fire, and a plea for help. >> hey a car has gone off the road and there appears to be a fire. and the police officer said, we'll come when we're finished here. >> two investigates, serious questions about chp officers lack of response to an accident that trapped and killed the driver. >> but up first, dozens of motorcycles doing stunts along the highway and the only officer there was outnumbered. how this video finally led to an arrest. ♪

after dozens of motorcyclists were seen performing stunts on a highway. ktvu was the first to show you this video of about 14 motorcyclists. a chp officer attempted to pull them over but failed. the video led them to the man behind the camera. calsa was arrested yesterday. >> we believe that calsa was the motorcyclists that was taunting the officer and refused to pull over. >> reporter: they expect more arrest warrants to follow. a person is in there they're burning to death man. tonight two investigates looks into why two officers

declined to respond to a call where the man ended up burning and dying. >> reporter: eric rasmussen has been following the story. >> he tried to get help from two chp officers who as you said happened to be a few hundred yards down the road. two investigate found those officers did not respond by the time someone else did it was too late. >> there's somebody in there? >> hey there's somebody, the person in there they're burning to death, man. >> reporter: this frantic call to 911 was not dr. ron white's first attempt to get help. for a crash turned on it side. white had noticed highway patrol officers on an unrelated traffic stop just a few hundred feet away. >> i said hey a car has gone

off the road and there appears to be a fire. the police officer said we'll come when we're finished here. >> reporter: you just whipped around to go back to him. >> it took me 20 seconds to go back to him. >> reporter: the officer's called in the crash to dispatch. >> a passer by advised a car fire. >> reporter: that was at 12:33 a.m. despite wyatt's pleas the officers did not check the fire for themselves. instead it was wyatt who went back to the scene of the crash and called 911 again. >> there's a police officer down the street, he's giving a ticket. >> reporter: wyatt saw movement in the car. >> i thought i have to get back to the car. >> reporter: it was 12:30, more than 12 minutes after wyatt

alerted officers. 60-year-old father and husband michael savinao was found dead in his car less than two miles from home. >> we don't take a situation like this lightly. >> reporter: despite the outcome, the california highway patrol says its officers acted responsibly. >> when there's an officer so close literally walking distance did they have an obligation to go check out what the emergency would be. >> i think their obligation is to look up and tally the situation. >> reporter: the officers on that traffic stop were dealing with a drunk driver. and at the time, did not know someone was trapped in the burning car down the road. >> we have a lot of car fires, sometimes they're occupied, sometimes there's not. that would have been a great piece of evidence for those officers to have. maybe they would have looked at it different. >> couldn't they know by just taking a peak 30 seconds down the road. >> unfortunately they were in the middle of an active investigation. we're all fighting like crazy to try and get out there. get the resources that we need

michael savino's family who has since hired an attorney and declined to comment. today the chp contacted us to report that alcohol was the primary factor in that crash. >> no sense of urgency there on the dispatcher. it just seemed like something differently should have been done. >> chp says they've reviewed it and they're standing behind their officers actions. >> eric, thank you. california governor jerry brown cast his vote in oakland today five days before the general election. the governor and his wife voted early at the alameda county. strong support for the state water bond in next tuesday's election was found. 22% say no, 24% are undecided:

after 48 days in the run in the woods of pennsylvania a man suspected of ambushing and killing a state trooper was captured late this afternoon. authorities say they received a tip that 31-year-old eric fren was hiding in a hanger. when police called for him to come out he did so without firing. fren is said to be a survivalists who hates police. today we're hearing from a doctor after treating ebola patients in west africa. jim fowler with how that doctor is doing and the growing debate about workers returning home from the hot zone. >> reporter: a doctor under

from a friend who was known for making lsd for the dead. the truck is being sold in alameda next week. recall -- rain in the forecast. mid-morning commute. not the early morning commute. that's how it looked on the models yesterday. looks like a 9:00, 10:00 morning commute is going to be pretty wet. a winter storm in the morning. we could see an inch of rain to an inch and a half of rain in the coastal hills. it's going to be wet. but it's good news we need it. we have critical mass, two commutes to concern ourselves with and a giant parade in town town san francisco. we're talking about this on the 5:00. but if you are trying to solve the drought you schedule a parade every other week and you get rain i guess. as that system gets closer obviously the atmosphere will moisten up and showers head our way. so mostly cloudy tonight.

as it moistens up the lower elevation you start to see the system pop up. it's got a lot of moisture to go through. but rain develops friday morning. maybe a little bit of a thunderstorms. but mostly just rain. and it's going to come down pretty heavy when it does. now that's the struggle we're having. here we are, i'm thinking about the parade now. here we are at 7:00 a.m. here's your commute. just barable. i think the roads will be wet, glazed, slick but it's not pouring at 7:00 a.m. you get to 8:00, 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00 things start to go off. and that's the time that the parade is going. if this is verified it will be wet in downtown san francisco. but it moves through quick. it rains during the parade and tapers off after that. then here comes the afternoon commute. that doesn't look too bad. now you're getting the kids dressed up.

ready for halloween. about 8:00. so really the parade is getting hammered. the afternoon commute looks okay. i think the kids are going to get away with trick or treating. it'll be damp but not raining very hard. i would buy that it will be through by them. right now looks like you're going to be wet if you're going to the parade so take an umbrella and jacket. saturday clears out rapidly. sunday looks good too. i just rolled you through the bay area weekend. sunday is your best day through the bay area weekend. that stays in effect through saturday. they could see a foot and a half of snow in some places. for halloween there's the forecast. as i mentioned that chance of showers, five day forecast. right there. take a look. rain develops on friday. just i mean we have like six things packed in. we have six things packed into friday and it's going to rain and all those things are weather dependent. >> critical mass, halloween party in the castro, this parade. could it change a little bit between now and tomorrow. >> it could. it's going to be for the most

hold on to leads late in the game has been a problem for the sharks in this early season. and that problem was evident again tonight in minnesota. san jose in front 2-1. and it doesn't get much better than this. joe thornton finds the net. 3-1 sharks just 1:37 into the period. the wild scored two goals to tie. they went to a shoot out. pomen skates in and gives the wild a 2-1 lead. patrick marleau missed in his attempt to tie. do get one point and are in a three way tie for second in the pacific division. we don't normally think of cleveland as one of the glamour stops in sports. but the cavs are trying to change that. lebron james is back home. he and the cavs opened the season today against the knicks. we'll show you how that went when this sports wrap continues. bulldog: what's this?

it was pretty much all saints tonight in the thursday night nfl match up between two nfl south teams. new orleans at carolina. the sainting leading right after halftime. jimmy graham scores with just three seconds left. goes into the locker room up. saints win on the road for the first time this year.
