camera. news channel 2. voters are hitting the polls. right now we're learning how voters across the country are deciding who will lead in washington. every 30 minutes, new polls close. within the last five minutes, polls closed in three more states with there's key race and heather holmes is in the news room. >> colorado wrapped up, and kansas and louisiana. at 6:00, we're waiting numbers there, already the republicans have flipped two states. both west virginia and arkansas, and they only need four more to gain control of the u.s. senate. one of the other key races we're watching is in new hampshire. this race has tightened in the last half hour as we take a look, we're 23% of the precinct, jeafa -- jeanen stale lead --

>> and now we head to north carolina, democratic kay hagan maintaining her league, although this has tightened up a little bit. 47% of the precinct. >> all right. heather, thanks very much. joining is cory cook. he's an analyst from the university of san francisco. the republicans are four seats closer to gaining control of the senate. there's still a long way to go. >> for the most part, it's what we've expected. we're hear about colorado and iowa. a lot of people paying attention to kansas. so at this point, the most you can expect, the republicans will win six seats. the question is can the

democrats win the republicans seats and break even. it's going well for republicans. the virginia senate race which few people thought was going to be close, it's nationally too close to call. folks expect virginia will stay democratic. those are the indicators on election night that's concerning for democratic encumbrance. >> after an election, they say it's going to be a new buy parson spirit. what do you see happening kruing that republicans gain control. you have a democratic senate. is there going to be any bi parsonship? >> they ran against the president saying they wouldn't compromise the president. tare going to appeal the affordable obamacare. they'll put him on the defensive on immigration and they're going to roll back his agenda. there's going to be a lot of pressure on the

republican leadership as soon as -- not to compromise, not to reach bargains on entitlements. we're looking at two more years in washington. >> the focus is on the us senate. not a lot of attention being paid in the governor's race. >> it's interesting. democrats are going to pick up three -- california we know of, and new york and new hampshire has been called. a chance to pick up in pennsylvania and florida. key states that's going to look toward the presidential election. they have an influence in 2016. for whatever reason, an lot of attention. colorado is interesting on the republican side. and illinois got interesting, although it appears most expected that democratic will hold on.

the math is governor's race and it's different. these are district by district elections. kansas is an amazing state where republicans came into power. they did what they said they would do. the state bonded out in terms of their fiscal situation. no one thought it would be competitive for the democrats >> one of them is in the bay area. what do you see happening there? it's all a matter of the republican turn out. >> it's. it's an interesting race. it's going to be a democratic seat. not getting a lot of attention because a democratic will win. this is a significant race, a long time incumbent and labor democrat running being challenged -- we know from previous races using the top two primaries, we call organ voters.

democrats have a ballot to reaps and voters don't like choosing between two candidates. more than half of those will leave those races blank, even when they go to the polls, they'll leave those blank. the question is will they get enough -- we know that mike honda has more support. what will these other voters on these elections do. >> a long way to go. we'll talk to you. cory cook from usf. thank you for being with us. thank you, corey. the election's department website is up and running after a glitch crashed the system just after the polls open. the shut down caused headaches at the registrar office. there was a flood of phone calls of voters and many wanted to know the location of their voting poll. it caused problems in shasta and a dozen areas. the website was

back up by 12:30. one voter told us she thought that the glitch was ridiculous. >> if you move for something, it would be disconcerning and i hope that doesn't affect the vote. >> the glitch was traced back to a soft wear company based in tampa, florida. no word on what caused it. our coverage continues on ktvu.com. we'll post local election results live as they come it. look for the banner at the top of our home page when the polls close in california at 8:00. an arson investigation is under way tonight into a fire that destroyed a home in geyserville. sheriff's officials say a deputy arrived on hillsboro avenue to serve an eviction notice and noticed the house was engulfed in flames. investigators are looking into the men have any connection with the fire that were seen driving away. the death of a teenager boy

hit on the train tracks earlier this morning appears to be a suicide. he was hit by a train heading south to san jose. the santa clara medical examiner's office identified him as 16 year old cameron lee. he was a student at palo high school and many students that goes to that school have been -- including a high school graduate three weeks ago. a guilty verdict was handed down for the murder of raveesh. he was killed two years ago and tied up and died. drummer was convicted and will likely to be given a life sentence. two defendants await trial while a

fourth female victim -- she was hired by a prostitute and helped plan the attack. a deadly crash in san jose caused a traffic back up right in the middle of the morning commute. the crash happened just before 8:00 this morning in the busy area of hills dale area. the witnesses say the car was traveling and was entering onto hills dale when it hit the side railing and overturned. witnesses say they saw the male driver crawl out of the car badly injured. >> another witness showed me where the person was, and we came over there and started praying for him, and praying for him to just keep breathing, and we're here, and we were there and kept our hands on him and talked to him. >> paramedics rushed the scene, but the pan did not survive. no one else was hurt. they don't know if alcohol or drugs played

alcohol. supervisors got a real ear full over the board's 34% pay raise. >> got to go. >> three dozen union workers including city, county, and school employees disrupted the supervisors meeting in martinez this morning. the group left turn the meeting peacefully. the union says the board has doubled their salaries over the past ten years while telling the workers that they didn't have money for cost of living increases. >> only recently we were able to secure after a difficult bargaining a 4% increase that didn't catch up us with the cost of the living. >> the supervisors salaries with set at 70% of what superior coach judges over. $129,000, and the raise takes affect in january.

news in san jose. chopper 2 just arrived over a deadly scene. we're told the shooting occurred at an apartment on diamante and you can see a patrol car on the left-hand side. the shooting reportedly happened an hour ago, less than an hour ago. a san jose spokesperson tells us smith that one person was killed, and right now police are looking for two suspects who fled in a car. we're working to get more information. as soon as we do, we'll bring it to you. in the meantime, the world series mvp madison vr bum bumgarner goes on television. mark is up next with sports.
