teenage boy struck by a train appears to be a suicide. the boy was hit south of the station. the santa clara medical's officer identified him as 16 year old cameron lee. he was a student at gun high school. several young people was tied to the high school hooz has committed suicide including a gun high school graduate three weeks ago. >> the palo alto high school superintendent sent a letter saying we're deeply saddened and our sympathy goes to his families and friends as they grieve through the days and upcoming months. a deputy arrived at a home to serve an eviction notice and noticed the home was in flames. two men were seen driving into a

brave as the vice president and didn't make any predictions on the senate. most polls shows the momentum has went in the republicans favor. they need to flip six seats. democrats have a 53 to 45 majority. 55 including 2 independents who caucus with democratic and the power could shift depending on the outcome of fewer than 10 races. within the last 90 minutes polls have closed and the key races on the east coast, let's go to heather homes live in our news room with the new numbers. >> republicans and democrats have been blitzing these key states and people knocking on doors today. that magic number is 51. and the battle for control is expected to come down to about 10 races. stretching all across the country and you see them here on your screen. polls in four states have closed. we want to take a look at the latest numbers coming in.

in georgia, david is fighting a big battle and michelle nunn is hoping to represent that state since 2002. and david perdue with a substantial lead. we're head today a january 6 run off, but david perdue which is at 64%. in north carolina, kay hagan ise ing off against thom tillis. the democratic with 52% and tillis with 45. in that race, topped at $100 million and we want to go to michigan where mitch mcconnell has won reelection and looking to lead a gop controlled senate and candidate allyson lundergan and

secretary of state, she campaigned very hard here, but again, mitch keeps his seat. new hampshire, polls closed a few minutes ago and voting will wrap up in arkansas. in 15 minutes, i'm going to monitor the results there and update you on the numbers, but republicans smelling victory and a chance to control the congress. frank. >> let's talk more about that, now. joining us is our expert cory cook. he's a science professor from usc. what are the key things you're going to be looking for tonight and how do you see these playing out? >> i'm watching 12 races. if you put them in three races. the republican will pick up. there's three that retired. those are in alaska and

louisiana and it gets more interesting. you have two colorado and iowa that are -- colorado is going to be closing in the next hour, so a lot will focus on colorado. there's close races in north carolina and new hampshire. democrats have to hold those races at a shot at winning the senate. so i think, you know, from a case of each in the next hour or so. >> when it's said and done, do you think the democrats are going to gain control? >> democrats will have to thread a needle to get to 50/50. the next -- >> let's talk about if republicans do take control, we have barbara boxer and diane sign fine, what will this mean for them? we would lose some of their power and how will that impact california? >> they're currently chairs of

pressures in charge. no rain on election day. the rain to the in the of us is significant. that leaves us under this area of wide pressure where the air is sinking. and where it sinks you don't see a lot of cloud coverage. it vaporizes the clouds. we have clear skies and it's beautiful. along the coast, we have no fog because the winds are coming a little bit, not a ton, we have a little bit of an on shore flow -- that's winds coming out from the northeast. that's where we get temperatures tomorrow that could hit into the 80s. you've got east winds in fairfield and a northeast wind in concord. at the coast, you have a bit of a wester wind. it's day, night, it's warmer inland, so you have a little bit of a sea breeze going. 14 mile an hour smo, but at livermoore, the arrows are switching around. when it's

coming from an easterly component, temperatures will come up and that happens tomorrow with numbers easily in the upper 70s maybe some low 80s tomorrow and slightly warmer as we get into the 5-day forecast. current temperatures at 68 in concord and 67 in livermoore and 76 in san jose. this pattern could produce fire, but this isn't going to be the day or week for that. offshore winds will keep the temperatures relatively chilly, and we've noticed a fog forming. we've had fog formation out by san mary's college so valley fog in the inland valleys, it's patchy, but it's enough to mess your drive around. as you look at the forecast highs tomorrow, you're touching on almost 80 degrees. 79 in morgan hill. and there's your coastal tempere low 70s. tomorrow is a nice warm day. warmer as we head into thursday. the 5-day forecast, and there it

a judge has sentenced the founder of a fake east bay university to 15 years in prison. susan sue was the president in pleasanton in 2011. prosecutors said the school was a sham. it had no instructor and no course work.

they said the school was issuing visa's to foreign students in exchange for student tuition: the vatican condemned a nafb native who ended her life. 29 year old brittany became an outspoken advocate for assistant suicide after she was diagnosed with brain cancer. today the vatican's top bioethics official called her decision to end her life is represent prehensible, but said she should not be judged. a fire destroyed two homes. the fire started 2:00 near valley and bernie avenue. it's not far from interstate 680. there was no water on that site. a chief on the scene tells us that a spark from a plumber's torch likely caused the fire.

the winner tonight in arkansas. in new hampshire, scott brown is a familiar name. senator looking to unseen democratic jeanne shaheen and you can see that sheheen is in the lead. we want to go to georgia, he's an update on those races. david perdue in the lead with 61%. and in north carolina, democraty agan with a lead. 37% of the lead. a small lead, but a lead for democrats. in kentucky, minority leader mitch has won reelection tonight. if republicans do win this senate, mcconnell is the next majority leader.

>> usf cory cook joins us to talk about what heather discussed. let's focus on the senate. why so much focus on the senate and not so much on the house? >> there's 435 house seats and there's 36 in the senate. the senate is much more competitive, so we're watching the senate. most house races are now firmly in one party's control. it used to be the house would switch. we have this phenomenal of voters who would vote house for one party and vote for the other party. there's few seat in play. nine house democratic seats have made a switch, maybe a hand full on the republican side. it's not that competitive >> when it comes to the switch, the fact that most is happening in the south, what does that tell you? >> there's been a 40 year realignment. the south has

becoming republicans and arkansas was the hold out. they both loss the governor's race of arkansas tonight. there's north caroline and latino voter in north carolina. they're optimistic of holding that state. louisiana is likely to go on the republican side. democrats are not competitive in the southern state >> if the republicans do gain control, you said you expect them to do tonight, what does this mean for tomorrow and on as far as getting anything done in washington? >> voters -- the president is a 40% approval, and higher. the congress is below that and what looks like the mostly outcome is the republicans coming into power and more grid lock. we have this interesting divide in terms of voter registration. we've come to turn out gap where it's generational, young people are far less likely to vote in

warmer. we talked about that. the warming trend continues as d into the week. the 5-day forecast will show the rain is to the north, and the snow is to the north. the high pressure setting up. it often does this time of year. this isn't unusual, but the pattern is dry. it's warmer, and it's producing cool overnight lows, so we're seeing overnight lows in the mid to upper 30s. there's no fog along the coast. wind arrows, we have a wind flow -- we have a flow developing in the east bay hills. that offshore flow will win out. so the winds will start coming off the land to the water, which warms us up. it scours away the coastal fog and it sets us up with cool nights. these numbers are 48 and fair, but it's easily, you get out in the valley there a little bit, you're going to find some mid to upper 30s. it's going to be chilly tomorrow morning. we had valley fog, not coastal fog, but

that radiation fog that we get with a little wet ground, a little rain a couple of days ago and these cool nights and the dew points are running high. valley fog is something we start thinking about as we go into this week's certainly and the rest of the week. 78 in napa and 77 in clear lake. these temperatures have come up a couple of degrees and they'll rise. we see a couple of low 80s as we head into wednesday. and gill -- we might see low 80s as we head into thursday and friday. it's clearly in view. that's the down side. it would be nice to get some rain especially this time of year, it's early. this is not the time of percent of average. they don't mean anything. this time of year means nothing but we're one big storm, so we'll keep an eye for you. the 5-day forecast, dry.
